Charles Clifford Kron 4 news and its not just bay area businesses bracing for potential unrest. Rodeo drive in Beverly Hills will be closed to cars and pedestrians tomorrow election day and the day after to prevent the possibility of protests and damage. This move came as city hall encourage some businesses to board up those high end stores. Take a look at this video this is out of new york city protesters clashing with Police Yesterday police say the demonstrators were trying to confront a caravan of President Trumps supporters the confrontation escalated when Police Arrived to clear the protesters on the streets at least 11 people were arrested likely charged with disorderly conduct. Is your local election headquarters and we are now less than 24 hours away from election day and if youve been feeling a little bit of election thanks or anxiety. You are not alone youre not alone. In fact a study led by ucsf is. Tyne a dip in Mental Health to backing a losing candidate. Catherine heenan is here now shes the host of inside bay area politics and she explains catherine yeah, theyre saying that this is an actual thing i mean whether were headed for a Biden Victory or a trump victory. Millions of americans might expect a decline in their Mental Health, this if they live in the states which favor the losing candidate. The study by ucsf and Duke University look back at the 2016 campaign found that more people reported stress and depression. They say the situation is really prime for similar problems after this current president ial race. So we found that following the 2016 election. Until health worsened on average for adults living in states voted for clinton. We did see a similar worsening in states that voted for trump. I mean were talking about a 15 jump. Days of poor Mental Health on average for Clinton States in december compared to october 2016. And when you add that up that becomes 55 million more days part Mental Health in december alone. Theres so much going on right now in 2020 in terms of a covid19 pandemic and with a election that trips to be one of the most consequential recent history and so from a clinical perspective. I mean we we are really looking to see looking to make sure that our patients, her safe until cared for in the coming days and months, especially following the election. We dont know what the outcome will be and perhaps even 4 weeks, so there may beings id relate to that and our job and in health care is to make sure that were there for our patients and take care of them as well as we can support them through whatever stress or anxiety, they may be feeling. And again researchers are saying that this current election could put americans at an even higher risk for stress. And depression factoring in not only the pandemic does he mention, but also the economic downturn. Pam. Thanks catherine if you have any last minute questions or problems casting your ballot in locations around your neighborhood let us know well investigate you can email us at voting problems at kron 4 dot com. Well tonight as weve said many of us feeling tension excitement ahead of tomorrow as we try to figure out exactly what to expect on this historic election day with the pandemic so much is different this year including whether or not well know the actual winner of the president ial race tomorrow night join us now to talk about that via zoom is elections expert and professor don a train from san jose state university. Professor thanks for being with us every state has different rules on counting. So. Some states have already started counting the absentee and mail in ballots. But others wont start counting those until tomorrow, so. Any idea of when we might get a sense of which way this election is going it it certainly probably wont be at 8 oclock tomorrow night. Wow there are so many different possibilities for what could happen tomorrow what i start by recommending for all of your viewers is may be subtle and pace yourself be a little patient, its very possible that if theres a big blue wave or a big way we might know a result tomorrow night, but it is much more likely that we wont know until wednesday or maybe even as long as the weekend because youre exactly right several key swing states will not start counting. The ballots that they received in advance of election day until after election day so we need to just control our emotions here and you have some patient expectations of course you heard the president s claims of fraud if he is not declared the winner of the winner tomorrow night. Weve also heard that both sides both president ial campaigns are getting lawyered up as they say so what if there is no final tally tomorrow night which is likely then what can we expect wednesday thursday friday. Well its i think most important to remember that many many president ial elections are not known on the on the night on Election Night so this is totally normal its also totally normal for the campaigns to lawyer up that is not a problem i think you know were experiencing some unusual activity here in the rhetoric from the president is certainly. Raising some eyebrows shall we about voter fraud and things like that, but everything i have seen and i spent a week as a full observer and tells me that things are going really smoothly in some cases slowly because were seeing absolute record numbers of voters but things