Going to get Team Coverage going for you right now. Kron fours meteorologist kyla grogan with just how hot it is out there right now. Hey there. Yes, we are under that heat advisory right now goes until 11 00pm. And all the areas that you see here, which is a good portion of the bay area for good reason because these temperatures have been soaring. So take a look at where were at. 94, as you can see in napa and santa rosa were 95 in saratoga. 84 in San Francisco about 70 degrees out at Half Moon Bay. Well above average to say the least. Now break any records. This is what we would have to hit to do that. San francisco, 90 degrees. Oakland, 91, both of those records were set back in 2022. So just last year, santa rosa, 95 degrees. That records from 1921. Napa, you can see 94 same story for redwood city of Half Moon Bay would have to get to 82 degrees, which was set as a possibility today. But it looks like were getting a little onshore flow there. And that is starting to keep them a little bit cooler than they were supposed to be live. Look outside. Those shows you also a little bit of haze in the sky. We are under a spare the air alert. And in addition to that, we have coastal dangers. A high advisory right now in place until 7 oclock tonight at the coast because these waves have been rolling up. Now, we saw some yesterday. There are about 7 feet. But right now you can see up register point raise wave height is about 12 feet. You can see just a near San Francisco 12 feet there. Take a look as we get a little farther offshore, you can see the swell thats coming in 16 foot. High waves right now. So very dangerous cerf that is out there. Certainly the possibility of sneaker waves. That means they can knock you off your feet. You may not be ready for it. Today the u. S. House remains without a speaker after ohios jim jordan failed twice to secure enough votes. Republicans are feuding over how to move forward with some calling for jordan to step aside. Several republicans say their lives and their family members have been threatened for not supporting jim jordan for speaker of the house. There was a proposal to give speaker pro temp patrick mchenry, the full authority to help pass legislation. But jordan now says that plan is out. He plans to run again. And tonight President Joe Biden will be delivering a prime time Foreign Policy speech to the country on the war in israel and how the u. S. Plans to help our washington correspondent Reshad Hudson has the latest. In his second Oval Office Address, President Biden plans to make the case for backing ukraine and israel in their time of war. But he has to tell our people tonight we are resolute. They were pushing us iran. The president returned Late Wednesday from his visit to israel, Michigan Republican tim walberg and maryland democrat david trone. Were he made the trip. The idea of having an american president being in israel supporting israel. I think its good. The president is so compassionate later this week, President Biden will send congress a request to provide more money for both israel and ukraine. And we need to extend that out farther out just 2 short term funding. Bandaid and a bandaid Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer says the Senate Must Act fast to approve this request. The world needs to see a u. S. Senate united in action. Senate republican leader Mitch Mcconnell says he supports linking israel and ukraine funding together. Hes calling on his Senate Colleagues to do the same the coming days. It will be the senate for responsible take strong and decisive action. The total aid package is expected to be around 100 billion dollars. But the white house faces a steep challenge in securing the money. Some House Republicans are opposed to linking israel and ukraine aid together. And the house is unable to conduct business without a speaker reporting in washington, Reshad Hudson. So joining us now to learn what we can expect from tonights Oval Office Address is sonoma state Political Science professor david mcewan, thank you for joining us here. Thank you very much for having so what are you expecting to hear from the president tonight . Thats going to lay out the case of what is happening in the world beyond israel to include ukraine. Theres a Senate Package thats moving forward. That links to israel. That 100 billion dollars talked about is the likely number for the proposal combined with aid to Ukraine Combined with a to taiwan as well as puerto security thats being worked on in the president talk about anything related to whats happening in the house. The white house is really enjoying, if you will. The split screen the president israel, even though the air a with nations meeting with jordan and egypt didnt happen and palestinian authority. But one thing to watch for is the degree. That was hugely important in the wake of 9. 11, president also draw parallels there as well. This is a key moment for the Biden Administration for the biden presidency because i have to lay out a worldview, a sobering assessment, if you will, of what looks like israels 9. 