The road in front of city hall just to make sure people cross the street safely without any harm to themselves. Senator Dianne Feinstein coming home to where it all started began. Her careering 1969. And it ended on friday. And during that time she has described many ways and the one word that i saw before you came out to me, the word that was often used about here. Titan, she was a certainly wasnt. As we take a look here at nancy pelosi a way for her to go by the casket of her old friend. Nancy pelosi, who called feinstein the citys forever mayor. Because years after of 20 years, obviously were 0. 30. Feinstein left San Francisco. She still had her hand in, you know, the city in the bay area. Okay advocating and and making sure that that things were done for her city. And and you know, because she grew up here, she went to stanford. She served 20 years between this board of supervisors and the mayorship before going to dc and was one of only to the very first. But one of only 2 female senators from california. And now we see more more women serving, but still a drop in the bucket compared to what Dianne Feinstein had wanted the right . Yeah, absolutely. But she was on the. The leading edge of that movement that saw more women come into politics after 1992 than ever before. We will continue to follow the events there at San Francisco city hall as they play out over the course of the morning with the arrival of nancy pelosi. Of course, were actually going to stick with this because it looks as though she may be coming up to the casket here momentarily. And we want to share those pictures to you as they happen. But weve been again walking through the events that were expected to play out today and tomorrow, we know that the public will have an opportunity like congresswoman former Speaker Pelosi is doing right now. Theyll have an opportunity to pay their respects over the course of the day today until about 07 00pm tonight, at which point the rotunda will be closed to the public and then it will reopen again tomorrow at about 1 oclock for the actual official funeral. And for tomorrow, we expect to hear more from there will be speakers. Nancy pelosi will be one of them. London breed who talks about how, you know, feinstein was huge in shaping her political desires and that she played in a junior high band and they were gone as feinsteins and then, you know, shes hugely inspired by senator feinstein. So london breed will speak. Vice president Kamala Harris will speak after the match and former sent this brown. Absolutely. Absolutely. I mean, if if if einstein is called the forever mayor by nancy pelosi, then willie brown is the forever go as a man. Vice president Kamala Harris, u. S. Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer is going to speak and Chuck Schumer had such kind words for nancy pelosi. Yeah, after she passed it on right on the senate floor that morning, he said, quote, we lost giant. In the senate and then went on to say as the nation mourns this tremendous loss, we know how many lives she impacted how many glass ceilings she shattered along the way. A theme weve been repeating over and over this morning as we look back on her life legacy and her schumer said that america is a better place because of senator feinstein and americas current president. Joe biden will be delivering marks as well. But by video all here in person. But he has wellhead giving remarks after she passing that she was a cherished, friend of more than 15 years. Yeah. He also said to the dye and made her mark on everything. From National Security to the environment to protecting civil liberties. Our country will benefit from her lakers c for generations. That was just some of what the president had to say upon learning the news last week. But feinstein past she cast her last vote in washington, d. C. , before passing away last thursday. Going to the senate floor and from washington, d. C. , we see nancy pelosi who has flown here back to San Francisco and hes walking by her old friends casket just momentarily here going to pay her final respects before she speaks publicly about it tomorrow. It is really remarkable when you think about just the length and breath. Of senator feinsteins careers, which has will point it out began right here in this very city hall. And we were commenting off camera just how poetic it sort of is that it was back in 19 78 on those very same steps that senator feinstein. Announced to the world. The tragic assassination of then mayor george no mask on emma stoney and supervisor harvey milk, a tragic event that catapulted her into the mayors office. And from there and through all the years that passed, it was today that her casket was brought up those very same steps by the honor guard and placed under the rotunda. So that all who have benefited from her Public Service over the years could pay their last respects and will be selling here for a moment. See nancy pelosi pay her respects. And if ever left a loved ones casket that its hard walk very. And theres nancy pelosi saying goodbye to old friend. You wanted to be nice and clear. First and foremost. But also being comfortable doesnt hurt either. And for the city, it is about to be one of the warmest and sunniest forecast