Speed Safety Cameras are coming to several bay area cities after Governor Newsom signed that bill into law. The cameras will take pictures of cars, license plates as they speed by the Pilot Program last 5 years in san jose, San Francisco and oakland. But some groups around the bay area have some mixed feelings about what these pilot speed cameras will mean for the neighborhoods. And as to privacy advocates, were always concerned when cities pickup sort of a new tranche of peoples personal information. The bill was scrapped and so carefully because of those privacy concerns. And its, you know, these cameras, they only take a picture if you are going more than 11 miles above the speed limit. Its only a photo of the license plate that is not in the polices. Adoption fees are being waived at the Contra Costa CountyAnimal Shelter as it continues to exceed capacity, too many animals as kron fours. Philippe djegal tells us healthy pets may actually have to be put down and some Animal Rights advocates believe that drastic step can be avoided. Pets available for adoption or foster homes are pictured on Contra Costa Animal Services website. And the list of cats and dogs coming into the shelter is outpacing the number of animals going out. No shelter is meant for longterm housing or care of animals. And we have. Over 100 dogs have been with us for 30 plus days. The county has been waiving adoption fees since the summer yet overcrowding remains a crisis. Animal Services Director beth ward says the shelter has space for 114 dogs and right now houses 178. She says there are more than 300 cats and care. 100 more preferred for our shelter. Weve actually increased our number of spain news by 6 . If you compare january first through today. So last year, still spay and neuter appointments are backed up for several months at public and private facilities throughout the county which are struggling to control the growing pet population. This has led to an average of about 20 pets a month being euthanized at the shelter. Word says 11 dogs are currently on the list.