11 and what that moment looks like moving forward before the israelis go into gaza. How do you think that this speech will differ from the speech he just gave when he was in israel yesterday . Yeah, i mean, the when they went to israel, they wanted no daylight between the United States position and the israelis a its little bit different circumstance here in the United States when it comes back and talks to a domestic audience, any bill thats going to fund. Prayed for that matter is going to have to go through the house. Its going to have to have some house vote at some point. So that domestic situation with the speaker of the house is critically important. So the president wants to lead and talk about building a coalition. So the degree to which you mentioned mentions potential partners like the jordanians, like the egyptians and the saudis well talk about the iranians and their funding of hamas. Does he draw any important parallels between that and a if you will, opening up potential Northern Front for avoiding a wider war. And also, does he mention anything about american troops and their involvement and what that looks like that is also for important for domestic. Where does the president kind of lay out a vision moving forward . These all the things to watch for what is a critical speech. Hes also known as being the console learned chief. So there could be some things that he talks about as far trying to ease the tensions between, you know, israelis and jewish people and palestinians in the air country and people here is a lot. Just for that matter. Yeah. How much more think hes going to try to talk about budget because going to be asking for more money also for israel, but also for ukraine and supporting that war thats going on as well. Yeah, i think just seeing thats a really important point. If you look at what United States is given in total military aid to ukraine, its been 46 billion dollars in military aid spent almost double that number. But also nonmilitary aid. Thats a lot of money. And there are a lot of folks and in in the on the republican side that are concerned about open and a check, but not to the israelis, but to the ukrainians. And so as you look at all of this money and what it looks like moving the president is going to deal with that because we not. Baucus is go on other domestic politics situation. Hugely important israel for whats going on and also hugely important for the United States and whats moving they want to show confidence. They want to show a seriousness and a sobriety about what to do here for a very essential and very important situation. What the administration is privately worried about and the degree to which they talked. Theyre worried that is if the israelis go into gaza and they break caused that got like we had to do in after 9. 11. And that could be a protracted long com conflict that could spill over and of unintended consequences. So the degree to which the president kind of lays that dividing line and talks about the humanitarian situation is. Not believing what the United States in terms of interest related to the palestinians and the president has hold all of that together. So far, theyve been very in that in terms of what were dealing with the israelis. But can they maintain that momentum . And at the same time, build a humanitarian for what shaping up to be a really horrible situation within gaza itself. And with the last 30 seconds that we have here to think the president s going address at all the issue thats going on with trying to find a new speaker. That will be an interesting component youre going to need united government. Youre going to need to get states, that has all elements and that degree to he doesnt want to delve into that mass. He wants to elevate himself above that. Terms of having a speaker of the house, that will be an important thing to watch and listen he should mention it lightly, but maybe only a line or just like a little sound bite and theres thing can you got . All right. You. And thank you so much for joining us. I know youve been watching tonight and maybe we could chat about it again really soon. Thank you very much. A sting. And you can watch that prime time address from the president from the oval office with us tonight right here on kron 4. We will be airing it live as it starts at 5 oclock. You can watch with us. Also on kron 4 dot com. And its hot out there with this live picture here that shows a sort of the tail end of Golden Gate Park looking out towards ocean beach and even from this shot, which is so far away, you can see those big waves that are building. Kyle is here now so we can chat about what were going to cool down. And what are you concerned about the most here . Yeah, a couple things today, right . Weve got the waves out there that high advisory. Weve got the heat happening in some places are really roasting right now. And then weve got this air quality. We have an issue with that today. Were under a spare the air alert and this is the forecast for the day today obviously can see east bay and south bay possible going to slip into that unhealthy category. So this is where we are right now and obviously green is what you want to see. But were seeing an awful lot of yellow, meaning. That our air quality is moderate. Now all the way from parts of the north bay, right on down to the south bay, right across to the east bay in other insulin as well. So that means that if you have that kind of sensitivity, you just want to make sure youre staying inside and keep yourself away from some of probably a little hazy air. If youre out there now, its not easy. If you head out to Half Moon Bay. This is a really nice sunshine out there. And weve gotten some warmth out there as well. Temperatures right now, Half Moon Bay, 70 degrees, not bad considering we were thinking they could really get up into that upper 80s mid upper 80s category. But it seems like theyre getting a little that onshore flow, that kind of moisture cooler air coming in off the ocean, which will see kind of happen as we get across to our forecast tonight for everyone. But right now, San Francisco at eightyfour degrees. 