Let that cool air in while weve got it this afternoon is set to be the hottest of the forecast for a lot of spots and winds from the inland areas will continue today pushing offshore and allowing hot, dry inland air all the way out to the coastline. Well, for us, dan kerman spoke with many of them. Shortly after 8 wednesday morning, the hearse carrying california senator Dianne Feinstein arrived at San Francisco city hall. Her flagdraped casket was carried into city hall and positioned under the rotunda. The first to pay respects per family members and dignitaries among them, congresswoman nancy pelosi and her husband, paul. Were joined by feinsteins daughter katherine, but it was the people that feinstein served during more than 50 years of Public Service that were the focus of this viewing. We love because, you know, she loved the city. People line venice avenue and waited patiently to get into city hall. To pay their respects in person after viewing the casket, visitors could sign a condolence book before leaving she needed to do something. For all people, not just one group of people and thats why i love her so much epidemic. So supported the community so much, you help obviously a person who had a lot of conviction about what the right thing to do and and trying to follow through with theres a lot of people to get into politics dont seem to make a difference she truly did before threedecade careering the u. S. Senate. City hall was home to feinstein serving 9 years on the board of supervisors before becoming mayor after the assassinations of mayor George Moscone and supervisor harvey milk. Its or 2 terms as mayor that many remember most. Most impactful was how brought calm to the city after we lost her. And then she gave her whole life. Vice president Kamala Harris and congresswoman nancy pelosi. Among those expected to attend. Now, originally, the service outside San Francisco city hall was to be open to the public. Santa rosa is just one of the 14 bay area. Kaiser locations. Workers say they are striking to speak out about low wages, staffing shortages and a cost of living adjustment. You know, through the covid crisis, we lost a lot of employs. And weve never backfield. Those positions were tired. Our patients dont have quality care good access. Were out here fighting for patients today. Well, Kaiser Permanente issued this statement to kron 4, quote, remain committed to reaching a new agreement that continues to provide our employees with market lending wages marking leading wages, excellent benefits, generous Retirement Income plans. Valuable professional development opportunities. They added due to the strike. Some pharmacies might be closed. Elective surgeries might be put on hold and Lab Appointments may be postponed unless the deal gets reached. Strike is scheduled to continue through saturday. Francisco teachers are also getting ready to strike ploy ease in San Francisco. Unified School District say they will hit the picpet lines if contract negotiations do not improve. The district has been negotiating with unions which represent educators and non Teaching Staff since march. Union reps argue custodians, cafeteria workers not had a raise in 4 years while the ongoing payroll problem has not resolved either. For every time anyone employee. Underpaid or not paid is one too many. Officials with the School District say theyve offered a historic contract package for teachers. That includes a 10,000 ongoing raise for the school year. Also better pay for teachers, teaching assistants non Teaching Staff almost 100 of members voted in favor of that strike. Happening today. Its been more than 3 years since. 23 yearold Erick Salgado was shot and killed by a chp officer back on june 6 twentytwenty his sister a jail blanco says shes been fighting for justice since that day. Ive had to change. My whole life the work that i do now very similar to my life experiences. And i support of their families also lost their loved ones police. Police say they were chasing salgado who they say had stolen a car. He then crashed into 2 patrol cars in san leandro. Officers fired at salgado hitting him more than a dozen times. His pregnant girlfriend was also in the car at the time of the crash. She was injured and unborn baby did not survive. So daughter leaves behind a 6 yearold daughter will be financially supported through the settlement with good. Well, this will be the safest place in the city because they will be doing sweeps pretty soon and they will continue to monitor situation all day because they have some very special guests in attendance in just a few hours from now, the scaffolding is ready to go. It is right behind me and they were busy putting up the scaffolding even though people were streaming in. We do expect the Vice President to be here. Senate majority leader chuck schumer, congresswoman nancy pelosi among many people who will be in attendance and thats why they decided late last night just for security reasons. It arrived actually at San Francisco city hall at around 8 oclock in the morning. A little bit earlier than average highs and throughout the day, thousands of people went by her casket, which was draped with an american flag. It was behind velvet ropes with a honor guard standing to each side of it. So many people in attendance that they actually according to the feinstein family, they decided just continue going on past 7 oclock at night. That was the cut off time. But they saw so many people still in line. They said just go as long as its necessary to allow everybody