Were able to stop him and the San Francisco bound plane diverted to portland and emerson was then taken into custody, according to some new court documents, emerson told the port of Portland Police following his arrest that he had been struggling with depression and then a friend had recently died and he had taken some psychedelic mushrooms about 48 hours before he attempted to cut the engines. He also says he did not sleep in more than 40 hours. Alaska airlines said today that emerson has been relieved of all of his duties and federal prosecutors. On tuesday, the fbi filed a criminal complaint against robert emerson. In that complaint, they detail the moments before and after he allegedly tried to turn off the engines of the plane in a federal criminal complaint filed against joseph emerson. The fbi says that the pilot and copilot of horizon flight 2, 0, 5, 9 had casually spoken with emerson who was sitting in the cockpit. Jump seat for several minutes after takeoff and did not initially believe that anything was wrong. They also claim to have never met emerson prior to the flight. But according to the fbi, while the plane was flying over oregon emerson suddenly said i am not okay. He then allegedly reached up and pulled to read engine, showed off, handles one of the pilots then struggled with emerson for several seconds. While the other pilot declared an inflight emergency turned the autopilot off and change the aircraft course to fly to portland. Emerson then left the cockpit and walked to the back of the plane where he allegedly told a Flight Attendant you need to cuff me right now or its going to be bad. The Flight Attendants then placed handcuffs on him or somebody allegedly tried to grab the handle of a nearby emergency exit and had to be restrained. Emerson was also overheard saying i messed everything up and that he had tried to kill everybody after the plane landed in portland. Officers took emerson into custody while being questioned. He told police that he was having a nervous breakdown and had not slept in 40 hours and felt tired and dehydrated. He also allegedly denied taking any medication but said that he had been depressed for several months. He also talked about the use of psychedelic mushrooms and said it was his first time taking mushrooms, according to the Portland Police department. Emerson waived his rights to attorney and said im admitting to what i did. Im not fighting any charges you want to bring against me guys. The dmv says cruises vehicles were deemed to be quote, not safe for the publics operation and that the company misrepresented information related to their safety. We are running a little bit cooler than we were this time yesterday for the most part of can see santa rosa and San Francisco up about a degree oakland up about a degree. But we are really going to see these temperatures change as we get into tomorrow. So lets take a look at where we are right now. And you can see where the clouds are and where the cubs are bright. Little cooler spots like San Francisco in Half Moon Bay. But weve got a little bit warmer. All be a little cooler than yesterday. I kind of the rest of the bay area, north bay, south bay and east bay. Were going to see the wind pick up again. I know thats not a big surprise. We see that pretty much after every afternoon. But watch what happens as we get into tomorrow because were going to wake up with some of those breezy conditions there to continue throughout the day on our wednesday. And then by thursday, notice a little northerly flow starting to happen there. As we take a look at spots like atlas peak and we look at fairfield, that is a slight offshore wind components could be coming our way and has everything to do with this low pressure system thats going to be tracking through. Now. Its bringing rain to the pacific northwest. Likely just going to cool us down. Theres the slightest chance of a north bay shower. I think it is very slight. But i do think you can see a few sprinkles tomorrow from this front. But really its all about the temperatures changing. So while today, despite and rose are looking after 70s tomorrow, well be lucky to get out of the 60s. And you can see that same story in concord. A san jose likely dropping about 7 degrees for tomorrow. Not so different in San Francisco because weve kind of hung on to the clouds in spots today. Want to just mention really quickly, we just had a the National Weather service put out a lake wind advisory for lake tahoe, starting at 11 oclock tonight. And then as we look ahead to thursday overnight lows, some of you to be dropping into the 30s and some of our inland valleys and then a slight shower chance on friday as well. So were getting into that kind of cooler pattern over the next few days. Currently, though, were sitting about 75 in san jose, but its cool out at the coast. You can see that in Half Moon Bay and pacifica and notice even head up to bodega bay just 56 degrees right now. But 76 in santa rosa, you can you know, 76 in spots like livermore concord, as you head inland. But 62 in San Francisco kind of splitting the difference there. If we take a live look from the east bay, theres been some cloud cover there all day in parts of the east bay. And just to kind of talk about these temperatures over the next few days, we look at berkeley as an example going down the hill as we head to tomorrow, not as dramatic in berkeley as it will be in some other spots, though. Let me show you in future cast. What happens here. So we have a few clouds rolling in tomorrow. When you wake up tomorrow morning and then notice a few showers kind of to the north and to the east. Thats why i think the north bay has that slight chance of a little bit of a shower rolling through. But it wont be anything too significant. Then by thursday, we clear out. But about thursday, thursday morning, were going to see some very chilly temperatures for the first time in a while. In fact, we even have the potential a few spots in those inland valleys, very sheltered from wind to potentially get to some record setting cold. So Santa Rosa Petaluma cloverdale spots that could get into