Protests started about 8. 30, this morning. It wrapped up just before noon. We have Live Team Coverage of the latest developments that have been happening there. But first well start with kron 4 s Charles Clifford with an update a bit of headaches here at sfo for several hours this morning. Around 8. 30, wednesday morning, hundreds of protesters shut down the International Terminal of sfo. That block the gna security gates and rally outside along the International Drop off her. They also left cars blocking the approach ramp to the International Terminal. The protesters say they came to express their frustration with the ongoing conflict in gaza between israel and hamas. We also called on the Biden Administration to push for a permanent ceasefire. Yeah, its absolutely heartbreaking and devastating. Part of it come out because we need. Something to channel our grief into. We need to feel like we can make a material impact. And i know that we cant. But i also know that it takes actions like that believed that inconvenience people during the protest, the airport directed travelers from the International Terminal into the domestic terminals where they could go through security checkpoints in order to reach their flights. The San Francisco Police Department which provides security at sfo, was also out in force, but they kept their distance from the protesters. You know, we obviously want to allow for free speech activity, but the safety and the security of our passengers is number one. And thats really where our focus is today. By 11, 30 wednesday morning, the cars blocking the roadway had been towed away. The protesters help one final rally outside along the curb. And then they quickly boarded. Well take a live look now at sfo because if there are people who need to catch an international flight, anyone that was trying to do that this morning, they were blocked from their gates by those protesters at last check, there have been 117 delays, 5 cancellations that more than twice the amount of disruptions scene in oakland and san jose airports and travelers tell us the airports Quick Response helped calm the chaos there. The San Francisco chapter of the council on American Islamic relations also responded to todays protest gave us the statement. It reads in part here we are appreciative of the many people locally nationally and globally who are continuing to engage in protest to call for a ceasefire. All people of conscience must continue to speak out and take action to end the suffering. Todays protest coming almost 4 months after dozens of protesters shut down all the westbound lanes of the bay bridge. This is video from that protest that took place in november. Protesters stopped their cars on the bridge just east of treasure island. They through their keys into the bay before chaining themselves together and to the bridge. The protest shut down traffic on the bay bridge for about 4 hours. 80 people were arrested and 78 were charged in connection with an unlawful Public Assembly due to that protest. Were also following some developing news out of the south bay this afternoon as a teenager is in custody following a shelterinplace order, officers responded to Willow Glen High School in san jose after reports that a student had brought a weapon onto campus. The shelter in place went into effect around 12, 30 and according to san jose police, that student was found with a bb gun. But no one was hurt and the shelterinplace was lifted at about 2. 15, and parents have been allowed back on campus to pick up their kids. Were talking about our forecast now with a look at the blue skies in the sun here. Going out across towards the north bay. Were taking a live look now from a different perspective here from the east bay. You can see those blue skies are pervasive in the visibility allowing us to see. All the way down to the golden gate bridge. You know, its a Beautiful Day when, but we do have a little wind coming our way as we head into our evening and it last through thursday and into the first part of friday. So its going to be an offshore wind event, which normally we talk about not during this season, but as we get into fallen in fire season. So right now you can see 20 Miles Per Hour. Winds still coming ashore here at sfo. But were going to see is this when turn to the north from the north . You can see that already in fairfield right now. And concord. And when that happens, you get a very dry kind of warm air mass that comes through with it. So you can see they have a high warning that is over in the in the sierra. But for us here in the bay area, its going to be a wind advisory kicks in at 5 oclock for most of our spots that are up in elevation. So any of our peaks, any of our mountains our hills, but then at 10 oclock tonight, if youre in the north bay and east bay valleys, were talking about winds that are going. 25 to 35 Miles Per Hour and gust upwards of 40 Miles Per Hour. And as i mentioned, this really gets into a thursday and even the first part of friday. So right now you can see that were nice and clear with our skies. But as we zoom out, you start to see where weve got a little bit of High Pressure sitting right offshore. And whats happening is the gradient between high and low pressure. Getting into the vehicle, but they did not get away with thats because joey hawker confronted the 2 armed suspects for early monday morning attempted to steal his when he received an alert on his phone. Theres bullet holes here and the first one hit right at my head level and honorably discharged sergeant u. S. Marines hawker slipped on his front door steps in san lorenzo which may have saved his he says at least one of the weapons the suspects fired was an ak. 47 directed at his head. And again, if you look over to concord, if you lookoto fairfield, you start to see that northerly direction. Thats the indication that were starting to get the offshore wind thats blowing. So timing wise, this offshore wind is going to pick up late this afternoon about 5, 6 oclock. Its going to really intensify on thursday. I think thats when most of us are going to feel it on thursday into friday morning. The things to look out for here, some tree limbs down. Certainly some minor Power Outages are possible. And you just want to make sure that youre ready for it. If youre going to be going across the bridges and youre in a highprofile vehicle, you could really, you know, start to get that shaking. Get a little scary sometimes. So here is what were going to be looking out for tonight. So you start to see this rolling, especially if you look towards spaces like that was peak sonoma. But that was not the case earlier today, protesters arrived at the old airport around 8. 30 this morning and lined up to start protesting the war in gaza by 09 00am they lined up blocking with a giant. But banner that read, stop the world for gaza. They were speakers talking into megaphones chanting from the group and drums being played. They stayed beside the security checkpoint until around 11 20am. And then moved outside where they join. Another group of protesters calling for a ceasefire. They were there for about less than half an hour before dispersing around 11 45am. No arrests were made. But Airport Security in San Francisco Police Officers were on site the entire time monitoring the situation. Travelers were caught off guard. I spoke to eric and darcy carew late. Were traveling to rome today from sfo and were concerned they might miss their flight because of the protest. It was hard to find a place around here is to kind relax and and a bit with all the chaos. Was pretty that it gave me really bad anxiety. I pick up Peoples Energy and feel all the negative energy and entire building. So that wasnt get their flight to rome was not impacted like most flights at sfo. There were some delays on the departure board, but airport officials on site to direct passengers to other screening locations during the roughly 3 hours that protesters were here reporting live at sfo. With the huge majority. The house passed a bill that could lead to a nationwide ban of tiktok with every dance challenge in lip sync video. American users are unknowingly contributing to a vast surveillance apparatus. The legislation requires tiktoks Parent Company bytedance which is based in china. But if if the platform is banned, that we get all kinds of other unknowns, like, for example, whos going to be liable if people do access the find a way to do it through a vpn, for example or or something else. Happening tonight, San Francisco City Employees will attend what theyre calling a Strike School and preparation for a possible strike. The judge struck down to 6 charges against trump and some of his codefendants. The judge struck down the 6 charges, including some counts. There were 10 of them facing trump that have now been left in place. The dismiss counts have to do with soliciting Election Officials to violate their oaths of office. Those stem from the calls that President Trump made to the georgia secretary of state saying that he wanted to, quote, find the votes needed to win. The judge says that prosecutors are allowed to resubmit their case to a grand jury. The former president has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges. In washington, d. You can see that northerly flow. An indication that were starting to get towards this wind event. And i did look over at mount diablo. They were at about they had a 33 Miles Per Hour. But notice fairfield in concord seeing that northerly direction with some of the wind thats rolling right now. So you might want to be asking, why does this happen . Well, air pressure, it looks for equilibrium like many things in the universe and we have High Pressure and it is weekend low pressure. And this week, then between them, the iso bars are also producing week wind. But when they get strong and you see ice of our start to squeeze together, indicating that pressure is increasing. Then you start to see that really fast high wind that happens and we get offshore winds. Weve got High Pressure here. Weve got low pressure there.
