Im going to virginia. For thanksgiving. But this trip thats why folks to couple months ago so were going to plan. Seattle for thanksgiving sfo officials attribute the low travel numbers to local Health Officials Health Warnings and travel advisories recommending against travel this year. Health orders that see that really the safest thing to do this year is to stay home thats the biggest difference. Current flight schedules for airlines or 40 of what they had planned to do this time of year before the pandemic hit the domestic terminal looks very ghostlike while the International Terminal looks a bit livelier people came pretty prepared though to fly as safe as possible mask and social distance to do the best and sfo has done a lot to try and keep people safe as well we also have an fasteners that patrol all of our terminals to ensure that masking is happening. And then also weve installed hundreds of clear plastic barriers in places where a face to face interaction might be necessary information be tsa checkpoints and then lastly on the ground youll see physical distancing markers installed about 15,000 of them around the airport traveling to another area and seeing family members puts everyone at a higher risk of contracting coronavirus would you say that traveling. During this pandemic is worth the risk to see your family. Well weve taken all the precautions necessary and. Well go down to the south bay where theres developing news this afternoon because San Jose Police just told us who they arrested for a deadly stabbing over the weekend at a church kron fours rob fladeboe joins us now live from san jose with more. And what police just had to say good afternoon rob. Good afternoon. Justine yeah, this is a story that were probably going to be hearing a lot more of in the days and weeks ahead deja vu if you will with regard to the countys controversial sanctuary policy but first things first im here at San Jose Police headquarters where chief eddie garcia just held a News Conference along with the san jose mayor sam liccardo. Chief garcia identified the suspect in connection with the deadly stabbing at Grace Baptist Church on sunday as 32 yearold fernando, hey, susie lopez a homeless individual has been living off and on the streets of san jose for the several months. He is charged with multiple of 2 counts of murder and 3 counts of attempted murder and and various other charges. He was to be arraigned this afternoon is superior court but that the last minute the arraignment was postponed. No reason was given. Now at the news chief garcia said case was entirely preventable that this would happen by the way take a look at the video from sunday night at Grace Baptist Church Near San Jose State University when police were called there about 8 oclock to reports of a multiple stabbing. 2 people stabbed fatally 3 others hospitalized and are expected to survive, but a chief garcia said this a case of this what happened over there was preventable because mister lopez should not have been released from the county jail where he was serving time in connection with a misdemeanor arrest here in san jose back in june. But weve learned that he was also on probation in connection with a Domestic Violence conviction in san joaquin county. Now this Santa Clara County, a sanctuary policy prohibits them from cooperating with federal authorities mister lopez was released from the county jail immigration was not notified he went back out living on the streets and then what happened on the sunday at the church in san jose. Yeah, heres more now from chief garcia on what happened. The sackler county policy prohibits responded immigration detainers. Which allowed the suspect to be released. A suspect lopez was also released by judge following the same Domestic Violence arrest in santa clara. Despite having a violent history on what is known as i mentioned supervised own reconnaissance release program. Received the question what could have prevented this tragedy. I would point to a single thing. But rather of multitude of tools and opportunities that were not utilize or failed. It is also unfair for the burden of rehabilitation to fall on places like great baptist clearly we need to do more. One thing that i want to make clear. And i want to make this abundantly clear. The actions of this suspect in no way reflect that of our diverse beautiful immigrant community that we have in san jose. She garcia made clear that he believes the attacker investigators believe the attack was not racially motivated any way there were people of multiple miss cities. During this attack, but that was not the motive. Chief garcia says investigators believe that this suspect lopez was under the influence of drugs and that may have contributed to what happened there. Chief garcia also revealed that lopez had been deported 3 times which would put on in on the radar of ice ice was not notified that he was going to be really so once again this as a rekindled the debate over the sanctuary policy. You recall this as same thing happened about a year or so ago when a san jose woman named bambi larson i was murdered in her home in san jose allegedly by an undocumented individual who also had been released from the county jail. As mister lopez he remains now once again locked up in the Santa Clara County jail pending his arraignment which was postponed. Live in san jose rob fladeboe kron 4 news just the. Thank you so much and still ahead once a covid19 vaccine is ready to go it will need certain accommodations. In order to keep it safely store so were going to talk with a local hospital about how they plan to make that happen. And the nations first athome coronavirus test kid is ready for the market but not everyone will be able to get it that st want to eliminate odors without