We have new Surveillance Video showing us the 5 masked men running into the gucci store, stealing about 50,000 worth of purses and merchandise and then they run out this whole thing last about 20 seconds that happened last thursday. Police say that a responding officer was able to arrest one of the suspects who turned out to be a nevada man with an active warrant out for his arrest. Police are still searching for the 4 other suspects. There are a lot of Unanswered Questions today after mondays chaotic scene at the chinese consulate in San Francisco. Police say that a man smashed a car right through the front of the building and at least one of the officers who responded to the scene ultimately shot that man dead. Police are maintaining a presence outside of the building today. Its off of laguna street and geary boulevard and the visa office is closed there until further notice. Its still not clear what led up to this crash or what prompted the officer to open fire. In a statement, the chinese consulate general described the incident as, quote, a violent attack. San Francisco Police are expected to share more details about what happened at a town hall that will happen within the next 10 days. Also in San Francisco, 3 chinatown, apartments are now the subject of a lawsuit. The owners are accused of presenting a danger to the neighborhood and ignoring warnings from the city kron. 4 Charles Clifford joins us now live from San Francisco with more on the details of this lawsuit. Well, the city of San Francisco says theyve tried for years to bring these landlords into compliance to make sure that they take care of their properties and they havent done it. And so now theyre taking them to court. Patients on tuesday morning, San Francisco City Attorney david chiu announced that the city is suing the owners of 3 single room occupancy or sro hotels in chinatown. Theyre located at 14. 49 powell street 7. 90, vallejo street and 9. 12, jackson street. The citys alleging that the landlords of these buildings have failed to properly maintain their properties. They say that the tenants, most of whom are immigrants have had to deal with among other things, broken in rusted, plumbing, broken doors and locks exposed wiring a lack of emergency exits, broken windows, lead paint, insect and rodent infestations and the lack of smoke and Carbon Monoxide detectors. I got out those time speaking at a press conference, residents claim that theyve been dealing with these problems for years and they stop providing regular cleaning and has they know would where repairs we have a problem with voting and what broken windows. And that theres all the not and much more. Theyve profited off the suffering of their tenants. David chu says that the city has tried repeatedly to get the landlords to address the problems with little or no success. He says that filing a lawsuit was a last resort. Lawsuits are not the first option for us to move forward. What were always trying to do, a city departments, our clients are always trying to work with landlords to bring conditions up to code and thats what they attempted to do with these landlords for a number of years. Federal investigators are going after criminals to discourage more of them from continuing to target and assault mail carriers on tuesday, prosecutors announced the arrest of 10 people who either attacked or robbed a bay area. Postal worker, they say its a growing problem that comes with a heavy price for everyone involved for those who are caught and for the postal workers who now suffer from ptsd one man arrested in antioch, for example, now faces a maximum of 10 years in prison for allegedly stealing mail keys and another 25 years. Each for 2 armed robberies. Carriers are frightened to death. Some of them have gone out post traumatic stress. Some of them had a return to work to any copycats are wannabes. Thank you. The search for oaklands next police chief is now down to 7 candidates, including former chief leronne armstrong, a committee within the Oakland Police commission. Has identified 7 finalists among nearly 20 candidates and shared that list with mayor sheng thao and city officials. Oakland has not had a police chief since the mayor fired armstrong in january february over his handling of officer misconduct incidents strong appealed his firing and claimed that arbitrator cleared him of any wrongdoing and put out this statement saying in part, quote, i believe that i should be considered an appointed through the Police Commission process. As i have the experience, the desire and the public trust and confidence to lead the Oakland Police department and to address the surge in crime threatening our oakland community. Mayor thao has not responded to the Police Commissions recommendations for chief. Happening tonight, the Sunol Glen School board will meet to discuss repealing the ban on displaying a pride flag at school. Right now. The rules say thats no glenn can only fly the American Flag and the california state flag in front of the school. It went into effect on september. 