And as kron 4 Charles Clifford reports this triggered a hazmat response. Here in san jose on wednesday, a hazmat situation at the middle school right behind me here resulted in 8 students reporting feeling sick. The Fire Department says it may have been a science experiment gone wrong. The san jose Fire Department says that around 9 wednesday morning they started receiving calls about students here at Sunrise Middle School smelling an odor and feeling sick. Full first alarm response was dispatched to the school. When we got here, we found that there was 8 students that had various complaints of dizziness, nausea, general malaise, shortness of breath and the students had been pulled from the area where they originally smell the smell and they are in a safe area for us to assess. 2 students were transported to the hospital for evaluation, mostly out of an abundance of caution. The remaining 6 students are doing well know. Faculty reported feeling ill. The Fire Departments Hazardous Materials team searched the school and they now believe that an experiment in a science room may have created elevated levels of carbon dioxide. They say that the source of the co 2 was removed and that the levels have returned to normal. No other contaminants were found in the air. The Fire Department says they did a wide search to find the cause. Theres very common things that we try to rule out such as cleaning products. This school is clean on regular intervals with us and products like ammonia, etc. And they also scheduled to potentially an experiment with vinegar and baking soda for one of those volcano were trying to isolate and rule out some of the most obvious things. First by late morning classes have resumed here at Sunrise Middle School, although parents who want to take their kids home for the day, were allowed to do so in the south bay, Charles Clifford kron, 4 news. A live look outside on this warm wednesday across the golden gate bridge. Very clear. And sunny out there and pilots here with details on whats going on in the weather department. Yeah, hey there. Weve got a really nice day. A little bit of wind out there and some warm temperatures as just the mention, just the beginning of a warmup that goes through the end of the weekend right into the weekend. Right now, though, you can see that we are pretty impressive. And oakland and san jose showing 80 degrees. 79 in concord, 81 in santa rosa. Some 60s out at the coast. There are a little bit warmer earlier today when happened actually got up to about 71 degrees. 72 degrees. You can see the difference in temperatures here. 24 hours. So we are definitely warmer across the board. And like i said, this is just the beginning, as expecting to see more influence of this High Pressure as we get into thursday and friday, even into the weekend. Now notice High Pressure here, low pressure there. You may recognize that set up. That does produce a little offshore wind. That is the reason that were seeing some of this warmth is because of that. And you start to see that northerly flow. Sometimes a northeasterly flow of wind. And that is whats happening this afternoon. So you can see right now in napa about 18 Miles Per Hour. But 25 in fairfield, some of that wind kind of starting to roll now in spots like San Francisco and oakland to up to about 17 Miles Per Hour. So wind advisory is in place until 08 00am tomorrow for a few spots. One of them interior mountains of the north base. You can see spots to the east of santa rosa there east of the 101 and then calistoga saint helene, a sonoma and then didnt getting down to a parts the estuary into solano and yolo counties there, too. So again, gusts possible up to about 45 Miles Per Hour through 08 00am tomorrow. Ill be back a little bit. Well talk more about those temperatures. Back to you. All right. Coming up, well tell you about the big water main break richmond. Its won the streets there and has left nearly 2 dozen homes without power and also staying in richmond. They voted for a big power change their after years of complaints over pg and e will see what happens next. And the president set to come to San Francisco tomorrow. What we know so far about history. A large water main break caused a big mess in richmond today. The water rushed into several streets. Kron fours will tran reports. What youre looking at is the epicenter of the water main break. Look at how the road just went up. I just talked to east bay mud. They said all that water was so strong that when it pushed up, it also pushed their roadway. So they are cleaning up the mess. I just found out that 21 homes along carlson and 45th to 47th. They will not have water at least the next 10 to 12 hours. So that should put them well in 2 the evening hours. So the afternoon they cannot use water, of course, because its not available to you. Now. I can tell you this all started at around 5 oclock this morning when for some unknown reason the pipe just burst and they have an excavator on scene right now. They want to obviously break the roadway. Down there and then replace the pipe and then get the water back going. But when it was at its full steam, it sent thousands of gallons of water onto the roadway, which is why you see all of the mud right here on carlson. Theyre actually cleaning up the mud just so they can get closer to the roadway and then do their work. This is a long stretch. So im pretty much standing on 45th right now will swing the camera over here. One direction of carlson is going. This is being handled by east bay mud for several blocks because down at the other intersection, you