Were a little warmer this morning than yesterday. But this air mass is not necessarily that warm us actually been on the cool side. Heres noting some of this fog cast if you will thats right a little bit of fog has the kind of mix out a little bit at the surface. That moisture has helped out a little bit its nice to have it that its mixing out and permanently for the next several days. Waking up to about 50 is going on, but of course we see some lower 60s even mostly cloudy little bit of a breeze by high noon will be shifting over to mostly sunny. There is some cloud cover to deal with upper 60s at that by the mid afternoon when the lower to middle 70s coming up a little bit here, well walk you through the winds. Good morning welcome back to the kron 4 morning news weve been talking about the red flag warning for the bay area taking effect later today and dave understand this is going to take effect in phases right. Yeah, the first phase will cover those Higher Elevations thats going to kick in this morning and then were getting into the lower elevations as we get into the evening hours of course the winds will come kind of in between all of that really picking up this afternoon youll be feeling if youre out and about knowing era comes so lets get into a first our beauty shot starts off with a live shot of whats going on in Half Moon Bay, a little bit of fog you know what the coast is what were dealing with early on beyond that point we also have some cloud cover a lot. Yeah clouds kind of weird well you can kind of see that dry air moving in here as we go forward mid afternoon. Boom there you have a bay area opens up finally so we take care of the clouds were starting things off in kind of mostly cloudy know mode until we get things cleared out temperatures kind of mild with all these elements weve got lower 60s but mostly upper 50s across the region, lets get into the winds. Boom here we go we film up in the north bay, particularly this say by this afternoon into the evening hours and thats where everybody overnight gets involved in it. You know these kind of winds we typically see a little bit more often with an onshore wind event with a low dropping out of the gulf of alaska from one of those winter storms this will be briefer but it will be offshore in the air coming our way has actually been on the cool side being warmed a little bit buyer topography that we call compression ul heating as it gets channeled into valleys and that tends to warm up the temperatures is what happens as santa ana winds down south. So we kind of shake off the winds a little bit by we get to monday night through tuesday. And all the way out to about tuesday evening. We have kind of a variable wind event if you can see these arrows here the kind in all Different Directions and coming in on short even 2. Well that doesnt se m to impress the moisture levels well get to that part of the forecast first things first the kind of low even though we have a little in the way some fog but more loft cloud cover were dealing with then we get to the afternoon okay, its here are clearly this air mass is over us that we get to later in the forecast period, you know when we start getting those onshore winds trying to work in here all we get is 20 relative humidity. Thats about it and temperatures in london will be well into the 70s in the afternoon hours. And were going all the way up to thursday and were not seeing in a recovery typically we show you this map youre going to see some green around the bay and were not seeing that all the way to about thursday. So temperatures a bit on the mild side today we like that were finally getting a tumble feel with a 68 San Francisco, 71 covering oakland 69 meanwhile for san jose forecast highs today will do a little warmer than that later this week but weve got some of the lower 70s theyre off to the east bay santa rosa, as looking at 75 the coming up in a bit well be checking in the 4 zone forecast give you an idea whats going on your neighborhood but the take away for does for most of the populated areas, those winds kicking in here by this afternoon marty. All right, hey we have some Big National News for you this morning, the chief of staff for Vice President mike pence has tested positive. For covid19 for others of the avp is close advisers have also tested positive earlier in the week. Kron 4 is your local election headquarters this election season. We are now just 9 days away from the november, 3rd election. As many as 52 million americans have already cast their ballot. Either by mail or through early voting and that includes President Trump. He voted in person in palm beach florida on saturday morning, heres the polling place. Im looking for a guy named trump. Well after he cast his vote the president got back on the campaign trail attending rallies in North Carolina, ohio and wisconsin. As he spoke in wisconsin. The president claimed the u. S. Coronavirus reporting system was quote a little bit backwards and that hospitals were over classifying deaths from the virus. Some countries report differently if somebody sick with a heart problem and they die of covid they say they died of a heart problem if somebodys terminally ill with cancer. And they have covid. We and you know doctors get more money and hospitals get more money to get this incentive. So some countries do it differently. If somebody is very sick with a bad heart they die of covid they dont get reported this covid so then you wonder, gee i wonder why the case is a solo. Discuss tree and the reporting systems are really not doing a drive. Well the president also said that he would make the drug that he said he took to fight the virus quote available to anyone who needs it. The president is referring to regeneron which he was given when he was infected with the virus earlier this month. Democratic president ial nominee, joe Biden Campaigned in the battleground state of pennsylvania and he had some star power on hand, including jon bon jovi who put on a small concert at the rally. A pennsylvania of course is a key state for both campaigns. Biden tried to appeal to the natural gas and Oil Companies that contribute thousands of jobs in the keystone state. While at the same time promising not to let private companies exploit federal resources. I would do not i will not ban fracking i said no fracking on federal land the coal and knew she knew Natural Gas Industry and oil is not going to be fundamentally changed. Theyre already in transition, what im saying is that we will not continue to subsidize give tax breaks to the Oil Companies which are amount to 40 billion dollars. Next biden will head to georgia to try and flip that state blue is well its something that hasnt happened since 1992. Early voting is officially and theres been a huge nia turnout so far all told more than 6 and a half million californians have already voted and were still 9 days away from election day. Kron fours phillipe djegal reports from San Francisco civic center to check out the turnout on the first day of early voting. Area voters are not taking any chances with their vote for the upcoming president ial election, heading down the stretch people are stopping by vote centers in droves, honestly i didnt feel comfortable dropping them off at the post probably felt that are doing in my in delhi own and her partner adam kim dropped their vote by mail ballots off saturday at the votes Center Located outside the bill graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, Everyone Wants their vote this election california secretary of state says that so far more than 6 and a half Million People have voted by mail so far in this election and then across the country we know that more than 52 Million People. We it is an obligation of the boss, its especially proud that their 19 yearold son voted for the first time one of the many young people exercising their civic duty and seeing them being more involved yes and thats really excellent pay workers spent their final day at a popup book center at the cow palace in daly city but more will remain open in San Mateo County through election day. The dexcom gives me that knowledge and it gives me control. It gives me power to be who i want to be everyday. Morning welcome back as california continues to lift coronavirus restrictions theres still some people who feel that one area has been overlooked and thats youth sports, parents and coaches are outraged that you sports are still not allowed and they have a message for state and local leaders kron fours kayla mills has more on that. We just want to see really answers like we. We dont really know when were going to get to play again and thats really scary. I was a teenager. Scary frustrating and isolating is how these marine county soccer players described the last few months of the pandemic theyre acting having interaction is really. Really helpful to your personal health and without that its kind of like harden especially with online learning. Now they are at home and on your screen all day. Its just even tougher as california moves forward with reopening, theyre still no word on when youth sports can resume its very frustrating knowing that people can go to amusement parks and movie theaters