ive given so far this year looking out there at the Golden Gate Bridge, new sign of fog or any cloud cover anywhere in sight. Offshore winds already kicking into gear. So any sort of marine layer is pushed well away from the coast. High pressure ridge to our north. And thats what stirring up this offshore wind out of the north and east. You can see it picking up later on today with 30 mile per hour gusts up in the north bay mountains. Fire danger is going to be a little heighten today because of this. These are warm, dry winds transporting the hot air all the way to the coastline. And thats temperatures that look like this. Upper 70s to low 80s in sf today and at the coastline, too. Great day for a drive up highway one. It will be 80s to 90s elsewhere with daytime highs warmer than yesterday. So youll notice that across the board, our warmest spot. Todays los gatos at 91 degrees. While freeman through oakland all in the upper 80s. If you dont have ac now is the time to open up the windows, let the cool air and then close the curtains in the blinds later today, try to keep the house as cool as you possibly can. We are going to see a warm rest of the week for fleet week. 2, in fact, for the city tomorrow, friday and saturday could be even warmer yet with highs as warm as the mideighties and the sunshine sticking around today into saturday. The warmest of this forecast sunday still hot. But we start to see things cooling. And next week fall returns in a big way. Highs will be in the upper 70s at the very warmest and even a chance of showers next tuesday. Right now. John, thank you for that. Well, were back down from about 65 minutes to 44 along 101. You can see her casket here in city hall. She was the first female mayor of San Francisco in the first woman sent to the u. S. Senate. Racked up many first throughout her career and washington, a dc after serving 20 years between the board of supervisors in the mayorship in San Francisco, 30 more in washington with doors to the public are opened about a half hour ago. And as you can see there, the shot, steady stream have been showing up. To pay their last respects. And this was after her casket arrived right around 8 oclock this morning and our own will tran was there when the senators body arrived to like to be laid there in the rotunda and will youre out there now . What are you seeing . Im in front of city hall and we are awaiting congresswoman nancy pelosi to eventually exit her car is right in front of us with her secret service detail. We saw her inside spending moments with their dear friend. She stood in front of the casket, even kissed the casket of senator Dianne Feinstein. Her casket actually arrived a little bit earlier, then promise. Let me show you video of that. It arrived 8 oclock in the morning being escorted by the San Francisco police department. They told us that he would be here at 8 30, but at 8 oclock, a keen to city hall with an escort part 2, right in front of it. Everybody stood at attention. Her family members, including her daughter, katherine. She was just outside of the and win. The casket went right by air. She put her hand on heart and then followed the casket inside. It is official right now that actually started about 30 minutes ago where the public is allowed to go inside and spend moments with her right before the casket. And then theres a book where you can write your condolences to her family members, which obviously will be given to her 7 to them after this is over. It will go on until 7 oclock. Tonight we see a steady stream of people already inside the rotunda. And how fitting she comes full circle born in San Francisco started her political careers right here at the steps of city hall in 1969. As a supervisor, the first female, president for the board of supervisors and then became mayor in 1978 all the way until 1988. But that was just barely scratching the surface with their political careers. Became senator in 1992 and at the time of her death, she was the oldest serving senator. At 90 years old, she served in many committees, including the Senate Intelligence committee, the first female politician to preside over an inauguration back in president barack obama. She will be known for many things. I hear the words titan trailblazer, so many of her colleagues that once work with are james and darya at San Francisco city hall, they stopped by here to pay their respects as well. And just to make sure that everybody is safe. You can clearly see nobody is walking behind me. No cars in front of they have blocked off this particular section of city hall just to make sure everybody is safe. We are outside waiting for Speaker Pelosi. I should say. Former speaker of the house nancy pelosi. Shes now a congresswoman for her to come out and possibly we can do a live interview with about her dear friend, senator Dianne Feinstein. It was pelosi to help escort her body back from washington, d. C. , to sfo. And then of course, she is here in San Francisco where it all started. Hopefully shell come out and talk to us. If she does, we will try to take that live for you as it happens. Back to you, james start. All right. Well check back you a little bit them. Thank you. Just tell us. All right, 9. 