can see them. They took it over as well. So one, they have to repair it and to obviously to find out the cause of all of this. But we do know that approximately 21 households dont have water. And if you do the math, who knows how many people are in each household, but its safe to say maybe around 82 or maybe even more than 100 people woke up this morning trying to turn on the water. But instead of the water inside their home, it was outside their home in front of the street. You can see the excavator about to break ground. The city of richmond passed a resolution for the states to jump start a nonprofit Electric Company instead of using pg and the vote is symbolic. But the vice mayor says for years the city has dealt with Power Outages and other problems, including the failure of pg and e to supply energy to city parks. In a statement pg and e says it does not support the idea of a statewide public utility because it would not benefit customers. Taxpayers, local communities or californias economy and staying in richmond, there is a nonprofit organization, pogo park. It has won a state grant to build a new wreck center. That will double as an emergency shelter. The 10 Million Dollar Grant Program will construct contra costa countys first recs center at harbor 8 park construction is already underway for hard work call. It is set to be done by the end of this year. This 10 Million Dollar project will include 6 Million Dollars for physical infrastructure. 3 Million Dollars for program. The city of oakland is going to have to pay more than 2. 5 Million Dollars to an employee after a jury decided that they failed to protect her from harassment. At a Senior Center in this lawsuit, the victim, Patricia Toscano says that she reported a supervisor for reported is supervisor for sexually harassing her to the citys Human Services department in 2016. But attorneys representing her say nothing was ever done about that situation. And Alameda County jury sided with the scott allan. Now the city will have to pay her 2. 6 Million Dollars. Happening tomorrow. President biden will be visiting the bay area for 2 days. Hes expected to fly to San Francisco tomorrow before attending to campaign receptions on friday. The president last in San Francisco in february when he went to 2 events in support of his reelection campaign. A live look outside at the city of San Francisco, very sunny and warm out there today. And the wind is going to start within meteorologist logan here now with details really already is in some spots now. Yeah, a little offshore wind thats getting going. So, yeah, its kind of flying trashcan. Whether everybody, if you are in the spots in brown and you can see this out, everyone. But portions of the north bay and parts of the east bay as well. Looking out for this wind advisory that goes until about 08 00am tomorrow morning. We could see gusts up to about 45 Miles Per Hour. So definitely something look out for. If you head up to the peaks, you can see where some of this wind is coming from right . And then it translates down into the surface and you start to see these numbers of sustained wind here that are now in the teens with the exception of fairfield, which is at 25 Miles Per Hour. But you see very distinct direction there from the north. That is because weve got different circulation around different pressure system. So High Pressure is clockwise circulation. Low pressure is counter clockwise circulation. Got to put those 2 together when they start to squeeze together and you get offshore wind being driven between them and thats exactly what happens. You get this pressure gradient. If you ever wondered whats going on with the wind, thats where its coming from. So i mentioned this is kind of flying trashcan weather for those of you wind advisory. You know, we could see gusts upwards of 40 to 45 Miles Per Hour between now and tomorrow morning. So just make sure youre ready. And you secured things. This is the future wind gusts here. As you can see as we get into the evening again, that northerly flow keeps rolling, not just tonight, but as i mentioned as we get into tomorrow morning, thats about 06 00am. And you can see spots like Petaluma Sonoma looking out, you know for 35. Plus Miles Per Hour. Wind gusts. So this is tomorrow about 11 15am, a time we get into the afternoon and evening. Then its all wrapped up. But the wind is going to be with us. And right now you can see in San Francisco not too bad trees, not too wild. You can see a little bit of a breeze there. Happening with the flag. So once we get into tomortow afternoon, the wind should get a little bit better. Were also seeing that warm up that has everything to do with that offshore wind as well. And that High Pressure being in control. It rolls right through the next 7 days. You see a little bit of a cool down on sunday, but thats about it. Lots of sunshine, lots of warmth. Back to you. All right. Still ahead this afternoon, the debate over dishwashers and stoves is heating up in congress will hear from lawmakers about the appliance bill. But supporters say the standards save americans money and reduce pollution. The real issues facing the american people. Were choosing yet again to waste our time debating appliances. Now that the bill has passed the house, the bill heads to the democratic controlled senate where its likely to pass. Up next here at 3 Affordable Housing for Half Moon Bay farm workers is now moving forward. But Community Members are saying about this proposal. Plus, a debate over naming oaklands airport is coming to ahead. Well tell you about the