Im just and were going to start with that massive fire that burned a commercial building in concord nearby. Roads are closed is impacting the commute for drivers right now. Kron 4 s Charles Clifford is live in concord with details on this fire and the aftermath. Thanks for joining us. Well, good afternoon. Yeah, this was a very dramatic scene late last night. Look across the street there. You can see crews are in the process of cleaning up that building right over there. 3 stories pretty much a total loss of garage on the ground floor. Some retailers are also some Apartment Units on the top. There is completely destroyedm good news today. Nobody injured, but this is going to impact traffic in the area throughout the day. Late monday evening, fire broke out in this vacant threestory building at the intersection of clayton road and park street in concord, which is just across the street from concord bart station. According to Contra Costa County fire. There were no active fire alarms or smoke detectors inside the building which allowed the flames to grow unchecked until a passerby noticed smoke and called 911. When theres system alarm in place. We only get the call a good citizen lets us know. When fire crews arrived on scene, they searched the building, recognize no one was inside with defensive because i was going to be a safer way to fight the fire. The fire eventually grew to a second alarm. The roof also collapsed, but crews were able to contain the blaze by about one tuesday morning. They were also able to keep the fire from spreading to other buildings in the nearby bart station was not impacted. Crews are now keeping an eye on the building to make sure the fire doesnt kick back up again. Theyre still going to be a few hot were monitoring, but the fire is out at this stage or just do a mop up making sure those hot spots dont reignite the exact cause of this fire is still under investigation. Officials say that a quote, fully engulfed vehicle fire was blocking several lanes on highway 80 westbound west of Treasure Island and 2 lanes have reopened. 2 others are remaining closed right now. Drivers are being advised to expect some delays. This is a live look here at the toll plaza. I should try to figure out a different way to get into the city. If youre trying to use the bay bridge, you can see the backup here at the toll plaza because the fire was heading into San Francisco. Currently, theres no estimate into would not all those lanes are going to reopen, but we could see whats going on here after that fire will keep you posted right here at noon. And staying in the east bay. Police are investigating 2 separate shootings that injured 2 people. The first shooting happened sunday night just before 11 100th avenue near breed avenue. The second shooting happened just after 12, 30 monday morning on 73rd avenue near holly street. Investigators say the victim in both of these shootings did go to nearby hospitals. But anyone with information about either should contact police. The Fair Political Practices Commission has opened an investigation into the efforts to recall District Attorney pamela price. Police say that the family was apparently returning from the Birthday Party when for some reason, the electric car swerved and collided with a tree catching fire. Right down the street from and their family, you know, like all rest of this and they have them. Turning now to some National News as a House Committee has passed a bill that would codify the definition of antisemitism. Its a bipartisan measure, even as some in congress say it threatens free speech. Our washington correspondent Trevor Shirley is in dc with more. This bill coming as propalestinian protests continue to spring up on College Campuses all across the country, which some jewish students say threatens their safety. Now more than ever, it is critical that the federal governments definition of antisemitism is clear and uniform in a 74 vote monday, the House Rules Committee passing a bill codifying the definition of antisemitism. As defined by the International Holocaust remembrance alliance, potentially adding that definition to title 6 of the 1964 civil rights act. Congress must clearly define antisemitism. So universities are empowered to take appropriate and decisive steps to keep students safe. But with campus protests spreading some lawmakers arguing this bill may have unintended side effects. This bill threatens to chill constitutionally protected speech speech that is critical of israel alone does not constitute Unlawful Discrimination to get federal funds, colleges and universities must comply with title 6 lawmakers supportive of the bill say it gives schools clear language defining the line between free speech and language not protected by the constitution. You see some showers up there in parts of oregon and washington state. But were looking good. And the marine layer has just been a whole lot of nothing is 12 morning, which is been really nice to see that sunshine so early temperatures right now, san jose about 67. So we are warming up in a spot like dublin, flirting with that 70 degree mark now sitting at 69 62 in berkeley that 60 in downtown San Francisco and can see santa rosa about 67 fairfields made it up to that 70 degree mark already. When an altercation erupted between this man. 35 yearold Wesley Pollard and the plainclothes San Jose Police officer providing security for the mayor. Pollard was ultimately arrested and charged with felony resisting an officer by means of violence and misdemeanor battery and disturbing the peace. The incident went on for nearly 4 minutes before a Community Member helped subdue pollard. Now in this letter, the San Jose Police Officers Association, hes calling on san joses acting police chief and city manager to double the mayors security detail. Having only one officers part of a security detail for high Ranking Member of the city. I was not sufficient was unsafe. Steve sisolak is president of the San Jose Police Officers Association. Turning now to some National News in the u. S. Marshals task force is conducting an investigation in north carolina. After 4 officers were shot and killed while serving a felony warrant. 4 other Law Enforcement officers were hurt in this 3 hour long standoff at a Charlotte Home on monday. They say officers fired back at the suspect, killing him in his front yard. U. S. Marshals say a second person also fired at officers from inside the home. And thats when Armored Vehicle smashed into the home, tearing it apart. Battle over 100 gunshots. It sounded like 3 . Police say a woman and her and and a 17 yearold boy were found in that home.