33. Lets also bring into the discussion now, political analyst michael yaki joining us once again this morning. And you just heard, will michael rattle off a few words that come to mind . We pelosi trailblazer pioneer all throw another one in there. Pragmatist because she was from an era and cut her teeth in politics at a time when it was expected that our lawmakers in washington would go there and hammer out deals with the other side and make progress and get things done. Something in todays politics is almost taboo. But, you know, Diane Feinstein really did i say, i so oldschool. I like to say its a she was 20th century politician, which kind of strange concern. Its not not that long ago, but there are who believe bipartisanship in areas of Foreign Policy and domestic policy. She worked, for example, Kay Bailey Hutchinson of texas no street, no, no big proponent of a progressive causes when she was but they into 2. And then issue why amber alert system are for kids in this country. And that was something today working on together. She managed to defy expectations and get the assault weapons ban attached to attached to the crime bill in 1994, when no thought including dennis head in just a committee, joe biden, i in a new chance of getting that done. She did you know, she was pregnant just but to her core. You know, she believed in the things that we all its services go believe believe in human rights, dignity, the worth of every individual, a to b t q rights. Shes one of the first politicians to back in those days and they say you embrace a community that that was still very much on the margins and is now a vibrant core who we are and our identity. So she youre shooting it. Its not a question of sort of why she and the center is just as she saw the center as the place in which you could move legislation forward. She didnt. See as a compromise. You feel that as a way forward and that was how she governed in in San Francisco. And thats how she worked legislated in washington, d. C. , and what struck you as you watch within the last half hour, we saw. And nancy pelosi going by the casket and anybody whos ever left a casket knows its hard to pull away. And she she sat there and she touched and she seemed to be telling maybe some stories to those who are with her. We know will shell be speaking tomorrow and were waiting to maybe speak tour today. But i you know, i wonder what she was sharing issue was on the casket. She had come in from washington, d. C. , and are that interesting pelosi this morning. Well, know shes shes shes been here saturday when she the senators body back back to re city. But you can switch. You see there. Ask and its going to get some context tears. You see here has been see cap you see in the middle is nancy karin, a pelosi. Her daughter was very close. Diane fact, theres a joke that if they are ready to teach other nancy cream was going to vote for next, there is Christine Pelosi mentioned to the right is rick marianna, we just have find signs, husband. And you also see the person holding. Im nancy kerr and around the arm is is katherine financing her daughter then guy granddaughters there as los fans, thank you for that perspective. Close families look at you know, couple things to say. One. Also wearing a hat which is great. That means it is is that means a lot in terms of his recovery. But you see the close of the 2 families here together mean in 1987. Although she was first running for congress, dianes term, which was term limited out. And there is speculation that she may run for the same seat mentioned that opposing eventually going to run and win 4 and of course, of diane had run. I been a very different but she understood, you know, that she wanted to be governor. She would member of congress. She liked being there and she did was not going to stand in Nancy Pelosis way running for vacated by the death celebrating and, you know, theyve theyve been political fearing it when diane was mayor, she appointed nancy to help. Department chair. The Host Committee 1984, a Democratic Convention which was held in mice Committee Sen and what most people dont realize forgotten is that the first talk . Im a woman for Vice President of the United States. Was Dianne Feinstein in and her her name stayed it in the running as potential the ppp selection from 84 all the way up to clinton and in 92 and if for which eventually picked by walthr mondale in 84. But Dianne Feinsteins name was out there and the idea the concept, the notion warming could be vice for the United States started right here in San Francisco in 1984. Like said, we you know, we made real strides in being a woman in politics, but that its never easy. And i was alluding to whats going on in sea left and shes got a vacated office and shes not even there right now. So shes got people moving around. What do you think that weve got . What speaker pro tem Patrick Mchenry ordering her to vacate her office by quote, unquote tomorrow. But pelosi says im kind of here in San Francisco right now. Yeah, i that was extremely petty. There is a tradition and it is a strong and long tradition. That xp kurz or leaders recorded office in the capital addition to their office. And one of one of the house office buildings. And thats been a tradition thats