85 in oakland, 90s from san jose to livermore concord and santa rosa about 94. So plenty of warmth out there. And that is why were still under this heat advisory until 11 oclock tonight. Now, notice its not just the bay area, but you see good portion of Central California and Southern California, also dealing with the heat and that heat advisory kicks in when we see those above average temperatures, the last about 3 hours or more. And obviously were getting it lasting a lot more than 3 hours today. So if you are in san jose, one of the spots that is currently sitting in the low 90s, i got to give you the extra large in your iced coffee forecast today because you deserve it. Just make sure youre staying nice and cool everybody. So High Pressure is in control but notice low pressure to the northwest of us. Low pressure to the south of us. That low pressure that is right off the coast of Southern California driving a little bit of what will be southerly flow onshore flow. That is going to change the weather pattern rather quickly as we get into the evening, well see those temperatures start to ramp down and return of the marine layer right now. You can see that southerly flow showing up in Half Moon Bay. And i think thats whats keeping them a little cool. Still the offshore flow coming from the east bay. When you look at spots like concord fairfield, thats that dry, warm air that is kind of combating the onshore flow that wants to roll back in by tomorrow. Well start to cool down a bit, but then will really get that marine layer back and the clouds on saturday saturday night. Were looking out for a few showers. Ill talk about that when come back in just a bit. Back to you. Thank you. Kyla Santa Clara County libraries are open as cooling centers. You can check out the full list on the countys website. But that what locals are talking about are the waves. I want to step out of the way and give you a live look here. Check out the ways weve watching this about new when we arrived. And it has been just wave after wave. So its definitely incredible. Just seeing how you know how far the water has been moving. And even if you see these people under umbrellas and their beach chairs, they actually told me they have to move back at least 4 times because just how far the water has been reaching the beach on to the shore. But i have been talking to people. They are staying cautious. They are not going into the water. I talked to a season surfer. He came out here to check out the ways but decided its more of day to walk on the beach. But i also talked to other people were hoping to get in the water today. I actually texted my friend the waves are really huge. We might not be able word today over. See how it goes over. Comes going. Otherwise. Its just i love being here and having the day off. And back here live, people have just dipping their feet in the water not getting into far. Overall, people are heeding the warnings you can just see that beautiful, has crashed. So, yeah, just been a Beautiful Day out here in Stinson Beach and that woman that we just heard from. She actually planned ahead. Remember to double check your cars before you head into a store or a home. Dont leave your pets or kids inside a car, especially with the windows up. Be sure pace yourself when youre out and about. And if you dont have to use the oven at home, try not to dont have to ask me twice about that. One. And also dont wait into your thursday to drink something and always drink water throughout days like these and try to wear loose clothing. Lets go now with a quick live look outside just see another pretty picture outside of whats happening from our camera on top of mount tam. It is a little hazy out there as well. And kyle is going to talk about youre enjoying this kind of weather. I know that. Well, i i do like the heat. I love the spare the air alert. Thats bringing us the haze. You know, some people, you know, they dont like the heat because its the dawn of air conditioning. Its just tough. Also those waves. Lets talk about that. You know, we take a look at the shot often and we dont see the waves like that out at ocean beach, though. We do have that northwest swell that is driving some very dangerous conditions out at the ocean. And we are under that high advisory until 07 00pm tonight. And frankly, i think its going to stay like this until tomorrow. So i think you want to be careful until at least the midday time tomorrow. If youre going out at the coast, you know, best to avoid it, but certainly stay away from water. Do not turn your back on the ocean. So we have this northwest swell coming in and some of these wave so far that im seeing in some of the buoys out here, 12 feet. Weve got here. But as we start to kind of move out a little bit farther into the ocean, you can see 16 foot high waves and the sneaker waves can come up very, very quickly. So lets take a look at current temperatures right now. 83 degrees in San Francisco. 85 in oakland. The heat is on in spots like san jose in livermore in the 90s, 90 degrees in concord. 94 in santa rosa and 70 degrees out at half. Moon bay. So it is warm, but frankly, i was expecting it to be a little bit warmer. We are starting to get a little more onshore flow, starting to push things in a little bit. Bring that moist air in notice. What happens as we look at future cast here, you start to see that marine layer rolling up the coast and then we get to friday night. Well see those clouds push in because now were going to have the next low pressure system getting its act together coming in there. Saturday take you into saturday night. You see what im talking about to get a few showers saturday night into sunday. So a little rain that will certainly cool us down. And were talking about a 10th of an inch of rain. This is the european model. Kind of show you whats expected again, the timing on that saturday night into the first part of sunday. It is a welcome rain will take it and it will cool us down and bring us a little bit of moisture as well. So tomorrow staying dry, the cooling begins. And then as we get to saturday, the clouds roll and it will be saturday night. That will start to see those temperatures are going to be dropping on saturday during the day. But at night were going to see that shower roll in as it comes in from the northwest. Ill be back in a little bit. Well talk about our extended forecast. Back to you. Thank you so much. The changes are effective. As of today. Coming up, there is an increase in demand for nurses as the Health Crisis continues. In the United States, why nurses are looking for some other options. Plus, if youre