This target here behind me in pittsburgh is the largest location here in the bay area that is closing. You can see all of these cars in the parking lot behind me here soon. Come the end of october. All of these people have to go to antioch for their nearest target location. Target said in a statement they cannot keep operating these stores because of theft and organized retail crime. They say they feel both their team and the guests are at risk and its contributing to an unstable business. Target says they made attempts to stop the thieves, but they were unsuccessful. Target is closing their stores on folsom street in San Francisco, on broadway, in oakland and here in pittsburgh, the 3 Bay Area Stores arent the only ones that are closing target. Also closed 3 stores in portland, oregon, 2 in seattle and one in east harlem, new york. The stores will close by october. 21st, even with these closures, target still has 32 stores in the San Francisco bay area. The owners there blame neighborhood crime. People in attendance say they are worried about their customers being robbed and the sidewalks cars being broken into and Violent Crime in general. Theyre begging city leaders to do more. Tuesdays Early Morning traffic fatality in san jose is a unique one for police to investigate. It was in a parking lot, not a roadway and early in the morning when theres not a lot of traffic, a person getting struck and killed by a vehicle is an all too common headline in san jose. Will shes taking a different approach to try to encourage sobriety she announced plans today that would require people who suffer from drug addiction to be screened and treated before they can receive certain funds from the city. On aside, the mon ian has details. San Francisco Mayor london breed says far too many people are refusing available help and are dying from drug overdoses. So its time for a new approach. Shes proposing a requirement for people to be screened to prove that theyre addicted to drugs and they would have to start treatment. People are not accepting help. And so now its time to make sure. That were cutting off resources that continue to allow this behavior to occur with out the economy, without someone involved in a Treatment Program that could lead to a better life. The Human Services agency that oeersees the Financial Assistance program says this applies only to single adults between 18 and 65 years. Old who deal with dependence on drugs and do not have children. And right now about 5200 people are receiving the Cash Payments anywhere between 10700 per month as it stands today, people qualify for that money by self declaring that theyre suffering from Substance Abuse disorder. Supervisor matt dorsey, who has dealt with addiction himself is in support of mayor breeds propose changes. We also know the course of interventions can work. This approach reflects a key principle in the National Institute on drug abuse. The treatment doesnt needs to be voluntary. To work, mayor breed needs to introduce the resolution and a majority of the board of supervisors would have to vote in favor for it to pass. He announced the department of justice is awarding more than 300 Million Dollars in Grant Funding focused on enforcement awareness and prevention. But republican lawmakers say the Biden Administration is not tough enough on the illegal drug market. Numbers are going up. They went up to 111,000 last year from 109,000. Need to put pressure on mexico to discontinue to disrupt the cartels to be able to stop that flow of those chemicals. Critics are also calling on Law Enforcement to do more to crack down on illegal drugs.