been handed down, think almost for centuries by what we have heard is that this order do not actually comfort mchenry. It was sort of the last gasp order kevin mccarthy. He as he left 2000 ministration committee carried out. It intended as hat trick mchenry. So i mean, yeah, it. Well, its package spirit. Its petty. It shows a lot about the character of kevin. I think, which is why you saw that. Absolutely 0 democrats. Were going to bail him out his fate was and that was in the hands. The Republican Caucus and and Speaker Pelosi made it very clear statement the other day it it was going to be decided by the Republican Caucus tonight, but not by the democrats. It could have been different. Mccarthy credit reached out to the democrats, yeah, you know, it didnt have it didnt happen. Mccarthy blames democrats strangely enough. And i think up in petty act on his way out the door rebooted out vote. Speaker pelosi, former leader hoyer from their offices in the capital. They still have their offices in house office buildings, but its always nicer if you have a place in the capital, which is right next to the floor, if you get going to do legislation be the adviser, she was tubing to the leader, right . Well, as were talking to you, actually, we see live here. Images of exiting the San Francisco city hall and getting into the suv is part of her motorcade that will take her away from the building. And were going to hear her speak yeah, was a Funeral Services as well. And all right. Michael, thank you so much. We want encourage. Yeah, and youll be back. That will be be in studio tomorrow. Ok, perfect. I see it is nice to get perspective. We appreciate it. Well continue our coverage throughout the morning and we want to leave you with some. Pictures of Dianne Feinstein over the years has great. Always in that state of mind living on a high vibration so hot gonna make it melt and im lovin what im tastin nos gusta mezclar como malteada aqui hay lugar yeah we livin in the golden state a better forecast. Sunny, clear. I mean, from this wednesday on till when john that we have nothing but sunshine and blue skies. I mean, tell sunday the core of the heat is today through saturday. Its just going to be warm for San Francisco and this is one of the warmest forecast ive given to you all year for the city itself, which is usually kind of on the cool side when the rest of us are so high. So this is perfect timing. Honestly, great viewing for fleet week. The a parade ships going on today. Absolutely. 0 father cloud cover above the golden gate from the coast to our inland areas. No cloud cover whatsoever. Smooth sailing while why is it so different than last week . And why is it so different than really the rest of the year . Its all about that placement of the High Pressure ridge to the north and west of us. And that offshore flow winds from the north and east pushing right into the bay and transporting that hot, dry air right out to the coastline. And that pushes marine layer away from spots like San Francisco, little breezy in the north bay mountains today, gusts as high as 30 miles per hour. So fire danger will be a bit elevated because of that 70s to 80s for San Francisco today. A hot one by city standards, 70s and 80s as well. The coastline and the rest of the bay area even warmer yet with a lot of 80s to even low 90s are very spot today. That will be you in los gatos. Up to 91 degrees for your daytime high. Well, pretty similar across the rest of our inland areas with upper 80s to low 90s, stretching all the way up into the north bay, oakland, even up to 86 degrees. Delay hill, 88 today and santa rosa and pedaling about hovering right around 90 degrees tomorrow through the start of the weekend is actually expected to be even warmer for sf reaching as warm as the mid 80s. So Crystal Clear skies, warm temperatures definitely feels like summer in the bay area, even though it is second week of fall. As for tomorrow through saturday, this is the core of the heat with most of our 90s inland and near 90s by the bay shore will back off of the heat after that by monday to tuesday of next week. Right back to fall. Weather highs at our warmest in the 70s and even a chance of showers by tuesday. All right, john, thank you for that. Has say were seeing a lot of improvement. On our highways and bridges in the 9 oclock hour. 41 right along 1, 0, one. 85 up to menlo park. 2. 80, looks even better. 17 minutes traveling into the city this morning and our san mateo bridge are finally under 16 minutes to make it across towards peninsula. 8. 80, silly answer downhill. Pete 33 minutes there. Traveling up 5, 88 88 and he still got a little goal a little bit going on. Theres a travel oakland, 5. 80, smooth sailing. And lets check on a 80 as youre traveling from crockett down towards the maze. Its down from 35 to 20 minutes. All right. James, back to you. All right. Were just talking to john about these temperatures today. Its going to be hot and really the whole week is pretty warm. Yeah. Perfect opportunity to get any yard work done. I know arborists are looking at this week of dry weather is a Good Opportunity to get ahead of whats expected to be a very wet winter months ahead. When that happens, weve seen what can happen.