heavy, overwhelming scents . We get it. Introducing febreze light. It eliminates odors. With no heavy perfumes. In light scents youll love. New febreze light. Just between us, cleaning with a mop and bucket is such a hassle. Start swiffering theres no bad time to start at amazon. I like the flexibility. It also allows for picking up shifts. Safety comes first, speed comes second. Safety. Safety. Safety. Were making sure that somebody is getting their very important items. It makes me very happy. The fda approval of the first athome coronavirus test comes as the number of cases continue to surge and wait times for results are just getting longer and longer. This is an all in one test kit that can give patients a diagnosis within 30 minutes and its expected to cost about 50 bucks but not every american will have access to this right away. Our washington dc correspondent jessi eaton or brings us the details. Has resolved 13 minutes american soon wont have to leave their homes wait in line for hours for a test and stand by for days not knowing if their covid19 positive. We learned. The past election. Our political analysts is talking about these social quote disconnect. Plus what an oakland man wanted to put on his license plate and the judges ruling on it thats a good day or go. And right after the break, well have a live report on this breaking news story that hundreds of bikes have been stolen from a program, the donated bikes to just days before San Francisco firefighters were to begin distributing toys for the holidays come some word now that someone has stolen 200 donated tricycles from one of their Storage Units kron fours dan kerman is live for us now in San Francisco this afternoon. He has more on this story and how this will impact the San Francisco Firefighters Toy Programmed and this is terrible. But its right you know the San Francisco Firefighters Toy Program has been going on for decades thousands of families throughout San Francisco. And in fact coming up this monday was the first day that they were going to get ready to start giving out some of these toys that have been donated well it turns out over the weekend or possibly monday. Theyre still trying to figure this out 200 try circles were stolen from one of their storage lockers which is located in the bayview apparently somebody got through a chainlink fence and barbed wire and crack the lock and somehow got these 200 tighter circles out and they say that this is really going to have an impact on families in need. They took all the things for the younger children, so its really a big impact on the families that were going to start serving on monday. Not everyone will get a tricycle this year unless theyre miraculously returned or you know we get additional donations. Now the tri sickles in question about a 100 of them are so look very much like this red radio flyer try sickle. There were also a version that were in blue. Now officials are telling us there are several search security cameras right around that property right now theyre checking that Surveillance Video first of all to find out who got in how they got in and how they were able to cart out 200 of those try sickles live in San Francisco. Dan kerman kron 4 news. Thank you so much dan hope they can get them. Back now to our coronavirus coverage and despite pleas from public Health Officials to stay home for the holidays triple a says millions of americans have decided to travel to see loved ones during thanksgiving. The vast majority will travel by car. What they say will be a little bit safer during the pandemic they think its a safer option. But doctors are concerned that these millions of travelers were create many more cases of covid19 in the weeks and months ahead. Weve holidays if you well. When that kind of situation has resulted in spikes down the road. If you are traveling this Holiday Weekend make sure to research what travel advisories are in effect for the areas that youre visiting remember we do have advisories here in the bay area. The cdc may soon shorten its recommendation for how long people should quarantine after possibly being exposed to covid19 currently its 14 days. But it could be reduced to 7 or 10 days. The cdc says the period could be shortened if patients are tested for the virus during their quarantine the decision to change the guidance is not final and experts are still reviewing data to make sure that these changes but not the people at risk. Now President Trump. Has pardoned former National Security adviser Michael Flynn despite a guilty plea in the russian probe will have more on this developing story tonight for you at 5, 6, but first president elect joe biden gave a thanksgiving address today which was a plea for unity Catherine Heenan the host of inside bay area politics as that that could be a tough ask according to our political analysts good afternoon catherine high just a saying this could be really tough. One of the important trends the president ial election showed us. This is according to professor David Mckeown it is a lot harder these days to measure Public Opinion and attitudes and thats not a random fact who says in fact it is affecting pretty much everything. If we look closely at donald trump and trumpism man and the Trump Movement we see that a lot of his voters are socially disconnected or a lack what we call social networks theyre not as connected to society and so when we go to measure their voting preferences when we go to a poll done for example theyre much less likely to answer polls and its much more difficult to get some sense of the level of support he has this social disconnected kind of component or the lack of networking is an important barometer then of measuring Public Opinion and attitudes theres a lot of folks given coat but given