Of their loved ones, something that i dont think most of us can truly understand really contemplate if youre not in their shoes. No one should have to endure what theyre going through. Right now, israel is conducting largescale air strikes on targets in gaza. The israeli Prime Minister says the people in gaza will be cut off from fuel food and power until hamas releases hostages were taken in the attack. More than 2 Million People live in gaza with no clear route to leave that territory. The biden administration, other nations in that region say that they are trying to negotiate safe passage for refugees. Tensions meanwhile, are flaring here in the bay area as the jewish and muslim communities watch the ongoing war in horror. Both the israeli consulate in San Francisco and the council on americanislamic relations in the bay area say their Community Members are reporting concerns for their safety without going into explicit detail. The consulate says jewish and israeli students are now reporting theyre being harassed on local college campuses. The executive director of the council on islamic on American Islamic relations says muslims are also experiencing high anxiety. And there is a level of fear. People report that on the checking things about bullying at school with us mosques as we go into the weekend are preparing for friday congregational prayers and some of them are reaching out local Police Departments asking for extra patrols. Statewide officials are feeling that tension as well. Californias Homeland Security adviser says they are actively monitoring potential threats here at home saying, quote, while we are aware of statements made about potential threats on friday, october 13th, i want to emphasize no specific and credible threat to california has been identified at this time are continuing to monitor that situation here at kron 4 as well. Other news tonight, educators and San Francisco are on the verge of going on strike members of the San FranciscoTeachers Union voted to authorize a strike if the School District doesnt meet their demands. Kron fours gayle ong joins us here live in the studio with the latest kale. The San Francisco unified School District is negotiating with 2 unions right now. The teachers and classified staff unions over 90 of those members voted in support of a strike. What we find. As of thursday, more than 3,000 members of the united educators of San Francisco union voted to authorize a teacher strike. It is very clear that the overwhelming number of our members. Are making their voice heard that the current offer on the table is not something we can settle for. The union is calling for smaller class sizes and higher pay. The district has agreed to some races but not enough to meet the unions demands negotiations between the 2 sides have been going on for the past 6 months. I think a big problem is under staffing. The schools right now might be gilley supports the teachers. She is a parent of a 4th and 7 greater any Parent Action Committee member at San FranciscoCommunity School art middle school does not have a math teacher. We just on board a social worker for the school like today, which is 57 days into the school year right now, our counselors acting as a math teacher. So we dont have a counselor join teachers and classified workers outside the San Francisco unified School District office. Thursday afternoon, we need employees that want to work here and the District Needs to probably pay every also negotiating a separate contract with the School District. Read president of seiu 10. 21 who represents the districts classified staff, which includes custodians and cafeteria workers. 99. 5 voted in support of a possible strike. We love our students. We dont want to hurt our students and their education. The pandemic get that enough. We want to create better brains for our future teachers that may come out of School District, our future construction workers, it workers, etcetera. A statement from the School District reads in part, quote, we are working diligently and in good faith to reach an agreement with our labor partners. The district also claims they will prioritize Financial Decisions that most directly benefit student experiences. And as for next steps on a possible strike, Union Members are required to vote a second time to allow a strike. More than 50 Affordable Housing bills were signed into law this week by governor gavin newsom. The list of bills pave the way for new housing construction, tenant protections under. Its not a shock to you that california is an expensive state to live in and the cost of housing in the bay area is one of the biggest stresses for those who live here. When Governor Newsom signed the extensive housing package of 56 bills. This week, it was made clear that theres a need to make housing more affordable in california. We have very, very good year for this year. And the legislature, senator scott wiener authored 3 of the bills, including the San Francisco replacement housing act. That rights a wrong for more than a halfcentury ago when around 5800 homes were destroyed along to black, japanese and filipino families will allow San Francisco to finance the nearly 6,000 replacement homes. But San Francisco is required to provide make the communities that were harmed by redevelopment. The senator also wrote the Affordable Housing on faith lands act that allows churches, faith institutions and nonprofit colleges. To build Affordable Housing on their land without going through an extensive rezoning application process estimated that may open up as much as 170,000 acres of land statewide shots below market rate housing. The senators 3rd Affordable Housing bill extends and strengthens existing law that was set to expire in 2 years. Requiring cities to grant permits quickly for new Affordable Housing projects. Even housing is a nonprofit Affordable Housing developer in california, president and ceo. When demand illini says time is money with Interest Rates going up more and more every year. The fact that the governor signed so many bills that will help expedite the approvals process that actually helps us bring costs down. It also helps increase supply. Governor newsom has announced all the Affordable Housing related bills but still has a lot more bills to go through on other topics. Thats where they found they found the front door demolish. It was hit by a car as kron fours terisa stasio reports. Police did arrest some suspects but theyre still searching for several others. This shattered role of glass in the back of this pickup truck is all that is left to the front door of the do your store and post and grand avenue in San Francisco. San Francisco Police say that it was around 6. 45 thursday morning. The high end fashion boutique was the site of an elaborate smashandgrab. This is video police still on the scene that was posted to the citizen app hours after the crime. Officers received information that possibly 3 vehicles pulled up to a retail establishment. One of those vehicles drove into that business. Multiple subjects jumped out of the vehicles, entered the store and stole store merchandise. Sergeant robert wu aca says one car loaded with stolen goods was discovered a short time later on the bay bridge sisters who were responding to the scene. For the incident spotted one of the vehicles that matched the description. The officers observed that vehicle. On an on ramp onto the eastbound direction of the bay bridge as officers follow those suspects and were able to stop the teen and subsequently arrest 2 of the suspects for this incident. Upon inspection of the vehicle crashed. The vehicle contained multiple items that we believe were stolen from the burglary grant avenue. Police are not saying exactly what was stolen. The company is known for its pricey purses was still in the thousands of dollars. As well as expensive for food and make a possibly 2 other vehicles that are outstanding, including those suspects that fled in those vehicles. San francisco did recently received a state grant to help bolster its force in crackdown on brazen retail thefts. These pictures show a recent bust in the mission, 17,000 worth a reportedly stolen merchandise was recovered. 3 people have been arrested in connection with the fencing operation.