and we cant play. Sports which is a huge part of our lives, the golden state is one of just 2 in the country that are allowing competition and these High School Juniors worry it could impact their chances of playing in college. Its really stressful. Its really hard seeing teams are on the rest of the country who are playing games. And it makes us feel like were falling really far behind because when we do get to play actual games in College Coaches get to be there. The teams have been playing together for months will be so much farther further ahead of us mom holly casey says she and other parents have tried to reach county and state leaders with little success. She says it seems like you sports have been put on the backburner. And its gone on for far too long not just sounds absolutely ridiculous to me. So its really frustrating and the fact that it just hasnt been addressed since august and were now getting to the end of october. Its a failure. I feel like on everybodys part. Well i was callum mills reporting for us this morning now the Governors Office said it would have an update on new sports policy coming up in the next couple of days. The latest threat whats already been a very destructive and historic fire season here in the bay area. Kron fours dave spahr is in the Weather Center. He has more on that day. Well good morning morning, good morning, everyone, its the familiar ones that we get this time of year is coming through the mount diablo or blow range like this. By the way the red flag warning is going to come in some phases and stages its covering those Higher Elevations of the east bay hills up to the north bay first this morning, Santa Cruz Mountains as we get to this evening or early afternoon, rather and then by this evening everybody is getting involved to take us into tomorrow morning. Again in phases it will then be couple from us but thats just the when part of the forecast later on the drier air is going to stay in settle which is not exactly what were looking at now this as a shot of Half Moon Bay and it shows that cloud cover kind of lingering around were seeing this even inland happening a little bit too. So the fog has been raised a bit and that has to mix out what the drier air which will get here by this afternoon temperatures in the 50s in the 60s kind of an interesting sidebar with all of this we have some freeze warnings up north of lake county thats in the windshield areas going on for tonight because of that dry air. It allows temperatures to really tumble at night too. Were looking at the temperature change from yesterday. Its a good bit higher than it was this time from yesterday here quickly to kind of note some of that fog as i mentioned before look how it clears out as that drier air pushes through. Down in monterey bay looks like that the way into the afternoon to get some clearing going on so our forecast reads like this mostly cloudy to start this live shot coming in from the bay bridge toll plaza, most readings in the 50s by high noon were getting sunny, but theres still some windy conditions got him in the 60s near about 70 in by this afternoon, sunny and when the woodwork temperatures again in the 70s coming back were going to head take a look at the 4 zone forecast for you as well as extent that marty alright dave thanks a lot. We have more on our top story this morning that red flag warning of course prompting pg and e to warn about possible Public Safety power shut offs. The broken bone, dry climate combined with powerful winds have fire officials very worried. They say the wind could be a stronger Even Stronger as those during the devastating 2017 wine country fires we want to go live now to kron fours reyna harvey shes reporting for us in Berkeley Reyna. Marty a lot of families waking up this morning and theyre having very Difficult Conversations around the breakfast table not ask themselves if we lose power. What are we going to do how were going to go about the rest of our day the kids at school we have work how are we going to get things done on the other hand i were to break out in our neighborhood where are we going to go and do we have all the items we need well, theres never really a straightforward answer to any of those questions but we can tell you what areas will be potentially impacted by this pg any outage more than 90,000 residents in the bay area could be affecting you see here in Alameda County right here. 39,000 more than that out in Contra Costa County. More than 20,000 marin county 19 over napa county more than 15,000 santa clara and Solano County thats 4 1000 Sonoma County 38 plus San Mateo County 4,000 now a lot of residents are trying to get prepared. Theyre trying to get ready. I was mentioning in the last hour you saw lines at gas stations and Grocery Stores that were literally wrapped around the block in some places ive been talking to people who may lose their power and heres what they have to say. Well see what this fires have been doing really people all around. California and even across the u. S. , you so if the house to show to avoid but then show them a juice. Whats the property. I think its walk grounds that people up green zone, so that they can saw up there with i really need to read a Health Conditions that can be without power. They had to you know we could have a backup plans to make sure you know really its definitely worth it in my opinion. Right so you have some people who are split down the middle on this lot of people understand that these are steps that pg e has to take and then there are some people who might have medical conditions like you mentioned who will be especially affected by the Power Outages so stick around with kron 4 because well be bringing you updates all throughout the day the moment morning. Lights start to go out in certain areas will be bringing you live updates on your phone make sure your devices are charged because well be able to get through all of this together but for now reporting here in Berkeley Reyna harvey kron 4 news all right rain and speaking of updates, well see you with an update in about 30 minutes, thanks a lot. Experts say there could be a longterm impact on schools financially this will definitely be a concern for many colleges and students are of course the source of revenue and that there are faculty and administrative jobs that are at risk and some may be at risk of closing down as for kristina she feels like she made the right decision waiting a year to go to college. She wants to see what happens with the pandemic in the meantime she works 2 jobs and is cheerleading a lot of my friends are going to college and there. Well that just looks eerily familiar to what weve been dealing with in the bay area doesnt that was matt mauro reporting for us this morning, Authorities Say they recovered the bodies of an elderly couple who were killed on wednesday, when they decided not to evacuate. And instead stayed in their homes. Well dave, you know we were talking about this fire in colorado and its so on to see fire there when theyre expecting snow fall any day now. Youre the again the backside of this system they got the precipitation part of it and then behind it comes this dry but cold air i say backside of the low means the western side in our little part of the world here in the Northern Hemisphere. And you can see what happens even when you have snow coming down you can still have a fire threat so its a very bone dry air you heard them talking about it that we want to drive home paula trump wells trial. Well 2 heres a live shot and we have moisture around still in the home front at Half Moon Bay cloud cover going on yeah were going to see that in the Morning Hours all over the bay until this mix is out. But meanwhile, everything that youve been hearing about theres the circulation off to the rockies now typically when some system like that comes through in our Northern Hemisphere get moisture and so far the head of it this is basically it what we have right now hopefully was rain but it did become that way then on the backside of it pulls that cold dry canadian air down. And boom thats going to be rushed across the bay area most of the week ahead. Temperatures for us were in the 50s 63 for oakland most readings again in the 50s support a little bit by cloud cover and a bit of a breeze as well but getting to those winds. This is what goes on as we go all the way until monday morning. Just about everybody is covered by these really lofty winds look at that Coverage Area quickly they dissipate but will be banking off of or left with a very dry atmosphere really all the way until about thursday or so with all this going on futurecast for now we can see the kind of keep away game as trier extends all the way into the pacific a little bit. Then comes another way another system hopes of getting maybe some rain out of this it looks very promising, sorry trick or treaters us on saturday, ok but maybe well get the rain if we get something on saturday afternoon way upstream these model sometimes tease us on that well see if that comes together and that its somewhat dry behind all of that, but we dont necessarily see another wind event per se setting up 4 zone forecast checking into your sunday 68 