The Union Representing teachers with the San Francisco Unified School District have announced a tentative deal has been reached and it looks like they are averting that possible strike earlier this month, the union had authorized a strike if contract negotiations broke down. But the good news is this morning, the unit posted on x, formerly known as twitter that it deal has been reached. They did that at 6 oclock this morning. According to the post, the agreement is for 2 years. The union says this deal includes a substantial raise for their members, improved working conditions and more students support. So now it will go to the rank and file. Well see if they vote approve it. All right. Well have any tonight in the south bay, a main thoroughfare. Its going to be closed for the entire weekend. It is. Yeah, were talk about southbound lanes of highway 87 through san jose. A lot of people use it, but theyre going to be repaving. So you cant use it this weekend. Kron fours will tran in san jose with the well. Come 9 oclock. This is off limits to the public as caltrans will take it over. They could have done it in the overnight hours on many occasions, but they figured lets just get it done all together at one time. So it will be there as were about 56 hours. And thats going impact if youre heading saying northbound on 87, theyre saying the best detour for you is to get off on. 85. Go through the surface streets and reconnect at a later point. If you want to go in 87, if youre heading southbound, used same use the surface streets. You want to reconnect after blossom hill road. The good news is they say this should wrap things up and they have a hard deadline of monday. 5 oclock in the morning when they return this stretch of 87 back to the public in time. Governor flew yesterday said his plans to meet with israeli people affected by the war and offer california support. The Governors Office also announcing a 30 Million Dollar investment towards security for places of worship conflict in the middle east has heightened fears safety for california and faith communities. The governor has a lot 10 Million Dollars go to increasing Police Presence at places of worship. Another 20 Million Dollars of support a Grant Program dedicated to enhancing security and nonprofit organizations consider high risk violent attacks. Michael, thank 908, is the time San Francisco police have released body camera footage and 911 calls related to the crash and deadly shooting at the chinese consulate last week. The footage shows that john yuan liang was armed with a knife when he drove his vehicle into the consulate last monday. Now we do want to warn you, you may see some of this body camera footage might be difficult to watch, but we have some of it for you. The 911 call came in just after 3 oclock in the afternoon saying that a person driven right into the consulate and that they were armed Police Arrived about 4 minutes later, by the time they got their pepper spray had already been deployed. The body camera shows that Police Ordered yang to get to the ground, but he didnt. And heres some of the body camera footage as officers came in. Instead, apparently he stood against a wall, held a knife. And when a Security Guard and an sfpd sergeant tried to arrest him, they began swinging that knife. The sergeant block mister yangs right elbow as missing yang continue to turn towards them. Mister yang made multiple rapid downward swing emotions with the knife towards that direction of the sergeant and the Security Guard. As the first 2 uniform backup officers approached the sergeant and mister yang. The sergeant quickly step back, drew his firearm and the o i s occurred. Well, police say that medics arrived about 3 minutes after the shooting yang was taken to a local hospital but was pronounced dead. Heres a photo of the knife. He was holding. And then when police looked inside his car, they found that he had a crossbow with arrows. Fact, police are calling this a highly unusual event that could have easily involved many more casualties. When asked why there appeared to be no attempts to deescalate the situation. Chief bill scott said that officers are actually trained to prioritize stopping a threat when theyre confronted with an active attacker. Thousands of homes and buildings were destroyed. It all started when a small brush fire broke out near the caldecott tunnel. Oakland firefighters fought those flames and by that evening, crews believe they had it under control. But at that time the region was in the middle of the 5th year of a drought and strong winds ended up fanning those remaining embers overnight, causing those flames to explode back to life. And they began racing across the Oakland Hills to this day. The cause of that fire still unknown. Well, Hercules Police have arrested a man accused of driving a stolen vehicle and then they found thousands of dollars worth of a hidden a sock. So take a look. Police say they recovered 15,000 inside that sock. They also say they found fraudulent documents inside a black bag on wednesday morning, police