Fairfield one of our only spots still hanging on to the 30s. Im talking the rest of the weekends forecast still to come of course you got to get a look at traffic and we have Rebecca Strom in this morning for robin and rebecca it is such a nice view at the paper right now really is because its so sunny, its dry. I know we need the rain but at least it makes it easy on the roads and drivers the outside right now. The bay bridge has been a perfect commute all morning long in fact this is going to be a really nice trip for you its friday light is we like to call it. 8 minutes on your westbound 80 right coming out of the macarthur maze across the upper deck and into San Francisco, not a bad commute all i am still tracking a hot spot, a Traffic Alert northbound 2. 80 magdalena its an overturned big rig. Its been out there much of the morning. The 2 right lanes are still tied up so definitely want to avoid this area if you can take one to one. Thats a good alternate for now ill be back with a check of the san mateo bridge in just a bit back to the news, thanks rebecca. So our top story this morning. We know that more than 2800 people now have died of coronavirus as of yesterday alone and weve seen a record of more than a 185,000 new cases of infections reported hospitalizations keep going up in the bay area Santa Clara County is seeing that as well as new outb they went out to try to educate the Nursing Homes and the homeless shelters on how does least slow down covid19 unfortunately were seeing explosion in cases in those facilities as far as the homeless shelter, the cargo Reception Center in Santa Clara County. Approximately 56 cases of covid19 that includes the people who used to center and those who work there as far as the Nursing Homes. 2 facilities one we do know the name of they released the name. The other first the other part they didnt give it, but we do know, its the amber woods garden and thats approximately a 156 cases at that one facility and thats residents and the staff and then the second unnamed facility about 86 cases so those 2 places more than 200 covid19 cases we got a chance to track down the Health Department they say there saddened by this but not surprised because so many people are coming in going from the Nursing Homes. Cases rise in the community. That also means that there are more cases they get introduced into these current settings more what we provide we provide testing resources. So we can identify everyone whos been infected. And we provide technical in terms of helping them. Identify of Infection Prevention measures that they can implement to prevent the spread. You heard him talk about they have tried to do preventative measures but its still happen the people in the Nursing Homes that did come down with covid19 as far as the staff, they have been isolated theyre not working at those facilities why is spreading according to the Health Department because a lot of the Nursing Centers are so shortstaffed that a lot of them are rotating from one place to another to another and thats why were seeing the cases they dont know how it happened in particular, but thats the speculation. This morning in Santa Clara County. Its around 36,000. 600 covid19 cases in the past 9 months when the pandemic started in close to 500 people have died. Back to you. All right, thank you very much well. And the outbreaks are limited to Santa Clara County, Nursing Homes covid cases are also being reported at a juvenile detention facility a couple of them theres an outbreak at the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall and William F James ranch facilities with more than a dozen youth and staff infected. One deputy public defender believes the county has failed to keep incarcerated youth safe and so it is time to release them to save them from covid. There is a demonstrated need to hold these in in custody, them they should be out because the facility has proven itself incapable of protecting them and keeping them healthy hes already vulnerable kids have been subject to this deadly virus. Its already happened in the adult Santa Clara Countys adult jails have had their outbreaks and they have been releasing inmates to bring down the risk of coronavirus. Mateo county Health Officials have seen a slow but steady rise in hospitalizations overall capacity right now is at 70 so were not at that critical threshold just yet but in anticipation of a surge that may come here in the weeks ahead. Officials have moved some of the equipment from the San Mateo County event center to hospitals across the county. You may remember the event center was set up months ago to treat patients if the caught both the hospitals became overrun. So far they havent been needed. Officials say they even have more options if the number of cases rises beyond what hospitals are able to handle. In San Mateo County. Our capacity is great we can actually stand up. The national guard. We can actually use on 369 of that hospital which is seen hospital. All patients being treated in San Mateo County or local residents. However, its possible that additional patients could be brought in from other parts of the bay area if needed. Heres a look at the numbers and you can see for the state and for the bay area. They are continuing to get bigger and bigger every day california now has recorded almost 1. 