And the one difference is that police were ready for protest. Then they were on high alert. They had officers mobilize it canceled vacations. They had officers at the ready to respond. Where is this protest came out of the blue. And so after longer to get police polarized, they also brought in buses. Dont forget they get the the Police Arrived on buses and they also had. Buses ready tright . So Mission Accomplished far. Is going to be unfolding for the couple of hours . And also check on your drive up. Did you see what we and reports of that . There were a number of deserted cars that may be some of the protesters arrive that way and left their cars and then those are going to be hauled off. Say that exactly. But there does appear to be some abandoned cars over interest. Another thing that were going to follow, chuck, and were going to take a quick commercial break. You can find out is. Where are rising passengers when they are arriving at the International Terminal . We already know you can get in that way. But when the flights arrive in the people disembark, are they going to be funneled somewhere else . And its going to have to be the domestic terminal somehow some way. If youre just joining us, hundreds of protesters now have blocked access to San FranciscoInternational AirportsInternational Terminals. Gates and g and you can see in this video whats playing out inside with demonstrators linking arms holding banners, blocking all access to the tsa lines there at the International Terminal because you cant use those tsa lines. You can see theyre linked together, blocking as you said, james, those accesses. To the International Terminal, theyre asking passengers to go to the domestic terminal thats the only way in and outside of also stop the roots to the dumb the International Terminal because the protesters are outside as well. We have Team Coverage and both directions. You cant get, you know, from the outside or the inside. You have to go for the domestic terminal thats causing delays. Those are going to continue to stack up throughout the morning. And its interesting that theyre calling it stopped the world for gaza. Theyre definitely stopping world travel. Lot of us of all right now because its become a big problem for travelers to get in and out of the International Terminal there and think of the logistics because as dari mention, theyre advising people to come to the domestic terminal. If you have an International Flight, right, once youre there, you still have fit quite a distance with your bags all the way to the International Terminal. Got a check you got to check in your bags that you got to walk all the way back to the domestic terminal to go through tsa. Right. And then once youre past tsa walked the back halls all the way back to the International Terminal to hopefully make your flight. And by the way, we dont even know about the arrivals because people are arriving, presumably on International Flights that are landing at sfo. And if you cant go through there to get again to your car to get over you know, to get your bags. We dont know how theyre handling that. These are questions that weve asked the airport, the airport and even the police that a surveil the airport are having. Kind of a delay and their response. Theyre just letting things stand in. Police arriving just sort of in a trickle with various patrol cars, one at a time sort of arriving with their lights on. Its not a mobilize response just yet by police lines. So its going to take a little while for them to ramp up the numbers enough to process the number of demonstrators, which right now are numbering in the hundreds that are blocking access there at the International Terminal, right . So the question is, if you have a flight, what he is supposed to do, where can you even get you know, im park, your car and everything else. And thats something reyna harvey been covering Traffic Center arena. Yeah, thats right. Officials straight from the airport. Tell you what you need to know right now. Avoid the International Terminal curb. If you are going to be traveling right now because you cant get to it, theyre saying to drop off passengers at the kiss and fly lot. Thats at the car rental center. That ad rest west area drive San Francisco 9 for one to 8. So thats an option for you. Once you get there, youve got to take the airtrain into the airport. There. If you are on the highway traveling along 1, 1, that exit 1, 1, at san bruno avenue to get to that lot. Another thing officials are saying you can take uber or taxi as long as youre going to the domestic terminal dropoff and then you can proceed from there. But youve got those 2 options. Again, thats at the kiss and fly lot. Thats at west area drive in San Francisco. Also be mindful the bark is another option for you. But again, darren, even talking about what you take, bart, youve got to do a lot of maneuvering right . And and will tran was able to get there and is inside. The airport has been talking to the protesters and hes been looking at frustrated travelers trying to figure out their way around the airport. Lets go back there live t Police Response and how they have to coordinate their standing back. Im a part of what makes these protests successful is the element of surprise. I am surprised that they were ablee to organize such a huge protest with no w intercept. Shut down for a little while for about 4 days ago. All right. So if you do have a flight, theyre telling you to go to the domestic terminal, which of course, is going to see an increase in passengers there. So this is having a huge Ripple Effect on travel, which is what these protesters want. They they they want to stop the world for gaza, as you can see here with the banner. And they are definitely stopping travel, at at the International Terminal of