Idea of what happened this morning. Michael. Yeah, you know, apparently all happened around 8. 15, this morning. Take a look. This is oconnor park in san jose. And just to give you some cross streets, rauf of meridian in between meridian avenue and race street and first major crossing nearby as west san carlos. According to officials, one of their officers was shot at some point. And from what we understand right now, they had responded to a Domestic Violence call. And as of right you know, that office down plus it was alleged. Female officer that has not been comes from. The officers that are their here in masses. Okay, michael, were going to. Were going to jump in here because were having some audio issues. Youre kind of clutching out. Well try to get that resolved. But as michael was saying was about 8. 15, this morning that officers responded to one of the apartments there at this complex surrounding oconnor park. Apparently domestic disturbance when they approached the front door not to make contact. Thats when from what witnesses say a single shot was fired by the person inside striking a female officer who was responding. That female officers we understand has been taken to the hospital, being treated. We have no update yet on the condition of that officer the neighbors have been evacuated in the immediate area surrounding and weve seen a large Police Response to that park. Dozens of patrol kunitz with many more officers and swat teams mobilizing outside. And what now appears to be somewhat of a standoff situation with the because we understand from the person who lives next door. The neighbor says that that the person who lives the couple that lives in that apartment has not come out. So all we know at this point is it appears to be a standoff with heavy Police Presence, at least 24 cop cars, swat team dogs helicopter overhead circling the area showing that this this guy who was in the apartment definitely surrounded. So theyre trying to get him to come out and a few. I think we have our connection issue result with michael is trying to back out there live again and get the latest from you, michael, there at the scene. Yes, i am here at the scene and bear with were going you know, hes going to turn the camera you can see a little bit. You know, neighbors tell me ultimately that they been evacuated that side of the building and hopefully you can still hear me in this connection. But take a look at birds are just coming out of their apartment. Now theyre starting to put up this police tape. And again, from what we understand from officer was shot at the apartment as they were going to respond to that Domestic Violence call. Thats also what officials tell us. And neighbors are still just waking up from all of this. Take a look. Were moving over you can get a better shot of where were headed this entire 3rea that youre looking at has been evacuated. This is an apartment that ive been up and were going to or you can see where these officers directly are. Theres been a handful or so that have been going towards that entry of that that building, i should say. But theres also many others on the opposite end as well. Right . We know exactly what apartment is surrounded because you talk to the neighbor who lives next door. And the Police Wanted to make sure that his apartment was empty. Hes not in their age of his kid to school and hasnt been back since and now theyve surrounded that apartment and hopefully they can resolve this without anybody else being hurt. Have you seen any other swat . Team members mobilizing or that last time visited with the was at i saw them moving. I did see one more swat team mobilized and theyre starting to, you know, like i said, wrap things often disclose this to a specific area, but multiple swat to come here on to the scene along with canine units building we have not seen yet is any type of ems and hopefully our signal is well. So we can here is were going to stabilize a little bit more. Ive got a neighbor here. Were not going be able put him on camera right now. Let me see if i can move him way, sir, you live. Not too far from exactly where all of this happened. Correct. Can you talk a little bit about what exactly happened, what you know, kurt . Yeah. Approximately 8. 16 i had left and i heard that officers had showed up at this residence and told the guy to come out. And then at that time, my neighbor actually saw. Shoot a Police Officer. And then at that it escalated from all the cops showed up. And you live you live. You said about 2 units away or so correct . Yeah, i love. I love right. And what can you tell us about what you know about the people that live inside that actually, you know, you mentioned early i had met the woman. A couple years ago, i met her and introduced myself and i think she had a guy with the right. I think it was her and her husband lived there. So i think it was a couple. And do you happen to know it all . You have you the shot happened inside . The actual apartment was out that were going i think it had to happen outside. They were calling him to come outside. Then they they told me he shot it. So i think he had come out to shoot anybody. Thank you so much for chatting with us. Were going turn the camera back over towards that area where we see Police Officials and like, like i said earlier, you know, from what weve gathered, it was a Domestic Violence call. They arrived here on the scene. At some point something happened and that person that they were going to. Confront were still trying to find out more if it was if theres anybody thats barricaded inside or if theres any type of other situations. But