in line to say their final respects. And then heres the video of it. Then the casket left city hall. One last time. Imagine how many times the late senator when she was mayor and supervisor of San Francisco arrived to San Francisco city hall. But last night was her last time as the casket removed from the scene here, we do expect a Memorial Service to start at 1 oclock in the afternoon for those who did stop by yesterday. Nothing but love and kindness. And here are their words about the late sen. I cant imagine the francisco. Without to she was the first woman mayor. I can tell you that mayor london breeds, she said the same things she made statements that she has a little girl in San Francisco, looked up to the late senator and because the late sen was, of course, a woman mayor london breed said i can do the same thing and sure enough thats exactly what she is doing. Being the only second female mayor of San Francisco. The first one, of course, with the late senator Dianne Feinstein. And then mayor london breed same circumstances, meaning that she was the president of the board of supervisors. And thats when mayor london breed stepped into the role after mayor ed lee passed away while he was at work. So same circumstances as far as the situation here, this is probably as close as we will be allowed to b as the morning moves on. We probably will be swept away as well because they will be high security at this back to all right. Well you know, its a life will serve when you have people of all ages saying they look up to you. Well in the east bay, neighbors and rodale are reacting to the drowning of a 2 yearold boy. 2 people were arrested in connection to that incident. Kron fours Philippe Djegal talked with some of the neighbors. The Contra Costa County office of the sheriff says on monday night deputies responded to a call reporting a 2 yearold boy drowned in a bathtub on california street. Firefighters performed cpr and rushed him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, met it. Some didnt. As a parent, it because how how can a cut to with the drone, all of the people we spoke with for this story, our neighbors and preferred not to share their name or face on camera shortly after the child died, 2 people were placed under arrest. The Sheriffs Office has identified the suspect as 22 yearold destiny. Dubbo. And 21 yearold tyshawn haywood. Both of rodeo, not ready for know. Kids dont have no it is unfortunate too. Should that happen . The official cause of death has not been released. The suspects are facing murder felony infliction of injury to a child and torture charges. Investigators have not confirmed the accounts from neighbors. Believe the drowning may have been staged. One thing that this is the the was needed. Is the discovery about the government. Investigators say payton cobb and hollister, lillian hand in san jose were both one years old. The girls were 2 of 3 children who fell into the pool at the happy, happy home daycare on fleetwood drive the 3rd child survived, according to the California Department of social services, investigators toward that home daycare back in 2020 for pre licensing inspection changes were made changes to that pool area requested by the department. Well, in 2021, the Department Gave the daycare the green light to open saying the pool was made inaccessible. No charges have been filed at this time. Well, in the north, a student at fairfull high was arrested for bringing a loaded gun to school. Police say the Schools Administration found that gun while they were conducting a search for a missing phone. Stewart was taken to Solano CountyJuvenile Hall and was booked on several weapons charges. Student was taken into custody. Happening now, Kaiser Health care employees are kicking off day 2 of their strike. They say fighting for better wages and to bring attention to the staffing shortages that theyre facing. Kron fours. You know, this is day 2 was reyna said and for the last 6 months, not only the union, but kaiser officials have been working to try to find common ground. They havent take a look leading to today. This second day of the strike and Kaiser Permanente. Workers plan to do this until this coming friday nationwide. Were talking about 75,000 workers protesting unfair labor practices asking for better pay better staffing in performance bonuses. Take a look. This is video from yesterday scene. They were out here at 5 in the morning yesterday. Just like this morning, its affecting hospitals in 7 different states. Were seeing the strike happening in washington, colorado, oregon, maryland, virginia, d c and right here in california, were talking about 60,000 californians that work for kaiser walking out 20,000 coming out of the bay area. Contract expired over the weekend. And workers are hoping for a 67 pay raise in the first year of a fouryear contract. And theyre also looking for a 25 minimum payment for each health care worker. Kaiser says that it has offered 23 an hour in california for these Health Care Workers in 21 outside of california saying that also has met its goal of hiring 10,000 new coalition represented employees by the year and saying that they met that 3 months early. Mark, they made that agreement back in april to hire 10,000 new employees going on to say that they continue to bargain in good faith with the best interest of their employees. Take a look. Kaiser permanente, our industry and our employees are now operating in a new culture, labor and postpandemic environment that were all working hard to understand.
