The damage significant with the Historic Town of la hina reduced to ashes in many places so far the death toll has grown to 53 people tonight, though, it is expected to rise as fire crews are able to search areas that were initially hard to reach because of the flames. The fires also destroyed more than 1000 structures at this hour. The fire in some spots is said to be very active in crews are still fighting an uphill battle to slow the flames. Kron fours correspondent evan lambert has the latest. We havent had a fatality like this since i me. Sadly have hows the weather, the wind affecting on things . Things improved quite a bit. In fact, they actually had a couple of scattered showers there today. So not enough to put out a new flames, but weather conditions improving got some gus y spots out there. Theres no getting around that. You see door here. You see the center of it has weakened a little bit moving further away now from the Hawaiian Island chain. So less of an effect. But you can still see the winds still kicking up around that area. And in fact, theyre all pointing toward the hurricane. You can see that right now. See some of those winds going over 20 miles an hour, all pointing toward that area that deep area of low pressure, a couple clouds making their way across a maui today as youve got the trade winds blowing again. And thats where theyre going to see more a meeting on the east side of the islands. Thats where you get all the lush. You get all that vegetation growing. There you get on the west side with the fire was at and thats where things are much drier there because of the or graphic effect there. Well, weve got a hurricane. Dora continue track is still a very strong storm system. But the good news is it is going to continue to make its way away from the Hawaiian Islands. The man accused of shoplifting at assaulting a Security Guard at home depot pleaded not guilty to all charges during his First Court Appearance today, the San Mateo CountySheriffs Office says 26 yearold Jonathan Mackey tried to shoplift and then hit a Security Guard in the face and head with a baton as he was confronted. The guard then hes been charged with 4 mack, felonies all related to the alleged assault. He remains behind bars on 150,000 bail. The guards use of force is also under review by the district attorneys office. Another federal Student Loan Forgiveness Program is in legal trouble. Appeals court in texas just blocked a Biden Administration rule to help out students who claim they were misled and defrauded by forprofit schools. The Biden Administration already approved roughly 13 billion dollars in Debt Forgiveness for defrauded students and about half have had their debts cleared in the lawsuit. Colleges argue the rule change would cause financial and reputational harm for forprofit schools and is, quote, enormous executive overreach. While the new standards are on hold, eligible students can still apply for forgiveness under the previous programs rules. Union Pacific Railroad is fully replacing a section of Railroad Tracks in leandro built in the 18 60s kron fours Philippe Djegal reports. The city is also making safety improvements for cars and pedestrians in that area that has become dangerous at times and at least in one case, deadly. Union Pacific Railroad and the federal government are funding projects in san leandro to improve safety at rail crossings. The first is underway at washington avenue and shot in road where the intersection will remain closed to traffic through at least sunday while crews replace and realign the tracks. Mayor gonzalez, the 3rd says the improvements will make traffic move more smoothly and ensure trains do not any rail. There will also improve the angle at which pedestrians cross the Railroad Tracks, essentially at 90 degrees. A couple thunderstorms and better that right near Point Conception in the santa barbara. This is starting to work its way up in toward the bay area overnight tonight. So you have to watch it very closely. This is a slight chance you could pick up a light shower parts of the south bay overnight tonight, maybe the santa cruz mountains, that low kind of work its way in our direction. So lets keep a close eye on that one to make sure that were not seeing thunderstorm. Dont expect that to happen. But certainly some of those clouds passing overhead highs tomorrow. Still cool on the coastline. 15 60s with a little drizzle there inside the bay. Youll find those numbers comfortable. 75 robot city, the south bay, 70s and 80s by tomorrow afternoon. So just a little bit cooler. And in the east bay, those numbers probably some mid 80s, i think in the warmest numbers coming down just a bit. But not bad. Then we get ready for the weekend and things start to warm up again, get hot. Some of the valleys by sunday here in the mid 90s, maybe triple digits in the monday. Getting close to that on tuesday. Those temperatures going to soar once again, at least in the valleys along the youre back in the 50s and 60s.