police have not confirmed that with this yet. And im trying to get in contact with them. But from where they have us right here, theres nobody for a point of contact from Police Officials started. James, i dont know if you guys have anything more that youre getting on gore and maybe. No. Just just what you said. You know, it was tweeted out by the police that an officer was shot and that this is an active situation and to avoid the area and the way that theyve got you and the other neighbors roped off and away it doesnt seem like the danger is near you, obviously. So they have the area that theyre concerned with evacuated. And there trying to handle the situation. Yeah, you know, neighbors again and this is not been confirmed. Neighbors say that. After that did the shot is still be inside . Again, that has not been confirmed, but police. Thats just what that neighbor there told us. But i will say is swapped out here. Shields. Its in the head after is out been doing so for the last 30 minutes or i okay. I will send it back to you right now in a case point what hes saying, the evidence backing that up. But were going to keep monitoring the situation. And everybody is safe at the moment. And that officer was rushed to the hospital. By the way, we dont know their condition soon as we find out anything on that front. Its the first day of school for kids in the San Francisco Unified School District. So some a lot of excitement on that front. But theres a problem. Theres a Teacher Shortage and it affecting at least one school kron fours will tran has the very latest now from San Francisco. Were at william cobb elementary and the students are inside the classrooms. So either teachers, this is a problem facing not just San Francisco Unified School District but School Districts across the country. Now, let me show you video of the students and the parents arriving. There was so happy were talking about 50,000 students coming back to school this morning for San Francisco Unified School District. A lot of them are new and they will see their teachers for the first time and returning students. Many of them wont be seeing their teachers again because a lot of them have left the profession. You know, i can tell you from 2019 to 2021 across the country about 233,000 teachers left the industry for many issues, including behavioral issues inside the classrooms, strict hours, not feeling supported the pandemic. And that is why School Districts across the country are scrambling to get their hands on teachers to get them inside the classroom. Abraham lincoln high school, a few miles from this location. They are already dealing with the problem and they sent out notices. So the parents that classes like spanish english, biology, they are having problems as well. We got a chance to talk to the superintendent. Heres what he had to say about trying to hire more teachers. You dont know exactly how many teachers you need until all the numbers to calibrate it. Right . So we know its its very small percentage of teachers. But seeing exactly shows up and then well be able place teachers where needed and they will have an exact count of how many more. That i necessarily so at this point he doesnt know when to a little bit down the road, just how many students and teachers. Well make up the full pot. So in the meantime, as far as Abraham Lincoln and im sure other schools as well, they will have administrator ys and substitute teachers inside the classrooms to meet the needs of the students. But he also says this is not a problem just for San Francisco, but a little bit. Something is unique to San Francisco, the pay and they have resources to try to get those teachers to entice them to come to San Francisco because lets face it this city a little bit costlier than other places that might also try to lure teachers to come to their school district. All right, 10 11 and the big story is unfolding right now in were back 10, 14 is the time. And again, the breaking news, if youre just joining us, is a Police Involved shooting in san jose where we understand an officer has been shot, right . They were taken to the hospital. We dont know their condition and were not sure. But it appears that the suspect may be holed up and this is something Michael Thomas is following live at the scene, talking to neighbors and waiting for the official word. Whats going on, michael . Yeah, hi, everyone. You know, this is right here at oconnor park. Take a look. This has been going on for more than an hour. According to neighbors here. Theyve here at the scene since about 8. 15, this morning. We do officer was shot at some point. And historian james mentioned astros. Somebody is still inside. We do not know. All we can is that there are multiple dozens of Police Officers here on the scene. Got the helicopter looks like theres actually 2 helicopters now, one that i can see is a police helicopter. The other i cannot confirm is that is it that theyre flying in circling around us. Neighbors have been evacuated from nearby residents. One gentleman that i spoke with say that says that the officer was shot as they were trying to get somebody out of the apartment. That was a Domestic Violence call that did respond to. Thats what according to officials that they tell us. And i just got word from one Police Officer. Somebody is going to come over and speak with me at some point. And again, its still a very, very active scene. I mean, you can see here weve got police all edges of this location. The park is centered in the middle of a complex on one side. Youve got meridian avenue. The other side. Youve got ray street and its right near a safe way as well. I mean, if we exit this parking continue to go straight down, you would walk the parking lot of a safeway that sits right off of west carlos street along with meridian avenue. So to very high traffic area. And a lot of these roads are already closed off. Little bit more since you spoke to weak guy who lives nearby. Yeah. Who was just out dropping his kids off to school and came back. Can yoh tell us what he said with his firsthand account and also what his neighbors saw. From what he tells me, you left to go take a child to school around 8. 