In the sky nor any evidence of fog on the horizon. We are seeing temperatures already warming to todays going to be one of our warmest days of the year. So far out along the coastline. So if you are in an area, you dont have ac, make sure you get those windows open for now because this afternoon heats up quick. Santa rosa. Youre already at 80 degrees right now in part of the reason for that is look at those winds and santa rosa around 26 miles per hour. A bit breezy these winds very importantly, out of the north and east. Thats transporting hot, dry air from our inland valleys all the way out to the coastline that snow fog and thus the hot temperatures inland areas will rise into the upper 80s if lot low 90s and our coastal spots all the way into the low 80s. Ill be talking all the details for the rest of your fleet week in your full forecast. Back to you. All right. Thanks a lot, john. Now lets get back to our coverage of Dianne Feinstein, her life and times which end here in San Francisco after so many years of really devoting her life to the lives of women specifically and in this nation and in california and in the bay area that she held dear and Public Service in general. As i mentioned earlier, weve been following. Todays event since they began really unfolding at 8 oclock this morning with the arrival of her casket, kron fours will tran was there as the casket was brought well join him now live in front of city hall. Will. James, as people go by her casket in front of city hall, they are preparing for the next stage of the goodbye for Funeral Service tomorrow at 1 oclock in the afternoon. And you can see they have shut down the front of city hall to give these workers all the room that they need as they put together this stage. This will be attended by thousands of people coming full circle. This is where she started her careers and it is where they will say goodbye to her. Let me show you video. She came to hear. A little bit earlier. Then promise. They said that her casket arrive at 08 30am in the morning. Instead. We were told that 7. 55, shes coming in 5 minutes. 5 minutes. Get ready and sure enough it 8 oclock with a Police Escort. Our first pulled up in front of city hall. Lot of dignitaries stood at attention as her hearse went by. Excuse me. Her casket went by followed by her family, her daughter, katherine, as soon as she saw the casket, put her hand over her heart. Husband, her daughter, followed in, escorted by mayor london breed. And as you guys have been talking about all morning, only the second mayor, mayor london breed the second female mayor in San Franciscos history. Let me show you video a little bit after that. We try to get a live interview with congresswoman nancy pelosi. She had to be whisked away for safety, but she did spend a lot of time in the rotunda spent time next to the casket. You can see are talking to catherine. Dianne feinsteins daughter spent a lot of times laughing, crying us are wiping her eyes just a little bit. And then kissing the casket with your lips as well as kissing her fingers and then placing it on the casket. So a very touching moment. She didnt talk to us as she escorted as actually has a exhibit. The building here at city hall. But you can clearly see i was only a few feet away from you can clearly see that she was very emotional. In fact, she helped escort senator Dianne Feinsteins body back to San Francisco from washington, d. C. , when she found out the news on friday that at the age of 90 years old senator Dianne Feinstein died while in office and what a careers. 31 years as senator, the longest serving senator in california history, the first female senator and before that, of course, she was supervisor for city hall at city hall and then ultimately became mayor from 1978 to 19 88. So lots going on with their very busy. We are going to try to head inside just to show you things look. But a lot of people coming out, guys, just seeing them. They dont want to talk. But you can clearly see they are emotional and im not just talking about congresswoman pelosi, just members of the public. Thats how much Dianne Feinstein meant to the city of San Francisco. Back to all right. Thanks so much. Well, well, put. Lets continue to hear what people think you know that a wealth of knowledge has michael yaki. Were going to have him throw. Heroes treated like heroes, protect our future union power. And again, this happening in 7 different states were talking about kaiser Health Care Workers protesting for unfair labor practices asking for better pay better staffing and performance bonuses. Right now. As i mentioned, the states include washington, colorado, oregon, maryland, almost 60,000 of employees are coming out of right here in california 20,000, i should right out of the bay area. And those are employed that youre looking at right now. Their contract expired over this past weekend. Right now, they are hoping for a 6. 5 raise in the first year before your contract. But there they negotiate beneficial to kaisers thing around 3 . So they keep going back and forth with that when it comes to other people are just Health Care Workers in general and kaiser. Theyre asking for 25, minimum payment. We can bring the camera over here. Maam. Whats your name naked . Carter hart, how do you feel this morning tell us about your sign . Good. And right now, kaiser saying, you know, emergency still open hospitals are running, but theres going to be delays and maybe appointments and nonemergency. Type procedures and stuff. Whats your message to . Maybe some of the i think if they were doing what they need to be doing, they wouldnt have to be way to know all difference that we would be in there working hard like we supposed any last final thoughts regarding the pay range of the minimum of work with us work work with us, not against us. We hear as a team effort, everyone out here. We dont want to be out here, but we have to do. Weve got to do. Thank you so i do in response, want to