They say to decrease pedestrian deaths. Kron 4 S Michael Thomas in San Francisco with the latest. These changes could come as early as january and it really is all happening just a month or so after we saw that 4 yearold lose their life while they were walking through the crosswalk with family, which is the intersection that im at now. This is video from that horrific scene. A situation that officials are trying to make sure doesnt happen again. The idea to ban turns on red lights across the city at all. Stoplight intersections came tuesday night at San Franciscos board of supervisors meetings. The citys Municipal Transportation Agency now has 121 days to not only come up with a plan, but also funding for the idea. Once its finalized, San Francisco will be the second city in the nation behind new york to ban turns on red spoke with one turns on red spoke with one pedestrian who had this to say couple mostly Pay Attention to where im going, but then you always people that kind of just sign. They dont care what theyve for something that was this ban is already something thats in effect in San Franciscos tenderloin district and has been since 2021. These are some stats of success from officials. They say 92 of drivers followed the no turn on red with an 80 decrease of close calls. Situations right now turn on red crashes mark for about 20 pedestrian and bicycle related injury crashes between 2012 2015 40 of accidents happen. When drivers failed to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk. Officials say right now their biggest concern is to make sure lives are saved and theres no more injuries as to how drivers will react when a this change actually happens. Police are now confirming one of those vehicles was stolen. It happened near international boulevard and 54th avenue around 9. 30. That pedestrian was hit by the first vehicle while crossing the street. The impact that collision pushed them further into the road where they were later hit by that second vehicle. The people inside the first vehicle abandoned and ran away according to police. And the driver was later found and taken into custody. The chp investigating a possible freeway shooting at east bound 5. 80, in oakland. This is video from the citizens app of the incident here around 5. 30, this morning. Officers responded to reports of possible gunfire near grand avenue when authorities arrived. No victims or vehicles related to the possible shooting were found. The incident didnt shut down traffic for about an hour. The roads are back open. The investigation is still ongoing. And the search is continuing for a new police chief oakland tomorrow. The community will get their chance to weigh in. And many people are calling for the former police chief Leronne Armstrong to be reinstated. Kron fours madyun has the latest. Naacp in favor rehiring. The former strong paiva rehired him. Right. We dont hear any conversation about failures from the folks who want reinstate the Oakland Police commission has scheduled a town hall meeting seeking the communitys input. Whether or not former police chief Leronne Armstrong get his job back shortly after taking office earlier this year. Oakland mayor sheng thao fired armstrong following an investigation by a law firm hired by a federal monitor overseeing opd found that the chief failed to discipline an officer for misconduct. Former general counsel of the oakland naacp, Robert Harris makes the case for being in favor of the Police Commission, including armstrong at the top of the list of candidates for his old job. The arrest was made by the contra costa internet crimes against children. Task force after a social Media Company notified authorities of child abuse material being shared on the platform. And according to the das office, she was working as a nanny for the victims family at the time of her arrest, they say after authorities were tipped off, a search warrant was issued it has been served. And during that search, Law Enforcement found equipment that she used in the production and distribution of those pornographic images. Her bail has been set at 700,000. But anyone with relevant information on this case is asked to contact the contra costa district attorneys office. Police are searching for 13 yearold boy who was reported missing in union city. But anyone with information about this, 13 yearold is asked to Contact Union city police. Con fire now investigating a grow house fire that set off loads of ammo overnight in antioch. It happened around 10 on now way just a few blocks away from kaiser permanente, the Medical Center there. Fire crews were forced to stay outside of the building as ammo was heard going off inside the house, according to officials, the house was not occupied. No injuries have been reported. Sports news website, the athletic, the owner of the Golden State Warriors could be close to bringing a w nba team to the bay area. The team will reportedly play games here at the chase center in San Francisco. But practice at the warriors facility in oakland. The wnba currently has 12 teams spread out around the country. League is looking to add 2 expansion teams by 2025 so far there has not been any official announcement about bringing the wnba to the bay area and negotiations on a deal reportedly still ongoing outside the chase center on thursday. The idea of a womens team here in the bay area was welcome news. The thing cool. I think thats cutting. A womans to womens sports should get more recognition and chase enters a good venue. And i think india solid thing for the community. Water reasons. A Bay Area Team would be california second joining the los angeles sparks. Well be right back we seem to be headed towards a federal Government Shutdown. Congress is stuck in a heated fight over how to fund the government. The deadline is on sunday. Washington correspondent Hannah Brandt explains why lawmakers have not found a solution yet. Right now a lot of the holdup is on the house side. The senate is working on a