big vote thats about to take place and more trouble in the skies. The latest incident that left some delta passenin San Francisco to Affordable Housing communities are being built near visitation valley. Theyre starting to take shape. Construction started last spring and it is all set to be done by early next year. But today, kron fours Tiffany Justice reports that the mayor and Community Leaders took a little time to celebrate the projects progress. This 50 acre site in sunny deol called the sunny deol of alaska. Master plan is moving forward. Local and Community Leaders speaking wednesday about the progress so far, 222 affordable units have been completed with 75 of them designated as Public Housing replacement units for sunny deol residents state senator scott wiener says is much needed for the south eastern neighborhoods of the city south asian neighbors have been just so neglected for so many years. You know what it needs and i think it is ending. Were seeing much more focus on the needs. This community is an essential part of San Francisco. The fabric of our city. Several groups are working on this revitalization effort, including mercy housing in the San Francisco housing authority, transforming existing Public Housing into a mixed income neighborhood. There will be 2 apartment money and nia amani will be located on the southwestern corner of sonido avenue and street. It will have 80 new apartments for lowincome families, earning 30 to 40 of the area. Median income. The ground floor will be used for commercial use for groceries in a Residence Hall and located across the street will be nia. It will offer 90 apartments for families earning 30 to 60 of the am. I nia is set to be completed in 2025. We have finally get into a better place. Only the 222 units that have already been completed. But the 170 units topping off today. To make sure there is a real one for one replacement to support the existing community is sunny day out. The transformation of the neighborhood will also include a hub, a new Community Center for residents, eu slated to open in august of this year. The new space will house an Early Child Education Center in a boys and girls club house. Its a community. Where young people would actually have a place to go. Often times people get frustrated with the youth and they talk about the fact that typically people dont think young people should be. We could realize the space, well, young people would actually have opportunity to thrive, participate in activities, participating programs right in their very own community reporting. Tiffany justice kron, 4 news. A new report shows the bay area is billions of dollars short in paying for Affordable Housing projects that are already under way. This is according to research from Enterprise Community partners and the bay area housing authority. The finding show more than 400 Affordable Housing developments are in the works in all 9 bay area counties that should provide nearly 41,000 affordable homes. But that accounts for only 23 of the states Affordable Housing criteria and the bay area would still need to come up with 180,000 more homes by 2031, according to the report, almost 10 billion dollars of public money is needed to move forward on the homes that are already underway and there will be a 20 billiondollar regional bond on the ballot this fall. Housing Officials Say it would help unlock some projects that are necessary to meet the Affordable Housing goals. To the peninsula. Now where there is a new Affordable Housing complex thats coming for farmworkers in Half Moon Bay, the San Mateo County board of supervisors has now approved millions of dollars for these new homes. Kron fours. Michael thomas has the story. Approval would allow up to 50 new manufactured homes to be built in this area that you see to my left and specifically would help out those farm workers who are affected by last years mass shooting. Take a look. These are renderings of the new community put out by the San Mateo County board of supervisors which approved close to 6 Million Dollars this week to build Affordable Housing for coastal farm workers. In total, the project will provide. 47 new manufactured homes built on 5 acres of cityowned land. The areas about a half mile away from downtown Half Moon Bay and sits at the end of a culdesac where Million Dollar town homes are located. Carl bolton who lives in one says he likes the idea as long as its done correctly. I have watched a project goal. Entire time and i think we need Affordable Housing for folks we need. We need we need this. While the approval came just this week, the idea stems from a county Commission Report that was done almost a decade ago back in 2016, which found the need to improve the quality availability and affordability of housing for farmworkers in the area and last years mass shooting confirmed that report when officials discovered just how bad Living Conditions Mister Bolton says hes okay with the idea but not everyone is fully on board. I mean, theres some controversy among our Homes Association in terms of of the valuing our properties of things. But i think weldon development here this clean and a affective, its not going to affect the set currently, the project is still in the permit process, but Officials Say if all goes well, 28 of the 47 units will focus on ownership for farm workers using the california joe certain junior farmworker housing Grant Program. However, no eta has been given quite yet. Multiple neighbors in the area tell me theyre ok with this project and the idea of it as long as its done correctly. However, no