The scene playing out on the west lanes of interstate 80 near Hilltop Drive just before 11 oclock saturday morning. The flames, the aftermath of a crash between that oil tanker in a motorcycle it appears that the accident occurred several 100 yards behind where the tanker ended up and that the motorcycle was under the cap. And the tanker truck so something caused spark and something breached the forward of the 2 tanks on the tanker truck so we had gas on the ground and we had a source of ignition and thats how the fire started richmond fire battalion chief know a brownlow says the tanker carrying some 8,000 gallons of fuel at the time. Nearly 3 dozen firefighters from 3 agencies helped to battle the flames with limited resources and no fire hydrants along the busy freeway. These positive tests are once again raising some questions about concerns of covid safety protocols at the white house. Still to come tonight here on kron 4 news at 10 oclock today early voting day encouraging everyone to cast their ballots as early as possible. We show you where folks here in the bay area brush to make their voices heard. And President Trump cast his ballot today as both he and democratic nominee joe biden are on the campaign trail. It must be nice to play by a different set of rules. In california, were the only state where wealthy trust fund heirs get their own tax loophole. These tax cheats avoid millions in taxes on vacation homes and coastal mansions depriving our schools. Prop 19 closes this unfair loophole thats been exploited by an elite few and helps our schools, firefighters, and seniors. Vote yes on prop 19. Tell them [record scratch] the partys over. Kron 4 is your local election headquarters this election season and we are 10 days away from the november, 3rd election. But for millions of americans that will not mean heading to the polls as many as 52 million have already cast their ballot including President Trump who cast his vote in person in palm beach florida. This morning. Im looking for a guy named trump. After voting the president told reporters that he cast his ballot in what he thought was the safest way possible. It was a big day of campaigning for the president he attended 3 separate rallies in North Carolina ohio, and wisconsin. Meanwhile democratic president ial candidate joe biden visiting his home state of pennsylvania today which is also a key battleground state. He had some star power on hand rockstar bon jovi giving a small concert during a drive in raleigh, performing 3 songs while also praising bidens response to coronavirus indeed whole shake with our sister station in pennsylvania has more. Joe biden knows full. Well the victory here in the keystone state could pave the way for him to win the white house and i asked mister biden questions on a wide range of topics the first involved his position on fracking what you want americans, especially those who are connected to the Natural Gas Industry and fossil fuel industry. What can expect under a Biden Administration should be elected. I would do not i will not ban fracking i said no fracking on federal land i will not ban fracking number one number 2. The cole an issue new Natural Gas Industry and oil is not going to be fundamentally changed. Theyre already in transition, what im saying is that we will not continue to subsidize give tax breaks to the Oil Companies which are amount to 40 billion dollars. They will not get that and that money will be put into research and development to figure out how to Carbon Capture which coming off of gas and and what about his plan to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. Look. Follows what the scientists are saying if we just were these mask we can save a 100,000 lives. I laid out a detailed plan. How we can open up businesses and how we can open up schools safely i asked the former Vice President about his son hunter biden and questions about his overseas business dealings. Questions and controversy continues to say about 100 bide your sons there is no controversy about his green is all right, its a flat lie because the president has nothing else to run on. If you notice and while American People are talking about whats happening their families. He has no plan to debate is no plan everything from the wall street journal of every other major out of this said what hes saying is simply not true about my son, but its its classic trump and biden tells me hes not read too much into polls. I asked him about pulling in 2016 at about the same time prior to the election in which Hillary Clinton was leading then candidate donald trump on feeling good about where we are lets put this in perspective. Every poll that were involved with is that has us in the lead and im not counting on and try to earn every single vote has this well beyond where Hillary Clinton was and every poll has be lower because so far the president has and said what hes going to do in his next 4 years that will change anything. That was also reporting for us tonight. Bidens Staff Members say they are confident they will be able to turn pennsylvania blue on Election Night. Sports which is a huge part of our lives, the golden state is one of just 2 in the country that are allowing competition and these High School Juniors worry it could impact their chances of playing in college. Its really stressful its really hard seeing teams are on the rest of the country who are playing games. And it makes us feel like were falling really far behind because when we do get to play actual games in College Coaches get to be there. The teams have been playing together for months will be so much farther further ahead of us mom holly casey says she and other parents have tried to reach county and state leaders with little success. She says it seems like you sports have been put on the backburner. And its gone on for far too long not just sounds absolutely ridiculous to me. The state. Why the case is the total now has more than 900,000 and there have been more than 17,000 deaths. Meanwhile, the virus has had an impact on every aspect of life including students headed back to school. But get this some colleges and universities say theyre now dealing with the impact of students who are now deciding to take the year off because of covid19 brian into has more. 18 yearold Christina Downey who lives just north of atlanta planned to be in college right now she graduated from high school was set to go to college in texas. But the pandemic got in the way and spend that much money to be do online classes. So weak. So theres one just to come home and do online and then we thought about it and send. Lets take a year. Its going dependent lee i didnt want to have to pay for school. For it to be on mine, i dont think the education is the same christinas story is the same as thousands of High School Graduates across the country freshman enrollment colleges and universities nationwide is down 16 from last year according to the National StudentClearinghouse Research Center overall were you surprised by these numbers we were very surprised by the first by the freshman number so concerned about the freshman is really mixed is is really there are now hundreds of thousands of freshman across the country who didnt show up for college at all this fall compared to last year. Experts say there