3 million cases since the pandemic began with more than 19,000 deaths for the bay area were looking at more than a 156,000 confirmed cases with more than 1900 people dying from covid19. Time now is 9 06 and all of this means the bay area covering in the new year at home and home like most of the time with a stay at home or like we havent seen since the beginning of the pandemic the governor says that this will kick when areas exceed their icu capacity when theyre at 85 capacity and they only have 50 of their. Icu beds left. Thats when these orders will kick in right now in the bay area were at 25 capacity. Availability for icu so theres plenty of room still to go for us. But when the orders kick in these are the things that it means these are the regions that are involved bay area also by the way includes. What is it de monterrey monterey and santa cruz. So keep that in mind. When this happens. That means bars and wineries will have the clothes and no more barbershops and salons those will have to close. And there wont even be Outdoor Dining will have to go back to the days james we should go roll up and get takeout food and take it home. Theyre thinking right now were said 25 of the beds are still left a nice use. But theyre thinking that that could dip down to 50 by the end of the month and thats the standard for the state to make a call region by region. San Francisco May be exceed what the state is calling for right now and actually clamp down on Outdoor Dining. In the in San Francisco by this weekend. Thats what some of the rumors are being spread around among restaurant owner, so theyre bracing for that possibility kron 4 Sarah Stinson is actually live in San Francisco with more. On the story for us today, good morning sara. Good morning. James yeah weve heard from several Restaurant Owners i just heard from another one that theyve heard that Outdoor Dining will be shut down. On saturday morning at midnight so this is going to jumping the gun of wtat the state is requiring restricting you know the state says once you are in that stay at home order then Outdoor Dining is banned, but the city saying possibly we want to ban it before that happens they want to make a preemptive measure and make sure that they jumped the gun and make sure we dont get to a point where we are at 15 icu beds left like dorian just explain however, Restaurant Owners say theyve been told by Industry Leaders that the city is planning shut down early theyre saying theyre frustrated today and tonight could be the last opportunity for people to eat. Doors and for restaurants, this is tough i mean look at this video you can see how much work each restaurant put in to make sure that their outdoor seating area is not only covered for rain its available when its cold they have heating lamps theyve gotten all decked out in christmas decorations. And now its all for nothing because theyll have to probably shut down their outdoor seating. By tonight to remember the curfew starts at 10 oclock so they be having to serve people tonight by 10 oclock and that will be the last time for a while now. Now we talked with Restaurant Owners and they told us this is frustrating. I mean its tough its so so tough to to put all that energy into building this winter ice parklet that we have over here were going to weigh all of options whether we close during the or we stick you know delivery options, but delivery options are really feasible for us. So you either do takeout delivery and thats about it. A lot of the restaurants. They said theyve had less people coming by because of the cold weather, but still they were banking on this theyve gone above and beyond to make the comfort of the seating all comfortable, but now they probably wont be able to serve people outdoors and we have reached out to the Mayors Office we have not heard back. We even reached out to them last night when we first heard about this still havent heard back so. Stay tuned to our website kron 4 dot com as we continue to follow this. Reporting live in San Francisco Sarah Stinson back to you yeah well, i hope these restaurants get word from the Mayors Office before. Midnight tomorrow morning i would get much time to prepare so yeah, well see thank you very much for the update sarah. Well breaking news from overnight. A car crashes into a pediatricians office in San Francisco. This was at the gets well personalized pediatrics right there on the corner of octavia and union streets it was actually kron 4 Sarah Stinson who was out there earlier this morning collecting this video for us in which you can see that the window to the Doctors Office was shattered. The accident also destroyed the octavia street sign a city bench was torn up as well, we know one person was injured. And thats as much information as weve been able to collect so far but stay tuned to kron 4 will update you as we learn more. Well the thanksgiving holidays over in that one School District here in marion county. Its taking extra steps to make sure that students returning to school and point to be safe. Well tell you whats happening right behind me have that story coming up next. And today, ample sunshine all over again across the bay area has will be the 60s this afternoon were starting off chilly yet again, although temperatures are starting to rise, ive got details in your forecast ahead. Students and parents here you got. Nurses