Also has that story. The feelings that i have right now, im very heavy doctor. Mia live a day is a professor of Public Health cal state east bay. But she grew up on the island of maui where the with natural disasters in hawaii like we need to have communication. And we rely on you know, systems systems and drills, a talk and what to do in heard the emergency sirens. But during the height of the raging wildfire that bore down on maui, many residents say that they never heard that critical information ways. Attorney general has called for an investigation into the breakdown in communications. Doctor live a day says another troubling factor now landscape and how Climate Change has played a role in the devastation behind. Was initially a wetlands. It had water big fish ponds. It had it wasnt known as a dry area of the as development has happened and more helping more a condo buildings, Development Just all around the island. But in this area, specifically, weve seen a lot of that wetland, all of that wetland disappear the sugar cane industry which originally took the palm of acreage around. Now native grasslands growing all over island. So these factors all impact the ability of a Massive Wildfire to move very, very quickly under the right circumstances with really high winds. I think that thats a big part of it. And Climate Change having these big storm, having high winds is another component of she also says as the area looks to the future care needs to be taken to rebuild wisely. And with respect for the historic nature of the community, it has to be with the people who the local families who live there. We got john in the Weather Center following it all a job and thats about the only spot. Its that, too. Just sitting there. Its wanting to move further inland. But theres just enough of an offshore breeze to punch it back and keep it right at the coastline. You can see Golden Gate Park right here. The outer sunset neighborhood. And then right up against ocean beach. That fog just sitting there looking right at us, but not doing too well in trying to make its way inland. Thats because the predominant wind direction is actually pushing inland towards the shoreline. And if you look offshore, you see all that green out there. Weve actually had quite a lot of thunderstorm activity out over the pacific this morning about 100 miles west of San Francisco. Couple of isolated showers up rural areas of western marin and sonoma counties. Once you get up into the redwoods there in those coastal hillsides. Now, this low pressure area sitting to the south of us in the High Pressure to the north are both drying out this hot, dry inland air out towards the coastline. Fortunately doing so in a relatively slow pace. So not aggressive, dry, offshore winds. But as we see this low pressure moving to the north will see a shift in wind direction and this will allow that cool. Coastal air to find its way back into the bay towards the end of the week. That is going to mean today, though, is the hottest day of the forecast. Any sort of clouds moving away from the shoreline and that pushes that cool coastal airway along with it. Temperatures in San Francisco about the coolest that youre going to see some 60s from Golden Gate Park down highway one granada Half Moon Bay at 71 today about everyone else is just going to be hot. Its an interesting week because were going earnings at a home depot target and walmart. Sort of learn what the consumer is doing and how theyre feeling. Thats about 70 of our economy. As consumer spends, it helps the economy of the economy is working moving in the right direction. Then we get a good earnings to get earnings equals better stock market. So it is a kind of an interesting week for me. August has been rough, some news headlines. I think youll apple iwatch acts. I ii that tends not coming up this year. Not next month, but a year from now. And its rumored to have a sensor in it thats going help detect 4 heart attacks, pressure. And for me, i got some gray hair on my head thats so apples always thinking into the future and that to be a huge, not mover, but it shows you that they still havent lost ways. Got kawhi electric. Thats the Utility Company in hawaiis down 41 today similar to pg and e after wildfires were looking around. Trying to figure out who to blame. Still way too early in my mind to do that stock the stocks getting hit hard say, you know, related all that whenever wildfires here, you always talk about Insurance Companies getting hit hard. I can only imagine with the billions of dollars worth of damage with the insurance claims are going to be. That could be that. I mean, thats not going to be good news for anybody. Pt kind of went yeah, because wildfires in california so kauai, electric come the unfortunate in the texas. And that is because theyre lowering prices and theyre trying to compete with chinas automakers on tvs by price. Musk and his stock is getting hit today on that news. May just one market share to smart thing to do. If your tesla. Keep the market long as you can. And beyonce and taylor uber ceo said for every concert they do. Theres about 3,000 rights to the concert that just blows my mind. We cant get taylor swift out. You know, are areas tour is the stories just keep coming rolling on in. Thats pretty wild. And then want to get your take 2 on a story we did earlier about how more and more airlines are making more and more room on their aircraft for firstclass premium tickets because i guess demand for that is going up. People are willing to spend the money for what a little more leg room, a little more comfort on planes, even though were facing the financial, you know, times that were in right now. Yeah, a big summer for the airlines like american and delta are flying overseas because more americans want premium seats premium seats could just be like could be first class could be business class. They go for about 6 times as much as coach ticket. Still delta, a 9 person, the sea to 2009 were premium today. Its 28 in the next 4 years will be up to 30 . So for me to i look at as a bus in the air, i always go coach. I know its cheaper get some sort of a mileage upgrade. Im not going to do it, but its its kind of discouraging. Business class is gone for about 12. 