15, or so. And he says at that point he had already seen Police Officers coming this way to enter into this complex. And at that point, he says when he got back a few minutes later, this is exactly what it looked like this life scene that youre seeing now. I this is only in the center of the park when we go and take a lap around the entire complex. I mean, theres officers all and the of of this location as medical services. We did not see any medical services here when we arrived. But keep in mind, i didnt arrive until about an hour or so later. Theyre holding a press conference in the next 15 minutes hoping to get more at well, the one 0nd we actually have a neighbor speaking to you this morning. We will. We queue that up. Lets listen. My neighbor, he said that. Cops came to the door this morning and they said jose, come out. And at that point he shot a female officer. And im not sure how bad she was injured. And ive asked them shes going to be ok and they said they dont know the my neighbor said that he saw the guy looking out the window and he saw my neighbor and then he closed the blinds. So it looks like hes still in the okay. So youre going to get the update on that, michael. When you spoke to me said it looked like the suspect was still hold out. Yeah, it looks like were trying to pan up so you can see these help. They continue to circle and you know, and that neighbor is still here because he cant get back into his home, his home. You know, hes been evacuated along with multiple others on that side of the complex. Your microphone is it working great. Were going to stick with this because were getting lots of information with you, which is great. Not only have you seen. Tell us about how many cop cars that the and and about the special force. You know, team thats there as well. Guess even the dogs, what was going on there . Yeah. Can you can you hear me . We this is a good okay. Perfect. Perfect. So you know, when it comes to the numbers, i mean. Gosh, we just lost michael. Okay. And in the video froze as well. Were going to go back out and get you more information very shortly because in about 10 minutes are going press conference. They are. And thats what were anticipating happening around 10, 30 our time. We have kron fours theresa stasi headed there. So well get that signal set up and bring that to you when it happens. Here again is video from oconnor park where you can see the the crime scene tape. Thats up the police tape with all those cruisers. When we chatted earlier with michael, he said he saw what looked to dozens of police cruisers. You can only imagine the number of officers then that are on scene. He saw what by his count, perhaps too swat team unit. So they really did mobilize a big response here in the wake of this officer being shot by a suspect at this apartment. There in san jose at oconnor park where theyve responded, as michael said, about 8. 15, or so this morning to reports of a domestic, disturbance call. And it was on approaching the apartment that they, according to neighbors, the officers knocked on the door, asked. One of the people inside to come out and then shortly after a neighbor reported hearing a single gunshot. And then we got confirmation from the Police Department that it was one of their officers who was shot according to the witness. There was a female officer that officer taken to a local hospital. Were still waiting for an update on that officers condition. But as we see typically in situations where an officer is shot while on duty, you get a response like this where police units respond from all over as a sort of an all hands on deck situation to try to resolve whatever the issue is that caused that officer to be shot. Right. And last word, as we heard from a neighb r saying that they saw that suspect still in the home. So police seem to be acting in accordance with as you can see that they have that whole apartment surrounded the block cordoned off. Theyre showing that got a, you know, a cordoned off area that theres nowhere to go for this man to come out, that theyve choppers in the air and theyre going to give us an update in about 10 minutes and tell us more about the situation. If the public were at risk, they would be telling schools to lock down nearby. They would be telling people there and theyre not doing that. Theres god is very focused on this area that theyre concerned with right. So more on this to come. A clearly stay with us. Again, were expecting that press conference going to wait about 10 minutes. Well bring that to you. In the meantime, second weather. Yeah, 10 20 is the time right now. And if youre heading out to work or school, looks like its going to be a repeat of yesterday. Pretty hot. Yeah, were heating up out there already. It was definitely a hot day yesterday. If you stepped outside inland, you broke a sweat pretty quickly as you were doing. So and today were in for another day that has that very similar feel to it. Now this morning, things are a little bit different. A lot clear. A lot calmer out there so far. What