that are here essentially people are arriving with their kiddos and they walking the parents through the cell Testing Process so theyre instructing appearance. What to do. And everyone looks like theyre doing some sort of oral testing i dont see anyone putting it in their nose, so looks like theyre doing oral testing. This is at the core to town park. Theres another location, the parents can also go to that at the san clemente park. They do this from 08 00am until 03 00pm now the students here have been back in school for all 7 weeks they took that break. It spoke to some people from the district out here, heres what they had to say about getting the kids tested him back in school after we look at the results that we get from our testing today thats going inform how we handle that return in january whether or not we do. A couple days of Distance Learning or a full week of Distance Learning or if were back in person on that day we are and we have been committed to following the science following the experts. So in addition to our data and our analysis and thoughts around returning. We have to take guidance trust that the public Health Officials are going to give us additional direction and guidance. Now according to the district all the staff thats going to be working on these campuses will be tested for the students, its all optional whether or not. They received but its strongly recommended so now what happens. Theyre tested here they get the results back and then based off what they find that determines whats going to happen next is some students need to quarantine if well theyre going to have to delay starting school back what they plan on continuing with school if people need to quarantine doing that. So thats why theyre asking everyone to come down that goes to any of these schools to be tested for now reporting here in quarter harvey kron 4 news. All right, thank you very much right now. 9. 18 is the time and were looking at the weather and smooth sailing. Id say cant really complain about it on a friday, everything feels better on a friday john in the weather. Yeah, certainly looking all right. I agree it could be pretty gross out there would still be like its fried but we do happen to have some really nice conditions for sure youre looking at the coast right now at Half Moon Bay conditions are nice and sunny out there little bit hazy the further inland you get our concern at the coast today certainly not the haze but. Rather the sneaker waves in the high swell that were going to be seeing now waves did peak overnight will gradually diminish through the day today. But these advisories actually extended until 03 00pm today as we do look at dangerous rip currents and swell out there so just something to know if you do head out to the beach always keep that one eye on the ocean and make sure that you are just keeping an eye on those waves as for future cast today, its back to the sunshine. We go a little bit on the hazy side as you noted yesterday, an air quality at not at its best is this highpressure ridge continues. We remain dry through the weekend, good weather for any sort of shopping you need to get done maybe some backyard errands or a back yard work that you need to do those errands of course as well a Drought Monitor shows you the deepening Drought Conditions that weve seen across the bay area as weve had a couple of weeks of dry weather now and will continue actually to see some dry weather ahead. Ive been checking this longerrange forecasts that not looks like not only next week remains dry. But likely the week after that to your 3rd week of december of the week before christmas. So we are expecting these Drought Conditions to only expand the plus side here is obviously weve had some nice weather lately. Its been the highs in the 60s, some sunshine to enjoy were keeping all that going today and into tomorrow too concord 66 for your high today with fremont in redwood city each at 64 ciena rose at 68 degrees 20 or warmer to be expecting this afternoon. Next week a few 70s in the mixed monday and tuesday are likely to be our warmer days of this forecast, lots of sunshine all the way through the middle of next week we will see an uptick in wind speeds on monday and after such a dry weather lately. This does raise the concern of fire weather all over again in the meantime today looks like a good one to enjoy. Rebecca, all right, thank you john were going to head out and hit the roads in the south bay. Weve been dealing with them this hot spot pretty much all morning long avoid that northbound 2. 