put up the kaiser a statement that they sent us earlier this morning. It should be on your screen now. This came out around 5 oclock this morning. Think, quote, both Kaiser Permanente management and Coalition Union representatives are still at the bargaining table. Having worked through the night in an effort to reach an agreement. There has been a lot of those for as of late tuesday, they go on to that they are targeting that there open. But may see some delays in those appointments. And again, back out here live. You can these people are very passionate about this topic. And i would say maybe 3 to 4. Youre in walnut creek off of south main street, loud. And again, this is happening all state of california and the entire country history, the Largest Health care strike we have ever seen. There is access point into the pool area and somehow along the way, there are ways that those doors opened no charges have been filed just yet. But according to the California Department of social services. Skies and the clear skies as ive been talking about a lot last year, you were unable to see so of the air show because of the fog. But getting a look out at the Golden Gate Bridge right now. Weve got those Crystal Clear conditions and look at this. It looks like a coast guard vessel coming in right under the Golden Gate Bridge right now. Youve got the parade of ships going on this week as well. And so for any of that, just some optimal viewing lets get a look at that for just another minute. Kind of cool to see a passing right under there right now. I think that is coast guard. Yeah, but we are looking at a really nice when, you know, when its clear at the Golden Gate Bridge like this, that you are going to be looking at the sunshine in most other places, too. And that is certainly the case today with nothing but the sun out there in full force from the coast to our inland areas. Now, what we have is this highpressure ridge that is firmly entrenched to the north and west of us. It is resulting in a generous northeasterly wind. Thats an offshore wind carries that hot, dry air from our inland areas right out to the coastline. You can see it right here. Areas like calistoga atlas peak speaking at 30 plus mile per hour. Wind gusts later on today. This is a dry wind. So fire danger is up to bit as we make our way through such a hot next several days. Were going to take a break here at 10. 22. And as we go, another live look inside San Francisco city hall beneath the rotunda where you can see in that spotlight, eliminating the casket of senator Dianne Feinstein lying in state as members of the public pay their last tributes and pay their last respects to a woman who is served and incredibly long and incredibly distinguished careers. Both here in San Francisco and as ournstate senator in washington, well be right back. 10. 25 and what a gorgeous day. Its going to be today. Oh, my gosh. And the rest of the week ahead, 2 and the weekend to come. Weve got john here with all the can wear bathing suit to the shirts. And here we are october 4th. Im joe, big thing soon. Art over and your heavy winter jacket. Angela . It certainly is that way today. We are looking at one of our warmest days for our coastal areas that ive had in your forecast so far this year. And it only october to get there looking outside at half moon one of those days that you just want to get out there, getting the swimsuit and enjoy a rare occasion at the beach in the bay area. And it is certainly perfect for it. We dont have a single dose of cloud cover or fog in the forecast today. Right now, temperatures are already heating up half moon bay. Youre at 75 bodega bay at 79. Then youve got santa rosa right at 80 degrees sf and oakland, some of our cooler spots comparatively only in the 60s. Currently. Now we are going to be seeing these offshore Winds Continuing all day long. What exactly does that mean . Well, its bringing that hot, dry air that you usually see inland and push it all the way up to the coastline. So its really not giving the ocean much of a chance to cool things down for us today. And thats why our coastal areas are right there with our inland spots rising into the 80s for your daytime highs later on. And thats just the start. The rest of your fleet week looks much the same with 80s continued all the way through the weekend. Im going to talking about our full forecast. Your sevenday forecast all still to come back to you. 10. 26 the time. And the San Francisco board of supervisors approved a resolution. Now it will ban drivers from turning right. On red lights. This comes just weeks after a 4 yearold was killed in a crosswalk near oracle park. The tenderloin district has it has had no turn on red signs since 2021. Stats show that signs of actually been 92 effective in that district. San francisco is the second city behind new york now to ban turns on, right turns on red. Is 10 27. And coming up next, more of our coverage and perspective looking at the life of senator Dianne Feinstein see her casket here in San Francisco city hall. And mourners are filing by to say their final goodbye to feinstein, who was the first female mayor of San Francisco and the first female to represent california in the senate. She has died at the age of 90. So were covering this the day before her funeral will be covering that as well. Tomorrow. Problem morning well be right back. 10, 30 is the time and again, were watching live this the moments inside San Francisco city hall. What you see there on the right draped in the American Flag as the casket of senator Dianne Feinstein. As we watch the guards changing out as they are standing watch over the casket as members of the public filed by on the left side of your screen. Thats what you see. People are walking between the cordon off areas taking a moment in front of the casket for themselves as they again remember and reflect on. Senator feinstein offered their last condolences and thoughts and then move on in the next