could be a longterm impact on schools financially this will definitely be a concern for many colleges and students are of course the source of revenue and that there are faculty and administrative jobs that are at risk and some may be at risk of closing down as for kristina she feels like she made the right decision waiting a year to go to college. She wants to see what happens with the pandemic in the meantime she works 2 jobs and is cheerleading a lot of my friends are going to college and there. Mean i see all the stuff they can do with their fashion activities and sororities and it looks super fun. But i dont think im missing or anything because i can just do that next year. Brian into in reporting for us tonight. Experts also say that freshman enrollment has dropped by nearly 25 at Community Colleges all across america. This weekend on inside california politics, the push continues to reopen school safely, san jose mayor sam liccardo joins Nicky Lorenzo and Frank Buckley to talk about the effort from california mayors to promote change. When it comes to reopening schools. What we want is really decisions made by Health Experts primarily at the state or the county level who really understand the pandemic and its important this be driven by side. You can watch inside california politics at 6. 30 tomorrow morning right here on kron 4. Still ahead tonight here on kron 4 news at 10 oclock a North Carolina woman denied the right to vote because she was listed as being dead a mixup that nearly cost her her say in the election. Plus one of the largest wildfires in Colorado State history has now turned deadly. Well have the latest on that fire fight coming up. Also there is growing debate over prop 17 which would allow parolees in convicted felons, the right to vote hear from both sides of the issue after the break. Uber and lyft are like every big guy ive ever brought down. Prop 22 doesnt help their drivers it denies them benefits. 22 doesnt help women. It actually weakens Sexual Harassment laws, which are meant to protect them. Uber and lyft arent even required to investigate Sexual Harassment claims. I agree with the la times no on 22. Uber and lyft want all the power. So, show them the real power is you. Vote no on prop 22. Raleighs convicted of felonies could be getting the right to vote thats the idea behind proposition 17 which would affect 10s of thousands of california and some believe it gives parolees their dignity while others say it read victimize is the victims. Christina pascucci explores both sides of the issue. According to the california state constitution people on parole for felony convictions are not permitted to vote. The proposition 17 would change that i was convicted in 2009 for which i still my innocence frying or cheese served 10 years behind bars, im one of the nearly 50,000 in california who have completed their prison sentence yet dont have the ortiz says since hes been released last year hes mentored use pursued 2 degrees and worked multiple jobs while catching up on lost time with his family we cannot be labeled for worst mistake and that we made in life i pay taxes. I volunteer i give back to my community. The ones harm. But im no longer that person, the average convicted felon serves at least 3 years parole after release f rain will likely serve to in the free world sort of model person who was working on himself yet is still disenfranchised the Anti Recidivism Coalition says vote. Yes on prop 17 air sea works to end mass incarceration Los Angeles County supervisors hilda solis and sheila kill also say yes on 17. They offered a motion asking for the county support by the florida parole commission. They said that overall the city does a rate based on all released inmates at one time was 33. 1 while the recidivism rate for released prisoners who were given their civil rights back the ability to vote student 11 . But theres also strong opposition from victims of crimes senator jim nielsen says giving back right before parole is complete is wrong. Youre of grieving victims, theyre getting victimized twice issue here is justice society. And victims of the crime done. Theres irv just desserts that the sentence has been fully serve some of them are murderers and rapists. Very very serious crime. These are not low level offenders senator neilson believes this is a political ploy and says vote no on 17 so everything is now changing from being on the rights of the victims and the Rights Society to be rights of the ones who committed crimes and i think thats very much in the wrong direction of this is about really one thing democratic voters crime victims united also opposes prop 17. Despite repeated attempts to reach them they never applied. Christina pascucci reporting for us tonight kron 4 has you covered this election season for details on where you can drop off your ballot just head to our website kron 4 dot com. There you can find a map of ballot box locations as well as times for when you can drop off your ballot. A bizarre story on the North Carolina tonight, a woman goes to cast her ballot early but has denied because shes listed as being dead. Election Officials Say a clerical error is to blame, but as Michelle Wolf reports that clarification didnt make things any less confusing. When i went up to get my information the woman said her intelligible sophos said. I cant imagine why. And she said let me find out and then we that she told me we both looked at each other she said. It says you did have leonard and his wife, marianne have voted in every election since they moved to high point almost 4 decades ago. Every 2 years they vote early at the deep river rec center. But this year mary ann was not listed as a registered voter she was just flabbergasted by the fact that she was off the roll urias confused and worried. Oh my goodness, this is a year when so much is going on and so much has happened. And so many people have died the thought of possible voter fraud. Popped into my mind after several polls to the county and state board of elections the leonards found out a clerical error caused marions mixup the state sent a list of people who passed away to Guilford County and there happens to be a woman with a similar name and birth marianne is just a warning to people to be cautious if youre mailing in your vote you would never know this and tells fox 8 he and his wife will be sure to look up the registration next time and encourage others to do the same so you dont want to go on election day and find out that youre not eligible for election. As the shell wolf reporting for us tonight fortunately in this case because those because the woman was voting early. She had time to re register and had a chance to vote if the couple had waited until election day or voted absentee her boat likely would not have been counted. So they learned a lesson there also for everyone, especially with. You know early voting starting to wrap up so meanwhile lets talk weather switch gears now to talk about whats going to happen in next 12 hours things definitely will look different on sunday and meteorologist Mabrisa Rodriguez is tracking the winds that will be whipping on sunday, yeah they will so lets track these winds hour by hour and lets take a final check of your forecast as well we do have a wind advisory in effect.