eta when construction would begin has been give it. Thats the very latest reporting in Half Moon Bay, Michael Thomas kron. 4 google is going to be leaving one marketplace in San Francisco when its lease expires. We remain committed to our longterm presence in San Francisco. Happening tomorrow, open officials make a final decision on whether to change the name of Oakland International airport. This proposal is calling Oakland Airport San Francisco Bay International airport. This is created a lot of controversy and has already prompted the city of San Francisco to file a lawsuit last month. San francisco officials have said travelers bound for sfo, a flight oakland by mistake. If the airports name starts with San Francisco now oakland Officials Say the name change will help generate more traffic for the airport by making travelers aware of its bay area location. The port of oakland is set to vote on a final approval for this new name tomorrow. Of course, well let you know what happens. Lets talk about our forecast with a live look outside. Nice wide view from our mount tam cam. It looks really nice out there today, kylie, even up the coast right now. It just looks like summer. We should a high note. It really does. I just saw some people riding their bikes. Weve got people walking enjoying the view, enjoying the beautiful weather. They were a little bit warmer earlier today. Not quite as warm right now. Now sitting in the 60s in Half Moon Bay, but still really nice day out there. 63 degrees in Half Moon Bay, but 80 in san jose and check out oakland just popped up to 80 degrees. 79 in berkeley getting some heat there in the east bay, their pittsburgh concord, about 79. And then look at all the 80s. Weve got up here in the north bay from cloverdale right through Santa Rosa Petaluma nevado. Yeah. Look at that. Heading over napa and sonoma too. It is a Beautiful Day out there. No doubt about it. Were in the low 70s here in downtown San Francisco. The wind is kind of the sticking point, though, because we definitely have a little bit of a blustery situation going on in some spots. You can see there in fairfield about 25 Miles Per Hour. Having said that, even san jose has 70 mile per hour sustained wind as a San Francisco. Notice the direction is generally northerly. So its a bit of an offshore flow because weve got that High Pressure that we talked about that sitting out the pacific and low pressure inland, kind of creating that wind greedy. And as we go through the afternoon, but you can see its also that High Pressure keeping all of california, very blue skies today and a really nice here in the bay area. So today, obviously a nice day tomorrow, a warmer day. Well have the wind as we start earlier part of the day and then we should get a little bit better in the afternoon. But the heat peaks as we get into friday, looking out for inland, you know, upper 80s, even potentially 90 degrees, some low 80s. As you look around the bay and 60s out at the coast saturday, another warm day, too. And if we even take ourselves into next week and we look at the country as a whole, you can see a lot of warmth, all those areas in orange and red expecting it to be above average. If we zoom in on the bay area here, were talking may 14 through 18. You can see well above normal temperatures. So a bit of an interesting run as we head across the next few days. Ill be back in a bit. Well talk about your excess 7 day forecast. All right. Thank you so much. I was like is the camera froze. But no, thats what it looks like outside pilots here with details. Yeah, we do have some breezy conditions. Just maybe not right there right now. But yeah, i just want word of caution. You guys, youre talking about a fire that was started obviously by illegal fireworks. But im still just to let you know, when we get windy like this, specially that offshore wind got to be really careful that you dont do anything accidentally that might start a fire. Also want to just point out Something Interesting here because offshore wind definitely gets things going. Its 81 degrees in sacramento where theyre also under a wind advisory. Its only 73 in las vegas. I found that a little bit fascinating. 70 degrees in la right now. Obviously in San Francisco are looking pretty good. 72 in downtown San Francisco, 80 in san jose and napa. 81 in nevada, santa rosa and oakland right now. Also, 81 in hayward getting some of that offshore wind that is helping to drive those temperatures up. So we are blue skies. We are a little breezy. And then a little cooler by sunday. So lets talk temperatures news app as an example where the average high this time of year 75 degrees. Were exceeding that today. Look at what happens on thursday friday, even saturday getting up into those mid even nearly upper 80s. And then we get a little bit of a cooling trend as we get into sunday, but still well above average and notice the overnight lows which should be in about 48 degrees. Out for more like 59 60 degrees tonight. That is everything to do with the High Pressure that is in control here. And that is going to keep us warm not just today and tomorrow, but over next week. Now we get this win grady of the kind of lines up here to. Thats why were starting to see that with that low and High Pressure kind of squeezing together. But, you know, my point is to say here, you dont see this High Pressure taking off and that means we get a lot of sunshine. But we also get a lot of above average temperatures and there it is right there as we take a live look at stormtracker 4. So the wind is also going to be an issue.
