People pay hundreds of dollars to stay at the ritz carlton in Half Moon Bay. Now the Luxury Resort is facing a lawsuit from 2 of its loyal customers who say they were sexually assaulted by a staff member here. During sunset at the ritz carlton in Half Moon Bay guests can be seen enjoying the property in coastal views. A husband and wife state here one night last november for a restful weekend to celebrate her birthday. But their stay is now being described as causing horror and trauma. Court documents filed this month identified the couple as jane and john doe stating jane drink seem in contaminated water from a water bottle served by ritz carlton staffer. The lawsuit claims once she realized what she ingested, they contacted Hotel Management and filed a report with the San Mateo County sheriffs office. Court documents say the ritz carlton later sent a water bottle to a laboratory for testing and results confirmed it contains seaman in january. However, they say the hotel allegedly refused to provide a copy of the Lab Test Results to the does so they could share them with their medical providers. And the couple claims the hotel refused to work with Law Enforcement as well. The couple says the hotel attempted to compensate for their troubles by offering Marriott Rewards points. The do say the damage goes far beyond that. The wife and husband have both gone to therapy since the incident. The lawsuit seeks to remedy the Emotional Distress caused the 2 on the hotel to pay for damages for battery and negligence as well as the legal costs. Theyre also asking for a jury trial to settle this case. We reached out to ritz carlton and to the San Mateo County sheriffs office. We did not hear back in time for this report. And now Oakland Police are using some of those viral videos in the ad of them to catch these crooks in real time. Take a look. Starting this weekend, people will be able to report any type of breakin or a suspicious person directly to the Oakland Police department. And were talking about direct messages using photos, videos and other information using the social media handle at oakland auto burke. It will be on both instagram and x, formerly known as twitter. Opd says the hope is that with details that come in from the public, its Surveillance Team will be able to catch the criminals and be able to see what areas are being targeted the most. State senator scott wiener Just Announced a bill to try to make it more difficult for criminals to get away with smashandgrabs. Has its way. And in San Francisco, they want to eliminate the requirement that prosecutors have to prove a car was locked at the time that it was broken into the law failed to pass in 2018 2019. But wiener is confident its going to be successful this time given how common smashandgrabs have become he plans to introduce this bill next year when the state Legislature Reconvenes the current law requires victims be physically present in the courtroom. Well, a north Bay High School was put on lockdown yesterday morning following reports of a student with a knife. Police responded to a Piner High School just before noon. They say they received reports about a 15 yearold that got into an argument with several other students at the Schools Library and then threatened them with a knife before leaving campus. Police later learned that the teen did, in fact, have a knife on campus 3 days ago. The knife was confiscated then, but he did not bring another night yesterday. Police arrested the teen, though, for possession of a weapon on campus inside him and released him to his parents. Well, another teachers strike prevented in the bay area of the Gilroy Teachers Association and the City School District have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract this week. Both sides have been negotiating 6 in september of last year. Some highlights of the deal include a 13 ongoing Salary Increase over 2 years, reducing class size ratios to just 24 students per teacher for the first through 3rd grades and then additional pay for dual immersion teachers and maintaining employee contributions to health and Welfare Benefits as well. The tentative agreement will go to a ratification vote starting on november. 1st. Faculty and staff at city college of San Francisco. Holding a rally there. They want a new contract. Let me pull up a map for you so i will show you what we will be dealing in the 36 hour window for most of northern california, but specifically for our purposes marin, napa, sonoma, santa cruz counties, of course, including the east bay area as well. Were talking from 05 00am on saturday morning, all the way until sunday at 05 00pm. A 36 hour window where you could be precarious as far as the conditions, especially in the higher elevations. And thats why theyre telling you to be careful, create defensible space. We are in the heart of fire season right now. Create defensible space. As lawmakers confront this latest deadly shooting, its giving some a new reason to fight for gun control and for at least one of them, its forcing a change in perspective. It does not have to be this with reeling from shock and devastation after a shooter killed 18 people. Theres a renewed push for stronger gun laws. Its within congresss power to pass legislation that will make our streets safer. That will make our community safer. President biden and democrats are calling for universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons. We clearly have a gun violence epidemic here in the United States of america. That needs to be addressed with the fierce urgency of now heartbroken by the shooting in his home district. Democratic congressman jared golden is changing his stance now saying hes reversing his longheld opposition to an assault weapons ban. The time has now come for me to take responsibility for this failure. Which is why i now call on the United States congress to ban assault rifles. But republicans are reluctant to reopen discussions about gun policy. I just dont think we should be injecting politics right now. And new Speaker Mike Johnson did not dive into the debate with that, the republicans control the without their support. New gun laws likely wont pass. But the white house challenge speaker johnson use this issue to prove he can work