And a lot of first, she was one of californias first 2 female senators, first woman to head the Senate Intelligence committee. The first woman to serve as the judiciary committees top democrat. Now the senators health has been declining some time, particularly in the last few months. A bout of shingles sidelined her for more than 2 months earlier this year, absence. The drew frustration from a lot of people. But feinstein return to the senate said that she planned to finish out this last term and kron fours gayle ong joins us live galas at San Francisco city hall where feinstein did make a lot of history to vicki and catherine, the flags are flown at half staff here at city hall and across San Francisco before becoming u. S. , senator Dianne Feinstein spent the better part of 2 decades here at city hall in San Francisco. People have been stopping by honoring senator feinstein. I spoke with longtime san franciscans who paid their respects. I thank her for everything she did for the city of San Francisco thats what san franciscan Sandy Ferguson wrote to senator Dianne Feinstein when she took over helm of San Francisco tragedies occurred with mayor mosconi. There was a rough period she stepped friday and very brave she was a great influence to all leaders follow during the bust of senator feinstein, which sits across from mayor mosconi on the second floor of city hall. Brought community together, as i would say as a as as the mayor of San Francisco in the hardest of times. Milton thompson also stopped by to write a message for the senator there. London breed thanking him for his visit. Dianne feinstein never stop being mayor. She led with courage. She worked hard for the city. Meantime, people left flowers at feinsteins home in San Francisco. Elizabeth circuit lives nearby and says she met the senator while out for a walk. She was amazing. She broke down so many barriers. You know, for people of my generation and your generation, she was the one who showed us the way that we could do we could be a mayor. We could be a senator. We could be a president. And that book of condolences is located on the 4th floor here at city hall. If anyone wants to stop by and right messages to the late sen the mayor of San Francisco says she will share those messages which binds theis family reporting live from San Francisco. Brown recalled the time of the 1960s when feinstein who was then known as diane burman, showed up to a rally to protest discriminatory housing policies in San Francisco and who showed and so less of it. This woman pushing of this white woman pushing a with a kid in it was today berman at that and are going looking forward. Mayor brown says he hopes the governor gavin newsom will make good on his promise to appoint a black woman to replace feinstein in the senate. Although he appointed the latino that a proceeded to say. If they have the opportunity, he would appoint a black keep commitment in San Francisco. Charles clifford kron, 4 news. Alright, jumping into weather right now. This is a live shot of the landmark right there and Largest Airlines actually have my windshield wipers on a little bit crossing the golden gate. A little drizzly. Yeah, a little drizzle out there. A little damp specially on the coast what a change in the last 24 hours, were looking at all the sunshine and beautiful all the way, the coastline that all of a sudden, yeah, we got a cold front swinging in that changed everything the clouds rolling in right now. Weve got more on the way overnight tonight. Even a chance of some real rain drops looking out over quite how right now you see some of those clouds in the distance and well, the rain. Yeah, weve been waiting for this. You see that swirl in the atmosphere moving in Northern California right now that is the area of low pressure thats going to be responsible for a chance of some rain here. Most of that so far is confined up north of us right now. Weve got some showers in that direction. Most of that just scattered, as you can see. And thats whats going to be wrapping around into the bay area. So were not expecting a major rain event but will be nice to see a couple of raindrops make their way in our direction. You see some of those making their way into northern Sonoma County right now. So thats going to be dragging down across the bay area overnight tonight and tomorrow, too. So, yep, if you have plans outdoors, just prepare. Its not going to be a washout, but likely see some scattered showers on saturday. Temperatures out the door right now in the 60s and the 70s looking ahead here. Yeah, were gonna see some showers tomorrow. And then back to dry weather on sunday. Much warmer weather. The beginning of next week. All right, lauren, so a lot of people reacting to the death of senator feinstein today and that includes bay area. Legislators east bay. Congresswoman barbara is one of the men. Shes joining us live. Thank you so much, congresswoman. You know, vicki and i and everybody is talking about the long list of firsts about this woman being an incredible political pioneer. But its good to talk to someone who knows her and didnt know worked alongside her how this is affecting you and how you remember. You know, this is a sad day, even though we she was you know, when she came to work, yesterdays vote, it actually. But people are really mourn and grieve. India, on the other hand, celebrating her life and legacy. Wasnt person who who charted the course to pave the way for so many of us with senator feinstein. She was out early supporting lgbtq equal rights in marriage. Crowd she out early talking about preserving our planet and the environment. She was