San francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has made retail theft, one of her priorities. So today the air quality has been suffering in. You can see into the south bay. Thats where were seeing some poor air quality right now. You see some of the centers there also near san jose and fremont and continuing up inside the bay hazy, air quality all much of the central bay and the little approved in the north bay. Now, heres the good news. Things are going to change overnight tonight. Were going to see an improvement with more of an onshore breeze. We get into tomorrow is not going to be perfect. But definitely transitioning toward a much better air quality and some much more comfortable temperatures out the door right now to 74 degrees pacific over checkout half moon bay. They have dropped to 59 giving it that cool air is on the way. Still some 80s and 90 showing up in many spots inland away from the coastline, even inside the bay tonight. If youre stepping out the door, what a beautiful night to get out there and go for a little walk, mostly clear. And on the warm side, you can expect that patchy fog, though, to redevelop and begin to move in at least along the coastline around 8 oclock tonight. The butler has announced she will not run for the full term in office. Yeah, she was appointed less than 3 weeks ago by Governor Newsom to fill the late dianes dianne feinstein. Senate seat. In a statement, butler says in part, knowing you can win a campaign doesnt always mean you should run a campaign. It may not be the decision people expected, but its the right one for me and quote. I mean, theres more hat in the ring now to just in the last like 10 days, we have 2 more candidates who have stepped up to say, okay, were running for the senate seat. What does this mean for those other candidates . I know we have a kind of leading this race. But what does this mean for those other candidates . Well, absolutely no. I think in a nutshell, this what it means. This no longer a distraction that la fonda butler. Yes, you could even say that she was a distraction from any of these candidates because once again, a fight kind turn it back to me for internal us like me were reporting on this story. Lets say of adam schiff giving a speech somewhere or yes, even of steve garvey, the republican entering the race for katie porter traveling the state. Well, even in all those stories, that was the question that lingered will of butler entered the race and now we know noel that shes for sure saying she will not enter the race here. And so therefore, you can say that this is no longer distraction over the 2024 race for the u. S. Senate. This will allow now the candidates to focus not only on themselves, but we could start seeing noel them turning on each other. We could start seeing its politics after all them and going after each other without now, this distraction of whether la fonda butler will enter this we could start seeing a lot more of that in this race for the u. S. Senate grandson o well. I know the governor vowed to appoint a black woman to that seat. If given the opportunity he did. A lot of us think barb really wished it when and she released a statement today, you know, commending butler for the service shes doing now and looking forward to working with her. It seems though, a time like its a 2 horse race at this point. Do you think barbara lee from the bay area has a chance to make up some ground now, especially with butler out of it. Thats a great question. I do think barbara lee has the opportunity make up some ground. But lets remember now now that steve garvey is in the race on the republican side, its going to be a lot harder for these 3 major democrats to attract less to say in the pendant or or even the Republican Voters in this race. Steve garvey now has that opportunity. Remember, were time at the march primary. Here are the top 2. So whereas before steve garvey entered this race and you had katie porter, barbara lee and adam trying perhaps be a little bit more moderate so they could get in those Republican Voters. Remember, Republican Voters make up about 22 of the registered voters in the state will now we have steve garvey doing that. And with those polls coming out showing that steve garvey has maybe between 10 to 20 of the vote thats neck and neck right there with barb early. So barbara lee now has to really narrow perhaps not just her own base, but on those independent voters might have narrow to compete with steve garvey just come. And number 2 there, of course, were also talking about, as you mentioned, katie porter, adam schiff. They are doing pretty in this race weve seen and major, the many of the major polls, including our very next our poll showing them at the top 2. But again, with with with steve g is of la butler now saying she will not be in this race. Well, that could certainly change some things here going forward. That cooler air pattern. That is going to be a nice place to over the next couple of days. Tomorrow. Yep, youll see that fog returning. And then as we get the weekend, weve got this weak weather system that slides through bringing with it at least a chance of a few scattered showers out there overnight on saturday night into sunday as well behind that and a cooler just kind of hangs around. So a whole different weather pattern for tomorrow. Maybe some more northerly winds, some breezy winds as we head toward the middle of the week.
