In the bay area can be ringing in 2021 under a stay at home order governor Gavin Newsome released new rules as the state tries to stabilize hospital capacity. The stay at home order will go into effect by region once there are fewer than 15 of icu beds available in that region as of right now in the bay area only 25 of icu beds are available at this rate the stay at home order could go into effect by the end of the month. The latest stay at home order will last 3 weeks and close several businesses including bars wineries hair salons and barbershops retail can remain open, but only at 20 capacity. Restaurants are only allowed to offer takeout. Well in San Francisco restaurants are on edge about the fate of Outdoor Dining some restaurants are apparently getting calls that Outdoor Dining will be shut down this weekend. The manager of johns grill on ellis street says he got a call from people involved with planning in the city. They alerted him when the city would shut down Outdoor Dining maybe on saturday. Like many other restaurants, johns grill recently spent a lot of money for its Outdoor Dining set up so not being able to use it will be a huge waste. I mean its tough its so so tough to put all that energy into building this winter ice parklet that we have over here were going to weigh all of options whether we close during the or we stick you know delivery options, but delivery options are really feasible for us. One of the nursing home says the amber woods gardens in san jose. County officials did not release the name of the other facility. Only saying that is also located in san jose. Cases rise in the community. That also means that there are more cases that get introduced into these current settings more what we provide we provide testing resources. So we can identify everyone whos been infected. And we provide technical in terms of helping them identify of Infection Prevention measures that they can implement to prevent the spread. And then you are in the ucl a study back in august found that employees who work in multiple nursing home serve as significant drivers of spreading the virus. Well the outbreaks in Santa Clara County are limited to Nursing Homes. Theyre also dealing with the first cluster of covid cases at juvenile detention facilities. More than a dozen people including youth and staff have been affected. Kron fours dan thor has the story. County Officials Say this is the first outbreak since the pandemic began in march and all of those that have been infected have been receiving excellent care criminal Justice Reform advocates say this all could have been prevented by taking better steps including releasing incarcerated youth. Santa clara countys Juvenile Hall and William F James ranch facilities have experienced an outbreak of covid19. 9 boys and 4 Staff Members make up the infected. Its really troubling to see that. While in our county care that hes already vulnerable kids have been subject to this deadly virus. Deputy public defender khan with the Santa Clara County alternate Defenders Office believes the county has failed in its responsibility to keep incarcerated youth safe. As cases have been surging across the area. He says now is the time to release those in custody, unless there is a demonstrated need to hold these in in custody, them they should be out because the facility has proven itself incapable of protecting them and keeping them healthy.