80 stretch right near magdalene avenue. Its an overturned big rig thats still stuck out there. Its blocking the 2 right lanes and its been that way for much of the morning and theyre still trying to get a cruise to up riding get on that flight been truck so they can try to remove it and get it out of your way this morning but really avoid the stretch because youve got of all the way to highway 85 getting into cupertino so instead your alternate El Camino Real you could take one oh one running parallel, nice and green meaning the speeds are at the limit for those areas definitely use that as your alternate the bay bridge toll plaza getting into San Francisco. Its been a breeze all morning long and not tracking any accidents, no stalls in your way under 10 minutes on westbound 80 to try to make your way out of the macarthur maze and then across the upper deck into San Francisco. The san mateo bridge also looks great im not tracking any issues on the flat section the high rises problem free. And total trip time of 12 minutes coming out of the east bay trying to get over to the peninsula and making that connection with one oh been update on the Richmond Center fell bridge in just a bit back to the news. I guess i just i hope that its not as need it though i dont know john wayne sunny all day today. If theres ever december you need some sunscreen it would be this one because weve had so much of it thats for sure and were going to be looking at more of that sunshine on through the course of your friday today and really through your weekend ahead of us too continuing this dry trend of weather as well at least temperatures have been really comfortable so as youre getting outside for your weekend ahead of us. Keeping the good weather going this is your look outside from suture tower sure its sunny but youre noticing Something Else in this view too its that haze their quality certainly hasnt been the best and were continuing to look at moderate to even pockets up or air quality across the bay area today. So if you have respiratory conditions this is definitely something to note as you step outside air quality is certainly not as bad as it were in the midst of our fires. But it is notably a little smug you looking out there as for temperatures right now were starting to see conditions climbing not really in the 30s anymore like we were this morning. Half moon bay or a 55 earlier this morning. Youre in the upper 30s. Fairfield youre at 50 now well, oakland and berkeley to your warmer spots at 54 degrees and plenty more in this forecast. Still ahead first of course we need to get a look at traffic and this morning, its with Rebecca Strom 1000 on the roads hey john were looking pretty good for the most have one hot spot that all the bridges are checking in problem free. All the way to the fremont street exit 8 minutes for your westbound 80 commute heading over to the Richmond Center fell bridge looking great a gorgeous shot lots of sunshine to enjoy 7 minutes. On your west bound 5. 80 ride for the richmond sandra fell bridge getting up to the north bay clocking in at only 7 minutes. So far a spot to avoid though in the south bay. This is northbound 2. 80 as you make your way out of right at magdalena weve been dealing with this overturned big rig for much of the morning. The 2 right lanes still shutdown by chp is still continue to try to clear this so you can see the traffic is a pretty slow all the way back to highway 85. You want to jump on the one o one or El Camino Real as your alternates so far this morning, he is going to be out there still for a little bit longer. I have an update on the san mateo bridge coming up in just a bit back to the news. Thank you San Francisco, one city supervisor is pushing for teachers to be able to get towards the front of the line to get a covid shot right after health care workers. Supervisor Hillary Ronen introduced a resolution urging the state to recognize Public School teachers and staff for a covid vaccine. She believes that speeding up that process will help the speeding up of reopening the schools and ultimately help the students. Were all working overtime were all working double shifts and it wears on you know you can do that for a while i think doing this for over a year for about a year now. And it just takes its toll not just the physical demand, but it. The emotional toll seeing are patients struggle and or have their families their so its its a physical emotional strain. Nurses across the country are pleading for hospitals to staff up almost all hospitals are dealing with nursing shortages. Now that the majority of traveling nurses are being focused on the midwest. Youre westbound 80 just under 10 minutes to get you into a complete traffic check coming up after the break stay with us. One and since the pandemic pets are in big demand. But the good news, i guess is that the number of pets that need to find a home. Its actually way down so thats causing the Contra Costa Animal Services, folks to kind of put the word out that if you had been in the market to you know write these pets home while they dont need as many foster families now. We are not in need of foster you know when the pandemic first came about in midmarch. Are volunteers really stepped up became the primary fosters for our animal dogs and cats of the world are working overtime right now to keep our and yet to help us something were social creatures. We you know we miss that kind of social contact. If you want to adopt you do that online these the San Francisco spca still charges they have varying prices for pets but Contra Costa Animal Services they let you adopt for free. During the pandemic 9. 42 and still ahead in the buzz, the fortyniners of practicing in arizona. Theyre trying to get into a routine, but shanahan is still upset about what happened to them being kicked leave us. 9. 