But even better this year, the golden gate, which is still nice and bright to you might be thinking, oh, weve got another sunny day ahead of us. Well, its going to be a little cloudier for this one. We have the storm system really just passing to our north. Its kind of get nudged upward. So theres going to be rainfall for the very Northern Tier of the state. Couple sprinkles north of the golden gate. The rest of u. S. Peninsula, east bay and south bay, not looking at really anything but the clouds from the system. Now temperatures are currently warming. Were back into the 60s for more and more. The bay after a chilly start. Hayward and san matteo at 67 while santa rosa and petaluma now at 57 degrees later on today, we will be into the 70s more and more, but not as many 80s as compared to yesterday. And im sure many others in the bay area they are stepping up their patrols because they are fully aware that a former leader of hamas, he declared this day a day of. Rising anger in support of palestinians for whats going on in israel and they could turn violent, which is why they are telling their Police Officers patrol the areas, especially synagogues in new york city. Theyve already sold their Police Officers show up in full uniform and get ready to deploy. I can tell you in the south bay synagogues getting protection even before today, actually, we were at a synagogue and people showed up to worship. But they, of course, are very fearful by whats going on in israel as the death toll continues to rise, there is no credible threat. We dont know if anybody will be harmed today, but Police Officers agencies across the country are not taking any chances. Weve got a chance to talk to a south bay, rabbi. A lot of them are very fearful. A lot of experts are telling the synagogues you can be the first line of defense. Make sure that your place is locked, you have security if you can possibly provide that, make sure that your security cameras are working and that its train to the outside just in case something happens and by the way, there have been threats before of the day of. Weve got the annular eclipse thats set to take place tomorrow morning. The peak watch time is between 9, 9, 30 tomorrow morning. Its only going to last for 3 to 5 minutes when its right there. Perfect with the moon directly in front of the sun. They call it the ring of fire because unlike a total Solar Eclipse that shuts out all the light. The annual irwin, the ring of fire allows just a little bit a ring of sunlight to pass past the moon to us because the moon is a little bit further away. So its a little bit smaller in our sky. And thats what were looking for. Just member to look safely. Take a listen. I mean, if youd like to see the next eclipse, you pretty protect your eyes. And this yeah, it as much as you do. Never look directly at both on the rest of the time. You dont want to look directly at the fun and this time as well. Because and a total eclipse at the moment of the bright disk of the sun is completely covered up and youre only risking the much democrats. But in an annular eclipse, the full brightness of the sun is available there. And that could really seriously damage right . Yeah. Well, the Lawrence Berkeley hall of science and the exploratorium San Francisco theme park adair. Theyre both going to be hosting watch parties and theyll offer you some safe ways to watch the eclipse as its happening as well. And i know john also has some tips if you can make to either one of those locations. But youve got some supplies at home. Theres a way you can watch it to john. I know lot of people have been like, ok, where do i get those eclipse viewing glasses like i a lot of people are just looking for some way to look at it and you might have everything you need home already. So what do you got here . Well, shoe tate. Tin foil, pencil, paper and scissors. Really . All you need now the process looks like this. So what youre going to do is get that shoe box out and your first going to cut 2 holes in the very front of this shoe box. Next. Youre going to get that piece of foil. Put some tape around the edges of it and then it here that foil to the left side of that box there where you just cut one of those holes next process. Just poke a little hole right in the middle of that tin foil. All you got to do to make it a small hole. And then at the back of the box, youre going to get that tape again and put that piece of paper at the back of the box. Then youre going to put the lid on top. This is where it gets a little tricky. Youre going to turn your back to the sun and look through the open hole. The light is going to be cast Little Pencil whole on the tin foil side of the box and youre going to be able to see the moon shadow passing right past that sunbeam. This is a nice way to get that effect without even looking directly at it. And youre going to see that cool effect there as the moon passes between the sun and the earth. If you want to get up for a best of you, at least towards the totality, which isnt going to fully be reached. But at least 90 per cent coverage of the moon get up to modot county. Its our little narrow sliver of northeastern california where youre going to be seeing the moon passing right directly through the site in the earths orbit. But if you want all the sunshine get out towards when talking about it, those easter deserts, youre not going to have as much cloud cover so you can have optimal viewing conditions. Of course, you can just stay here in the bay area where youre going to have 80 per cent coverage of the moon between the sun, is pretty good enough if you dont take those massive drives to get to 90 per cent coverage. Stormtracker is unfortunately showing a lot of cloud cover, especially for those of you that might be heading up towards medford, oregon. I know thats been a popular location for people trying to get to go to the eclipse, going to be a little cloudy for it. Bay area, if you want to see the eclipse tomorrow morning, generally had further southward are further inland. Thats where skies are going to be clear today. Were already seeing those clear skies and this highpressure ridge thats in place is going to make sure that any sort of rain from that storm system i just showed you its going to stay up to our north. That means futurecast isnt going to show a lot going on for us here locally musher up in the north bay were a few overnight. Sprinkles could be expected. Marin, sonoma, napa and solano counties seeing a few brief showers head south of the golden gate in kharkiv as thats the east bay peninsula and south bay. Youre not looking at much except for the cloud cover from this system. As for rainfall totals, eureka, you can see a 3rd of an inch of rain, not much to be reported for the rest of us now, maybe the eclipse isnt your thing, but those fall colors are it is the optimal viewing conditions right now heading up into the sierra areas in red are at peak color right now. That includes areas like Donner Summit as well as truckee in South Lake Tahoe and nearing peak for spots like arnold, as well as nevada city in grass valley. And maybe you want to head up to apple. Hell grab some apple cider. Enjoy those colors. A great option. Also, as for our high temperatures today, its going to be a bit cooler than yesterday. Lot of 60s to 70s on the map. Todays daytime highs in spots like burlingame will reach the mid 70s while upper 70s down into the south bay, our hottest temp, todays los gatos, right 80 degrees. Your only spot on this map that will actually get to 80 degrees today. Oakland at 70 will some low 70s in vallejo, napa as well. Santa rosa, all at 72 degrees tomorrow conditions will start a little cut on the cloudy side. Again, the south bay and inland east bay will be your clearest for watching the eclipse arc there. Stay the weekend, though, will actually be sunday with highs in the 80s and lots of sunshine to finish out the weekend. James looks great. All right. Thank you very much, john. 10, 19 on the clock.
