And Kaiser Permanente is already letting its members know that they could see delays. Take a look. This is video that we have from previous picketts of kaiser workers in total. As we mentioned, 75,000 healthcare workers set to strike nationwide. This threeday strike could start as soon as wednesday. October 4th, thats just in 2 days. And it includes workers in washington, colorado, oregon, and almost 60,000 here in california with 20,000 coming out of the bay area, their contracts expired over the weekend. Union officials tell us they have had really good discussions with kaiser on numerous issues. But one of the big issues they still do not see eye to eye with is the pay for workers. And overnight, kaiser told its members it remains at the bargaining table in good faith and that they are. There is still a chance that this strike could not happen. But take a look at ces quote in the case of a strike, we may need to reschedule some nonurgent appointments and procedures. Well contact you in advance if your appointment needs to be rescheduled. This battle between the union, its with kaiser and itself and last month over in los angeles, we saw about 23. Governor gavin newsom has announced his replacement to fill the late senator Dianne Feinsteins seat in the senate. He is appointing democratic strategist la funds up Butler Butler is the president of emilys list and has a long political resume. As kron fours State Capitol correspondent Eytan Wallace takes a look. Governor newsom wanted quickly after the death of senator Dianne Feinstein on friday that remember, this is a very powerful and important seat. Just one of 2 representing the most populous state in the u. S. Senate newsom and promised to appoint a black woman to the seat and he is making good on his word. La fonda butler is the president of emilys list. Thats an organization working to elect prochoice women to office. Shes also the former president of the seiu United Long Term Care Workers Union and was a member of the uc board of regents for more than 5 years now on top of all of that, she was a Democratic Party strategist who was a long careers california politics. She will be the only black woman serving in the u. S. Senate and the first openly lgbtq person to represent california in the senate as well. We spoke with Loyola Law School professor Jessica Levinson about why this was such an important pick. So i think that ms butler is a smart pick because Governor Newsom is essentially able to make good on both of his promises. He said im not going to pick somebody whos actively running in the race. He didnt want to put his on the scale. And he also said im going to pick a black woman, the pick, a black woman who is also at the forefront of issues. He cares about about gender equality, about reproductive choice. And so i think for the governor, this pick makes a lot of sense. It also makes sense because Senate Democrats need another person there. They cannot be down a body and we expect that ms butler will be sworn within a matter of days. And already questions are rising over butlers official residence. Now for biography on the emilys list website and on her twitter account listed her state of residence as maryland. But the Governors Office is quickly putting that to bed saying she is a longtime california resident and has a house here at in clarification that she moved to a dc suburban maryland when she took over as emilys list president in 2021, a spokesperson from the Governors Office tells me butler will re register here before she is officially sworn later this week, governor gavin newsom wrote this on social media about butler, quote from her time as president of emilys list, a leading the states Largest Labor union. She has always stood up for what is right and has led with her heart and her values. So what happens next . Will butler is expected to be sworn in later this week . And as for how this impacts the 2024 race to fill that seat, well, were told butler is free to run for the seat of she wants. She join major democratic candidates, adam schiff, but early and katie porter who have already entered the race in the newsroom. Im a tom wallace. Well, congresswoman barbara lee is as weve heard running for that senate seat this past summer. She criticized the governor for saying that he would appoint a black woman to serve but only on an interim basis until next years election. In a statement she said, quote, i wish the well and look forward to working closely with her to deliver for the people of the golden state. I am singularly focused on winning my campaign. Funeral plans are finalized. Meantime, for senator Dianne Feinstein, the public will have a chance to pay respects to the late senator this week. Feinsteins body was flown back to San Francisco from washington, d. C. , over the weekend and escorted from sfo to sinai memorial chapel. The route was lined with people who wanted to pay their respects along the way stopping and observing a moment of silence. You can see the police lined up in front of a mortuary there. Senator feinstein will lie in state and San Francisco city hall on wednesday from 09 00am to 07 00pm and the public is invited to pay respects. There will be a condolence book that you can sign and then the next day thursday, theres a private Funeral Service at 1 oclock in the herbst theater at San Francisco war memorial. Well, in the north bay, police in valais are now investigating a fight out at 6 flags that ended with a teenager being stabbed. Police kron for this fight broke out just before 9. 40, saturday night was just outside the front gates to the theme park. So it wasnt in the park itself. The suspect left the scene before police arrived. Officers say the victim suffered nonlifethreatening injuries. They were taken to the hospital and treated. No arrests have been made just yet. Meantime, multiple sideshows involving hundreds of people kept police busy early yesterday morning. Take a look. Police say they first started receiving reports of about 2. 30, in the morning. And were in for a dry trend of weather and a warming trend. This High Pressure ridge is going to position itself to the north and west of us. This will result in an offshore wind. And we know what that transporting warmer, dry air from the interior valleys towards the bayshore and out towards the coastline. And this will result in some of the warmest weather so far this season for areas towards the coast as we move into the tail end of this week. As for today, its still cool in these areas. 