Morning a lot colder than yesterday was. Heres your change over the past 24 hours nevado down 20 degrees from the same time yesterday napa down 16 degrees in santa rosa, a full 17 degrees cooler than where we were yesterday so its time for those winter jackets go ahead layer up and feel cozy as you are getting up to the roads to make your way into work. Your car, i know some people i do have leave, but i was just thinking, im jealous of all the people with the heated seats and a heated steering wells must be nice. Yeah, im not on that level must be a knife on mornings like this take a little extra time to warm up that car folks since its so cold out there were looking at the trip into San Francisco. So you need extra time to warm up the car you need extra time to sit in this line which killed all the way back be on west grand but. We like quiet and its been very quiet here in the bay bridge throughout the morning so no issues just a lot of crowding with folks heading back to work they were off yesterday and now were back at 13 minutes into San Francisco, a beautiful shot of the golden gate were traffic remains nice and smooth here its been trouble free throughout the morning, lets keep it that way i know thats hopeful thinking 20 minutes rolling south nevado to the toll plaza so the bay bridge is packed james and darya but the golden gate looks good. So expect some bridges a great summer crawl. Dont even just what i hear you say golden gate makes me dollars saying increase in that hole. The possible highlighted on find out and i have a feeling the north bay residents, you know who come to work in San Francisco are not going to be the happy about that much money, the possibility of workers being laid off yeah my heart because you dont want to see that happen again so thats a tough decision. Yeah following that story for sure. Thank you robin time now is 7 02 and the top story, parents and teachers are rallying this morning at santa clara county. There are protesting. Against a rush to reopen schools. Yeah, they dont want to do until its safe. They say schools are big reopen without proper say a proper safety precautions. On the story for us this morning is coppers reyna harvey shes in san jose with the latest good morning, friday morning, the teachers and parents okay have been out here this morning asking the district to make sure that teachers and educators and Staff Members are safe as well as the students now weve got a chance to hear from miss sarah gia karl, shes an occupational therapist. What the district will already back in the classroom. Some things this morning that you all are asking for. So the primary thing were asking for is what Additional Health and Safety Training that is more comprehensive for all our classrooms staff as well as people returning to the programs as well. The second thing were asking for is ensuring that theres adequate staffing in our classrooms that you have more students obviously we have a cost of one or 2 students we dont need as much stock but we have some concerns that have 7 students with autism and they are having difficulty both and keeping their students engaged in working with them while also implementing the necessary cleaning protocols. The 3rd thing were asking for is to continue to allow workers to telecommute we know that there are less than a 3rd of students returning in person to the cost of the have reopened means that even if we doubled our students not ratio that should still be opportunities for 3rd of the people to continue to work from we talked about how the students have been struggling a lot of them. Who are working from home, what are some of the concerns and you have for students that may be at home during this time. One of my students for example has autism its a challenge for him to attend to the screen to sit near the screen even standing at the screen many times on his mom tells hes standing behind the ipad today and so shes relaying the information that im giving him in trying to engage him. But its a its a big challenge for him as a reason in addition he doesnt fully understand why hes not getting on the bus and going to School Every Day and so he has become more the stress that the disruption in his routine. He started biting his hand hes getting more upset when hes at home. And so he needs to be in person and we understand that this is learning is a challenge for many of our students and we want them to be in percent. This family, his dad had a transplant recently his brother previously had open heart surgery, so theres a lot of risk in the home of covid19 we want to ensure that if he comes to school. Hes not going to get something at school and take it back to his family its not that you guys are asking for them to close schools and keep everyone home is that you want to make sure that the classroom is safe and educators that can be at home and do the working for a moment, they have high risk Family Members can do so yes thats correct we definitely want our students back in person we understand that they need to be but we believe that it could be done better than what were doing right now i would she said the Mckinley School and they are not opening until next year that School District. So kind of juxtapose here you know kind of what are your thoughts on School Districts. Now are keeping their kids home until next year. I think for general education students they generally can benefit from Distance Learning my daughters nearly 11 and she can handle being in front of the screen and doing her assignments for special education students of the little bit trickier which is one of the reasons why we place that the county has paid the priority on bringing students back in person. We opened our first classes for special education students on october 5th and have been opening additional classrooms every week since thank you so much for speaking with me all right, thank okay saw like you mentioned that just wrapped up that press conference here weve all soul. Reached out to the School District are waiting to back from them, but as you can see 2 completely different School Districts. One keeping their students at home until next year and the students and teachers, many of that are here today already back in their classrooms asking for more support and safety in our reporting here in san jose right in the kron 4 news the top on a tough decision and its really an uncertain time for different schools doing Different Things thank you reena. 