the recession given being at home from work. They feel disconnected so getting people together in community and ceiling that connectedness is both something we have to measure better because it deals with this kind of polling debacle that we had in 2016 and again in 2020 but it also measures with that connectedness what were where were going with our politics, especially in the midst of social and political upheaval, massive demographic change all of these kinds of a broader things that are affecting American Society how we work how we play how we this. Acunas saying that the president elect biden number one challenge and the one thats facing all of government is handling the pandemic he says finding Common Ground on that like anything else wont be easy justine. Thank you so much katherine. A federal judge says california cannot ban vanity license plates that it considers offensive to good taste and decency because. That violates freedom of speech. Tuesdays ruling in a San Francisco court took aim at a department of Motor Vehicles rule. The judge said that personalized plates or form of expression by the vehicles owner and rules governing them must be viewpoint neutral even if the messages might be offensive. The ruling comes at a lawsuit filed on behalf of 5 people who were denied permission for their plates messages and this includes a man in oakland who wanted to use the word on his plate. Now the bay area air Quality Management district is asking us all not to boo would burn would tonight or on thanksgiving, this is ordered. Try to keep air pollution from rising to unhealthy levels there is no spare the air alert in effect for either day. Wood burning in fireplaces or wood stoves can significantly impact pollution. So theyre just. Asking us to be mindful. But speaking of the air quality and whats it like outside well turn now to get a check of our Weather Forecast with eric a cat or a she is in our weather center. Happy early thanksgiving, happy thanksgiving justine while air is looking really good most of the bay area we are in the green as trying to pull up. That graphic a second ago, but i want to show you this shot petaluma were seeing clear blue skies other parts of the bay area seeing low clouds moving through region now is a little windy in some parts of the bay area like along the coast and that is because of a dry cold front sweeping through the bay area but it is bringing some light showers to the very northern tip of the state. As you can see in humboldt and Del Norte County up there. But this rain out there is not expected to reach us here in the bay area as you can see right now it is looking dry and that reflects exactly what youre seeing outside no rain in sight for these next few days here. Our current temperatures right now in the south bay are in the lower 60s 62 in livermore mid 60s right now in napa and delay how and up in santa rosa were looking at 63 degrees again those gusts along the coast are a pretty high up to 20 Miles Per Hour seek feel that if youre walking along the coast as for temperatures tomorrow, were looking at 60s across San Francisco along the coast 60 down in half moon bay, little breezy 64 in millbrae for daytime highs tomorrow mid 60s in redwood city out in the south bay. Were looking at lower to mid 6062 in milpitas so if youre going to be outdoors in the evening you might want to wear some layers it will be a little chilly having that thanksgiving dinner so from concord to san ramon are also looking at the mid 60s for daytime highs 64 in napa and 64 in santa rosa know valley also looking at mid 60s so stick around because ill have your 7 day extended forecast coming up in just a bit back to you just seen looking forward to it thank you so much an east bay you through helping to empower young people through music and the arts, how hiphop or changes staying afloat. And still ahead there are very specific conditions that are needed to store the upcoming covid19 vaccine once its available. So well hear from a local doctor. And a local hospital about how theyre getting ready so they can make accommodations for all the vaccine that we and east bay you group is among countless organizations trying to regain its footing after the pandemic hiphop for change aims to empower young people through music and the arts and its founder says its also trying to reclaim hiphop music which he says was corrupted by big record companies. We would have started we were buying your own stories fortunately, black and brown communities have been kept out of like the financials same way that other communities hassle you dont so these corporations you for it makes sense to go to other communities that have a lot of money still one of these communities in the suburbs the right enroll sexuality and for hiphop you know we have some people that like most people talk about their own lives, not not know who we are and thats what were trying to build platform to enfranchise the artists that dont big the ideals of a college you know were trying to actually build a platform that financially lift up and get resources still represent that she weve got 3 main goal is to work were a sweet 1 4 Million Dollars and employ over 900 grassroots fundraiser scalia green peas are safe and so than 60 you see us out employing people to be activists in and get some resources to bring back to our community that we talked kids k through 12 the real they got local artist trauma informed in the getting paid to teach these kids how break to receive express who they are on inside. Also really big offensive shows like our womens empowerment summit in our it will be something that can provide a platform local artist what to positive progress through the we also are building a studio opened back up the city of free resources kids on the