weve got is a lot of sunshine across. Not just this quite our view, but across the bay area in general. Lets get a look at our current temperatures. Things are on the rise already right now. Brent, would youre on the cusp of hitting 90 degrees spots like calistoga already there up in the north bay. Well, a lot more moderated closer to the bay shore and the coastline in the 60s for spots like San Francisco, oakland and berkeley. So heating up inland, mild towards the coast. Thats kind of the story all day long today as we are going to see that cool coastal breeze present. No chance of thunderstorms this afternoon for inland areas. We did see some of those yesterday morning. We do have some convection thats thunderstorm formation going on south of bakersfield in the Central Valley as well as out in the sierra nevada. Its been quite the active week for Southern California and the sierra. Well, comparatively quiet for the bay. We just had the muggy and hot field. Now as we push through this forecast today, we stay cool at the coast. A few clouds here and there at the coastline. Well, maybe too much sunshine inland where temperatures will be so warm this afternoon moving into tomorrow morning. We are going to see some cloud cover drifting across the bay area. This is going to help to keep temperatures tomorrow. Just a few degrees cooler than today. So a gradual cooling trend ahead of us. Todays daytime highs will be in the 60s and 70s at the coast. 80s for the bayshore 90s to even some triple digits inland lake over an antioch in vacaville. Our next 7 days, temperatures will gradually decline. This is going to get us to seasonable warmth come the weekend with upper 80s to low 90s for inland spots and 70s by the bay. Stay with us. From the area with the latest michael. Hi, everyone. Im in a camera so we can just focus on the scene they are looking at. This is right in the middle of oconnor park. It sits between meridian avenue and race street. Its also right below west san carlos here, safeway here in san jose. And, you know, according to officials, there has been one officer that was shot. They responded to a domestic call at this location here. Residents in this complex have been evacuated on that side of the area that youre looking at. Weve got helicopters that are swarming the area and all 4 streets surrounding this complex. And this park you know, have officers at each comes to meridian avenue. Its closed off completely. I spoke with officials earlier. We did not have much to tells. But historian james mentioned in the next 5 minutes or so. Weve got a press conference coming up. As of right now, neighbors are still, you know, around this area. Spoke with one gentleman earlier. He tells me that he lives about units from the location of where everything happened. And he says that officers called him. They asked him to you know, hes home at that point. They want to make sure that nobody was in there has to what is going on inside that at the location of where the shooting happened. Were still trying to get details from that. But we dont know if anybody is inside that has not been confirmed. But from the looks of you know, weve got swat team out here. You can see people that are with their guns and everything. So its still very, very active scene. Dar and james and weve got another crew on the other side of the park ready for that press conference will bring that to you live as soon as it 10 29, we want continue our live coverage of whats going on in san jose after an officer was shot earlier this morning responding to a Domestic Violence call. Weve got crawfords Michael Thomas standing by live at the scene. And while were chatting with michael, a remind everybody, we are waiting for a press conference which is scheduled to happen right now. From San Jose Police with more detail. So at some point, michael, if we cut away from you to go to that, thats why. But go ahead, bring everybody up to speed on what you understand happened earlier this morning. I think, yeah, hi, everyone. Im gonna steal cam right now so we can give you this live look. But from understanding, this all started around 8. 15, this morning at oconnor park. Now oconnor park is in the middle of an apartment complex in this complex. Its between meridian avenue and race street in san jose. Right above that is west san carlos street. Theres a safe way right there from what weve gathered so far. It looks like San Jose Police responded to a domestic call here at this location which point an officer was when we arrived here around 9. 15, there was no mention of them legends. The medical here. At that time we spoke with neighbors who are about 2 to 3 doors down, but tell that they were leaving around 8. 15 or so that point, they had already saw that police were heading in. I mean, in the senior looking at right now, this isnt a paved road at all. This is in the middle of a park in the middle of an apartment complex. And were talking about dozens of Police Officials on them all and of this complex. They did start throw things off. Isis want team here. The helicopter is surrounding the year and police are still arriving at this point. I mean, theyve got all of their gear on. We dont know if anybody is still inside the apartment. We have not confirmed that as of yet. But i will say that we do see swat team here with all of year and there is a heavy Police Presence over towards where that apartment or town, whatever it may is that specific unit and most information we got was from a neighbor. He says that he we have been told that, you know, they cant go back into their their home at this time. And theyre asking