person steps up. And thats what were seeing playing out and have been playing out since about 9 oclock this morning. You know, we have multiple cameras inside and we also have will tran outside city hall. He was there when the casket arrived. And we want to see what the latest is right now is going on. Right now, it is very busy in front of city hall as they are preparing for the next phase of the goodbye to senator Dianne Feinstein. You can see th m setting up the stage. They are getting ready because there will be a funeral right in front of city hall tomorrow at 1 oclock in the afternoon, bringing out the sound system. They will do all kinds of tests. They have blocked off the roadway. Nobody is allowed to drive past this area and even the pedestrians. Theyre not allowed to jaywalk to the other side as they need all of that to get ready for tomorrow. I just stepped out from being inside. And that line is very long at this particular time. I would think about maybe 25 30 minutes from the back of the line. And so you passed her casket and then sign the book. There are multiple books to die. And senator Dianne Feinstein that many people are writing in. Let me show you video of the casket arrived 8 oclock this morning with a Police Escort to made a right turn on to polk. Im sure its happened millions of times when she was supervisor as well as mayor of San Francisco. But this was one of the last times that she will obviously be a San Francisco. She will be brought back tomorrow for the funeral. But her casket arrived and so many people were standing at attention. The hearse pulled up right in front of city hall or family members or outside, including her daughter, katherine, they escorted the casket up the steps. They had their hand over their hearts. They were helped out by mayor london breed. And i mentioned mayor london breed because she is only the second female mayor of San Francisco. The first one was senator Dianne Feinstein back in 1978. All the way until 1988 her good friend congresswoman nancy pelosi. She showed up at around 8 38. 45 in the morning. She came here with her secret service detail. She came inside. Of course, skip the line, went right to the casket, spent moments with the casket. Talk to katherine at one point, even kissed the casket. It was nancy pelosi who helped escort senator Dianne Feinsteins body back from washington, d. C. , to San Francisco to sfo over the weekend. Its safe to say that she will be at the Funeral Services tomorrow. If you want to come here, let me just tell you, you cannot come on this particular side of San Francisco city hall. You have to use the Side Entrance over there. Thats on grove. Thats the entrance youll have to use to go inside. Otherwise this is off limits as they have the security detail. Not to mention that they have blocked off this area to allow the people to work. Senator Dianne Feinstein being remembered as a titan as a trailblazer. Her resume goes on and on and on. And im sure michael yaki has talked about it all morning. Hes her resume. I dont even know what to say anymore. It makes you. Really pale in comparison to what she says she did with her life. And by the way, on a little side note, i went inside. Express my condolences on behalf of kron 4 to her daughter, katherine. Back to you thank you for that will appreciate it. We want to talk a little more of michael yaki as you were talking about will and get his perspective on this and what i find interesting is michael, you had said when we first saw the casket right, she she could have, you know, like in the rotunda in the u. S. Capitol in washington, d. C. , or in the case in in sacramento. She chose San Francisco. Shes making. Every this once again, the center of her heart. Shes making the center. Everyone has to come in from dc including Kamala Harris. The Vice President has to come here. And thats appropriate. I mean, she she certainly had be. Honors available to to lie in state in the capital for all the competition actually had from being the first woman chair. So many important committees in the center for the legislation that shes for her longevity being the longest serving female senator and in the u. S. Senate and for all the work she did for what for or california desert protection act. All the headwaters protection of the ancient redwoods. So many things she was able to call behalf of the state of california who was always in her heart, always in her mind. You know, day were not go by when i would do went ever. I would see here and that was frequently when a supervisor and and about a couple times a year when i was i was commissioned civil rights up until last year. You know, whenever we saw kitchen, she would talk about one thing. San francisco. Wasnt doing. What did i think was going on you talk about your days as a supervisor. Very proud of her days as a Service Supervisor as well as mayor. So it was something that was just in her dna its its not just appropriate is exactly which he would have wanted to live here in state i mean, you the return of a building that had so many mequon memories and for which are was her baptism under her. You know, which which she cut her political teeth out and and and major, which is 2 point she was during her lifetime. I kind of a funny story about when she was a supervisor because i think about. Everything she had to battle as a woman. Know this is the old days and its not easy for a she also talked about the 96 60s really 7. But also she would you know, she do anything for right . So the the on the guy who develop pier 39 warren simmons, he says they made a bet and he says, listen, i get this done in 10 months. Shes like, no, you cant. If i can. I want you to show up to the Ribbon Cutting in a bathing suit. This is the old days. It may just celebrate 45 years. The pier she showed up. Now she was wearing a one piece like sutro baths. But she showed has good champaign. Good super San Francisco supervisor has to show up in a bathing suit. Yeah, yeah, she