San Francisco, the coast will do about lower 60s today, daly city at 67 lower 70s covering the peninsula bayside down south into the lower 70s. These are lofty numbers 72 for palo alto 67 from mountain view. But its windy and dries the take away 69 san jose 74 morgan hill cupertino at 69 with a piece and the east bay shoreline to the south hayward coming in at and 74 richmond, up in the north bay Solano County lower 70s this Little County meanwhile, the looking at 7174 benicia 70 also for napa rosa in mid 70s, heading down south 7 day forecast. Well do the inland areas here were getting up to close to 80 for wednesday thursday dropping down hinting that front coming our way they temperatures meanwhile, theyre going to be resting pretty much in the lower to middle 70s at the coast. Well get out of the 60s into some lower 70s smarty alright, dave thanks. And she said let me find out and then we that she told me we both looked each other she said. Its a shoot dead have leonard and his wife, marianne have voted in every election since they moved to high point almost 4 decades ago. Every 2 years they vote early at the deep river rec center. But this year mary ann was not listed as a registered voter she was just flabbergasted by the fact that she was off the roll urias confused and worried. Oh my goodness, this is a year when so much is going on and so much has happened. And so many people have died the thought of possible voter fraud. Popped into my mind after several polls to the county and state board of elections. The leonards found out a clerical error caused marions mixup the state sent a list of people who passed away to Guilford County and there happens to be a woman with a similar name and birth marianne it is just a warning to people to be cautious if youre mailing in your vote you would never know this pat tells fox 8 he and his wife will be sure to look up the registration next time and encourage others to do the same so you dont want to go on election day and find out that youre not eligible for election. Well thats a good warning for all of us isnt it. That was Michelle Wolf reporting. Now luckily, this in this case. Mary ann was voting early and she had time to re register and then vote again if the couple and waited until election day or if they voted absentee they say her vote likely would not have been counted. News station. Youre watching the kron 00 04am morning news. And that red flag warning goes into effect at 4 oclock this afternoon it will last until tomorrow morning at 11 the entire bay area is now on high alert. As strong winds could leave thousands of people across the bay area without power. Good morning, everybody welcome to the kron 00 04am morning news on Marty Gonzales is sunday october 25th want to get right to the Weather Center to find out more about this red flag warning the high winds and everything that goes with it thats going expire heidi a good morning morning, good morning everybody and because of the dry diablo winds. We there is going to be a problem with that with the red flag warning coverage covering everybody as we get into tonight and through tomorrow morning. Beyond that point were going to be banking off of a dry atmosphere for a good portion of next week even app we shake off the winds, the winds are going to kind of spurt of in a basically 12 to 18 hours or so. Live shot coming in from timber on we can see the cloud cover this morning. Yeah thats right weve got cloud cover and even fog aloft. That will mix out as this dry air just literally pushes its way into our zone weve got 50s and some lower 60s at work right now, a redwood city that some bad data there. But 56 san jose and 53 for fremont were head where we were from yesterday this time a couple degrees a little warmer up theyre actually up in the north bay aided by some winds most of the reading of the winds is coming on shore or variable with that later on they will all be pointing from the north east or north. As we get the surge of wind so weve got 50s going on this morning, mostly cloudy windy and keeping quite a bit of cloud cover around maybe perhaps for noon, but it will be getting windy at that time sunny for everybody by this afternoon into the 70s, not necessarily a hot event going on, but definitely windy and dry well get into the forecast bit marty. All right dave thanks a lot now lets get more on our top story this morning that red flag warning the daves talking about is prompting pg need to warn about possible Public Safety power shut offs. Now the bone dry climate combined with powerful winds have fire officials concerned and they say the wind could be as strong or stronger as those during the devastating 2017 wine country for fires. We want to go now live to kron fours reyna harvey shes in brooklyn with the latest for us marty residents are trying to get a ready you see it in those long lines at the Grocery Stores on the gas stations like you mentioned officials trying to warn residents to be ready and get that bag near the door he have to leave a moments notice now officials are not just afraid about the potential for fire to break out in 4 to spread rapidly affecting large forces of the bay area because thats a major concern but theyre also afraid at this wind could potentially bring down branches and then scaffolding as well as tense so that would make it really troubling for people who are driving and in a lot of these neighborhoods if they do lose power if you have all of those items scattered about you could potentially get trapped in an area so those are also Major Concerns that theyre saying to put on your radar most of the bay area will be affected by this red flag warning that the north bay mountains east bay hills also along the Coastal Regions out in santa cruz in the mountains so no one is exempt. For what is about to happen in the next few hours now officials are giving us an urgent message take a listen. There are red flag warning has been issued for the berkeley from 11 00am sunday to 05 00am tuesday october this is really due to the combination of strong winds and low humidity and dry vegetation which enables wild fires to spark and spread after the into we want folks to be prepared. You know that the hills. Is challenging train to evacuate in in so early preparation is the best preparation. Mean we are no stranger to these power shut offs or are we strangers to any fires breaking fortunately here in the bay area so kron 4 news and kron on well make sure to bring you coverage throughout the day as soon as that electricity anywhere in the bay areas disrupted will get a notification on your phone about kron on and well be bringing you that to make sure your phone and your laptop and other items are charged, so you can have that information readily available. For now reporting here in Berkeley Reyna harvey kron 4 news before we let you go rain it looks behind you looks like things are calm right now is that what youre sensing not feeling much wind yet. Yeah mardy the weather out here right now is so deceiving its actually really cold out here, you know what were going to get those strong winds just a few hours thats going to add to all of that and its going to be up to totally different scenarios peaceful now, but it will be another story in just a few hours monday. Yeah, what a difference. A few hours makes thats reyna harvey reporting for us live from berkeley will continue to check in with rain throughout the morning. Now on to other news this morning, some parts of the east bay are closed because of the expected high winds the east Bay Regional Park District says 11 parks will be closed both today and tomorrow Officials Say that high winds can cause trees and branches to fall possibly injuring visitors. You can find a list of which parts of clothes you can find it on our website at kron 4 dot com. Our coverage of the red flag warning continues now in the north bay thats where 10s of thousands of people will likely be affected by power shut offs because of the high winds that are expected later today so cal fires reminding everyone to be ready to evacuate at a moments notice. Cooler should not for you they keep the fire season is here and it is really typically this time of year that we actually experience or was damaging wildfires around the home you should be preparing to evacuate identify your Important Documents your valuables sent them all in one location put them in your car even suggest that you back your car and take it out of the garage in case you lose electricity that way you have quick access to your vehicle and you can evacuate quickly. Its good advice in Sonoma County more than 39,000 pg e customers are expected to be in the dark beginning later on today, cal fire has crews and equipment across the region, theyre ready to respond should a fire break out. And coming up this morning on the clock for morning news, this Oil Tanker Crash caused a big fire prompted evacuations in the east bay well have the latest on that for you coming up. So far there have been more than 8 and a half million cases of the virus in the u. S. Since the pandemic began with more than 224,000 people who have died from covid19. Lets take a look at the latest numbers around the world more than 42 million cases, globally in the u. S. As we mentioned more than 8 million cases now in california there are now over 904,000 cases and here in the bay area more than 111,000 cases, dave ok, well talk about the red flag warning up on balance this afternoon is going to feel like a nice kind of almost springlike day with a bit of a breeze kicking in here hour thats going to turn a little nasty by tonight with dry air moving into the region what forecast rob what if people with type one diabetes had the power to manage their condition without fingersticks . Good morning, welcome back 8. 