people also to just really stay away from this area. Investigators are interviewing other neighbors nearby that we can see here. But its still a very, very active scene. Certainly looks like sounds like it to weaken here that chopper overhead. So although it may be that they have this pretty much cornered in that apartment. It still appears as though theyre not taking any chances. They still have a lot of resources surrounding the area. Both on the ground and up above i guess the big question and, you know, saw canine units. Will anybody in k 9 units come in and is ending the big . I the People Living area is in sight. Is there anybody right . And is anybody in danger in any way . And i mean, theyre letting you get as close as you are to to these, you officers with big guns and shields and everything else. It does look like they have the situation under control, but its clearly not resolved. Again, no, absolutely. Its definitely not result. They did ask the gentleman that i spoke with earlier. I to to give your time frame of when you can come back and he just said, no, not as of right now. So hes, you know, essentially out of his home right now, that whole side that youre looking at right now, they are all out of their me to see officers that continue to walk down over towards homes that youre looking but behind that looks like theres possibly a game where, you know, people would park their cars into an apartment. And theres also a lot of officers on that and as and when youre talking to the neighbors there out that. Go ahead. Ok, im just going to say conversations with that neighbor earlier. I mean, were looking at the shot, beautiful part. Theres a childrens play area there. He himself. He said taking his now we can get back in to his apartment. What has there been history violence in this area come as a shock to him. What did he tell you about that . Yeah, but you know, i mean, from what he tells me, hes lived here for more than 20 years. He said hes never seen anything like that happened here. You know, i did ask if you knew anything about those individuals who lived or worked in that unit at that specific time. He tells me for what he knows. It was a male and a female that lived there and that all he knows is it is a 2 bedroom unit. So he he doesnt know too too much about them. But i mean, from my understanding and hes not the only person but other neighbors have come up and ask whats going on and said that it that theres never been anything like this that happened at this complex, right . I think the most telling thing we heard really that ground and setting the right. What we heard from you youre talking to the neighbor, the most telling thing about the situation right now is that one neighbor says that they saw. The guy who lives in there. Look out the window. See everything thats going on and then pull curtains again. By all indications season is in sight. And thats something thats going to you know, were going to get details about that about that condition of the officer. We hope to know that and a lot more know whats going on from police instead of just from neighbors. It within moments weve got another live crew station just shortly. Just pretty close to where you are on the other side of the park. Ready for that press conference. Whatever happens, you know, just reading michael, the body language of the officers off in the distance that we can see in this camera perspective. They dont look like theyre in, you know, any sort of liked urgent stance. Its presume then that they do feel suspect theyre looking for is cornered in that apartment. They dont feel like theres a risk of him wandering around having escape. Theyre not looking for him. It doesnt appear to be. Correct. And i will say when we arrived here, you know, just over an hour ago about 9. 15, or so at that point, these cruisers that youre know that the cameras on right now were going significantly fast pulling into this park. I mean, you know, you can hear the tires, screech marks and then also them hopping out of the car immediately putting their gear on pulling out their canine dogs. At one point, they even had a step back because they had to get their dogs out. But they were in such a rush russian such urgency to get over to that scene. And keep in mind, thats more than an hour or so after what neighbors tell us. This all started when i was on my way here, you know, in the streets, there were multiple police units that were driving past with their sirens on. So at that point, there was an urgency. Does seem that things have started to calm down as of now. But that helicopter continues to circle and circle this entire area. And this gentleman that walk past a screen, you know, hes one of the investigators. Hes talking some neighbors that are nearby. And, you know, behind me, also got a couple of other officers that are blocking people from going over to this area thats completely closed off. Its interesting, michael. And and, you know, while were chatting with you, im just going to bring up for viewers at home and read the tweet that was sent out by san jose pd earlier this morning in which they confirmed that the time of the call. That they received was 7. 