Now this fire burned very way too close to homes and a lot of people are still evacuated now here are the evacuation orders for South San Francisco. The mandatory evacuations include current million road. Sonia road Mountain RoadRidge View Court view mont harris thats where the mandatory evacuations are in place. Now there is an Evacuation Center that has been opened. It is set up at the municipal social hall at 33 arroyo drive in South San Francisco that is a temporary Evacuation Center. Again we have just learned that the fire while it was under control has just flared up in the past 15 minutes or kron fours Maureen Kelly is live there for us shes gathering more details and shell join us later on this hour to bring us the very latest information. Now lets turn now to our Weather Forecast because we have been under a red flag warning a heat warning. There are some dangerous fire conditions outside right now meteorologist Mabrisa Rodriguez joining us with the heat and also the fire danger good afternoon rsoph good afternoon just yeah lets switch to the maps because were actually acts to not max one. So lets which the graphics because were currently tracking. Current conditions right now with that fire. Lets take a look at wind speeds. No surprise there of the flare up because winds right now out of the northnortheast with gusts upwards of 20 Miles Per Hour 92 degrees out there so extremely hot dry gusty conditions and that is just prime conditions for red flag warnings in addition to the heat advisory that is currently in effect in that area and we do have some extensions as far as a red flag warnings go for the valleys of the north and east bay, its actually been extended from now through 6 oclock and for those of you in the mountains for the north and east bay hills that has been extended from now through 8 oclock saturday morning temperatures out there right now extremely hot widespread 90s triple digit heat for those of you in santa rosa. But we are noticing slightly cooler temperatures for those of you in oakland in the 80s right now because of that cool sea breeze and were going to notice the cool down as well for the San Francisco peninsula coastline as we start to notice the winds shifting out of the west in about an hour to adding some much needed moisture, especially right along South San Francisco, current wind speeds out there right now relatively calm but for those of you at fairfield seeing sustained winds at 20 Miles Per Hour relative humidity once again critical especially for the north bay valleys in the Single Digits as low as 7 by later today for those of you and yacht bill but tonight a little bit more moisture out there and that trend is going to continue through saturday because i am tracking a cool down this weekend with near average temperatures arriving on monday more my full forecast in just a few minutes justine back to you, thanks so much, lets learn now a lot more about whats happening in South San Francisco and the 2 fires that have started their today, well go live to kron fours Maureen Kelly shes in South San Francisco for us right now with the very latest information marine thats a lot of smoke there behind you is that the second fire that just started. Exactly just seen it. I was time here this and that a sale San FranciscoEmergency Command Center getting an update on the fire that was happening on sign hill but just minutes ago. You can see this second fire has erupted. Behind me now we know at this point that its a second alarm fire. Its on starlite road. And that is pretty much all we know it looks to me just from i can see that it is it coming out of maybe a warehouse you can see the warehouse in the foreground and smoke just billowing out i mean the smoke is so thick and so black. Now obviously as weve been kind of talking all day about the had the sign that was on fire with the temperatures going Industrial City well i think this is what were looking at right here with all this black thick smoke, this to me looks like some sort of warehouse obviously this is a heavily Industrial Area right here where does we have very Little Information right now literally this fire just started i just got out of the car to go live to talk about the other fire. Yeah i heard people start i heard the sirens going. Im thinking theyre just running over to put out a hot spot and everyone said oh no theres a second fire. So we have no idea if this is connected in any way to what happened earlier lets roll some video of the fire that happened earlier this afternoon. This shows you the fire at the 5 alarm fire. That broke out a glass fire on signing hill. Now it it. Yeah again comes out a lot of smoke from early in the day that could be seen all over. So San Francisco daly city it those snow blowing over the freeway. A lot of resources were pumped onto this fire because of where it is and its proximity to homes. In addition to the 5 alarms. There was also a cal fire alarm pulled. That got in air resources so fire retardant was dumped on that fire to help firefighters get a handle on it. Now many evacuated and streets in that area. And well get well get more information about the Evacuation Center in just a minute. But there it is definitely big deal a lot of resources thrown at it. Especially with the hot and windy conditions definitely been breezy. All morning today. Up until this afternoon and hot very hot for this part of town. And ill tell you that we do know that there were 3 homes on a Mountain Road. That suffered some damage. Lets take a listen to the fire chief describing