13 this morning and weve been talking about the red flag warning for the bay area that takes effect later on today and dave i understand its going to be in phases that right right thats how theyre going to install it its going to start off first in those Higher Elevations, its going to kick in late this morning and then by this afternoon like Santa Cruz Mountains and then the lower elevations kick in for tonight for everybody. And then start to become lifted as we get into the late Morning Hours on monday but still will be around for some of those Higher Elevations, a little later than that want to give you the macro view the whole wide view you can see the clouds starting to move in precipitation. This direction is kind of ahead of our frontal boundary behind that spilling in thats on the western side thats where that cooler but drier air is moving in getting some compression ul heating and thats that blow when were very familiar with live shot coming in from walnut creek, everybodys kind of dealing with cloudy skies to start but again this dry air is going to clear out that elevated fog. Heres another shot of a 2 and future cast for Going Forward with this we can see the fog being suppressed down by the dry air spilling in basically having its origins in central canada. Temperatures for us when the upper 50s for right now santa rosa 53 east bay shoreline hayward 5953 for freeman and 56, san jose. So lets get to the winds now its going to like a spring breeze to start over good chunk of the region, however, up say about noon hour. So it starts to get a little heavy there in coming from the wrong direction offshore. Look at all the arrows pointing north easterly and northerly all the way until monday evening at about 6. Now from that point the winds start to left and we see a little weak event happening of winds kind of variable or coming from a good direction from the south or even on shore in some areas. But its going to do little effect for the humidity levels thats the major factor the kind of carries the ball beyond this its not just the one hit and then were done its that were left with this dry air place basically in place so here comes in no mistaking that by this afternoon and evening. This is over night to monday morning as you can see this is when we get quote recovery and typically we color in green and there, but its far too dry for that so lets go forward here. This takes us out to tuesday overnight. No recovery, no green as you can see. Wednesday we go out to thursday, no recovery still were still backing off of a dry atmosphere humidity levels in the teens luckily for that point we will have winds but well still have that dry air forecast today, were taking care of the Morning Clouds turning mostly sunny at 68 San Francisco, 71 for oakland and san jose your check in at about 69 for a high dont forget those winds are kind of mixing up in interrupting heating plus the origins of the air mass is a little bit cool mid 70s off to the far east bay, rosa. And a quick check in your 70 forecast we see a little warmup happen by the end of the week also for the bay side mid 70s and at the coast were talking lower 70s marty. All right dave thanks a lot. We have some Big National News this morning to tell you about the chief of staff for Vice President mike pence. Has tested caught positive for covid19 4 other of the v ps close advisers have also tested positive earlier in the week. Both of them often travel with the Vice President , but both of the Vice President and his wife tested negative for covid on saturday. The Vice President s president s office says he will continue to campaign. Mike pence of course the head of the White House Coronavirus task force and these positive tests of once again raising new questions about covid safety protocols at the white house. Election headquarters this election season were now just down to 9 days from the november, 3rd election and as many as 52 million khalaf people around the country have a cast her ballot either by mail or through early voting and that includes President Trump who voted in person he was is in palm beach florida saturday morning. Im looking for a guy named trump. And no big surprise there after he cast a vote. The president got back on the campaign trail attending rallies in North Carolina, ohio and wisconsin. When he was in wisconsin. We and you know doctors get more money and hospitals get more money to give this incentive show some countries do it differently if somebody is very sick with a bad heart they die of covid they dont get reported this covid so then you wonder, gee i wonder why the case is a solo. Discuss tree and the reporting systems are really not doing a drive. Well the president also said he would make the drug that he said he took to fight the virus available to anyone who needs it. President is referring to regeneron which he was given when infected with the virus earlier this month. Meantime democratic president ial candidate joe biden was campaigning in the battleground state of pennsylvania. He had some star power on hand including jon bon jovi who put on a small concert at the rally. Pennsylvania is seen as a key state for both campaigns and biden tried to appeal to the natural gas and Oil Companies that contribute thousands of jobs in the keystone state while the same time promising not to let private companies exploit federal resources. I would do not i will not ban fracking i said no fracking on federal land the coal and issue new Natural Gas Industry and oil is not going to be fundamentally changed. Theyre already in transition, what im saying is that we will not continue to subsidize give tax breaks to the Oil Companies which are amount to 40 billion dollars. Well next the Biden Campaign will head to georgia to try and flip that state blue is well its something that hasnt happened since 1992. And the senate will be holding a procedural vote later today and a final vote tomorrow on the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. Barrett won crucial backing this weekend from one of the last republican holdouts against filling the seats so close to the election. Thats alaska senator Lisa Murkowski who says she will now vote to confirm barrett because she doesnt want the to hold that i mean against a nominee who so qualified. Democrats are still trying to stop the vote, but they simply dont have the numbers to do so baratz confirmation will give the Supreme Court a 63 conservative majority. And still ahead this morning, a woman is begging for answers after her mother was hit by a car and then left on the side of the road. Well have the latest on the investigation coming up thats after the break. A fairfield woman is baking the person responsible for her mothers death in a hit and run to come forward Rowena Shaddox has now the latest on the investigation. She was just left there, you know you wouldnt do that to an animal. And it just makes me sad chorus stewart continues to grapple with the thought of someone hitting her mother with a car then leaving her on the side of the roadway. A neighbor noticed her mother namie stewart lying in the street and contacted police no one has taken responsibility just come forward i theres no illwill no bad intentions at you know. Thats not where were at it and its understandable if it was an accident it happened torres says her mom died after doctors tried desperately to save her. Im so used to hearing her voice and not hearing it for the last couple of days. Has bothered me her parents made fairfield are home in 1963 after her dad got out of the military and continued working at Travis Air Force base she says it wasnt unusual for her mother to be Walking Around even at night because she was a night owl. But when she hadnt returned to the house after several hours cora went to her mothers own home about a mile away she wasnt there so she called police but they had nothing to report and then about 45 minutes later get you know that really loud pop because i called police got or you know and theyre bringing her. It was the corner. Yesterday morning. So we just said that she was involved in hit and run accident. And that she passed away. At the hospital cora says not only is namie missed by her family including her 2 sons of people loved her she was friendly she talked to everybody she was extremely personable and she loved well as Rowena Shaddox reporting for us this Morning Police have not yet released any information about either the car that was involved or may who may have been behind the wheel at the time of the accident but they say that theyre still investigating. Well coming up straight ahead, were going to get