did it. She did it. I think that kind of person she was she he kept or capture preserve dignity of the same exact. Forced a lot of passes woman. It was an easy she had to. Kind of like hold the ground and at the same time move that yardstick for women. So it was a hard situation. Abm. Interesting. I was i was jim the break. I was watching interview when she was first running for supervisor in 1969. Yeah. And and she was outlining the issues that you carry with there director lifetime, which was the clean bay, a clean environment, womens rights prior to crime issues. I mean, this is things bat she never veered from. And she she she can get that her entire life. And issue if nothing very consistent but above all, a persistent, she was someone who just we persevere. When i quit last mayor 2 times thought about getting out of it and then fate intervened. And and but what i would say about politics is that about ability to to be in the right place at the right time, but also to be able to take advantage of the opportunity. There are many people the cant do the 3rd and she took advantage of the fact that page putter in the Mayors Office and she knew knowing rose to the occasion she created the occasion for herself and and became one of the greatest mayors of San Francisco. And then all obviously one of the greatest senators in the united she is someone who every tribute and that is coming your way. Shes someone deserves all the accolades but cheaper in the nothing was given to she took she took it and she ran and did a great job. And as were reflecting back on, you know what . Just a torch bearer she was for, you know, pushing forward women and politics and just women really in. Leadership roles in general. If there are young girls out there or anybody, young person, you know, looking at Public Service, maybe a little bit disheartened by the climate that were seeing right now in politics and and elsewhere. What lesson do you think people should take from Dianne Feinstein and her legacy to sort of bolster their spirits a little bit as they embark on what we hope will be a lot of people looking to Public Service. I would say that first. Today. Fact that you are a young woman who wants to be in politics is not in itself a threshold question. Y theres no, theres no threshold. Why you why . As a woman, its really why your convictions of your of your of your of europe is a chance. But its not a question of how your anymore. Sheet. She broke a barrier. She helped others break that barrier. She trail blazed and then shes on fire. So that no everyone else could follow. Can follow behind and that that that force barrier she just took it apart. Id. I was i was very fortunate to be part on the been working with nancy pelosi during the year of the woman camp in 1992. When you had so many when youre 7 women ready for the United States and who one to apply to him california. The first state with 2 female senators ever and you know, it it back in 92. It was still very much kind of a you know, now its thats not an issue. Kamala harris can be Vice PresidentUnited States. You know, its its i mean, its part is there. Know where youre going to say is there is there a difference . Yes, there is. I mean, i think she still to the day she died. She on that very day last thursday. She was planning a female like a womans beltway inside the Beltway Group where they have dinner to try to further their cause because she said, hey, theres still work to be done. Im not done yet. And and good as going to say, its not everywhere that this is the case, right . You see you see a lot of state legislatures out there still run by man doing terrible things in terms of womens rights in terms of right in terms of contraception things like that. But least here in california, in many parts of this country. There is no question about whether or not anyone regardless of their ginger, jen dir, orientation as a place as a role has an ability to be in politics. I mean, look at the new senator, a california placed first openly lgbtq senator in u. S. History. Black woman, someone is really i hope will has said that i hope will continue follow in the trailblazing footsteps. Dianne feinstein, but those very, very big shoes to and and, you know, just see what she has endured time left or she decides to run. All those things are still i actually out on the table for but right when it comes to die and what she was able to do. You just the i remember the first time we were talking some friday, you asking for one and i said the words strength and it really didnt. I released a still. Ive had lot of time to think about it. I still believe string strength that will strength of character during the strength of and just personal strength. I mean, remember. A few years ago, she added she left. She finished hearing. Wait, got a pacemaker installed was back the next and and castle last vote thursday and and passed away that jacket. All right. Thank you so much, michael. Well continue our coverage and you can continue if you want to go to San Francisco city hall and pay final respects. That is the line. Files by the casket will be right back. Welcome back. It is 10. 46, thanks for staying with us this morning in such a sunny and warm forecast ahead of us now for inland areas. You had plenty of this the past few months, but for San Francisco, another coastal areas, this is one of the warmest forecasts ive delivered year long and you can see just how clear it is at the Golden Gate Bridge. Nice and clear out their perfect for getting outside for fleet week today and on through the rest of the week, eventually into the weekend. Skies stay this way today and through the forecast because of this ridge of High Pressure thats set up to the north and west of us responsible for a dry, offshore wind that sweeping into the bay this morning allowing those hotter, drier conditions from inland areas to push out to the coastline and keeping that ocean cool there from having much influence.