9 to 13 and a half percent. A trip to new york is from new york to paris is 980 on a premium seats 3,015. All lot of people are spending a lot of big bucks that they should be saving. Yeah. Finding class, i guess is something you know, thats just not my taste and all likelihood, the probably putting it on a credit card to what youve always said is not. Not a good idea. Im great with credit cards. Long as payment months. Okay. Frederick, ok . All right. Now lets talk about what what else people are spending their money on, which is sports gambling. Were getting into the football season. Spring training just started our spring. Pre season just started. Youve got to imagine a Sports Betting for football is going to be huge this season. It could be a weird yes. Pms taking a stake in not Online Gambling company which just seems not great. Interesting thing, jamess parlays parlays, you can guess 4, 5 games in a row or 3 quarterbacks are going to throw for 300 yards. Its a combination of a sequence of events. He could have huge payoff, specht. Youre also losing much bigger, and thats the big cool thing right now is parley city turn on espn. Watch. They can be talking about parlays a little bit more than just picking the winner of a game that cuts the company about a 5 net profit powers of parlays. Its about 20 . So avoid parlays unless youre really trying to hit for the moon. And i dont recommend it they rarely pay at companies. These companies are doing quite well. Yeah. Yeah. Wow. Were looking outside there at your Berkeley Hills camera, which is crystal clear. We have some high clouds a lot. Thats not ocean air. Thats just the opposite. That some hot, dry inland air pushing out towards the coast. You can see on your fog tracker that fog. Its hanging out right at the shoreline. Its not making its way inland at all. And at this point, were starting to warm up under all that sunshine. Brett, would your 80 degrees right now . Alameda oakland, berkeley, youre rising through the 60s, getting close to the 70s. Michael thomas up in the newsroom to explain. Good morning, michael. Hi, good morning, everyone. It Union Officials actually just told me that the are closer to an agreement and theyre actually meeting with the city of san jose just before noon today. So hopefully we get more answers. But the strike is still planned for tomorrow. It really could shut down the city. I mean, were talking about thousands of essential workers and last week, just to give you some backstory, 99 , a 4500 San Jose City workers voted for the threeday authorized strike thats set to begin tomorrow. Currently the City Employees about 6600 workers, which means around half of them would be out there on the picket lines. This includes 911, librarians airport workers, city inspector sanitation specialist. The list really just goes on all daily jobs that make the city move in in response to the strike. You know, even the Animal Shelter there may be closed down because san jose mayor matt mahan says that the citys shutting it down would actually help with the whole threeday strike and that costs. Now, last week, the 2 sides were about 20 Million Dollars apart in salary negotiations. But union reps say the city has made a proposal and its leaning more towards what it needs. But ultimately workers say that theyre being asked to do more with less pay. Now, the mayor also did say at one point last week it is possible that the citys budget projection could be a bit too conservative. But he also adds that the city doesnt want to get itself into any debt. So as we get more answers from both sides, when they head into that meeting will keep you updated. Theyre asking for new or at least gently used items and then everythings going to be sent out next week. Still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news, the niners and the raiders facing off in the first preseason game. Were going to show you who came out on top. Plus, theres growing concern over a shortage of portable defibrillators as student athletes are playing sports in higher and higher temperatures. All right. Were back at 9. 