We are following breaking news out of San Francisco tonight where an armed suspect who had been barricaded inside a bank earlier this afternoon. Is now in custody. Police are also on the scene just a mile and a half away from there where a car crashed into the chinese consulate and a driver was shot. Sfpd now telling us this was an incident involving a police shooting. Good evening. Thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 6. Im ken wayne and im noelle bellow. Lets take a closer look at where these incidents are taking place are not far from one another. The chinese consulate is that gary boulevard and laguna street, the chase bank where that suspect was barricaded was just about a mile and a half away on fulton street near of between central. And the sonic avenue. We have Team Coverage tonight on both of these incidents. Kron 4 Sarah Stinson live outside of chase bank tonight in the city. Kron fours rob nesbitt outside of the chinese consulate with the very latest on what happened there. Well start with you, rob. Tell us whats going on. Canada. Well, im here on geary boulevard. The chinese consulate is behind me and theyre still Police Activity. Crime scene tape set off the street here at this intersection is blocked people cannot walk down the sidewalk. They cannot drive here. The San Francisco Fire Department did confirm that one person was injured at a shooting at this consulate. Early video that we saw at the scene showed Police Activity Fire Department says that one person did drive into the chinese consulate in the person who was injured in the shooting is the same person that was driving that vehicle. We dont know much information terms of what exactly happened here other than the person was injured, driving the vehicle in the shooting. But police are supposed to give us an update on told in just a few minutes at the 5 oclock hour, we were told that they would also give us an update, have a press conference. But far as i know, a few minutes, were supposed to get more information. Obviously, people in this area concerned as to what exactly happened. I talked to one gentleman who was here trying to find out more about his friend who was here to get a visa. The entrance, im told where this car drove into the building is the same entrance where people actually go in to get their visas and apply for visas. So he was here trying to check on his friend. The similar thing, a lot of activity, people Walking Around trying to figure out exactly what happened here. Kind of the well will be here, of course, live on scene to get an update from police to confirm more information reporting live in San Francisco. Im rob nesbitt. Kron 4 news. Rob, thank you for that. Another story in the city. Police just cleared the scene where an armed man had been barricaded. Inside chase bank. This happened on fulton street near the usf campus. Thats where we find kron 4 Sarah Stinson. She joins us live now with the very latest there. Sara. Yeah, this was a barricaded situation inside the chase bank. Behind me for hours. And they finally were able to get the man out. I mean, it was repeatedly them telling this man inside, drop the knives, come up with your arms up in the air and please end this peacefully in. Take a look and ended with a man being taken out of the bank around 5. 15, in a stretcher and they brought him into the ambulance, taking him to the hospital because they used a lot of tear gas. Not only did they use those flash booms, but they also used tear gas bullets as well. And there was just smoke wafting from from the bank here on fulton street, in between central and masonic and again, took hours for them to get him out. But they did successfully around 5. 15, and they kept repeating the same thing. They said that he was armed with a knife. We have been trying to get into contact with San Francisco police to get confirmation as to when this first started and were their hostages. A lot of Unanswered Questions at this hour. But we do know what we saw with our own eyes and that was the Police Announcing to him that hes under arrest and that he needs to put the knife down and come out peacefully. And theres a lot of people in the neighborhood. Curious, of course, what was going on because this whole entire block was closed off for hours. So we caught up with one woman. She tells us shes just glad it ended peacefully. Wouldnt come out left us. They try say, look, hands up, put the knife down, come the cables several chances he wouldnt. Respond to any of so they had to do what they had to to get him out of there to change tear gas pepper bullets. And yes, hes in a lot of pain. Hes screaming and it did seem like he wasnt a lot of pain. He was screamingagony as they brought him into the ambulance. I assume they brought him to the hospital for treatment for that tear gas. But again, we are waiting for confirmation on all of this from San Francisco police, as you just heard from rob. Theyve got another situation. Another scene at that about a mile and half from here. So theyve got their hands full. Well keep our eyes on the latest here for now. Im sara stinson reporting live in San Francisco. Back to you. Sarah, thank you. Continuing with our developing News Coverage of the middle east. The death toll is climbing there in that war between israel and the Palestinian Militant Group hamas. Tonight, weve learned that several americans are said to be among those killed since the conflict began on saturday. The death toll has now surpassed 1000 people. And President Biden says 11 of those dead are confirmed. To be americans. Heres a closer look at israel and where the conflict is happening. Moss rockets struck near tel aviv, which is the most populous city in that area, just northwest of the capital city of jerusalem. South of that is the gaza strip where israel has increased air strikes today, sealing it off from food fuel and other supplies as hamas militants have infiltrated that area. And just outside the gaza strip is where fighting is ongoing. Towns have been invaded by militants as israel works to evacuate. All of these areas from forestry says stasio. Joining us now from the newsroom with more on whats going on there to reach a cannon noel every hour. New details are streaming out of the region revealing an escalating fatal violent conflict. Israeli Officials Say that their air strikes are hitting moss. Hospitals and homes, hamas, militant leaders continue their air attacks as well while threatening they will execute civilian hostages. Every time there is an air strike, there is information coming out that 4 israeli captives were killed overnight, including several Palestinians Holding them. A Relief Organization says that they found the bodies of 260 people near the gaza strip who were attending a Music Festival during the initial attack. Israels main airport has been set up as a joint center for families to register missing relatives. People are leaving dna samples and photos. And in the last few hours, u. S. Officials say that they have no hard evidence of iran helping in the planning or execution of the attack. But there are reports that hamas officials have been meeting with that country as this all intensifies. I spoke with the hoover senior fellow and professor at stanford on the significance for americans as they take in these developments. One reason why this should be of concern to americans the rise prejudice and hostility and at a summit is general. But another reason is that. This is about. Geopolitics. This is not just about seemingly intractable israel, palestine question. This is about. On one of americas closest allies by iran, one of americas most vicious adversaries, iran that since 1979 has been defined by death to israel, tested death to america chants. A lot to unravel here. But bottom line, the attack this weekend has farreaching consequences far beyond the middle east. And the newsroom. Theresa back to you guys in the studio. Theresa, thank you. At the time of the attack, hundreds of people were attending an israeli Music Festival. Festival. Goers say they heard rockets and then gaza militants. Fired on them and took hostages. We are learning a berkeley native is reported missing in israel. Nacs state senator scott wiener said this young man, a berkeley native, served in the army trains to be a medic and was going to Music Festivals after completing his service. Its not clear if he was at that specific Music Festival where those attacks happened. Meantime, San Francisco businessman manny yaki top tall que. Te all of manatees in the mission is actually in israel right now visiting his family kron fours. Dan kerman talked with him today about whats happening now a war zone. It does kind of feel like no place fully protected from them because they sent so many of them on saturday. And, you know, i family all over israel. So i think everyones a little bit scared and every little bit nervous. Monday morning, many leftist family and headed north to tel aviv volunteers for gathering to collect inbox, home goods, food and belongings for soldiers and families impacted by the attack. And thats thats my nature. Thats who i thats what im about. So im here and i want to be useful. Even though far away from the bay area, man, he says he saw video of the weekend protests and counter protests in San Francisco. He says he hopes people will take extra time to really understand whats going on. I just feel like it creates such dangerous, false equivalency when innocent unarmed people are in their homes and theyre being dragged down, just killed, isnt it . You know, as many as possible versus what is happening, which is attempt to destroy a militant within that is hellbent on destroying this country. So i guess i would just my fellow san franciscans in liberia, folks to ask real not believe everything they see in the media and not except the narrative that its given to them but understand that just because theres violence on both sides, it doesnt mean that both sides are engaged in the same kind of activity.