looking for a new careers and you love being outside the California Forest Service might have a place for you. And im keeping an eye on the weather. Obviously we have some heat out there and also some danger out of coastal all right. Its a warm one out there. Were taking a live look outside here at San Francisco international airport. Im curious just how hot different parts of the bay area got today. This is sort of our thinking, hoping maybe possibly last october of last year before really need to yeah, were kind of rolling in that direction, at least. And we look at the next 7 days. We dont have anything extreme coming our way. Lots of blue skies out there. A little bit of haze. We are under that spare the air alert right now. Some of our air quality is slipping. Obviously, temperatures are warm very well above average 94 here in morgan hill. 91 in san jose. We are in the 70s out of Half Moon Bay pacifica now at 77 again watching that number go down at the coast. Im starting to a little onshore flow there. 82 in San Francisco, we are at 85 in oakland, 92 in petaluma and notice point rays. Also starting to cool down. Thats an indication that that cooler moisture ocean air is starting to make the move in. Thats whats going to change our temperatures. And frankly, even though were warmer than we were 24 hours ago, most spots were not as warm as this little heat snap had anticipated us getting. We are a little bit cooler than we were expecting. So we do still have heat advisory until 11 oclock tonight and all the areas, the sea there that is courtesy of the High Pressure. But low pressure here starting to try and drag some of that marine layer back towards us. If we zoom in, you can kind of see where its happening in parts of central and Southern California. We are still getting enough offshore flow to kind of keep that away from us. But the changeover is under way. And thats whats going to start to cool us down as we get evening right now, you can see that southerly flow starting to show that change, right right there. But if you go over to concord, very much an offshore flow that drier, warmer air coming our way. The kind of battling it out right now as we look at future when show you we get into tonight. Now notice on shore flow starts to win the day and even as we get into the overnight now were going to get everybody going. So thats were going to start to really cool down tomorrow. Its interesting to watch this with weather because with events like this, its all about the subtleties about that High Pressure allowing some of that offshore wind to really drive the temperatures up and we get hot weather at the coast and we get in San Francisco. Thats what has to happen. That offshore wind. We havent had a lot of that this season. So a cool down a bit tomorrow. Were going to really cool it down towards the weekend. Talk about some the showers that are coming our way saturday night into sunday looks about a 10th of an inch of rain. Well start to warm back up as we get into monday. But notice nothing extreme here staying a little bit below average or seasonal as we start to roll through the latter half of our october getting raided a send it into the end of october, which is im not ready for that. Not yet. Thanks. Kylen. The usda Forest Service is accepting applications for permanent seasonal jobs between now and noveiber 22nd their hundreds of entry level posit ons available across the u. S. According to aaa, the average price of gallon of regular gas will cost you 5. 52. In the state of california. So our hope is by shining the light on this information we have able to have the problem that so we to get quickly. But opponents of the governors plan have long argued its not the oil industry who is to blame here, but rather other factors, including the states greater tax burden. Theyre calling for the governor to suspend the gas tax, which is currently at about 0. 58 per gallon. They say there needs to be a major policy change to try and incentivize workers back into the acute care settings, really, for the sake of patients newsnations Stephanie Haines breaks it all down. Medical strikes are turning signaling to providers and patients all over the country. The Health Care Industry is not okay. Its not a shortage. There is a staffing crisis that needs to be dealt with in this country. And projects more than 200,000 openings each year when taking retirements and resignations into account issue is the concern is that with all these changing times all the opportunities, alabamas witnesses got, he did have get pharmacy and care, which is actually a lot of shifting off an invasion patients with emphasis on that. And thats much less stressful in and furnaces to working in a memo sent out back in march, national nurses, united wrote. There is no nurse shortage. Instead, nurses are leaving for, quote, a more sustainable profession after repeatedly working under conditions that are unsafe. The union says more than 1 million registered nurses were not employed as our ends in 2022. That the number of students passing the nurse licensure exam is increasing yearoveryear and that most of the workforce is growing outside of hospitals and acute care settings. Theres a reason for that. When theres a true shortage, it means that there arent enough people going into the pipeline willing to do nursing. Or theyre not staying. Now, this is a people staying. Its true. But its why. And the nurses have been very honest about it for years now. We cant continue to do more with less. That was Stephanie Haines reporting for us. The American Hospital association putting out statements saying that they are committed to supporting the workforce and the Biden Administration is providing 100 Million Dollars towards efforts to grow the nursing industry. If you are a person that do snt have any way to cool down right now, its a little bit tough out there. Also just want to mention that air quality obviously is an issue right now.