12th was a 2 to one vote and now a resolution will be introduced at tonights meeting to try and repeal that ban. Unfortunately, the way that the resolution as written is very blanket. Theres no expectations set to hold people accountable in the future. Right . So if you go back to the resolution, it says all flags, right . So if you go out in front of the classrooms, there used to be you know, welcome back to school flags and things like that. All of those have been taken down. Its kind this blanket resolution that just the facts, the whole campus. That School Board Meeting takes place tonight at 5. 30, at tonights hayward city council. Meeting members will consider whether to adopt new regulations for street vendors. The goal is to provide a legal pathway for these vendors and would require them to obtain a permit from the city before they can sell anything on the sidewalk. Everyone else kind of a mix of sun and clouds. Its keeping us a little bit cool out there. So you can see temperatures in the 70 so well below average today. Yet again, its been our story for a while here. We also have a little wind, a little bit of a delta breeze happening and napa and fairfield up in the teens, not bad, but we should see a little more wind tomorrow. By the way, we get to the afternoon, its been all about these frontal passages rate. So low pressure system after low pressure system. And were seeing that again tonight and then well see it again as we head into friday and saturday. Thats when we see the next one roll in. And what this does is it keeps us a little cool. And now were learning more about a fiery crash at the richmond. Sandra fell bridge toll plaza that left one man dead. It happened around 10 last night in the westbound lanes. Both the truck and the toll plaza went up in flames. The driver, 41 yearold jasper, kara, from tracy was taken to a local hospital where he later died. Its not clear what caused the crash and the cleanup is still ongoing. We do have a live look right now at those efforts. Heres a live look here at the toll plaza. Can see some of the lanes are blocked off right now, but traffic is moving through. Theyre trying to clean up the diesel fuel that spilled from that big rig. Drivers on the bay bridge had a tough time more than normal as they commuted into San Francisco today because a car burst into flames. This happened around 10, 30 this morning near the Treasure Island exit. And you could see that thick black smoke there and some of the flames there. No word on what caused the fire or if anyone was hurt in san jose. Caltrain officials are investigating after a person was struck and killed on the tracks. It happened just before 6. 30, this morning near skyway drive as the train was heading north, about 100 passengers were on board the train. None of them were hurt. The person who was killed has not yet been identified. And the first person in california to be convicted of murder in connection with fentanyl distribution was sentenced to 15 years in prison today. Daniel cobb unga was found guilty in july of causing the fentanyl deal. Death of a 15 yearold girl from roseville last year. Prosecutors say that he possessed and transport of fentanyl that was pressed into pills to look like a percocet. Hes they say that he provided the pills to the girl which ultimately killed her California Attorney general rob bonta at the courthouse in roseville for the sentencing. You can see all of the hurricane warnings are up along the coast, headed straight for part of ir so this is a very populated place, obviously resort town. It looks like its going to come ashore as a category 4. This could be absolutely devastating for them. This is going to happen in the next probably 6, maybe 7 hours that this will be happening. And were talking about devastating wind. Obviously rain flooding. And i think mudslides as well are going to be a big possibility because theres a lot of kind of higher terrain import of air. If youve been there, youve seen kind of the hills and the cliffs that go down. So this is the rain forecast. You can see some areas to the south of port of expecting 5 to 7 inches of rain coming in very quickly. The reason this is intensified, the water is so warm. 88 degrees. So unfortunately, i think this is going to be a terrible ride for port of iowa as we take a live look there. That is something that i think were going to be hearing about a lot tomorrow. Today the mayor of san jose announce new plan to support the Artificial Intelligence industry. The mayor talked about the challenges that san jose faces from homelessness to crime and Traffic Safety. And how ai can help. Find solutions. He believes ai is an important part of san joses future. In the city departments we have energy or municipal water or transportation and roadway maintenance where ai applications could be used to better detect problems and better deliver solutions.