are still going smoothly. The election. So far is free and i think that everybody keep their wits about them were going to have a result. Souness maybe wednesday. Professor what potential glitches tomorrow we always have concerns about technical things happening with ballots that raise questions about that. Plus you you know. Possibilities of voter intimidation people showing up with some of these caravans or potentially with open carry where people can actually go vote with their guns strapped to their do you expect to see any glitches like that tomorrow. I think it you know in a in a nation that has 50 sets of election laws and then many of the states of course send their Administration Responsibilities down to counties you end up with hundreds 100s of variations in how elections are run across the country inevitably there will be glitches that happens every cycle is not nothing to panic the poll workers are professional they are nonpartisan and are there to be problem so i think we will see some places with long lines in some places with electronic with us thats just natural, i dont think thats going to start the process. Dont think anyone is going to compromise the and solar lea there any instances of voter intimidation. The poll workers are there are lots of opportunities for people to make sure that the elections carried out in free and fair there are not partisan voting observers at the department of justice has a hotline i think its possible we may see some couple of which weve seen in days up in just the last few days but i think with the exception of some some glitches here and there its going to be a smooth process. First on a train from san jose state university. We certainly appreciate your time and your hope youre right thank you so much. Final stretch before election day tomorrow both President Trump and joe biden spending time on the campaign trail until the last moment, our washington dc correspondent alexandra le mon joins us live from wilmington delaware, so alex how did that joe biden spent his final day and what do you think the strategy is on this last day before the election. Ken pam good evening. This stage right here in wilmington, delaware is where joe biden is expected to make his Election Night speech tomorrow night. But today he did spend the entire day on the campaign trail and the strategy is twofold number one the biden team really wants to get to every single voter who did not cast an early ballot yet and get them to vote in person in a safe way tomorrow and then secondly, joe biden is really focusing on those key battleground states that for a long time were considered to be democratic stronghold, but that President Trump won by a very narrow margin in 2016 and actually both joe biden and President Trump are really focusing on those states in the midwest for example like michigan and wisconsin. But also the state of pennsylvania that has become very heated in this race for the presidency. Joe biden his running mate Kamala Harris and other members of the biden team just fanning out across the entire state of pennsylvania today because it has 20 electoral votes and again President Trump won that state by such a narrow margin in 2016 and then joe biden has a personal time to pennsylvania. He was born in scranton and he really believes that he can win that this year. Alexandra you mentioned pennsylvania and michigan of course they are key for this president ial race there also say its where we may not know the results tomorrow night can you explain for us exactly why. Sure absolutely there are some key states that could go either way like florida for example that were able to start counting the ballots weeks in advance those absentee and mail in ballots that have just been pouring in around the country that is not the case for pennsylvania or michigan. They are not allowed to count single ballot until election day thats when they can start counting. Those thousands of absentee and mail in ballots. So its going to take some time weve actually talked to the secretary of state in michigan for example, she says they want to make sure that every a ballot is counted accurately and so theyre going to be careful and take their time now i do want to mention this is very normal every single election. There is one state or another who may take a couple of extra days to count all of their ballots. So theres nothing unusual about it if anything theres just more mail in ballots this year obviously because of the pandemic alexandra i dont know if youve had a chance to talk to very many people with the Biden Campaign here we are. On the eve of the election. The finish line is in sight. Whats the mood was see energy how are they feeling about tomorrow. Well the biden team says that they are very confident, and they seem to be confident about some really surprising States States like texas that the biden team believes is at play thats pretty surprising thats not a state thats normally at play for democrats and also georgia and the reason that you know that theyre serious about those states is president barack obama was in georgia today, campaigning for joe biden you know you would allocate a resource like that unless you really thought it was up for grabs, not just for the presidency, but also in the senate races in that state, so itll be a really interesting dynamic if we see states like that actually flipped that would be quite surprising. But those are the types of planes were seen the biden team make at the last minute. Alexandra le mon thank you so much for your insight from the campaign trail. We im sure well see you tomorrow and coming up at 6. 