So james, we should know in a little less than 2 hours from now, whether or not the teachers will authorize a strike, even if they did. Make a living with the salary and the benefits of a teacher here in San Francisco. On the other hand, as a parent, you know, feel from a kid, you know, i i dont the last thing they need. Is to have their teachers be gone. That parents said that he should be ok, even if they do go on strike because his charles middle school. But he does feel for parents of Elementary School kids. We do know, james, that both sides will be backing back at the bargaining table on monday. So that means that more than likely, even if they vote yes. And a circle back, that probably wont happen until after monday. Just to give both sides. Another chance try to settle deal, if not. And if they go on strike jameson to be the First Teacher strike in San Francisco since 1970. All right. Well, thank you very much. Well see what the results are at noon today. Meanwhile, in the north bay students attended pies high school in mill valley walked out of class on wednesday to protest racism. Cal oes is providing services to help get you prepared in the event of another earthquake and crawfords Michael Thomas has been learning what we all need to know in San Francisco. Good morning, michael. Good morning, everyone. Thats right. California. Emergency services really wants to make sure youre prepared and you know how to react. This is a stimulator that im in. Take a look. It is ultimately going to shake around and it will be from 3 to 7 point, magnitude, really giving me that experience of what it would be like if we experience that earthquake. And i actually have a gentleman here with me. His name is he experienced the earthquake back in 1989 and hes going to actually do this experiment with us. Now that earthquake was said to be around 7 point. Oh, so were going to right or right now. Started and i want to get your reaction of if it feel the exact same way and talk a little bit about that. What we do that talk about what you experienced back then, how you felt when it started. It started at 05 00 04pm. It was the day of the giants and the world series. All of a sudden standing my doorway. The whole building started shaking. It tipped about 6 speak to the right. Could see the building across the way that was moving even faster than this feels like a 7 point. Without question. And this is kind of this is what we experienced. But i was on the 24th floor of the building. Wade was even more announced that it is here. Put on your sorry. Im going to put on your screen some details what you should do if you experience that earthquake. Now back then has those details on the screen. What did you do immediately when that earthquake hit in 1989 . Well, i happen to be standing in the doorway and they say whenever theres an earthquake stand in the doorway, number one or number 2, get underneath your desk. Doc, holding cover, of course, the thing, of course, in those days we didnt have cell phones. We didnt have iphones. The phones were out, the phones were gone. So you couldnt get and i couldnt get in touch with my wife, with my daughter with anybody probably unsettling. So would you say that this is similar to how it felt back then this experience . It is. Its a this is a very intense experience. If youve never experienced a 7 point, oh, earthquake, you really ought to try this because you will have a great deal of respect for an earthquake after youve gone through this experience or if you are on the 24th floor of Citicorp Center in 1989, thank you so much. And i know that he did mention very quickly. I just want to back then the center stand under the doorways. Ive got i hear very quickly. What are the new updated think that you should be doing when an earthquake happened . When what happens, the first thing we want you to do is drop cover and hold on until the shaking stops in. Really be aware of your surroundings. In case things continue to fall like you mentioned it and have cell phones so having a family pan and knowing where to go, if you are disconnected from your family and having that establish can really help kind of east. Some of the confusion want to emergency happens able. Thank you so much, ryan. Thank you, jim, for talking with james, i will send it back to you in the studio. Thats a very latest here in San Francisco. Were very grateful to get firsthand what it would feel like when that actual earthquake happened to what this simulation feels like. Yeah, that was a fascinating interview. Michael, thank you so much. In some good information we all need to keep in mind. As we prepare for the next earthquake to strike. All right. It is 10, 11. Were going take a break. But still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, it could take days, maybe even weeks to repair the damage out at the richmond, sandra fell bridge toll plaza. That was after a big rig crashed into it will take a closer look at those repairs. Plus, an electrician shortage could be putting the brakes on the expansion of electric vehicle. Adoption will explain why and usps just announcing their shipping deadlines for the holidays. Well tel you didnt choose cat allergies. You didnt choose your hairline. Hot flashes, the flu, or that thing when your knee just gives out for no reason. You didnt choose your bad back or this. Or. That. You didnt choose depression, melanoma, or lactose intolerance. But with Kaiser Permanente you can choose your doctor who works with other bestinclass specialists to care for all that is you. Back 10, 14 is the time. And the Postal Service is trying to get way ahead of the game. Apparently they just provided their shipping deadlines ahead of whats expected to be a pretty busy holiday ship ing season. So if you are using either usps ground or first class mail, the post office want you to know that you need to send your package by december 16th. I know were only in october and this were talking about like 2 months away this deadline, but they just want you to know. Thats the deadline. So thats one bit of good news there compared to ups and if youre already shipping your packages that youre way ahead of schedule. 