7 06. Well the San Francisco unified School District is increasing its Testing Capacity just to make sure that even asymptomatic Staff Members alright den a fine and they receive the proper care. The district is partnering with the Biotech Company Curative Incorporated thats the Company Actually be providing these tests and that basically will make the district now the largest testing entity. In the entire city. The district is still preparing to start reopening schools in january thats the plan as it stands there working out the details right now regarding where the testing sites will be how the tests will be administered. Tracking the results and of course conducting Contact Tracing should that be necessary here have ocean of coronavirus cases all around the United States weve seen this trend in the past week and now were at an all time high with the country recall recording close to a 140,000 new cases on tuesday new hospitalization from covid reach more than 61,000. The u. S. Currently averaging 1600 new hospitalizations every day and this is all coming in to the covid tracking and as coronavirus cases rise in the north bay marine county now recommending that Indoor Dining be reduced. To just 25 at the moment its just voluntary. Theyre trying to get a better handle on this rise that theyre seeing here in coronavirus cases kron fours will tran joining us live from marin county with more on the story not mandatory for now well theyre hoping that just enough from restaurants and businesses will just comply voluntarily. Hopefully you can get it under control because if the state steps in it could be a little bit more severe as far as the duration of how long they could possibly be in the red tier which is an inconvenience towards the customers and it would cost the restaurants a lot of money so better do it yourself as far as whats going on they had it under control in midoctober where the state said its ok to go back to the orange here you might recall that it was red for quite some time and went back to the orange here and things are under co trol for quite some time. Then they saw the explosion in cases after the first week of november so went from like 9 daily cases to like 2223 cases and thats why theyre in jeopardy of going to the red tier which means that capacity will not be what it is currently this morning at 50 they want them to go back to 25 capacity and that stopped because it is cold these days and a lot of people would like to dine inside but inside means it could be possibly as super spreader area as far as covid19 is concerned weve got a chance to listen in some on some Health Officials in marin county. Heres what they had to say about scaling back. Food Service Workers correspondingly have the highest rates of covid19. In marin county and thats a pattern across the nation as well. There have been several super spreader events described from restaurants where an individual who may have infectious at that time not covering their faces theyre eating and drinking. The demolitions or and theres many gathered indoors. One case can lead to in some some descriptions of 20 other cases just from one. Once eating at a restaurant. Ok so heres the reason why and area im sure can attest to this its almost like the nc double a will step in and sanction use better that you as a university punish yourself and the reason being if you can get it under control now than maybe you wont get into the red or if you are then maybe wont last as long because under the states guideline if california steps in that means they will be in the red tier for at least 3 weeks as the state monitors the situation so thats why theyre asking the restaurants now to do it themselves or risk further consequences down the road i see people showing up right now and i will get reaction coming up at 8 o clock. Back to you. All right well, thank you very much. 7. 10 and today theres going to be free coronavirus testing in the south bay the tests are at Central Park Library on homestead road santa clara. From 9. 30 this morning until 3 in the afternoon. You dont have to have insurance but you do need an appointment and results are supposed to come back within 3 to 7 days. Still ahead on the kron 4 morning news and east bay School District will be voting on whether to allow Police Officers in schools on that to come plus San Jose Police are now required to expedite public release of Police Body Camera video, a high profile cases, well tell you what led to that ruling. Theyre back and were seeing that busier traffic here like on 9 to 2 heading to the peninsula. This is your westbound drive and route 15 minutes and growing so little crowded here west of the toll plaza, but no major issues also no issues here from oakland to San Francisco at the bay bridge toll plaza stocked up from west grand but pretty decent drive for you across the upper deck were checking on highway 4 theres a crowd through pittsburg bay point thats normal 20 minutes antioch to concord a little sluggish for your emerging from to 42 on to 6. 80 there as you leave concord but no major trouble spots. Well check some more slowdowns and drive times coming up in just a bit back to you thanks a lot rob and 7. 18 and were talking a lot about coronavirus and about thanksgiving. Approaching and the 2 are not meeting at a very good time, no yeah, the cdc releasing some guidelines for the it appears a lot of traditions are probably going to be out of the question. So like you cant come to my house right familystyle meal where everybody passes the bulls in the plates do that dont cdc says dont pass the stuff thats number one Bridgette Bjorlo breaking down what the new guidelines are that you should follow. Its Health Experts with the cdc have it their way if youre people will be sitting around the dinner table this thanksgiving holiday as cases of coronavirus or across the u. S. The medical Community Fears that gatherings with friends and extended family will only drive infection rates up even further at a time of hospitals nationwide are becoming overwhelmed with an influx of new patients, im very worried about that because if we do get extended Families Together people from different households mixing together and if they are not social distancing and not Wearing Masks all the time. Then i think were guaranteed to see an increased rate of transmission and then a holiday like this is a recipe for disaster in terms of having a huge surge in the number of cases the