out early as a woman dot fighting to reduce gun violence by passing boats, saw weapons ban. And so lead the for women and did it in a way demonstrated her strength, her grace, but also her kindness. Several stores. But let me share one with you. You know after i voted against the 2001 authorization to use military force in 2000 and i was the only one voted against that everyone else voted for, including senator feinstein. What it was in the senate with senator feinstein. She understood the threats that was under. She understood how horrible that time was for me and she was a painter and she paid and or kit its, you know, loved our kids and she gave me working as a gesture of friendship and kindness and love and was regardless of our boats. She was a human being and she signed for me and put down the date and that just spoke volumes to me about how you could a woman. The leader of brilliant legislator. You know, someone who cared about california cared about people, but you have to be a kind and gentle human outside of politics. So washington can be a really vicious places as we all know did it to have a woman there that was she a cohesive element for for other women in politics. Because we know senator feinstein want to get the job she was always getting whatever it was. She was working on and so she works with people with republicans, democrats, progressives, myers, but she stay focused on. She wanted to get sometimes some would criticize or sometimes some would not agree with but okay. She kept for him and, you know, for someone like senator feinstein to be out there on roe versus wade, reproductive early on fighting for womens rights. Early on. You know, she just paved the way for all of us to feel stronger and empowered and that, yes, we could do Amazing Things also. And so today, you know, think about her family or friends. My condolences and sympathy r everyone, including whole state group relly lost National Treasure and someone who will be missed. But left and unbelievable congressman, you touchedn this, but she could reach across the some considered to her or not progressive enough. She was able disagree with some members of her own party from time to time but as we wereaying earlier, she just she moved through that. She navigated tt with boyce. Yes, she did. And she never ck down. But she sheen. You have to deal with people where they were. She never would have much of what you accomplished you not reach across the aisle. And many critical of romney. We all are, you know, open for criticism as an elected official, but she didnt let that stop or she kept her eyes on the prize and and forged right ahead got the job and i think that what works speaks for the south. And so its really you know, were heartbroken. Heartbroken. You know, grieving about this loss. Remember her and so many ways, but also recognize and her they deserve our love and support even though celebrating her life with that, remember we have to take time to grieve and to the fact that you will no longer be with us. And it is a a sad day in a terrible loss. And yet the wheels of government keep turning without heard there. How does her absence now affect a potential Government Shutdown . You know, Government Shutdown the Kevin Mccarthy, the speaker. And these may extreme as republicans. Theyre the ones. Trying to manufacture reasons to shut the government down side here in washington, d. C. , and we all are trying to past forward is the re on Kevin Mccarthy and on the republicans to do this and and to stop playing games. Impact of a Government Shutdown on ordinary people out of peoples lives on the arrangements that people have made and the lack air Traffic Control as people furloughed, the most Vulnerable People not being able to get a paycheck. I know caregivers, people who rely his start to take their children today care will be able to go to their jobs because they cant get the kids and they that impact on people and their families is enormous. Not to mention the impact on the economy slows mega extreme as republicans. And and Kevin Mccarthy who are the was try manufacture create Government Shutdown. And so we can have to find a passport and got to be bivartisan. So theyre not vote for this to be bipartisan as us as an advice. I was bogey yesterday and she passed away this morning. And so i would hope that some of these republicans would would do the right thing and and make sure that we passed a can a clean continuing resolution in the end, senator feinsteins honor because thats what she would want us to do. Congresswoman, i know of people are treading lightly on what comes next. But i think we have to at least acknowledge Governor Newsom is in the middle of an interesting and unusual situation. Hes got to pick somebody short term. Of course youre running for feinsteins seat. What if anything, can say about the fact that nothing else that vote is going to be sorely missed in the senate . You know, today im not anything except that we need to take time to honor the legacy. Ally of senator feinstein. Thats all i have to say. Theyll be time to talk about other things about politics and policies. But right you know what i this earlier. You know to do . Fish uls of journalists, people who you know, in the midst of all these cry says this is a hard life that we live. And and so we have to take time to be human and not forget the human aspect what is taking place amongst each other. And so thats the time and the space that im no, i i kind of figured youd say that. But it was worth a try. All right, congresswoman, thank you. I know well be talking to door. Yeah, its true. I thank you so much for joining us.