57. This morning, a call came into 911, this domestic disturbance. And the tweet reads, officers are currently in the area of oconnor park where you are, michael, for report of a family disturbance upon arrival. Officers come to a contact residents at the door and immediately began taking gunfire resulting in an officerinvolved shooting. They go on to tweet. We can confirm that an officer was shot by the suspect and has been transported to a local hospital. This is still an active scene. Please avoid the area. We will provide updates as they become available. And again, we are waiting, as mentioned a moment ago for that press conference, too happened. It was scheduled for 10, 30. Theyre clearly running a little behind schedule, putting together the information they want to release to the public right now. Maybe well get some sort of indication as to whether or not the situation is resolved is the suspect in custody or are they still holed up in that apartment . Well have to wait to see what they say. Are you . Have you heard anything else from the neighbors who are evacuated . Michael . Know, and i was just going to add to what james was saying, you when it comes to the amount of shots, one neighbor says that the only heard one gunshot. So if there were multiple, thats, you know, were hoping to learn that at the press conference. But neighbors tell me that as of right now, the only recall hearing one gunshot. So if it was multiple, you know, time will tell for us and also hopefully well get more information as to if there is somebody insider why this scene is still so heavily but i mean, it started said before, you know, when we see these type of situations, especially with the helicopters swarming in going in circles, it normally does point the case over to somebody is still inside or theyre at least actively looking for a suspect. Right. And the idea would be, you know, even if theyre inside and watching tv, theres clearly no where to go. I mean, theyre showing you. Theyve got dozens of officers surrounding this whole area that blocks are cordoned off. Theres nowhere to go that i understand that highway exit to a is closed blocked off to where you are to try to get where you are. Michael and so is theres no way in or out, correct. No there. There really isnt. And i mean, when i tell you that there are officers all 4 of these main streets, i mean, from the entrance that i had went through when i pulled up, there was 8 officers on one street and then there was vehicles on the opposite street. So again, and have mentioned before, i dont know how many san jose Police Officers there are, but i would say at least half if not majority of them are here at this scene right now. And theyre actually there telling somebody to come out. Theyre using the microphone and try to listen to whats going in the camera over there. Give me just a second and hear they are asking somebody to come out. Take a listen. Telling them to keep coming. Coming out. I can. The person is coming out with their hands up. In the back area. We cannot see that from here. If we can move we can hear appears that a person is and yeah, there is a person that is coming out. Shes exiting the parking lot near the gates to this entrance and its hard for you guys to see from where we are in the only way that im able to see it walking this site area. You say its little turning a better vision is coming out i a woman or man. I cannot tell i i i cannot tell if it was a woman or a man. I can only see that they walked out of the parking lot of this with hands up and officials were yelling, put your hands up and immediately came out with their hands up. So i cannot see because all cruisers that are blocking. But i did see a person walked by with their hands in the air. They were wearing a black shirt and it looks like g everybody is now scattering. So. You can see that there. Running over towards this end. So im gonna send it back to you guys. To the 1300 block monterey avenue for a report of a family disturbance. Shortly after arrival officers made contact at the residence immediately began taking fire from the suspect. One officer was hit by gunfire. Transported to a local hospital for that injury. We do not have an update on the officers injury at this time. We believe the suspect is contained. However, the suffolk is not yet in custody. It is an active scene. Were asking media anybody that is in the area to please avoid the area, including helicopters, people traffic and pedestrian traffic. At this point time, we dont have a whole lot of information, but id be happy to take anybodys were still no active investigation. We dont have an entire town of whats inside apartment there of the no, not going to at this point, im only have one option that has led by with an were still trying to determine whether or not there is any return part. You have its still too early to this is the initial up. They were trying to get all of our Media Partners because i know theres a lot of speculation about what happened is a lot of Police Presence. Within the next hour or so as we get updates will be providing them on twitter to make sure that everybody has an update as we get however, later in the day when hopefully this is all resolved, we should be able to give you an update on officers injuries as well as custody status of the what . Were not giving up the offer, the officers privacy, were could find with hospital the officer we also asked if any Media Partners the hospital, the plea not overwhelm them because right now our focus is making sure the officers getting taken care worst. Were to me as were still trying to figure that out. Were not sure its still really early. Scene is still very no suspects not yet theres going to a family disturbance. I dont have a whole lot of details on what the family disturbance was. Had to do family some type of guy to crossing it were still trying to confirm all the actual details. We do know for a fact that officer was shot. As they approached we dont have those particular at this point again toward the end today. Hopefully