Suspect and new video emerging of an east bay Police Shooting that contradicts officers testimony as to why they say they opened fire on the victim. And the California Department of Motor Vehicles has suspended crews from operating its driverless taxis in San Francisco. How the company is now responding. News station. Hes calling news 2. Thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 2. Im Justine Waldman and joseph emerson. A Pleasant Hill faces 167 charges, including attempted murder. Hes accused of trying to shut down the engines of a commercial plane that was filled with passengers on its way to San Francisco. He was off duty at the time. Were learning a lot this afternoon as to what unfolded kron. 4 Charles Clifford joins us now live from Pleasant Hill with details from what the Court Documents are saying. Its involving him possibly taking mushrooms. Well, so this the issued a criminal complaint against the suspect in this case accusing him of interfering with the operation of an aircraft. We have reviewed that document which shed some light on what may have happened on the plane. In a federal criminal complaint filed against joseph emerson, the fbi says that the pilot and copilot of horizon flight 2, 0, 5, 9, had casually spoken with emerson who was sitting in the cockpit jump seat for several minutes after takeoff and did not initially believe that anything was wrong. They also claimed to have never met in person prior to the flight. But according to the fbi, while the plane was flying over oregon emerson suddenly said i am not okay. He then allegedly reached up and pulled to read engine, showed off, handles one of the pilots then struggled with emerson for several seconds. While the other pilot declared an inflight emergency turned the autopilot off and change the aircraft course to fly to portland. Emerson then left the cockpit and walked to the back of the plane where he allegedly told a Flight Attendant you need to cuff me right now or its going to be bad. The Flight Attendants then placed handcuffs on him or somebody allegedly tried to grab the handle of a nearby emergency exit and had to be restrained. Emerson was aleo overheard saying i messed everything up and that he had tried to kill everybody after the plane landed in portland. Officers took emerson into custody while being questioned. He told police that he was having a nervous breakdown and had not slept in 40 hours and felt tired and dehydrated. He also allegedly denied taking any medication but said that he had been depressed for several months. He also talked about the use of psychedelic mushrooms and said it was his first time taking mushrooms, according to the Portland Police department. Emerson waived his rights to attorney and said im admitting to what i did. Im not fighting any charges you want to bring against me guys. All right. Back live now. The fbi also says that the plane was just seconds away from losing power and becoming a glider at high altitude. It was only thanks to the quick actions of the pilot and the copilot, but they were able to maintain control. But for now in the east bay, Charles Clifford kron, 4 news. Charles, thank you so much. And staying in the east bay, a man shot multiple times by any Police Officers earlier this month during a foot chase disputes Police Accounts that he pointed the gun at them. Kron 4 all shows us. Police say an Antioch Community Service Officer requested backup after spotting 2 cars parked on west 3rd street. Wanted in connection with the recent burglary in town. Police say officer marcus looked into the vehicle and noticed a gun active police say when mac and woke up. He did not comply with commands and instead drove towards the officers. The cell phone video picks up the encounter with mac and running away from the vehicle and then being chased by the officers and canines. Police say the officers opened fire fearing for their lives because they allege he turned toward them. And pointed the gun listen, the noles says the video shows a different story. I dont see anything. Turning around went and got it right to the heart of the shooting beginning. And in the video, you can distinctly here of the shots ring out while he still within view, the Contra Costa County District Attorneys Office has charged makin with assault with a Deadly Weapon on a peace officer. Felon in possession of a firearm receiving a stolen vehicle and resisting arrest. He also had a warrant for his arrest for his alleged involvement in a homicide. One of the things hes been charged with those assault with a Deadly Weapon. Lets not the firearms charge. And so theyre not alleging that he i did. The da is not alleging that he actually pointed a gun at original charges to suggest that actually have the District Attorneys Office declined to comment on this case because it is ongoing. But a spokesperson acknowledges prosecutors have seen the cell phone video. Though it is not clear if the das office was aware of the video before makin entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment last week. The Police Department spokesperson says the agency intends to release the body camera video within 45 days of the incident. Philippe djegal all kron. News. A big setback for Driverless Cars in San Francisco today. The dmv suspended cruises permit to operate its Autonomous Vehicles immediately. The dmv says cruises vehicles were deemed to be quote, not safe for the publics operation and that the company misrepresented information related to their safety. In a statement, cruz says the suspension is linked to the dmv investigation into a collision from october. 2nd, a hit and run driver hit a woman in the area of market and 5th streets that knocked her into the past of a cruise vehicle. The company said the vehicle detected a collision and came to a stop. But then tried to pull over to avoid further safety road issues and pulled the woman forward about 200 feet. Cruz says it is fully cooperating with the investigation. Today. Suspension does not impact cruises permit for testing of vehicles with a safety driver inside. Its not that dramatic, right about 4 degrees difference from today into tomorrow. But for many others, it is going to get quite chilly. So looking at futurecast take you into our day tomorrow, some clouds moving in and then you start to see a little shower action up there in the north bay. But its very slight. And for the most part, this is state saying to the north and the east of us, then we get a pretty nice day on thursday, but thursday, as were going to see some of these overnight lows get very chilly. The 2023 summit is set to be held in San Francisco Adams County Center in just 3 weeks. This is very significant. And were looking forward to the relationships that occur to put this into perspective. There has not been another International Event of this magnitude in the city since 1945 . When francisco hosted the establishment of the united nations. There are concerns, however, from local businesses and those who live nearby the Convention Center as a perimeter will be set up. There been ongoing meetings with the community and with businesses, more of a doortodoor approach to understand what the impacts they believe could occur and how we could be a supportive or helpful. The Contra Costa County library has been awarded 9 Million Dollars for from the state for the construction of a new library bay point, this new library will be part of a mixed use Development Near the pittsburg bay point bart station. It will also include over 300 lowincome Housing Units and retail space. The Current Library is located at the middle school, which county Library Officials say has limited power and telecommunications access. The new library is expected to open in 2027. The eastbound lanes of the dumbarton bridge will be closing overnight for 4 nights starting next week. On halloween. Caltrans is closing those lanes for 4 nights to do some re paving. We are committed to take all necessary steps to preserve safe and respectful opportunities for athletic play. All of west maui except for the burn sections of la hina will reopen to tourism on november. 1st, thousands, though, are opposing this decision. Nearly 17,000 people have signed the petition to try to delay the reopening of west maui, saying that the community is not ready, but now hes county mayor says anyone who is not ready to return to work should talk with their employers and officials with the hawaii tourism. Authorities say people have been staying in hotels after losing their homes will not lose their lodging because of the reopening. The bay area. Air Quality Management district is rejecting air monitoring plans for all 5 local refineries. The air district says its rejecting the refineries plans because they do not meet the requirements for tracking emissions and pollutants. The district says the refineries were required to update their fence line air monitoring in order to detect Hydrogen Sulfide fenceline air monitoring measure specific pollutants crossing refineries, property lines, the air quality district says it will work with the firefighter is to make the necessary improvements. The grape harvest Larson Family winery was delayed about a month because of the wet winter record rainfall also transform their driveway behind me. The driveway was taken over by flood waters after record rainfall from january to march chardonnay.