an update on that red flag warning and the potential power shot office that are facing the bay area later today days are keeping an eye on that and i didnt choose this job because it was easy. But i cant say i expected this. To fight these fires, we need funding plain and simple. For this crisis, and for the next one. Prop 15 closes tax loopholes so rich corporations pay their fair share of taxes. So firefighters like me, have what we need to do the job, and to do it right. The big corporations want to keep their tax loopholes. Its what they do. Well, i do what i do. If yould like to help, join me and vote yes on prop 15. Good morning, everybody welcome back to kron 4 morning news a red flag warning has been issued for the entire bay area beginning tonight as the strongest winds of the year are expected later on today. This is yet the latest threat and whats already been a very destructive and historic fire season. We want to get right todays 4 in the Weather Center with more on this tape. Okay good morning marty good morning, everybody and besides the just the winds were going to deal with thats what basically covered the red flag warning were going to be dealing with dry air really into much of the balance of this week coming up ahead. Again too just to reiterate the point the Coverage Area is everywhere in the bay if kicks into different areas. By tomorrow morning that are 11 00am today that for those Higher Elevations for the lower elevations will be by tonight live shot coming in from Half Moon Bay, one of the other factors happening is we have fog or aloft. This cloud cover that we have to deal with first that should makes a push on out with this drier air by this afternoon most readings are in the 50s we have some lower 60s out there to open for example in 56 for san jose. But on balance were a little bit warmer this morning than yesterday showing that drier air moving on in future cast for shows us. But its gets pushed out in monterey bay by early this afternoon will be shifting into a mostly sunny mode. This live shot coming into the bay bridge toll plaza 50s going on here mostly cloudy little windy by noon. Were sunny also a little breezy 60s at work upper 60s at that and some 70s for this afternoon of wasnt for this a problem course winds will be a little with that and some perry areas. It would be a nice day but were dealing with very dry air that will be problematic. We come back a little bit well cover also that in your 4 zone forecast to give you an idea not particularly hot. But remember bone dry air coming our way that is problematic marty alright, dave thanks a lot. We want to get more on this top story from a reyna harvey shes in the east bay this morning with that red flag warning very close to home for people there because of the conditions and the wind thats on the way lets get the latest now from reyna harvey reporting live from berkeley marina. Marty good morning. Its still pretty calm right now, but like i mentioned that all could change so want to know if everyone at home has those to go back packed in may be. You might forget something so i did google list we have water in your to go bag do you have a year extra batteries, a cell phone backpack charged. Do you have bandaids you have a first aid kit these are all questions yet to be asking yourself. Ahead of this wind condition also flashlights because its lights do go out you will be able to see anything if you forget anything where you just cant think right now because youve a lot on your plate go ahead and google that just make sure you have all those items that you need, but we have a list of different areas that are going to be affected by this potential power outage and it is across the bay area nearly a 100,000 people may be left in the dark thats a lot of people mardy starting here in alameda hansi over 39,000 customers out in Contra Costa County about 20 1000 marine county 19,000 napa county over 15,000 santa clara county. More than 4,000 if you go to salon or sonoma, youre looking at over 1038 there in Sonoma County said the tale more than 4,000 and its a lot of people that may not have powers has to go bags are key. Were talking to people who may also have their lights turned out live here in the area take a listen. Well see what these fires have been doing to really people all around california and even across the u. S. , you know the west so if the house decided to avoid potential damages. Whats the property. I think its walk grounds that people up green song so that they can saw up there with i really needed here Health Conditions that can be without power. They had to you know we could have a backup plans to make sure you know really affect its definitely worth it in my opinion. All right so another question a lot of people have right now is how long is the power going to be out if it does go out again. Theres still things that pg and easier to answer so we well be tracking that for you also marty i learned firsthand not having that plan in place and that bag and order because you know ive had my lights shut out for day and you know you dont really ever get a chance to plan prepare for that so make sure your cell phone is charge you have those devices that back up things got a place that maybe you can go. Someone whos not affected by the power shutoffs so just want to coordinate and be in constant communication with your family and loved ones. For now reporting here in berkeley rail harvey kron 4 news rain is so much to keep in mind. But its also important, thanks a lot for that live report well check in with you in about 30 minutes. Also in the east bay traffic was at a standstill for hours all because of it happened on a stretch of interstate 80 in richmond, it was a gas tanker. That exploded and caught fire. It prompted some evacuations in the area kron fours Jonathan Mccall has the latest on the investigation. And how all this happened. They could have been very catastrophic caught on camera a well the flames surrounding the front part of this oil tanker. The scene playing out on the west lanes of interstate 80 near Hilltop Drive just before 11 oclock saturday morning. The flames, the aftermath of a crash between that oil tanker in a motorcycle appears that the accident occurred several 100 yards behind where the tanker ended up and that the motorcycle was under the cap. And the tanker truck so something caused a spark and something breached the forward of the 2 tanks on the tanker truck so we had gas on the ground and we had a source of ignition and thats how the fire started richmond fire battalion chief know a brownlow says the tanker carrying some 8,000 gallons of fuel at the time. Off towards the distance what we can see from the whole perspective is ahead of this system, theres all the moisture you can see down to the south but behind it and you can actually see some of the but prince out here in the ocean yeah, this is offshore winds happening. All up north and thats going to be coming down across the bay area through today and will be clearing its throat very loudly with these winds in this dry air mass will be in place to the balance of this week ahead temperatures now we got the 50s over most of the bay 53 santa rosa nap at 57 59 for hayward another note about temperatures by the way were looking at freeze and frost warnings going on up north in windshield in areas because of this dry air and that may be something we want to watch over the next couple of days because were going to be left with this dry air okay, heres how it comes into town. Lets watch it what it does into this afternoon boom notice all the arrows pointing from the north or from the northeast right across the real estate here and hefty with those winds as well as you can see gusts well into the 40 mile per hour range and you get to the Higher Elevations, and theyll be even higher than that as well and we do shake the winds off it looks like by tuesday by into tomorrow or even really by late on monday night. We dont see much happening after that we have a little bit the way some variable winds on tuesday afternoon. But the bigger issue will be again the dry air that remains in place futurecast for as we try to look for any rain upstream, theres a little promise here maybe by christmas thanksgiving by a halloween night. Maybe perhaps during the day on saturday mike a sprinkle or 2, but were kind of tease by this last go around so well see that actually comes together like this your 4 zone forecast for today, 68 San Francisco along the coast, were looking at 60s for the bayside getting to the lower 70s, there 71 for burlingame meanwhile, heading down south in the southern end of the peninsula, somebody to palo alto redwood city at 71. In santa clara valley, were looking at 69 for san Jose Cupertino as well milpitas at 69 is well east bay shoreline to the south approaching about 70 and very similar to tri valley to lower 70s cover us there as well lot uniformity with temperatures because of these winds mid 70s cover us in Contra Costa County walnut creek for example also conquered 68 for berkeley 74 richmond Solano County also looking at all the lower to me approaching middle 70s, 70 or so for napa in santa rosa at 75 mid 70s, heading down south. We see