pulled over a toyota 4 runner on interstate 80 that was reported stolen out of san bruno. Law enforcement says the vehicle was rented using fraudulent documents. They arrested the driver on suspicion of vehicle theft and using fraudulent information and fraudulent credit cards, identity theft. They also charged with being in possession of a stolen vehicle. Well, a man accused of Trafficking Cocaine and Alameda County is now facing 24 years in prison. Alfredo reza cuza possessing 10 or more kilos of cocaine for sale and also child abuse for storing contraband in a room in close proximity to children. Alameda County District Attorneys Office says a search warrant at his home found cocaine, 2 loaded firearms and over 100,000 in cash, his next court date is set for next thursday. A federal judge overturn californias 30 year ban on assault weapons. The judge ruled that the states attempts to prohibit sales semiautomatic guns violate the constitutional right to bear arms. Police say theyve arrested at a home depot employee for allegedly taking cash from the business for over a year. Police say they were called by the home depot who accused the suspect of taking more than a Million Dollars in cash from the business since august of 2022. The picture by Sanibel Police shows some cash and designer merchandise that was found at that home when they searched it. They also say that she had 8,000 in her possession when she was arrested. The suspect was booked into the Marion County jail on embezzlement charges. Ellis city of Pleasant Hill. They are the latest municipality to actually remove remote Public Comment and meetings after being the target of hate speech on tuesday. Time now is 9. 30. Our check this out about a dozen cars destroyed by fires and Officials Say they were all started right near homeless encampment in San Franciscos Mission District. One of those cars actually belong to a francisco business owner. Well, first and ford got a chance to talk to several cars torched by an encampment fire in the mission this is just one of 3 fires to break out along or near stevenson street in less than a week. I think its a big deal because theyre getting worse. Business owner deseret barrera says shes been complaining to the city about encampment fires for months. Her fears were realized when her black bmw was destroyed last friday, adding insult to injury, people were seen rummaging through barreras badly burned car, especially in scary. The individuals who are causing the fires are still outside. They havent been asked to leave. And theyre still there. With all of their equipment on monday. Just days after barreras car was charred, another fire torched several more vehicles on the same block. Its not normal to not feel safe when you start addressing the smaller problems that are starting to escalate into bigger columns and its like were not being seen at all at the lower level. Barrera says these fires could have been prevented if city leaders would listen and take action. She believes Business Owners and unhoused people are being failed. Last week, 2 people were arrested for smashandgrab in San Francisco in just 2 days before that. Police say one of them was actually arrested for stealing in the east bay. Police say 23 yearold johnny woods was arrested last week for smash and grab the dior store in union square just a couple days before that, which is one of 11 people arrested. Retail theft staying at the Pleasant Hill shopping center. Fresno police chief says something needs to change. We have invested in prevention. We have invested enforcement, more needs to be invested in the consequences for stealing. Before voters approved prop 47 back in 2014 repeat offenders, including people who commit petty theft or shoplifting could actually face felonies and some serious time behind bars. Well, 3 people, including a teenager, were arrested in connection with that fathers day shooting on San Franciscos waterfront. Police say several people are injured, including a 10 yearold girl officers believe the gunfire was actually between a black suv and a white car during a mile and a half long stretch along the embarcadero included some side streets as well. But all those victims were innocent bystanders. The 3 newly arrested suspects are accused of being inside the white car. 2 people inside the black suv were arrested following the incident. One was released pending further investigation and the other has not been charged police also say that theyve seized 13 handguns for assault rifles and a large amount of ammunition during this investigation. Theyve yet, though, to determine a motive behind the shooting. Well, here you see hundreds of people shutting down the San Francisco Federal Building last night by chaining themselves to the doors of representative Nancy Pelosis office. Protesters rally calling for an end, an immediate ceasefire in gaza after the u. S. Military to stop helping israel in its fight against hamas. Take a look. You can see the building was splattered with red paint by protesters, Homeland Security and police are