across the aisle. He said hes ready to get to work to find common ground. Now is the time now is the time to find common ground. And the San Francisco department of Public Health is cracking down now on Street Vendors who sell Meat Products without permits. So these are photos that the department uploaded to social media. They were taken by health inspectors. The Department Says that unpermitted vendors lack proper refrigeration and access to clean water and washing stations and often keep food in unsanitary conditions. So theyre encouraging that you check for a permit before you buy food from Street Vendors. San jose University State university wants to partner with public School Districts in santa clara to help house teachers. The university wants to build developments and use a building that they acquired in 2020 to help house their own faculty, staff and graduate students. Plus teachers and employees from various School Districts in Santa Clara County, for example, and san jose unified or alum Alum Rock Union School District. They would be included. The plan is for the School Districts to sublease rooms from the university. The board president of the milpitas School District says the teachers are unable to manage their housing needs. Yeah, the announcement comes just days after californias dmv. You may have heard they suspended the companys permits over safety concerns proper stance for with a closer look now at this entire story. Just days after having the robotaxi permits revoked in california, crews pause its driverless operations nationwide. There have been a number of incidents involving cruise cars malfunctioning on San Francisco streets. And nobodys been arrested. On the peninsula, south San Francisco police have arrested a man accused of stealing a car and being in possession of stolen credit card. Several of them is a matter of fact, a brief pursuit happened on tuesday on sister cities boulevard when officers received an alert, car was stolen. The suspect abandoned that car in this residential neighborhood but was caught by police. Just a few moments later. And a search of that car found several credit cards that did not belong to him. The suspect was taken into custody and is now facing several charges. Today. East bay congressman Eric Swalwell will be holding a cybersecurity summit for Small Business owners. The summit is going to be today at las piscinas college in livermore for 9. 30, this morning until one this afternoon. The event will focus on connecting businesses with Government Resources to protect themselves against cyber threats. Congressman swalwells office says 43 of Cyber Attacks target Small Businesses. And hes talking further about what the situation was. So Joseph Emerson is his name. You see his picture there on the screen. He faces one federal charge of interfering with a flight crew. In the meantime, his wife, an attorney now are speaking out from pours. Dan kerman has that story. This is the moment Alaska Airlines pilot Joseph Emerson was escorted off the plane. Prosecutors say he tried to bring down. Anderson made his first appearance in federal court thursday. Hes accused of trying to shut down the jets engines midflight sunday by activating the planes, Fire Suppression system. Emerson was off duty and writing in the cockpit at the time and was stopped by the 2 pilots flying the plane. He now faces one federal charge interference with flight crew members and attendants. Federal Court Documents reveal emerson telling the pilots im not ok before reaching up and grabbing the red fire handles and pulling them down after pilots removed him from the cockpit. Flight attendants say once seated in the back of the aircraft, emerson turned toward an emergency exit door and tried to grab the handle but was stopped by a Flight Attendant. Another Flight Attendant observed emerson say i missed everything up and that he tried to kill everybody during a subsequent interview with authorities. Documents indicate emerson admitted he was mentally in crisis. Authorities say emerson also said, yeah, i pulled both emergency shutoff fanduels because i thought i was dreaming and i just want to wake up. Emerson denied taking any medication but admitted in state Court Documents he had consumed magic mushrooms. Approximately 48 hours prior to the incident on the plane, emerson told a Police Officer i put 84 peoples lives at risk today, including my own. Despite the statements, emersons attorney ethan levy told reporters outside federal court there was no intention to harm himself or other people. Emersons wife adding this is not my joe. He never would have done that. He never would i married. Clearly Mental Health. Well play a role in the case. Stephen clark is a bay area, defense attorney. It essentially tampered with the aircraft and what hes describing is an impulsive act. And i think that will be the focus of the defense that this wasnt premeditated. Lets bring down or point. This is someone who acted impulsively in a complete Mental Health breakdown that had been building up to this point, what the prosecution will try to do is say that heat premeditated this, that he planned it and they can show that by what he did leading up to getting into that cockpit and what he did after the fact. But he appeared to be speaking somewhat rationally. Now, the single federal charge can carry with a 20 years in federal prison. In the meantime, he also faces state charges. 83 counts of Second Degree attempted murder. Emerson remains locked up in jail in portland. His next federal Court Appearance is november 22nd. Police were chasing the stolen infinity that you see here on the screen on tennessee street last monday, the driver pulled over near the Cal State Maritime Academy campus. 2 men got out of that car and then ran towards the gate near the campus dorms. Thats when one of the suspects impaled his leg on a spike on that gate. Police found a loaded gun nearby. The other suspect was able to run away. But the suspect who got tangled up on that fence, his leg was removed and he was hospitalized. No word on his condition. The driver of the stolen car was notified came to the scene to get that car back. Happening tonight, San Franciscos Palestinian American Coalition is set to hold a vigil for peace.