15 we will go live to the Trump Campaign and see how mister trump is spending the last night before the election still ahead President Trumps relationship with doctor fauci. Might be hitting a breaking point why he now says breaking news just into kron 4 San Francisco firefighter has been injured and is in Critical Condition. Going in the wrong direction. Doctor fauci says well survival rates are Getting Better the country could soon surpass 100,000 new coronavirus cases a day and after a spike in deaths last night, trump said he was going to fire doctor fauci and that wonderful at an ohio rally monday joe biden insisted Americans Trust fauci more than the president i got a better idea elect with a higher doctor fauci. According to a recent Morning Consult poll, a majority of americans approve of doctor fauci is Pandemic Response but that number strongly different along party lines 79 of democrats said fauci has done a good or excellent job, but just 56 of independents and 54 of republicans so they want to do you turn on the news covid covid covered its unclear if the president has the power to actually fire fauci the doctor is not a political appointee hes a Civil Servant who has worked under every president democrat and republican since reagan in washington Raquel Martin. Well we want to get a check on our weather were just talking about this song called change in the weather by buddy guy or john fogarty. And lawrence thats the song were going to be singing right, i think certainly by the end of this week well be talking about it in a much colder air on the way. Well well see a big change in the weather coming our direction kind of active out there in the pacific just what we want to after a very quiet, beginning to the season is october stay dry. The entire month now, but you can see High Pressure start to move a little further to east and you can see a series of these storms developing off the that strong but theyre helping to break down that ridge and moving further east and that should begin to open up the door to some major changes as early as this weekend temperatures today still well above the average checked in at 77 degrees in San Francisco today 81 in oakland 80 degrees and san jose 85 in livermore 84 degrees in concord in 86 degrees in santa rosa all these numbers well above the average take look at another nice night out there tonight, see a couple of clouds there in the distance in fact some fog sitting off the coast line to add some high clouds up above but a major change is going to begin to occur here in the next few days weve got those clouds gather along the coastline will feel that effect. I think tomorrow is the watches temperatures, especially along the coast and just insi e the bay start come down a bit but more weve got this next front approaching the coastline unfortunately runs of that ridge starts to fall apart kind of getting chewed up by that ridge only behind a couple clouds as it moves on through, but then starts to move that ridge further for the east as we get into friday. Were watching this storm system drop in this could be a very cold system coming into the gulf of alaska, unfortunately doesnt have a whole lot of moisture with it a slight chance of maybe a couple popup showers maybe over the mountain tops think thats about it but behind that kind of opens door another cold blast comes in not a huge rainmaker either but very well could bring some showers the bay areas we get into sunday and then another one after that the door kind opens up and you see weve got yet another system just kind of knocking on the door as we head in toward the following week so big changes coming away overnight lows going to fairly cool in the 40s and the 50s they go to the next couple days though you have nice change in the weather coming our way as those temperatures going to go these may be only in that one hour in the 20 degree drop in the 60s as we head in toward this weekend as much cooler air coming in and maybe a couple of showers to make it to the song for final sweaters i havent seen it okay they all right john kroger t when i see the rain or Something Like that next as we head into the holidays amid a pandemic. Some traditions are changing to keep everyone safe house santa plans on virtually visiting kids this year. Familys meeting santa and malls and photography studios is a holiday tradition, but this year of course will be different to keep everyone safe malls across the country are planning to keep children at a distance and use plexiglass while other malls plan to keep kids distant, including santa wearing a mask when North Carolina studio is limiting one family at a time and well use some christmas magic of sorts editing children in with santa either on the couch or inside a snow globe. So dont be photographed in a wintry scene already but then well move the kids to the couch and beyond her actions later well get to see the cloud to be like. Yeah. Kind of cool to be saying in a snow globe santa. Santa says this shows he really is watching and doing all it can to visit as many children as he possibly can this year.