we should have much larger out to about whats actually been done. We just want to let everybody know this is a very active scene, really hoping that people can just a number with our Media Partners because were getting a pass as the cases, the office, the suspect not yet container custody, me to make sure were able to into the safe location safe and able to provide you with an actual update on where we are in the investigation. Responded i dont have the actual numbers coming from we dont have that information they evacuated. The neighbors have been evacuated, but were still working whether or not more evacuations are necessary. Take over it happened confirming now is a resident specifically because active investigations active be more than happy to give you guys more particulars once the scene is i cant guarantee that we have the that we believe the suspect contained within are seeing thats what we believe cracked. First, it was more a j or g e lasting jimmy g a r i we have to the negotiating as we have our swat team. We have Crisis Intervention Team here and we have spent several other units that are special operations was the majority of our investigations teams here as well to make sure that we put everything i im not sure we not been able to list their weve been dealing with media. So i dont a ton of particulars nor what i know by be able to share that at this time because were still in the middle of trying resolve this. You know, with we dont have the particulars on point where are. Big where where they are right now. When i dont know the situation actually holding at the residents. You have a Better Vantage Point of the apartment and whats actually going on and tell us more about what you saw unfolding with somebody coming and the police bringing them out. Hi, everyone. You know, well, were going to focus right now. Were going to move the camera a little bit over towards these 2 buildings. So this person who exited and they were yelling, you know, hat, the police were yelling at them to put their hands up. They did come out with their hands up. Saw with my own eyes. They exited one of these 2 buildings at that point. Once that person was captured by police, multiple swat unit ran over to that red home and that teal home that you see there. And, you know, they were at the front door. One of them did circle back around to the back. And so i would assume behind this building that youre looking at these homes is a street where everybody parked their car. So i would assume that that is where police were also station because they went running from this and over to the other end. But just about 10 minutes ago or so that person who exited the building did come out with their hands up. I know you guys are asking if it was a male or female. I could not tell from my vantage point, i can only see their hands and the top of their head. I did see that were wearing a black shirt, but they did come out from what i could see peacefully with their hands up. And you know, gave themselves into police custody. At the end of that driveway there that youre looking and but again, that the helicopters still surrounding around and police at that point kind of scattered all throughout to go. I would assume to go into the home through the back area. But we have people come running over this way to try to enter through the front well. All right. And we believe that they were responding to a Domestic Violence, call it that at that unit. And that a man and a woman live in that unit and we dont know who came out, but they were urgently. And when you heard him shout, that was an urgent. Put your hands up. Put your hands up and and it sounded very tense. Absolutely. And yeah, and you know, which also makes sense as to why they had not gone into are they were not behind because again, behind these homes, there is a street where people park their car part of the complex. But police were kind of gathered at that area. And as you said, daria, you know, neighbors tell us neighbor that lives 2 units down from the unit that they were currently at. From what he knows. Its a 2 bedroom and there are 2 people that live there. A male and female as to who may be the person behind the gun. We dont know if it was the male or the female, but they are. And we still actually, you know, i want just point out, he says that 2 people had lived there. I did only see from my vantage 0. 1 person come out. There may have been another. That was just not for my view, then a viewpoint that i could see, but because its helicopters still circling around, and the police to we just got the update from the other side of the park. Michael. And the officer said the situation is not resolved yet, but they were hoping to resolve it. And that there was somebody the suspect was but not yet the custody. So if you saw somebody come presumably it was not the gunman holed up. So presumably maybe the other person. Yeah, which its. Exactly. And that would also make sense again. I could not see if it was a male or a female. I can only see their hands in their head. It appeared that the person had a bit longer hair. But i cannot confirm that i only really just saw their hands and their black shirt. But if there still could be another person inside, especially peerys. Tell us 2 people there. I only saw one person come out. We still have this heavy seen here. We also still have that helicopter circling the area right . Well, we heard from that press conference are still here gather. Yeah. Well, we heard that there were crisis negotiators obviously on scene. So hopefully that means they were able to convince whoever it is thats holed up