those 30s. You can see napa looking at about 41, you know, in some 40s and other areas. But just a heads up. If youve got those plants that are outside or, you know, things that you need to protect, just make sure you get ready for that in the north bay particular. Want to talk about this ceiling fan of your house . Well, you probably have it set in the summer setting where its counter clockwise and the reason for that is because we get the air force straight down this way to a little bit of a chilling effect. The bay area, air Quality Management district is rejecting new air monitoring plans from all 5 local refineries. The air district says its rejecting the plans because they do not meet the requirements for tracking emissions and pollutants. The district says the refineries were required to update their fence line air monitoring to detect hydrogen sulfide. So fenceline air monitoring measures, the specific pollutants refineries, property lines. The air quality district says it will work with these refineries to make the necessary improvements. Yeah, ive got 2 hurricanes, one of the pacific one in the atlantic. Kind of interesting or talk about el nino. An el nino can have an effect on Hurricane Development in the pacific. Generally you get less wind shear, which is the upperlevel wind that can kind of cut off developments. We can get more hurricanes in the atlantic. You get more, which is the opposite effect or 8, but weve had a pretty active season. So lets head into atlantic. We have a category one hurricane. Tammy now sustained winds of about 75 Miles Per Hour. Now, this one doesnt cause me that much concern because as you can see, it doesnt strengthen it. Weekends and that kind of turns and it might bring a little rain to the east coast, but thats about it. Now, lets talk about this onin the pacific. This thing just went underwent whats called rapid intensification and jumped up just to a category 3 in this last round that the Hurricane Hunters just flew into hurricane otis. So you can see where it is sitting. It is off the coast of acapulco by about 115 miles. And 125 Miles Per Hour, sustained winds expected to strengthen to a category 4 as it heads inland in the next 12 to 24 hours. And were expecting we could have lifethreatening storm surge with this incredible rain and the threat of mudslides. And you can see it is really just centered right on acapulco. And you see that as well as the rain forecast. All of that red area, there is where the highest totals are expected. So keeping an eye on this very sad situation. We had something just like this happened not too long ago as well. Were looking im more into areas like puerto vallarta, right where we have this happen. So rapid intensification, something thats been happening a bit regularly in the pacific. So right now we are pretty sunny skies in San Francisco about 62 degrees. Were not going to get any kind of wintery weather, but were going to get some colder air as that front passes through that same front thats going bring those snow storms to those we right now are starting to the wind pick up a little bit there. You can see it. San francisco to 14 Miles Per Hour. We are also seeing that marine layer presents that is out there. Temperatures staying cool. If you are out by the coast or in San Francisco in the 50s still because of that cloud cover and then sunday, 70s as you head inland, where theres a little more sunshine. So this is that system thats bringing the rain to the pacific northwest. Thats going to bring snow storms, 2 parts of montana and idaho that i was showing you today. Were staying out of that. But by tomorrow that front is going to pass through now. Rain wise. I dont think its going to much maybe clip the north bay and bring a sprinkle or 2. But the cool air behind it will reach all of us and cool us down so that our highs tomorrow, going to be significantly cooler. If you are inland now, if youre out by the coast, its going to be a little cooler, right . San francisco about 63 not too different from today, but if youre inland where you bed yesterday, maybe 80 degrees today, youre in the upper 70s. Youre talking about just 60s and 70s tomorrow. And that kind of covers the entire bay area. Well be looking at maybe getting to 70 degrees, a couple of inland spots and thats about it. So that cooler air rolls in tomorrow. Again, that slight chance of a little shower in the north bay by thursday, were going to really get cool in the morning. Thats going to see those temperatures drop staying in the 60s by friday. Another front rolling through this one has a slight chance of a shower with it and continues that cooling effect both in the mornings and the afternoons. We should start to clear out get some sunshine as we roll into the weekend. I i of course, is over here halloween were going to get a little closer to that to lock it in. And that is because of that frontal passage thats going to start cooling us down. So take a look at your highs tomorrow. Theyre not so very high. Looking out for 63 in San Francisco, just some of those upper 60s up in the north bay. Couple of low 70s over in the east bay. But for the most part, you know, you can see san jose about 71, but lots of 60s around the bay. So that means that tomorrow when you head out, youre definitely gonna take that jacket with you. It has everything to do with some of things are going to be happening with this low pressure system thats going to bring in some cool air behind it. So as we take a look at our extended forecast, you can see that cool air kind of sticks with us as we roll through the week, a slight chance of a shower tomorrow in the north bay. As we see that front passed through, then we get into some really chilly temperatures there in inland spots, especially in valleys that are shelter that dont get a lot of wind kind of mixing those to air masses. Thats going to be cool thursday into friday and notice will get the sunshine back for the weekend, but still staying with those temperatures. You know it looking at the 60s, really not a whole lot of 70s out there. Well pick it up a little bit as we start our work week next week.