there are many flights that are starting to see delays because in this case, if you cant get through by the dozens of passengers, 10, 2030, if the passengers affected to that level, theyre going to delay flights to give people time to get to their flights. And were starting to see flights bound for taiwan. Looks like shanghai, montreal, just to name a few starting to start to see flights, big being held potentially. Its unclear if this is specifically related to this, but with no International Passengers being able to flow through get to their gates, it stands to reason that this is playing a factor in some of these flights. Now beginning to be delayed, as daryn mentioned, not too long ago Flights Airlines will start to do that if they see large numbers of passengers that are supposed to be on these planes not showing up yet and they know why they may hold it. But how long can they hold it . Thats another question. And as you can see, were also outside the airport where there were deserted cars and theres a protest as well going on outside of the International Terminal. What will and we had our first confirmation as he saw the tow trucks arriving to start towing away those vehicles because some of the protesters arrived in just ditch their cars in the middle of the road. And when inside the terminal, which is where fours will tran is. Hes inside with a big demonstration happening at the approach to the tsa that you cant talk to somebody . So theyre saying of what all together the International Terminal curb. So if you are going to be arriving at the airport, theyre telling people to be dropped off a kiss and fly a lot. Its right here. And if you are traveling along 1, youre going to exit there in san bruno avenue drives right into that car lot k sonia dropped off there. You still one more step catch the airtrain thats going to take you into the airport again, youre not to do little maneuvering, but at least you wont be stuck there trying to get to that international curb. Again, if you are going to be on some rideshare, james just mentioned a moment ago. Make sure you take that to the domestic terminal dropoff. Even if uber lyft, theyre saying, hey, will you need to go to this one . Make sure you tell them to do that because you cant get into the International Want if you are to be taken bart going straight through there. But again, once you hit the airport, youre going to have to get around some of the delays and theyre directing you once youre inside. I got out 500 and i fly a lot if i saw this and i had to fly internationally and the next one to 3, even 4 hours. You might be better off just taking a different flight, saying it will go out tomorrow because its going to take as youre pointing out, as rain is said to you have to, if youre if youre in at National Travel or right, you have to first go to the domestic, get dropped get get dropped off there. Then you have to take all your bags over to the International Terminal. Long walk. Right . And well has seen the lines there. So the news check and give them your bag, but then you can for their part, have to go back to its about a 15 minute walk straight to go back to the domestic trouble go through those tsa gate then walked back 15 minutes again to international trouble tarmac. Didnt hear case to get to. So if you normally give yourself 3 hours, maybe give yourself. An extra hour on top. For us our again, just, you know, decide that youre going to just catch another flight on a different day. And another point, Domestic Travel also might be, you know, delayed because its going to gum up security at the domestic lines are super long now back with more coverage in a minute. Will be a funny scene. A few tow trucks arrived so far causing lots of complications. And of course, those folks who cannot board or get through tsa at the International Terminal are having to put it all the way to the domestic terminal to get into that line with all the domestic passengers to try and get tsa and arriving flights. Passengers arriving at the sfo gates. They also are being told that they have to walk over the domestic trouble because you cant get in or out from the international area. So ubers an all of the lists are having to go the domestic as well. We have people in reporters stationed at each place. Were going to go first to will tran who is in the action right here with a protest and then well take you to the fallout as far as outside in the domestic terminal. All 8. 45 8. 30, in and it clearly a coordinated effort to get all of these people here will at are right away when we found out that this was an orchestrated demonstration we saw is happening in airports around the country. Colliding with a european airport demonstration that has been coordinated against climate problems and show the 5 of the major european airports are being affected. Today because of that demonstration, right . So with this is just a a bad day interNational Travel. Absolutely. And will we just got word a tweet not too long ago from the airport. Sfo. It just basically says due protest activity. We recommend passengers use air to go between the terminals. Now, daria. Now were doing the math. Its about a 15 minute brisk walk, but hopefully people know to use the air trench travel that that might shorten that time down a little bit. But i assume theres bathrooms a way theres right. A lot of the officers that are in the terminal right now are helping to direct people to the domestic terminal to get around this demonstration. We havent seen them assembling like we saw them on the bay bridges, though they were preparing to start engaging the protesters and taking them away. That part of the process has not begun yet. Were still waiting for that to develop something similar that we saw in the bay bridge, though, is happening over at sfo.