60s 70s for sf 60s at the coastline and then 70s to low 80s elsewhere. Now, this is a warm up as compared to where we were yesterday. Youll notice that toast year feel to it today. San jose up to 78 degrees and some mid 70s for most of the east bay shoreline. Some inland areas like danville, up to conquered, as well as an eeoc up to vacaville each reaching the low 80s today, getting close for a lot of surrounding areas in the north bay. Once that petition is filed, the court will decide whether the person meets the requirements for treatment resources, including temporary shelter and Mental Health services for those suffering from psychotic disorders like schizophrenia will then be made available right away. There was a possible shark attack at wildcat beach. Rescue crews have spent most of sunday searching for a person who went missing in the waters. Now, according to the brink county sheriff, the woman was in the water north of Stinson Beach with a group of friends when she went missing. Her friends say they saw a shark in the area and blood in the water where she was last seen. However, officials havent been able to confirm that the shark attack happened point raze National Park service, marin county and Stinson Beach fire engines. You tvs coast guard helicopters. They were all helping with the search. Well, Mill Valley Police are investigating reports of a Mountain Lion sighting in the area of camino alto and over hill road. The report came in at about 6 oclock yesterday morning officers checked the area, though, couldnt find the mountain line. This was the scene over the weekend in albany when Family Friends and colleagues held a vigil. To remember a mother who was shot and killed at a toyota dealership in albany 2 weeks ago. Police say that a lot of gallon was killed in a targeted shooting. It happened while gallon was working at that dealership. Authorities are calling it a case of domestic violence. But her family says her death was an active, senseless violence. Love the support. I was shock and hold each and every would she was just all giggles and she loved her. So came love. King they was like this but maybe i got to stay strong him. Gallons mother set up a gofundme to help for the familys expenses and funeral expenses during this difficult time. And sunday mark, 30 years since the murder of 12 yearold polly klass, the crime that shocked the bay area resonated throughout the nation. It was in 1993, the polly klass was kidnapped during a Slumber Party in petaluma. Her body was found months later in Sonoma County after she had been strangled to death in honor of classes, tragic death. Her father marc klass found at the class kids foundation. They advocate for laws that protect children and help conduct missing searches as well as train search and rescue volunteers. The class family held a gathering in mill valley to offer gratitude to family and friends for their support throughout the years. Oakland police say that a man was shot friday evening and died days later. Officers got to the scene around 05 00pm. In the on 100th avenue. And you can see where the shooting happened. There. And the stay was listed in stable condition after the shooting. But then the person passed away. The investigation is ongoing. Sandra fell. Police officer is recovering after being hit by a car in this police cruiser. You can see it is with the Department Shared of the scene. This was one 30 in the morning on saturday at the intersection of francisco boulevard east in belen boulevard. Thats the other car that was involved. That car, they say a dodge dart ran a red light and slammed into the side of the patrol car, the shoving that patrol car about 100 feet down the road. The officer is recovering from minor injuries and the driver was arrested. One person is dead following a massive house fire in crockett. Fire crews shared images here during the battle. It was just before 7 oclock yesterday morning. They say flames were coming from the bottom floor of that home, which is located on lillian street. Crews were able to knock down the walls, put out the fire, but they did confirm that one victim was found. Dead inside that building. No word yet on what started that fire time now. 75 and the largest dam removal project in u. S. History is now underway. Along the california, oregon border, theyre removing 4 dams along the klamath river. That that will reconnect with a 400 miles of the waterway for the first time in 100 years and preserve vegetation. The demolition is part of the national movement. Now to return the natural water flow to our rivers and restore surrounding habitat since the start of this, more than 2000 dams have been removed all across the country. Affordable child care if it was affordable is going to get less. So even now after the covid air emergency funding has expired. The American Rescue plan included 24 billion dollars in child care, stabilization grants and thats going away. Now more than 70,000 child care programs across the country are impacted and that includes 3. 2 million children in those programs. And in response, a Bipartisan Group of lawmakers is trying to address the high cost of childcare going over the childcare. Cliff. And the resources to have child care options, affordable child care options. The initiative does face uphill battle in the republican led house, however, because they see it as runaway spending. San Francisco Police made a quick arrest following a stabbing spree and assault. According to officers. The call came in at about 07 45am in the morning sunday near 4th and market streets. Police arrived on scene detained a man who they say assaulted one person and stabbed 3 others. That man is in custody now with the investigation ongoing. All 4 people were taken to the hospital. No word yet on their current condition. Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact sfpd. Meanwhile, in the south bay, san jose man is accused of poisoning his own mother with fentanyl. The death has been under investigation since june. The womans body was found at a home in the East Foothills on utopia place near story road. The suspect identified as bradley. Dexter is also accused of violently attacking his father who was hospitalized with injuries. Dexter is now in custody facing charges of murder poisoning and elder abuse. Police in san leandro are investigating 2 different shootings. They have been on different days but theyre in the same parking lot outside of 24 hour fitness. There was a shooting on september 14th and one on september 24th outside the 24 hour, fitness gym at the Bayfair Center and both cases a man was shot and killed. Investigators are not sure if the 2 incidents are connected. Theyre investigating. Well, the california condor or is making a big comeback. The endangered birds were recently spotted out of mount diablo and in portions of status. Last county we have Dennis Shanahan with the story. Standing about 3800 feet tall. Mount diablo is visible from the sacramento and san joaquin valleys. But to truly appreciated, you can drive all the way to the top and bask in the breathtaking views. And if you are extremely lucky, you might get a glimpse of a rare endangered california condor or this was big news for us because for the first time in 100 years, we had a flock, 6 bird flock of california, condors in contra costa county, juan pablo galvin, martinezs senior land use manager for the nonprofit save mount diablo. He explains condos are tracked in california by gps. This flock of 6 that was around mount diablo originally started out in this area down by a pinnacles and big school as a flock of 26 birds. Most of them went up up up, stopped around the pacheco pass area right here. This extent visited mount diablo, went on to spend the night on so in stanislaw county, which is part of the expansive diablo range. This is great news in a time where we need great news, especially in terms of our planet and nature. The first time in 100 years that a flock of these 9 and a half foot wingspan majestic birds. Have been in our area. What the diablo range offers. The birds is plenty of open, undisturbed space.