what happened. So the fire did a bump up against a couple of but their were able to make a quick stop and knock it down before the fire got interior, so theres just an accidental damage to now so i can hear fire engines in the background right responding to the second fire. I can tell you that in regards to sign hill fire. Theyre expecting to allow people back into their homes by dark they think theyll be doing it in stages. But that that fire out on sign hill is contains. Cause of that fire is unknown at this time. But you know the iconic sign which is made out of cement was not damaged in any way now lets go again to behind me whats happening here again we do not know if this fire is in any way connected to what was burning on sign hill going to step out of the way here so you can get kind of a better look at this at this time im 10 2. We lost marines are there but we do have another camera showing us the starlight foxfire this is usually the camera that shows us. A San FranciscoInternational Airport but its being pointed now in the direction of the starlight fire thats burning in South San Francisco and this angle showing us. None of the airport there in the foreground but all that smoke thats there in the background thats the a second fire that started today in South San Francisco, the fire that marine cali was just reporting to us about Law Enforcement and the Fire Department are on the scene there at the second fire. Were told that it is a 3 alarm fire that started on starlite street were being asked to tell you to avoid the area trying to look at some apps to see what is actually in that section of South San Francisco. So we can have some idea of what is burning. But a lot of thick black smoke, pouring into the sky right now an indication that that is an active fire. Thats burning at this moment and as marines said its unclear if this is connected to the first fire that started that was on sign hill that fire. Did do some cosmetic damage to several buildings in the area all on Mountain Road, 3 homes. According to the city manager we understand had cosmetic damage that was on 3 homes a Mountain Road. Again thats for the original fire that weve been following since this afternoon that blaze though started just before noon fire officials said it was fully contained about 2 hours later at 2. Theyre still working to fully extinguish that fire and that Evacuation Center is open for anyone who needs to go there and again this is a second fire that has just started in South San Francisco that heavy black smoke going in the air right now the latest information that we have is that it is a 3 alarm fire we will continue to gather more information on this and bring it to you as soon as possible. As we get more details. We will see. Move forward now with some other coverage that were watching which includes the power shut offs that are happening all across the bay area. Theyre impacting customers and businesses a lot of people are really frustrated about this kron fours Charles Clifford is joining us live now from Half Moon Bay. Hes been talking to people about how theyve been handling the situation. Chuck what are they telling you how are they feeling about it. Well people are nervous, you know it is still very hot out here its in the 90s weve got a pretty steady and not a strong wind but a steady breeze blowing. Throughout the day here in San Mateo County there are a lot of people still without power across the county. As of friday afternoon more than 1600 pg e customers across San Mateo County remain without power, mostly in some of the higher elevations, but also businesses along highway 92 near happen bay without power, including this aqua pa knicks business which has large fish tanks and also grows produce here. They say they need electricity to run their fish tanks and when the power went out on wednesday evening, they suffered some losses, the owner tells me he is upset about this psps and sores neighbors, their pressure with that as well yeah, you know we we do have a the generator can count on so i had to go buy another generator. To to to make up for the difference of us this power outage has cost me in lost production in inventory probably about 10 or 15,000 now as of friday afternoon. Its unclear exactly when the power will be restored pg e says theyre working on inspecting the lines. Across San Mateo County and theyre hoping to have the power back on by 10 00pm friday. All right back live now at this afternoon i have seen pg e driving through the area inspecting lines as well as fire trucks driving back and forth keeping an eye out for any problems. But for now in San Mateo CountyCharles Clifford kron 4 news. Thank you charles will go now to our wildfire coverage, the glass fire remains at 97 containment thats according to the latest update more than 67,000 acres have burned in napa and sonoma counties and more than 800 homes have been destroyed. The Trump Administration is reversing course now grant in california a disaster declaration this after first rejecting the request earlier this afternoon Governor Newsom tweeted that he just got off the phone with the president and that the declaration was approved the governor added he was grateful for the president s quick response. Now this request comes amid a historic fire season here in california more than 4. 