45 right now of people early yeah, yeah, this is the best we get to see the carpet is freshly groomed because its fresh manmade snow. I mean they use the yeah, but just. Snow just looking to see that plenty of social distancing to worry about that now but as our has been youve got a reserve dont just think all there and now they need serve us well and were not going to get any fresh powder anytime soon or we die. Its not looking like a guys i know weve had such dry weather the past couple of weeks this week was certainly one of those weeks next week does look to be as well and the following week after that is likely to be bringing some dry weather to really model runs not placing much of a chance of rain or snow for that matter in this forecast that does mean good conditions on 80 the roadway very very dry under those blue skies, were Still Holding on to snow up on the slopes in one of the big reasons for that is we have snow making because it has been pretty chilly up there despite the dry conditions weve seen at tahoe, we havent seen snow at sierra at tahoe since november 18th thats a good stretch of dry weather right there conditions we do have 18 inches of powder up there which is good news at least we do have that solid base squaw valley looking at 24 inches that summit your last snowfall was on november 22nd as was the case for most of our resorts, 10 lifts opens at squab as for mount rose you have 5 was so fun and 28 runs and then finally format northstar an increase in the amount of trails that you have open from last week. Now this is without new mother natures snowfall but additional trails open because of all the snow making that has occurred up there so that is certainly helping temperatures are cool enough conditions clear enough that it will be a Beautiful Day of skiing could use mother natures help though not just because we want to go skiing but because we need the water here in the bay area too were falling behind with rainfall because we have seen deepening drought across the region over the course of the fall and now as we work our way into the start of the winter season. Drought is only going to be expanding his next couple of weeks, extreme drought in red for the north bay and then severe drought expanding further southward for the rest of the bay area. The good news is of course weve had sunshine which makes for enjoyable weather and weve got more of that into the weekend ahead of us. Daytime highs today in a range of upper 50s to low to mid 60s along the coastline. Well elsewhere in the bay area, its back to the 60s. These numbers look pretty familiar at this point weve gotten used to 60s and weve got plenty more of them san jose at 66 for your high today fremont at 64 while hayward in pleasanton each right at 65 degrees. Oakland berkeley or raga all at 64 for your highs today. Well looking at some upper 60s in areas like vacaville sonoma on over to santa rosa, either 67 or 68 degrees. Heres your look ahead. We have a few 70s in the forecast by monday and tuesday lots of sunshine staying with us. We are going to see an increase in offshore winds sunday night into monday and that sounds familiar because that does result in the increase in fire danger. Even though were in december were still in the midst of some dry conditions so keep that in mind for the start of next week. Rebecca. Thank you john, lets head outside and check out some conditions at the bay bridge toll plaza approach its beautiful and sunny. And it is friday light not a lot of cars in your way if youre trying to get into downtown San Francisco. This is what awaits you a nice commute into the city on your westbound 80 drive 12 minutes to the fremont street exit across the upper deck, switching over to the san mateo bridge. Its been a problem free all morning long it remains that way youre westbound 92 commute coming out of the east bay over to the peninsula. 13 minutes for you as you make that connection with one oh one and heading up to the north bay the Richmond Center fell bridge looks great under 10 minutes to get you from the pay gates up to one o one in coming out of the north bay. Its been great all morning long and continues to be that way as we wrap up the morning commute 20 minutes coming out of a highway 37 in novato coming are and and then all the way across the golden gate into San Francisco. Again on south 1, one only a 20 minute commute back to the news. In the buzz practice practice, the fortyniners got to it at their home away from home in arizona where they will host the bills on monday. Allow the players are getting acclimated to the desert the coach is clearly still peeved that Santa Clara County band contact sports. Without so much as a courtesy call. Like communication thats all and how people treat each most human beings. So thats what were disappointed with and weve got to deal with the situation is like a lot of people are dealing with stuff not just. The niners i mean all over football, i know were the only ones whove had to move, but all over the country i mean so everyones got to deal with stuff you want to sit here and be well as me. Theres just a way to do and thats what we are bothered with. Its think a big renter like levis we get more than a at the door usually when you give it get some kind of notice the fortyniners basically woke up one day and suddenly they had to find a new home for their family of 50. The warriors back in the house back at the chase center tuning up before full practice starts next week. All the guys know theyre going to have to step up their game to help steph curry make a splash without klay. Coming into the season. I want to do what i to do to help the team win.