there to let one of the people go. Thats a possible scenario that we just saw play out live on our air, leaving just the gunman by themselves in there where crisis negotiators are continuing to talk to that person and hopefully will convince person to surrender peacefully. So we can have a resolution of this. That doesnt involve any more bloodshed. And again, at the press conference, they werent even willing to say which looks like weve got more Tactical Units mobilizing moving right now. Well see what happens with that. Adding on in their yeah. The cameras that we can see exactly which area theyre going to. Take a look at. I mentioned earlier. They had all come around this way. At first, they were going over to that unit there that you see. But now theyre also focusing their time down a few units and pointing over towards another unit. Thats probably 3 or 4 down. And keep in mind earlier, the neighbor we spoke with said that police had called him on his cell phone directly to ask if there was anybody in his home, which is 2 to 3 units down from the unit where the situation happened. So it appears that theyre investigating all of these homes and neighbors tell me that they were evacuated from their homes on that side right there. You know, behind the camera, we still got a handful of neighbors who are kind of just waiting around either to get back into their homes are trying to figure out, you know whats going on. And they also tell me that, you know, some of the military for 20 years, never seen anything like this, but its its a very, very active scene. And we talk about the amount of Police Officials that are here. Again, from my point of view, weve got about 2 dozen cop cars here sitting at this park. And when i arrived at 9. 15, they were, you know, speeding in with their sirens, jumping out of thetr car, putting on their gear, grabbing their guns. And running over towards that unit. Right now, we know that one person has been taken out of the unit has with another person is still inside. We dont know. But again, that helicopter is still circling and we do still see officials with their gear on towards that. You didnt if somebody is willing to shoot an officer who come theyve got to be concerned about, you know, anyone getting near that apartment if the suspect, like they said, has not been arrested still inside of got negotiators. It got the. Theyre showing theres nowhere for you to it come out. But this person could still hurt somebody, which is why theyre keeping everybody away. I mean, thats you know, a dangerous situation. Somebody is armed and they shoot a Police Officer and theyre still there. And, you know, everybodys or risk was nearby. Thats why they everybody on the way. And and, you know, and and neighbors tell me again, this is not been confirmed, but one neighbor did say, you know, that the officer had kind of stumbled away from the apartment and kind of ran away after being shot. So hoping to get details on that and nearby from this, you know, i mean, weve got a safe way right on the other side of this park that youre looking at. Theres it goes into a parking lot of a safeway and a mcdonalds. So its a very heavy populated area. And all those mean streets right there, meridian avenue, west san carlos street completely blocked off. So weve got official cop officials, you know, on all. And i mean, were talking swat team were talking guns drawn. Were talking, you know, san jose canines out here. So thats thats thats whats going on here. Weve got our sources in the san jose pd tuna soon as we learn anything 10 55, we just want to tell you what we know so far about whats unfolding right now in san jose. You can see a a area with heavy Police Presence. And thats because earlier this morning an officer was called to a Domestic Violence call in a a a part of this apartment complex and they were shot when they told the man to come out. We do know that the area is surrounded all the way on the ground to the air as well and that somebody a suspect has not been apprehended yet, but it appears this standoff is going into now almost 3 hours. Yeah, this is at oconnor park, an apartment complex with the intersection of caribbean avenue. And as as as a wry us avenue. Everybody has been evacuated. Needs to be evacuated. We just heard that the suspect is contained but not in custody. Michael thomas confirmed for us live moments ago that somebody did come out of that apartment and was taken into custody. We presume that there were 2 people inside. Police responded to star is set to a domestic disturbance call. And if that is true, that leaves one person still in the unit that theyre trying to negotiate with. Crisis negotiators are on scene as our Tactical Units weve seen a number of them take positions around this apartment complex. Were hoping that this will get resolved shortly. The police, everybody obviously hopes that this will end peacefully. But theyre talking with that person right now trying to convince them to come out that its in their best interest to surrender to police peacefully. You know, they dont want anybody hurt be on. The one officer was already shot and is in the hospital. They Wont Disclose where the officer was taken for treatment or the condition of the at this hour. So we dont know the status of the officer was shot, but that is the only casualty at this point. And they would like this to end peacefully and have that suspect be able to come out. But at this point, theyre still theyre still negotiating. So obviously, this is still an active scene. Things developing here minute by minute. Were going to keep you updated throughout the day.