a little bit of a warming happening later on during the week period notice how drops off a little bit on saturday winking at that next front bayside responds as well we get out of the 60s into the middle 70s, it looks like by midweek and into the coast lower 70s or what you can look for mardy. It is so tough to imagine the scope of the destruction from the latest wildfire to ravage napa and sonoma excuse me. Recovery is under way but because of the pandemic it looks very different compared to past recoveries our travel enthusiasts dana redmond joins us more with more on that now dana, it is so good to see you again its been a while. Good morning worried, those fire images are hard to forget. Yeah know the counties that are even anything in recent years, its not they are resilient. Why countries beginning yet another recovery process, theyre just like Everything Else in our lives this year its going to look very different and wineries are open being very very hard to welcome folks that are traveling again so Many Properties like Flowers Vineyards and winery in healdsburg ca always boasted beautiful outdoor tasting settings all of the beautiful time to be in wine country take advantage of the outdoors we we always have and i are seniors in sebastopol their tasting their tasting bar is outside your route that youre going to be outside whether you go in february or so youre going to make the trip to wine country that hes planning making reservations walking appointments are really limited and you dont want to forget that mask you probably i was going to ask you about that about the distance seen in masks and Hand Sanitizer all of thats in place there right. Its everywhere youre not going to go anywhere and not see Hand Sanitizer and again this it becomes the responsibility of travel now. 3 year masks practice, social distancing you come with your coming with someone it should be someone in your household or your bubble. And all to be responsible and talking about reservations which is what you mentioned is the smart way to go. How big a party or a lot of the winerys accepting now. Its honestly its very from property to property and a lot of it has to do with how big of an outdoor space in many instances, the winery winery can offer so thats something you really want to check as well i would say if you have to average it probably not any bigger than cents or is probably more the norm, ok sounds good right, lets move on to lena. Yeah, if youre not ready to travel thats fine. There are there are lots of ways you can help why country without coming to so its a very accustomed to getting wine shipments in the mail. Thats certainly not new and the like countries getting creative these days and theyre pretty experiences in boxes is the best way i would put it just a bottle of wine, this is rain in the news, they offer cant wear your wind maker for the day that youre doing youre doing it in your own home which is a lot of fun so along with the 4 bottles of blending why. Youre cylinders graduated cylinders, youre getting thats youre getting blending workshops. Their their virtual components for those that are interested but its just kind of a fun way at home. Youre not just opening the wine and taking a drink youre actually experiencing whats going then i have to tell you i love this idea on how you can make your own blends and them then of course brag to your friends right. Yeah, absolutely and can see its bringing that experience home a little and the clintons line and do your own homemade make it a little less intimidating Percent People depending on the type of for now do you have and what he was someone else do the hard work thats fine too cliff family been years they produce wind they also produce organic partisan and those short yeah, well they put huge number of cats, you know if youre looking for a wedding gift set if youre looking for barbecue fun, a pantry starter. Theyve got all sorts of options to choose from and lots of different price ranges so thats something whether its for yourself or for a guest. And its certainly not just wineries and wine makers that are in on this distillers are getting creative sure young and wander spirits is a distillery, theyre located near downtown heels. Birch, they were one of the first distillers when the pandemic hit to keep Hand Sanitizer rolling. I remember that thats right. Yeah, absolutely will so they can have their tasting are open right now so theyre doing cocktail of the month to kiss. Okay, exactly everything you need is in there everything from the syrians to lime juice simple syrup even the nice fancy garnishes that i could new going change the rim and so its something and any plan it becomes kind of experience whether its in your own kitchen or your living room or sitting under self and what is what does that cost enough. And you have that 65 and you know something when you hear that maybe that sounds like a lot to keep in mind cocktails how much would you pay for a cocktails if you were out somewhere in the area thats an excellent point yeah weeks and months and youre one of the things this is the season why 100 we would normally be having harvest parties and and and you know all sorts of gatherings, many have been postponed so have been canceled and jay vineyards did what they thought was the next best thing and it was really creative. They took their virtual east side of knoll dinner the chef created a 3 course dinner everything was prepared you just shake up. When you got home you he did it at home and you enjoy it with 3 bottles of wines you got up he could help beautiful the vineyards picked all right coach and fancy dishes cauliflower soup with poached lobster short shes kate was with stays. Instructions are simple they even gave directions on how to play and then you called in you know virtually and spent an hour with the chef and the winemaker and i really like what a giant that is i absolutely you know it was it was a fun meeting and you know were weve all done so many zooms these days, yeah of the sun about this is everyone wasnt muted so everyone really was talking to each other and yes to get noisy a times sure but there was that social aspect of the evening was a different sure it was the wasnt entertaining absolutely. Yeah and dana it just fits in with what were dealing with now everything is different nowadays. Absolutely but you know why country striving to give us all these things that make us smile and in the bay area now is theres never been a better time to take advantage well, i really love the fact that so many of these businesses are our being so resourceful and branching out into other things and its great to see how people when they have to are coming up with these wonderful ideas. I absolutely and you know we just really this is just the surface. There are so many more wineries businesses tasting rooms and whatever and highly recommended people if youre interested in you have a favorite winery a sea bird is still are in line look at their website give them a call. Im sure theyre doing something creative and it may be theyre not theyre going to have suggestions on other businesses that you can support yeah fantastic tips. Youll see that just about everywhere even in downtown San Franciscos very much possibility to course that 10th these any time you get up to about. 40 Miles Per Hour lot of folks will see gusts like that easily this is what were talking about though there is a spurt of winds coming late this afternoon evening overnight. Through tomorrow morning and after that the bulk of the when program is over, but again those Higher Elevations, yeah you might get him up to the upper 60s as a potential there. This is the live shot coming in from timber on we store dealing with the warning cloud cover the morning fog that aloft. Heres the up close and personal shot of the golden gate to the flag is kind of limp there so we dont have much the way of winds yet. They will be pointing in offshore direction later on this afternoon temperatures pretty much in the 50s and 60s as a sidebar know too you folks up north way up north lake county for example, youre looking at potentially some from frost and freeze warnings going on in windshield in areas from all of this too we can actually get an idea this dry air moving through on future cast for this is the cloud cover in the lower moisture gets pushed out by midafternoon that will be the dry air that will settle in stay with us the wakeup planner well well start things off mostly cloudy as youve been seeing most temperatures are in the 50s by high noon were getting through the 60s should see the sun up of the wind building through this afternoon sunny with temperatures into the 70s now coming up. Well take a look the 4 zone forecast but also kind of plot for you this so when arriving and also that extended forecast as well marty in the well. All right, thanks a lot and with that red flag warning comes of course the threat of a Public Safety shut off you know we are joined live on the phone now by melissa sub oaten from pg and east and give us a little bit more detail about what areas theyre paying attention to the most melissa. Thank you so much for joining us. Usually were only focused on either the north and east bays or the east bay in the south bay, but this high fire danger really is impacting all of us here. In the bay which areas are you guys closely keeping an eye on right now. Good morning, thanks for having me get this is that. Pretty significant pretty widespread and were making it to impact. At close to 4. 