team for what covid not 25 of our organizational. You our monthly so were struggling little under water. Overshot we just this as that 9 organizations kicking. We could use a little support giving tuesday campaign will tell you that. Hip hop or change still need some Financial Support to keep their programs going theyre teaching nationwide. Online while as america and the world wait for covid19 vaccine amid surging cases and hospitalizations the question comes now once there is a vaccine. How are we actually going to get it. What about safety in the storage measures that are needed to be able to keep that vaccine viable well, some pharmaceutical companies have said that their vaccines need to be stored at very very cold temperatures and ucsf has one of those really large and really cold freezers that thats going to be used to store the vaccine but joining us now from ucsf is their chief pharmacist as eco to shes going to talk to us about this vaccine first off thank you, happy early thanksgiving. We do timing of the vaccine when are you expecting it to arrive. Well were not given that information but if i had my crystal ball and just from what were hearing from the state. Is that probably the 3rd week of december we will have next scene so youll have it will be able to start giving it out at around that same time and i know its for focus know that. The she had an emergency use authorization filed last friday afternoon. And im december 10th. They will meet again. Then of be more meetings obviously those who are involved in. In this process and so we should probably know more by the middle december and then usually takes anywhere between 3 to 7 days to actually get the vaccine. To us as you said its under ultralow temperatures so arie the deep freezer so we have quite a few deep freezer set with store that this vaccine. He had talked to me about that reserve how cold they have to be how big are they and how many doses do they hold. There they look like and operate refrigerator home refrigerator, but there obviously a medical great freezer mainly used in laboratories but of course they are use for medications as well so pretty atypical for medications to be in 70 degrees celsius. This vaccine is stored at 80 degrees. The pfizer vaccine, which is the. The first vaccine thats been approved and you see a in september. And francisco general or 2 in San Francisco that have well have early distribution a vaccine and that his as he will next scenes we can out in store hundreds of thousands of doses ucsf at San Francisco general and then also the Health Department San Francisco department of public has additional freezers son serendipitously we we have just ordered and received many freezers that work for sustainability project that were going to replace some of our freezers in our schools like our School Pharmacy where theres Research Done so were able to utilize those or storage of this vaccine. So youll be storing the vaccines we then be able to distribute them to pharmacies local doctors, its not like we have to go to. General or to ucsf to get the vaccine. So this is a first distributions so what that means is we were selected. Were one of 7 is in the entire state that were selected to distribute vaccine. So there are guidelines from the cdc and from that. California department of public health. Its a and state who will get in who is recommended at highest risk to get the vaccine. So the first phase is First Responders and Healthcare Professionals that are at risk that are taking care of patients so is would be or Health Care Workers and emergency departments. Covid unit where theyre taken care of covid Urgent Care Centers and so that would be the first grouping thats recommended that this vaccine would be administered to enter you to start interrupt you just getting the vials of the vaccine, but what about the needles in the shops and the band aids is all that them with it so basically all of this is getting should together the vaccine. Comes in a little too amount pile at their 5 doses in the vaccine. Its a life of lies powder. Needs to be i see comes out of the deep freeze, its side and then its reconstituted sterile sailing that will come with stored on the shelf at Room Temperature and also the supplies like the needle syringe is sharp his teen years bandages and spots all that will be coming with it. We also have a supply of all of those that unfortunately our team in our supply chain in tears mean its been ucsf secure for us what thank you so much for joining us have so many more questions we have to move on here with our show im just so happy to hear you think its going to be coming by the 3rd week of december weve got to get this going and sounds like youre ready to roll have a great thanksgiving. Thank you thanks for having me s we do a good news though to kick off the holiday season, this years macys thanksgiving day parade will still be going on its going to floats performers balloons and a special appearance by santa claus, but because of the pandemic there wont be a parade route with spectators gathering there to watch you can see some their rehearsals here instead the parade is going to be staged in the span of one new york city block right in front of the macys store on 34th street, so something to watch tomorrow wire cooking your turkey. And if youre craving some hot chocolate you can drink up a new study finds that it makes you smarter researchers in the uk say its thanks to the presence of flavonols that the chemicals thats a been done in cocoa beans, so participants who drink hot chocolate showed a greater increase in blood ox innovation to the frontal cortex that helps them complete tasks. All right quickly before we go here a check now of our forecast it sounds like its going to be chilly. So day and cook.
