But the sierra, this is a major storm. Summing up breakdown both for us. Starting with the bay area right now, we do have some light showers pushing in across the region. Not too too bad. Just yet, though. In fact, radars looking really quiet here locally. Theres where your rain is stashed out further up to our north snow kicking off north of i80 this morning. Nothing around lake tahoe just yet massive system sitting in the gulf of alaska and Northern Pacific dropping down our direction. And as this cold air advances our way over the next 24 hours, we have got a big cool down in the works. This is going to lower snow elevation as low as 1500 feet starting tomorrow night, especially into saturday morning, could see some snowfall on bay area. Mountaintops, but really the sierra is where its going to be coming down. And i know a lot of people that go up to this year, this time of year, almost every weekend. Youre the type of people that are definitely used to it. I dont care who you are. What change youve got. This is not going to be a situation. You want to be messing around with 5 to 12 feet of snowfall falling on i80 at Donner Summit is going to make roadway travel impossible. It is going to take multiple days for plows to get up there and clear everything off. So if youre going to try to venture into that tonight, tomorrow into saturday, its not going to be looking good for anybody. We are seeing a few inches of snowfall in the mountains of the north bay. Very likely, especially into saturday morning and snow level falling to increasingly lower elevations. Its not just the feet up on the feet of snowfall either. But a blizzard warning in effect from 10 00am this morning through 10 00am on sunday. Weve got winds up there 60 to 80 Miles Per Hour the next several days. This is going put drifts right up to the rooftops of houses as well as results in roadways, just being even more impossible to servers. Snow level continues to fall into tomorrow. The worst of conditions will be friday and saturday, but picking up today, 5 to 10 plus feet of snowfall. Once you hit that 5,000 foot, mark, were seeing 4 to 8 feet of snow all the way down to lake tahoe. Thatll and once you get up to truckee, its going to be more like 9 to 12 feet of snowfall. So this is going to be extremely heavy stuff for us in the bay area are situation definitely not as dire. We will have pockets of heavy rainfall. But heres the good news. Water levels have dropped the past few days on rivers, streams and all our local of bodies of water. Now theyre able to absorb the impact from these showers. So we should have very minimal Flooding Risk here in the bay. We see as we move through today into tomorrow, some pockets of heavy rainfall mostly increasing this afternoon tonight into tomorrow. Those pockets of heavy rain could come along with a few isolated thunderstorms, too. Todays rainfall anywhere between a quarter and a half an inch for most spots. Were going to see several inches of rainfall just by saturday and even more than that on into next week, up and down the coastline, we will have some high surf, high surf advisories really going into effect tomorrow, though. Thats when were going to be seeing that dangerous. Well, up along the coast, winds picking up this afternoon, 30 to 40 Miles Per Hour. Gusts here locally temperatures for one more day seeing a couple of low 60s like an antioch in san jose. Most of us fall into the 50s tomorrow saturday and sunday will barely make the 50s. And at night temperatures will drop below freezing for a lot of inland valleys. That means mountain snowfall dropping to increasingly lower elevations. We are seeing heavy rainfall starting this afternoon likely through saturday with lingering showers into sunday. Right. All right, john, thanks for that was a role in year member. Things are going to be slick. Take your time this morning. 13 minutes on the bay bridge, san mateo bridge just under 15 did want to one, which is amber filbert about 9 minutes and the Golden Gate Bridge. 37 to the tolls. 20 minutes. Emerson college poll shows the race for californias open u. S. Senate seat is extremely client. Is capitol correspondent Eytan Wallace breaks down the results. Democrat adam schiff, thank you, everybody. Republican steve garvey. And democrat katie porter. Youre looking at the 3 leading candidates in the race for californias open u. S. Senate seat. That is according to this new inside california politics. Emerson college poll showing ship in the lead with 28 and garvey in second with 20 in 3rd place. But within the margin of error in reach of second places. Porter with 17 . Democrat barbara lee rounds out the top 4 at 8 . While all other candidates pulled a 2 or lower. I think the main takeaway here is that shift is likely to take that number one spot. But that second place that is up for grabs. Matt taglia helped to organize and conduct the poll. He says its important to remember this race is part of the states top 2 primary system, meaning the top 2 vote getters will advance to compete in the november general election all the more. So i tag know its much of the attention is now on porter and garvey as they do it out for runnerup. We see a real tightening per second place. So i think thats thats the headline here. He also says something to watch closely is this 17 of voters say they are still undecided. When asked who theyre leaning toward 19 of the undecided point to barb with shift and porter just behind. But even if you factor that in the poll finds ship would still be in the lead with garvey importer behind him. As for lee, without that baseline of supports, it might just be too little too late in the race for the white house. The poll found a joe biden and donald trump will easily win their respective primaries in california. A state where voters say their top issues include the economy, housing, affordability and as for governor Gavin Newsoms ballot measure known as proposition won, the poll found its likely to pass the proposal asks voters to approve a 6. 3, 8 billion dollar bond to fund more than 11,000 Behavioral Health beds and 27,000 treatment unit statewide for people experiencing Substance Use disorders and mental illness. The poll results, 69 of voters say they will vote yes, seeing supported close to 70 suggest that there is still widespread concern. Among californians that were not doing enough to take on this issue. Well, that was Eytan Wallace reporting. As for governor newsoms approval rating, the poll shows it stands at 49 . A lot of people in travel going to be virtually impossible bay area. We are starting with some light sprinkles. Rainfall will pick up this afternoon. Watch for some heavier pockets and listen for a few rolls of thunder too. Later today could hear some thunderstorms tomorrow. Much the same. Notice how that blew up in the sierra and even our north bay mountains really expands as we work our way on into tomorrow and saturday, temperatures will be plummeting along with that snow level falls to 1500 to 2000 feet in elevation. Once you head above 5,000 feet, though it is going to be 5 to 12 feet of snowfall. That is going to be way too much for those plows to keep up with. And we will be looking any road closures. Snow begins this morning. But the worst of snow is going to arrive tomorrow through saturday, along with the very strong winds. So we do have blizzard warnings in the sierra in effect today through saturday. Temperatures are right now in the 40s to 50s for the bay. Very mild start to this morning. You can think all those clouds and the showers for that really moderating temperatures during overnight hours. Today is just going to be an overcast one with those areas of heavy rain later on today. And starting this morning at 10 oclock, the National Weather service in reno actually is issuing a blizzard warning for about a 300 mile stretch all the way from the sierra from north of lake tahoe, down to south of Yosemite National park. The areas that you have widespread blowing snow that will create blizzardlike and whiteout conditions essentially causing travel to be really impossible and extremely dangerous as you wont be able to see whats ahead of you. Even within a few feet. Experts say there may be between 2 to 4 feet of snow in towns along tahoes. Sure.