cdc is urging americans to forgo tradition and live in holiDay Celebrations in members of your household also to refrain from traveling and if you must welcome extended guests to serve thanksgiving dinner outside. Making sure everyone wears a face mask and sit 6 feet apart, but we know that the virus is more concentrated indoors than outdoors so if feasible if the weather allows that it would be better to do this outdoors rather than any doors. And so you can you know for us in sacramento, for example, you might want to move thanksgiving Day Celebration to a lunch time when its warmer rather than doing that in a evening chief of pediatric Infectious Diseases at U C Davis Medical Center doctor dean blumberg says he typically postthanksgiving holiday in his Northern California home. But he decided not to this year for safety reasons and advises others to make a similar sacrifice. We love seen our extended family. And we made the difficult decision to cancel this year because of the risk of transmission. I think its important for everybody to act responsibly. So that you dont put yourself or someone you love increased risk of becoming infected. I think its been very difficult for all of us. But were all one community and i think we all need to contribute to stop the spread of disease. 7. 21 and for your money this morning americans are drinking more alcohol during this pandemic and a lot of hard seltzer is fueling the rise also disney will likely report a grim quarter for business today. And that resulted in an opportunity for these temperatures to fall quite significantly again timber on its a beautiful morning as it is for all of the bay area but those beautiful morning sometimes come with the coldest temperatures thats the case this one livermore 37 double in concord also in the 30s fairfield youre at 28 degrees right now and none of otto you were down in the 20s earlier. It is 7. 44 right now and we want a look outside the window and see how cold it is before you head out the door, lets say good morning a job find out morning. John id say just keep looking out the window stay inside dont get too close to it either because its probably chilly closer to the window is cold out there this morning, oftentimes this time of year when you see those clear skies. It sure does look pretty but its an invitation for some cold air to be push back into the bay area without that cloud cover that helps to shield us from heat loss overnight looking outside at timber on skies are beautiful and clear just as all your camera views are showing and it is one of our cooler spots to in fact once you head up into the north bay were seeing lows down in the 30s in 20s for some spots, dublin and livermore in the inland east bay at 37 degrees Half Moon Bay at 39 right now definitely more right along the Bayshore Novato youre at 34 petaluma right there with you santa rosa at 30 degrees right now and then get a look at fairfield at 28 degrees. We are looking at some 20s across rural persons of sonoma and napa counties this morning too. So it is a cold very frigid start to this day. Go ahead bundle up get that puppy us winter jacket ready to go if youre getting out there. Tomorrow morning we are in for quite a switch at this is tomorrow morning around the same time 09 30am right here on friday and we will be looking at some cloudy conditions across the bay showers to our north. Across northern mendocino and up into humble counties these showers eventually push their way our direction just after noon tomorrow with the north facing some light showers around lunchtime and then the rest of us getting in the mix with rainfall towards your evening commute home from work so as youre driving home from work or maybe starting your weekend with a trip up into the sierra watch out for rain in the bay and snow piling back up for a Higher Elevation areas saturday we drive back out sunday a couple of north bay sprinkles possible then comes tuesday and wednesday of next week the next push of rain after this friday afternoon into evening push of rain that i just showed you. The conditions tomorrow offering up not a whole lot of rain here but around a quarter of an inch possible in areas like napa san leandro santa rosa, Half Moon Bay and even heyward checking in with the possibility of around 2107 inch lighter amounts expected for areas like conquered, San Jose Mountain view and even San Francisco closer to a 10th of an inch some of our heaviest of rainfall to start the weekend will be in the very same areas that need it most to see that deep red across the Northern Tier the state stretching into northern apis a and sonoma counties that is extreme drought that has been expanding gradually over the course of this past few some of past few months. But that rainfall we saw last weekend and rainfall that will continue to see in this forecast is really going to help out with those increasingly dry conditions as far as temperatures go today, no big surprises here were back to the 60s across the bay a few 50s right along the coastline. Well hey were at 63 along with oakland conquered at 66 for the high today. Temperatures today tomorrow and saturday remain the same after that sunday we begin to see the numbers climbing and by monday and tuesday your warmest days of this forecast. Finally looking at a few 70s inland areas evening lows will drop into the 30s tonight and again on friday night into saturday morning. They in coastal areas looking at lows only in the 40s. I cant wait into those 70s return. Thank you john were checking in on the traffic nobodys doing 70 here into San Francisco. They won senate seats they werent supposed to so you just cant because its all on one ballot. You cant just pick and choose and say that was from this is not what we have done before. You get too worried about Transition Team republican congressman doug lamalfa says its within the Trump Campaigns right to make sure every ballot is counted. Once the winner is clear and official he says the transition can continue be. Ample time put something certification post litigation time mike leavitt, former utah governor and 2012 transition director for mitt romney says had to wait isnt ideal. But it is manageable and does not mean that the Incoming Administration can be a lot of planning and doing whatever they. Can to be ready leavitt says the Trump Administration can work with the biden team, even as election lawsuits continue look we can do both these things the same time.
