Asian american activists that point to the recent attack by this alleged suspect because we dont know if theyre connected yet, but the Asian American activists, they believe so. So they believe what happened on march 4th should reopen that case. That happened back on july 3rd of last year. So take a look at your screen. There are many moving parts. We want to give you a timeline and they want to talk to the San Francisco police depament once again, this all started back on july 3rd of last year when gang fein will 63 years old was pushed to the ground in San Francisco. Then on 7. 17, of last year, the asian ameran justice movement, they were asking the San Francisco Police Department to release the video so they could see as well as the public can see the attack that happened to will then on the 21st, according to the Asian Justice Movement, they say their sources told them that the San Francisco Police Department was investigating this not as a homicide, but it turns out it was an accident. This is important to keep in mind because on march 4th of this year, more than a week ago. Well, they say there was another Asian American woman who was attacked. 71 years old by the same woman. Weiss is so important because they want to reopen the case and also point partial blame to the San Francisco Police Department saying had that woman been arrested and possibly prosecuted. She would not have been out on march 4th, the possibly and its all alleged at this point to attack the 71 yearold woman. And thats why they want the San Francisco Police Department to once again talk to the Asian Justice Movement as well as Asian American activist in San Francisco. If they reopen the case, well see what happens. They also want the San Francisco Police Department to possibly look at both incidents as possible hate crimes. Back to you. Now. Well, in the north and Fairfield School resource officer now has been arrested after being accused of sending Inappropriate Text Messages to 2 teenage girls. Fairfield police say that officer james lewis was working at Rodriguez High School when he sent the messages. Parents of those girls alerted the department. Lewis was later booked into the slot, a county jail. Hes now facing a series of charges including contacting a minor with intent to commit a crime. And in response to this ongoing investigation, the Police Department posted on its social media account. Quote, we are simultaneously disappointed, infuriated and saddened by this information. Well, lawmakers recently introduced a bill that would require california schools have armed officers on campus. Whenever students are present currently districts can choose whether to have them or not. But this legislation would remove that choice. The Education Committee could hear the bill as soon as march 18th. And if it does become law, the state would have to reimburse each district of the cost of having armed officers. Happening right now. Hundreds of College Students from across the state are rallying on the steps of the capitol. Theyre urging lawmakers to fund the Cal Grant Program to help reduce school debt for about 350,000 students. This is actually video from raleigh back in february. According to the associated press, federal investigators have seized computers and documents this morning from that prison. Prison has recently been at the center of a years long abuse investigation that led to previous charges against a former warden and other employees. According to the ap, the associate warden and a captain were removed from this facility this morning. While this raid was conducted, an Ap Investigation back in 2021. Found a culture of abuse and coverups that it persisted for years at the prison and that reporting led to increased scrutiny from congress and pledges from the federal bureau of prisons to fix the problems. At least 8 employees, including former warden ray garcia, have been charged with sexually abusing inmates. Garcia was convicted in 2022 molesting inmates and forcing them to pose naked in their cells. Its called the homeward bound program. It was initiated back in 2005 by governor gavin newsom when he served as San Francisco mayor. The Program Provides people with both travel and Relocation Assistance with an end goal of cleaning the streets of San Francisco and allowing up to 1000 unhoused people to get the chance to go back to their hometowns and reunite with family supervisor. Somebody says in recent years the program is only assisted a few 100 people, which is why hes proposing changes today to make sure it gets used. Were now putting him back in the municipal code ensuring that the Human Services agency hes overseeing the program between itself and the department homeless port of housing. And they will be in your reporting. And so we feel like this way, theres no way it can be sidelined again, very in the bureaucracy or an afterthought. The past critics have said that this program is simply a wave sweeping the issue under the rug. And pushing people out of the city. But the supervisor says thats not the case. Both sides, though, are set to meet with a state mediator this week. The union says they are the lowest paid among theyre nearby counties like solano and contra costa. The union will address School District Board Members at their meeting thursday night. And the dublin unified School District is already recruiting substitute teachers in preparation for potential teachers strike. The district is offering the substitute teachers about 600 per day for prek through 12th grade. If you do the math that comes to about 75 an hour.