40 county. Right now were looking specifically at around 36 to 38 county. Number here in the bay area. And the highest probability for areas that yeah, yeah and i include terrain of the northern and western sacramento valley, the northern and central here well as higher terrain of the bay area including in a creek mountain Central Coast region and portions of tarrant county. Wege been hearing in berkeley where theyre advising people to to evacuate ahead of the possibility. Of a what about the Berkeley Hills area and power shut offs. Berkeley Oakland Hills area. Yeah, im not able to be cannot i dont have information the recommendation but i can tell you that the county attorney for currently monitoring here in the bay area alameda. Hunter call them are in napa santa clara, a law now and now and work by thing that the public a few power shut off boat county would begin. Some time this afternoon and extend through the evening. This afternoon early this afternoon or around 04 05pm. Yet though. No go one way and so we do have some Public Safety power shot at getting the morning. For northern part of our service area only baghlan humble shop to county that area. But for bay area were looking at this afternoon that could begin early in the afternoon industry, the key thing. The customer should should check on our piet yeah website the great tool you can put in your address look at your think think find out when the anticipated time or the energy station and booked her for you and potential recreation time that got on flash he of 8. If one of the greatest tools we have for our customers to go in. Up to date on the latest information. I understand a lot of the customers receive notification on which would be quite early it seems like pg and e has gotten this part of the down in terms of just notifying people. Thats right, you know were really aiming to give our customers as much notification as possible. Beginning in some instances when possible 72 hour 48 hour and you know in in some instances covered may be notified in it. Well in advance and then it turns out there at yeah, yeah event may not necessarily be called to area but its really our goal communicate is the minute we get it is kind whether sit down. Materializing and looking like theres a really high probability in they could be impacted and we do our best to communication of them get high email. In some instances even go door to door. You guys have also been pretty good at making them shorter this year i know last year a lot of folks were pretty frustrated with how with the length of how long their power was shut off how long are we expecting this round of psps is to be for people. Its our effort this year to make our event moller inside shorter in length and murder for our customers. A week and a lot of time reviewing. You know how we communicated and duration and scope and events from last year and have committed que to really evaluate and you are back to be at the fifa possibly can. And again make the event smaller in size shorter in length and murder of them are. Melissa without getting too technical how are you able to do that. Weve taken several different approaches weve upgraded our electric that them to prevent major wildfires and reduce the number of properties affected were working to reduce the amount of time the customers will be without power for the yeah yeah event we understand how different the evidence for our community be without power year were working to make that yes yes, but then. Easier on customers by providing better information and resources for them and the community before during and after the event. Are there more crews out to help restore the power or because that we do know there was a report that came out just about a week or so ago saying that now 90 of your staff is trained on the psps process whereas last year that was not the case so it is is it more crew out there is that what allows it to be shorter. Yeah, absolutely we have taken several that hugh deploy more a cruise for inspection and recreation effort. We have nearly doubled our exclusive news helicopter fleet from 35 to 6 65 the year and were you think you airplanes that infrared cameras that are capable one of the trolling and acting the transmission lines that night so it really ramp up those resources and the minute that were given the allclear when have subsided we have crew mobileye in position to begin patrolling that we can restore power it enough that it could you tell. Roughly how long does it take to restore power once its been shut off. Again it varies because we ate we conduct our psps event. In some instances like this one in in different ways depending on how the model but you realize where the wing. Are coming in over urban area. But were expecting for this event that we should be. Thing the winds subside on monday with in some instances they could linger through tuesday. But were looking for a weather all clear how the early as monday. With power being restored and ages monday night through tuesday night. Okay. Melissa that website again for people who might not have themselves signed up for the alerts. He came in the dot com. Get it, yes, short for Public Safety power shutoff of media dot com slash. Yeah, and just to go back to your last question how the power the board. When we have that weather all clear we begin patrolling, we isolate and repair any damage that we well begin restoring power. In a possibly can and will be getting that notification doctor happened i go. Were encourage customers to take the lead i look for those notifications and hopefully those winds are going to die down. Tomorrow we can begin that process if we can. Yeah above all lets hope that theres not a whole lot of damage that pg e crews have to repair so electricity gets on much more quickly. Melissa thank you so much for joining us and sharing this its going to be a very very busy next 24 hours or so. Thats right thanks for having me. As Melissa Bodden from you need. And well have more information on our including the link to a pg and es website as well, definitely well Officials Say that the wind could be as strong or stronger than those during the devastating 2017 while one country fire sets right kron fours reyna harvey is live in berkeley shes talking with some people who could be dealing psps reyna. Martina well, im so glad youre able to talk to pg any and kind of get a time frame on how long the powers going to be out thats a major concern for a lot of people most of people here in the bay area know that their power could potentially be shut off. Now theyre just trying to figure out how long is there food going to go bad a lot of other things now out here the wind is starting to kind of pick up there was no when maybe about 30 minutes ago or so but now its really starting to get a little gusty out here as you can already see some of that wind starting to taper into the bay area, especially here in the berkeley area the major concern for a lot of officials not only is the fire risk, but its also. The lands in the trees that potentially fall down the loo scaffolding as well as the tents in the area a lot of residents going to the store trying to grab things and get prepared. Officials are telling people to make sure they have their id. Their water. Definitely have a change of clothes if they can in that to go back if they are asked to leave ive been talking to people who may have their lights off in just a few hours take a listen. Well see what these fires have been doing to really people all around california and even across the u. S. You know the west so if the house decided to avoid potential damages. Whats the property. I think its walk grounds people up green song so that they can saw up there with i really needed here Health Conditions that can be without power. They had to you know we could have a backup plans to make sure that you know really affect its definitely worth it in my opinion. Nearly a 100,000 people could be affected by this so if its not happening directly to you i assure you you probably know someone who may happen to were going to bring you full coverage throughout the day so make sure you stick with kron 4 for now reporting here in Berkeley Reyna harvey kron 4 it is all right thanks for that report. Good morning dave ok, lets talk about nice now for a couple days so and heres a look at high temperatures we have projected across the region not particularly very lofty but its coming with winds and dry air mass as well, your 4 zone forecast and then extended along the right to the kron 4 morning news tips. Im jerome gage. Im a fulltime lyft driver. When this pandemic first started, i bought my own ppe because uber and lyft didnt provide it. These companies have been exploiting drivers like me for years. Now prop 22 denies us basic rights like Unemployment Benefits and sick time. Uber and lyft are billiondollar companies, and they still wont let drivers get access to Unemployment Benefits. Thats just wrong. Tell uber and lyft to stop exploiting their drivers. Vote no on prop 22. Good morning. Welcome at 9. 