shortterm funding bill that leaders confident will pass, but they need the house on board in order to avoid a shutdown. In just days the federal government will run out of money and congress doesnt have a funding plan yet. Buckle up. This turbulence. Senators from both parties are working on a shortterm bill to fund the government until november 17th. It would also give 6 billion dollars to ukraine and at 6 billion dollars to us disaster relief. The senates Top Republican Mitch Mcconnell says its a simple choice shut down. The government will keep the government open. Up until november, the 17th. And give us a chance to continue resolve. A number of the appropriation issues. But many in the republican controlled house are against sending more money to ukraine. Congressman Byron Donalds says the senate bill has no chance. I think is that over here you can House Speaker Kevin Mccarthy is trying to get republicans to Work Together to pass their own shortterm funding bill. He says theyre hoping to vote soon on legislation that would make deep cuts to federal funding and strengthen Border Security were bringing up on friday ability to fund the government. But at the same time, secure our border. So, yes, were doing our job, but even thats not guaranteed to pass in the house because not all republicans supported like congressman andy ogles. As of right i and will remain and if they do pass it, the bill is likely to fail in the democrat majority senate. The only way out of the shutdown is bipartisanship. A shutdown would delay paychecks for millions of federal workers close down a lot of federal offices and stop some government services. Literally so far we have received the statement from sf fleet week. The association saying, quote, San Francisco fleet week is standing by to take guidance from the navy and other military partners. Currently our staff are continuing to plan as usual for the greatest fleet week ever. Well make adjustments as needed as we receive guidance 10 years ago, a very similar situation sideline fleet week in San Francisco. Congress not able to get a budget together and that left the navy no choice but to cancel the air show as well as all the tourists that take place on those big ships. White officials are saying 13,000 air Traffic Controllers and 50,000 tsa officers would have to work without pay. Well, new jersey democratic senator bob menendez has pleaded not guilty to federal charges in a case that accuses him of pocketing bribes of cash and gold bars. Heres video of him leaving manhattan federal courthouse shortly after entering that plea. Prosecutors say that he used his political influence to secretly advance egyptian interests to do favors for local businessmen. The accusations are causing some Democratic Senators to call for menendez to step down from his position. The senator has said that the allegations are baseless. He says he is confident he will be exonerated as he has no intention of leaving the senate. A new york judge has found former President Trump and his adult sons liable for fraud. He has canceled excuse me that judge canceled the trump organizations business or sir tickets. The judge ruled that Financial Statements that the trumps provided to lenders and insurers for roughly a decade were false and that the trump family repeatedly engaged in fraud. The ruling comes days before the civil case is set to go to trial. New yorks attorney general is seeking 250 Million Dollars in damages and a ban on the trumps from serving as officers of any new york business. The city of gilroy is responding to a local Firefighter Union after it asked officials from more staffing last week. The labor Union Representing the firefighter says that the lack of staffing at the santa teresa district fire station is putting the community at risk. The city says their contract with the labor union calls for 9 firefighters on duty. 24 7, 7 days a week. That is what 24 7 means. And it is up to the management to make sure the coverage is spread throughout the city where needed. They say the santa teresa station only handle 6 of the city service to man. So there is no need for fully staffed station. The city council is set to discuss this issue at its meeting in a week on tuesday. The first of thousands of residents who lost their homes in those wildfires that destroyed the hawaii town of la hina returned to their devastated properties this week. People were given protective suits and face masks to stop them from breathing in the ash and the potentially a dangerous debris being exposed to it. Only a few 100 properties have been cleared for reentry so far. Officials Say Mental Health professionals are helping those returning to process their grief. But as washington correspondent Alexandra Limon reports, the legislation still faces a long road ahead. Some form of marijuana use is legal in most states. But under federal law, its still illegal for a bank to provide services to marijuana businesses. This is absolutely a raise in this day in age that these legitimate businesses where half states have made this decision that they cannot bank with financial institutions, democrats like nevada senator catherine cortez, masto and Senate Leader Chuck Schumer strongly backed the proposal dubbed the safer banking at dealing only in cash stifles these businesses growth opens them up to so many risks. Democrats have been fighting for marijuana banking legislation for about a decade. And while this bill didnt advance with some republican support. Marijuana is still illegal under federal law. And that makes republican senator mike rounds uncomfortable. The bill would give special protections to businesses conducting a federally illicit activity. And democratic georgia senator Raphael Warnock says the bill is deeply troubling. Cool. Does this socalled . Safer banking bill actually make safer . So a member of the Boogaloo Boys has now been convicted of murder and attempted murder stemming from that shooting of 2 oakland security guards in 2020.