both at that Federal Building. No word yet on any arrests. In the east bay, san police have arrested a man in connection with 2 deadly shootings inside of a gym parking lot. So the shootings happened back on september 14th in the 24th. They were both 24 hour fitness there at the bayfair center. Police say each case a man was shot and killed and investigators say it was only after looking through Surveillance Video of both shootings that they noticed something similar. A man wearing the same black work boots and red backpack at the scenes of both of those shootings. Police then later spotted that very man wearing the same boots and backpack walking in the area near the gym. So they stopped him and upon searching and found he had a gun and then they say they found more evidence at his home connecting him to the crimes. Happening today, there is going to be a rally at the southeast corner of the lindsey street and 22nd street in San Francisco after an lgbtq mural was defaced. The artist won. Manuel carmona says that october 6 and art project depicting Juanita Moore was defaced during that rally. The artists will restore the original artwork. Rally starts at 11 00am and runs to 02 00pm. A little screens are of postal workers being robbed in San Francisco. Usps sent us this video. They say it happened on tuesday evening in the Mission District on 26 and san jose avenue. The mail carrier was not seriously hurt and police are now still looking for that suspect. Officials say just in the last 2 weeks, there have been a total of 5 mil carrier robberies in the city. 2 people in downtown walnut creek. They were at gunpoint after leaving dinners. All happened wednesday night. Right near botelho. Drivein locust street in broadway plaza. Police say 2 men approached the victims, one of them pointed a gun and demanded that they give up their belongings. They got into a nearby white sedan and took off. No injuries were reported. But anyone information you are urged to contact walnut creek police. In the south bay, 2 women were arrested for organized retail theft and grand theft. This was out of the great mall in milpitas. Police say Patrol Officer stopped the car that the women were in and found nearly 1900 worth of merchandise that they believe was stolen from a nearby marshals. They also apparently had a tool that was used to remove security sensors. This happened on wednesday. Police say one of them had a felony warrant for grand theft. The stolen merchandise was returned to marshalls. Well, Pleasanton Police have arrested 2 people that they accused of having an unregistered gun, fake ids and were driving a stolen car. There was a brief chase on 6. 80, before officers were able to pull them over. And thats when they found a loaded handgun beneath the drivers seat. The 2 occupants of the car were arrested and booked into the santa rita jail. The car was returned to its Rightful Owner in good condition. Well, new this morning, a group of San Francisco Business Leaders have launched a new campaign to help change the image of the city. The head of pick Global Economic summit next month. The campaign is called. It all starts here. And the Business Leaders say they plan to blanket the city with billboards and ads featuring things that make San Francisco great. The groups cochair is larry baer, the ceo good giants. And he says the conditions here in the city arent as bad as the national headlines. Make it out to be. He says the group will try and change the narrative. Tens of thousands of people, including President Biden and other heads of state are set to come for that economic summit starting on november. 11th. Well, if you have not paid your taxes just yet, youre in luck. Because this week, the deadline to submit federal and state taxes was actually pushed back yet again to mid november. Couple correspondent on wallace has more on what the tax deadline extension could actually mean for californias budget. As the state continues to grapple with a million doubt billion dollar deficit. For the second time this year, the irs and state Franchise Tax board have delayed the tax filing deadline for millions of californians. The new deadline date november 16. Earlier this year as a result of deadly winter storms. The tax deadline was pushed back from the usual april 15th date to midoctober. Now that its been pushed back by another month. Government Officials Say that means the state will not know whats to tax revenues until at least midnovember. The California Department of finance expects 42 billion dollars to come in by midnovember. But given the uncertainty of the markets, deputy director, a few palmer says theres always a possibility less money than that actually comes in a big question. Mark. A big if. Still is out there and were in the middle of that could have major ramifications for the states 30 plus billion dollar budget deficit. But palmer says the good news for now as of the most uptodate data from july and august, the states revenues were coming in as projected 22 billion dollars coming in as expected during those months.