10, 15 is the time in the east bay, the Lawrence Berkeley hall of science is inviting everybody to come out and watch the annual Solar Eclipse this weekend. There will be a special event featuring handson solar site activities. They have their telescopes out there live feed as well. The peak time for viewing is between 9, 9. 30, saturday morning and hopefully the sky conditions will cooperate. But in the meantime, dont forget that. Looking at the eclipse without the proper protective eyewear is going to be dangerous for you. Heres a little animation. That kind of illustrates what happens if you just stare directly at it . Yeah, you get it. You burn the back of your eyeball. So dont do that. Thats going to create a black mark. Thats going to be in your vision forever because ophthalmologist say they really cant do anything to fix that because its scar tissue on the back of your eye. So there are proper protective eyewear, pieces that are rated to block out the dangerous rays of the sun. Just your simple sun shades wont do it. Youre a bands are going to cut it. Its a special film thats blacked out pretty intensely to protect your eyes. So make sure you use the right eye wear to watch this thing, which should be pretty cool. Johns going to try and watching himself a job. I am. Im taking a little drive this weekend trying to get up to where were going to see most of that coverage of the eclipse. The reason were calling it an annular eclipse instead of a total eclipses because of the nature of this, the moon is a little bit further away from the orbit of the earth right now. So its not going to completely block out the sun, but have that ring of fire wrapped around it and that half of the annular eclipse doesnt go too far away from us. So thats where im going to try to head. But even if you are staying locally here in the bay area, youre still getting 80 coverage. As james was advising, you and that graphic definitely displayed for do not be looking at it with the sunglasses. Make sure that youve got those special eclipse glasses. Last you want is to damage your eyes. If you are looking to head to the north areas like medford, oregon, or even right here in california, youre going up to modot tourist areas like that. Youre going to get that full effect of the ring of fire. If you want to head to further out east, youre going to get some more sunshine out towards areas like when im a can of ad which are going to be also along that half of the annular eclipse. So if you dont mind taking the drive, those are the spots to get to. And you can just stay here in the bay area. But we are going to have a few clouds drifting through friday night into saturday morning, something were not really seeing right now for any of these areas. Weve got the High Pressure in place for now, but another cold front is going to be sliding right past the region as we make our way into tomorrow night and saturday morning and along with that, a slim chance of a few showers, especially for the north bay leading into tomorrow night. Tomorrow itself is going to be a cloudier day, but staying dry during daytime hours evening hours. Well start to see some showers drifting mostly north of the golden gate. So if you are in the north bay, get ready for some overnight rain friday night into saturday morning. The rest of us may be just a few sprinkles during that time. Todays daytime highs are going to be a little warmer and winds a little calmer that gets the coast up to the 60s to 70s while the rest of the bay area, either in the 70s to even some low 80s, which is going to be a warm feel compared to where weve been so far this week. San jose and campbell at 78 for your highs. Fremont hayward up through oakland in the mid 70s. Well, a few 80s to know in spots like walnut creek, pittsburgh, vacaville fairfield, and even santa rosa also reaching the low 80s today. Looking ahead tomorrow, temperatures will be a little cooler with a few more clouds overnight. Sprinkles for the north bay friday night into saturday morning and again early next week, jace. All right, john, thank you very much. Now there is a new hurdle apparently facing millions of americans as they switch to electric cars. Temperatures are starting to rise pretty quickly now with all that sunshine. Now we are seeing clear skies from the coastline to our inland areas as well as up the north coast. So as compared to yesterday, when were Still Holding up the showers near the oregon border today is pretty much try for the whole state. Its because this High Pressure ridge in place for now. But another cold front is on its way in as we move into tomorrow night. And this one will result in for some more Northern California showers and again for us in the bay area, right at the edge of it. So today we will see mostly sunny conditions tomorrow. A little cloudier for your friday and then tomorrow night, your best chance of showers will be for areas north of the Golden Gate Bridge south of that. And you could see a few sprinkles, but nothing really much. Now we will be looking at a nice, warm day today with 60s and 70s in the city. Some 60s and 70s of the coast and then elsewhere in the bay, a lot of 70s to even low 80s. This is going to make today the warmest of the workweek so far with redwood city in Mountain View as well as down to the south bay in the upper 70s and a few low 80s being reached for spots in our inland areas like in walnut creek, in antioch, of the east bay. In the meantime, open in san leandro. 75 degrees. Boy, what 77, low 80s and santa rosa and novato tomorrows temperatures just a little bit cooler. You can blame that on some of that cloud cover increasing on friday friday night into saturday morning. Mostly rain chances for the north bay saturday morning or annular eclipse. And it does look to be partly to mostly cloudy for it, but hopefully well get some good eclipse viewing. Now the rest of the weekend dries out late saturday into sunday, dry conditions and actually pretty warm inland. Our next chance of rain after friday night being another north bay chance on monday.