44 this sunday morning weve been talking all about the red flag warning for the bay area its going to get windy later today, it starts at 11 00am dave spahr standing by in the Weather Center with all his fun new tools to try and get us as prepared as possible for this safe. Well good morning guys, good morning, everybody and dry air will be plowing across the bay area this afternoon. You know were getting a live shot of whats going on right now from the shot from timber on as we see the golden gate off to the distance. It will be just like a regular type of sunday going on here as we start with the Morning Cloud cover it breaks up. And then kind of a springlike breeze starting to build but its going to get a little nasty by the Late Afternoon is starts to get just downright windy because of the change of the guard. So weve had a system that moved through from yesterday give us a little bit on shore flow and thats what were looking at in the southwest, but behind it. Yeah, its that offshore flow and this is actually cool but dry air coming in from canada and when it comes across the rockies like this it gets compressed a little bit and it gets heated artificially by the time it comes across the diablo range for us the diablo winds. 50s we have in the inland valleys for right now some lower 60s as you can see in the east bay shoreline for now, lets get to those winds though in some timing ideas here. Yeah, its pretty much of the afternoon monday morning as you can see all the arrows pointing from the north in the northeast. Frozen here about 1 oclock and were still dealing with winds even at that late time period by the afternoon that should start to subside in as far as a factor of winds are concerned we dont really see them too much more upstream is kind of variable wind event that rise to happen here as we get to the middle of the week, were still stuck with the dry atmosphere in its wake all the way to the end of the week it looks like. Lets watch what does happen towards the end of the week air as we go through the whole week its pretty dry. This is interesting little front comes down from the northwest thats very familiar its winking at us a chance to be picking up a little shower or 2, but it will usher in onshore wind so that recovery in terms of the marine layer that were very familiar with. Well well be getting some of that by the time we get to the end of the week as far as getting any rain or so maybe be nice well see what happens with all of that in the success of system behind it. 4 zone forecast cover your sunday here 68 San Francisco remember the winds are going to interrupt some of this heating today too got 60s along the coast for the bay side its lower 70s to the north heading down only into the lower 70s and all of that. Meanwhile the santa clara valley, upper 60s looks like 74. Morgan hill 69 Milpitas Santa Clara at 68. Down the east bay shoreline to the southern end 71 for example for hayward upper 60s lower 70s and tri valley, lot of uniformity across our topography like this dont always see that very often but winds are kind of circulating things mixing up very nicely 74 walnut creek and concord 74 richmond up the Solano County. Same kind of deal lower 70s just about everywhere you see somebody going on for napa and for santa rose at 75 mid 70s, heading down south. So your 70 forecast does have a little warm remember this is going to be with dry air tuesday wednesday thursday getting close to 80 or so, but it does kind of fall off towards the end as you can see when that front gets here meanwhile the bay side mid 70s by midweek and for the coast scratching into some lower 70s back to you. I was in that beautiful, youre listening to a virtual concert from the santa rosa symphony. Its all part of their santa rosa symphony at home series i love that the First Virtual concert was actually so successful theyve now set up a second date where they will be highlighting german composer and pianist beethoven will join us with more on this santa rosa symphonys music director and conductor francesco ledges chong maestro. Good morning, thanks so much for joining us. Good morning, thanks for having me here i have to ask you about what its been like for the symphony and for you as the conductor to be operating in a vacuum with no immediate audience response. Well, you know 100 normalcy and second stanzas it would of course be very awkward on not have our audience to be having the musicians you know 6 feet apart from each other and the masks and all the various a logistical challenges we face, but it feels so good to perform again after 7 months away that really all that just fall by the wayside and its just amazing to make music once again. Well because you know when youre in any sort of performance and youre watching it you theres a feeling of the atmosphere around you write that you really want to make sure that the audience feels so. But you you guys being that you guys being that excited to to come back does that just help bring out that atmosphere again. Absolutely i didnt even really occurred to me afterwards on it just felt like a performance because we were doing what weve been waiting so long to do and just the energy within that stage was fantastic and knowing that our audience was going to get to see brand new way with all these moving cameras in these different angles. I think it kind that experience knowing that eventually we would reach people write in their homes in a very intimate way. Tell us a little bit about the performance itself because you have a variety of music youre going from a ragtime with scott joplin youre going to the andes for some music from peru. You also beethoven and we want to hear a little bit of that before we get your response. Well its so nice to hear and its interesting to see the musicians all safely distance but also all wearing masks. Yes indeed, mean it was definitely needed pretty much every day of the 5 months of planning that it took. Yeah make sure that we were going to able to get on stage together and a whole community after from our musicians to our staff and crew on board and sponsors everyone really believing that this was the right thing to do that then trina into the unknown like this would would eventually be able to bring music to our community again. Talk to us a little bit about yourself youve been conducting since you were 16 years old that is so impressive. Thats absolutely i mean its been really fortunate to work with a lot of great conductors and do i work lot of great orchestras first of the milwaukee symphony pittsburgh symphony where i was assistant conductor and now with my first music in eugene oregon and down here in santa rosa just been very fortunate to work with great people all along the way. And one of the pieces that youll be highlighting will focus on the string section specifically your cellist. Yeah, you know part putting these is this program together as you want to put the feature on our musicians obviously we cant really fly or so the was from around the world in like we normally would for concert opportunity showcase the talent that we have an orchestra the future in a couple violinist on the work by di cheney and our principal cellist on the piece by max so overall youre constantly cleaner musicians forward and will continue to do that throughout this series this season. Whats your favorite piece. All this so hard you know whats been great about putting this program together is i just get to have fun with it it feels so good to make music and all these unique ways rather than having a very kind of set style what the subscription concert would be and thats why you know we have to the greatest living or poses right now Gabriela Lena frank and cheney on the program, the king of ragtime scott joplin and then were doing this and many beethoven cycle of the first 3 beethoven symphonies so actually the middle of that cycle here with the second symphony and i think these this many cycle because in these 3 symphonies we see beethoven venturing into the unknown and we think you what the symphony could be and quite frankly thats what were doing is the santa rosa symphony is combining a new way to bring music to people and i thought it was very cool to have connection between these 2 ideas these concerts. Well there is a certain symmetry there we want to let folks when and where they enjoy this concert. Its going to be a virtual concert on youtube and you can enjoy it on sunday november 15th at 3 oclock in the afternoon. It is free, but they will except some donations because of this goes to help the symphony and all the programs that it sponsors in santa rosa. And more information you can go to youtube or make the phone call on your screen. Francesco this sounds like a afternoon of beautiful music and thank you so much for joining us and telling us more about this. My pleasure, thanks for having me here today. 100 beef and hearty chili. Try my 5. 99 chili cheeseburger combo. Its pretty delicious. 100 beef and hearty chili. Try my 5. 99 chili cheeseburger combo. Its pretty delicious.