44. And airfares are dropping apparently just in time for a school to start. The kids are in school and you cant get it right. So it always works. Latest data from travel site hopper says that the average domestic roundtrip flight now is about 257. Thats round trip. Thats down about 11 compared to this time last year. Thats the nationwide average around and i think when i flew in the heat of summer, right, like last week, more that. Yeah. The rowan beckys you to do. I think i jet feels a little bit cheaper right now. Also have a little more capacity because a lot more seats are empty. However, the seasonal dip in prices only for a short time because once the holidays come around, they go right back up, right when you can travel again during the breaks for christmas it occurs with nowhere to go. Now, i mean, here, if you want to theres as looking pretty good when you see to i usually prefer because its always sunny there a fog delays, which is not only a little cooler today. In a San Francisco sfo, oakland, all of them will have pretty good flying conditions today. But those fog think could be rough for sure. The only place were seeing fog today is right there out around ocean beach. You can see it from the suture tower right here. Theres Golden Gate Park outer sunset district. That fog is sitting right there, but its not coming our direction. In fact, weve got a pretty generous offshore flow. Thats keeping it right there at the coastline. Look at all of this action going on about 100 miles west of San Francisco. Have some thunderstorms out there this morning. As weve seen all morning long. Those are also heading away from the coastline. So wont be drifting our direction. Low pressure to the south, High Pressure to the north. And this is steering hot dry and when theyre out towards the coast, thus the modest offshore wind that we do have as this low pressure moves further northward, it will allow some of ocean cool there to slip back into the bay. And as that happens towards the end of the week, well finally see a bit of a relief from this heat. As for today, notice the direction of those clouds all heading to the west. Thats pushing that hot dry. And when theyre out towards the bay and that means were all going to be pretty warm today unless youre right along the coastline. Still some 60s and sunset district Golden Gate Park down on terra Half Moon Bay reaching the low 70s about everyone else is going to be on the hot side. Burlingame, all the way up to 88 carlos down through woodside in the 90s there on the peninsula. Well, san jose at 93 and even some triple digits. Livermore and danville, up to 100 degrees pleasanton in walnut creek. You can easily get there just a degree or 2 shy. Well, oakland up to richmond in the 70s. Your coolest spots in the east bay, antioch, vacaville and pittsburgh. Also right on the cusp of hitting the century, mark, getting up to 100 now tomorrow and wednesday. Still hot days. Maybe not quite as hot as today, but not much of a difference. Cooler weather really arrives this next weekend. It will be still seasonably warm upper 80s to low 90s inland, but that beats the triple digits and some 70s along the bay shore. Rain. All right, john, thank you for that. Lets check on highway 4. Last time we checked in, we were at about 20 minutes for your drive. Now were down to 15. So things are certainly improving antioch and to conquer the bay ridge. 17 minutes, although it looks like drive times of gone up. Still pretty quick for you to make it to that fremont street exit. 13 minutes, san mateo bridge over the east bay. 24 walnut creek down to 5. 80, just under 12 and over here along 6. 80, doubling down to fremont a little under 22 minutes. You can also see some delays along 8. 80. If you are going to be traveling to fremont county. James, back to you. Thank you. Run as 9. 40, a and the San Francisco fortyniners start off the preseason. With a loss to the Las Vegas Raiders kron. 4 sports director jason dumas says the highlights. Weve been hyping up this niners raiders matchup all weekend for good reason. Theres obviously the San Francisco oakland bay area connection. But even past that, weve got storylines aplenty. But what we got was oldfashioned behind whip in in los vegas. I have still never to this stadium. Ive only seen it from the outside. Never inside. I need to get their first drive for the niners was ugly. Here, trey lance gets sacked. He was sacked twice on the opening drive. Niners cant get anything going. On the ensuing drive, the raiders go right down the field state punching in here. The mere white makes it 7 to nothing raiders. 2nd quarter. After driving down the field. Trey lance almost get picked off. Cant make this throw sometimes left is all you all to deflection. Ross right place, right town. He scores a touchdown. Good moment for the niners. All closing had. Aidan oconnell finds keelan cole senior for the 9 yard touchdown and the raiders take the lead heading into halftime. Lets go to the 3rd graders up 10 in the niners issues continue. Sam darnold fines. Cameron lot too. And come on, man. Ball security. Turn the ball over that deep in your territory. Bad things happen. Case in point. Very next possession, sincere mccormick scores a sincere touchdown. Truly sincere. Mccormick. The raiders go on to win this one. 34 to 7, 8 feet down. Well hear from both coaches after the game. But that the defense was, you know, really connected. You know, tonight for the most part and tried to make the windows as tight as it could. Were punching stripping at the ball a bit. So thats what we want to play. And thats how we want to force the offense to, you know, drive the ball do it that way. Didnt give up a bunch of big plays good, complimentary football anytime you can turn it over and then turned those turnovers into points and be on the short field. Thats helpful. I mean, i got off to a rough start for 3, 3, an ounce for the offense, the first 3 time. So. Dont put that on trade by any that the whole offense a sloppy to start. Sloppy is an understatement.