1 million acres have burned so far. Denials of relief from president ial administration are rare and Governor Newsom had previously praised the Trump Administration for approving aid related to the fires. Coming up a coronavirus outbreak has hit a nursing home really hard in the south bay will go there for a live reports also why you may not be able to get a flu shot at your local pharmacy. And polls are now showing joe biden is leading the president ial race, how President Trump can change this with just 18 days until the election. Were following several breaking news stories here on kron 4 news at 3 this includes a new fire that has just started in South San Francisco, this is unrelated we understand to the first tire fire that started around noon today on sign hill in South San Francisco. We understand that fire is under control, this is a second fire that has now started on starlite street in South San Francisco. Its being called the 3 alarm fire. A lot of fire crews and Emergency Responders are headed there now to try to get it under control. This is though a lot less smoke that we saw when we first check this fire out at the top of the hour. We do have crews headed to the scene and we are working to get more information on this second fire that has started today in South San Francisco. Other big stories. Watching right now include californias attorney general and secretary of state that will not be taking legal action against the Republican Party thats for now our State Capitol reporter Ashley Zavala explains the latest in this controversy. Over the gop is unauthorized ballot boxes. She joins us now live from sacramento with the very latest good afternoon, ashley. Hi justine yeah, even though its not going to play out in court. The battle is apparently going to play out in the public eye on the one side, the democratic secretary of state and attorney general say that the Republican Party is going to make some changes but the Republican Party is saying that these boxes are here to stay. The integrity and confidence and the vote. Here in california coming off the state attorney general and secretary of state say the Investigation Continues into the california gop unauthorized ballot boxes, the Democratic Leaders said friday subpoenas have been issued and discussions with the party are ongoing earlier this week sent a cease and desist order for boxes, they say violated state law the Republican Party said it would not comply despite their rhetoric in you know the Republican Party has agreed to do is to no longer deployed its is on staff and secured an official and unauthorized ballot drop boxes but the california Republican Party says its made no concession to the Democratic Leaders claiming the only requested information the Party Spokesman tweeted this is a thuggish voter intimidation and Voter Suppression tactic by our democratic attorney general and secretary of state trunk of their previous and move on. And we can put ballots in lock boxes inside businesses inside. Republican Party Offices and in some case volunteers are putting them inside churches which are places that voters trust. And deliver them. Its very simple. So in a call just now with the Republican Party the party says that they have not yet seen a single subpoena from the secretary of state or attorney general. They also say they will not be releasing where these boxes or how many of them there are. Reporting live in sacramento, Ashley Zavala kron 4 news thank you ashley and election day is 18 days away and the polls are continuing to give president ial challenger joe biden a significant edge Catherine Heenan the host of inside bay area politics talk to one of our political experts. For some insight and this is coming after those dueling town halls last night the dueling town halls all of that some question how much it will really matter just a lot of people have already voted. But meantime if the Trump Campaign is going to change the trajectory of this race. Professor David Mckeown says clearly theyre running out of time and while we might not exactly look at this political season as serene or an eventful mckeown says the president ial race has nonetheless spend stable ever since the 2 major candidates became the nominees. Even before joe biden became the nominee for the democratic party. He is in a head to head matchup had the health some lead against the president. But since the conventions late august, hes hel held a lead of around 6 to 11. 6 to 10 points consistently, so the stock price between the 2 candidates has been if you will stable regardless of what President Trump has done regardless of what weve seen really related to the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg regardless of whats happened with the positive covid19 diagnosis by the president the races stabilize that doesnt mean that joe biden wins it means that hes at a consistently and continuing to talk about the coronavirus pandemic the economy and health care, the wrapping those 3 issues together is presenting some development for the white house for how they message and how they turn around this race and theyre running out of time. What would the president have to do to turn it around. Have another debate. Book blog thats thats a you know i go after joe biden was a consistent message thats been one of the difficulties is the Trump Campaign has not been able to have a consistent message part of that is because the some some then so he goes ahead of the heat moves faster than his team by using twitter and social media. As of now anyway, barring some new drama. A final debate between the president and biden is set for next thursday night in kron will air the debate. One more concern for the Trump Campaign though poll after poll indicates that most voters have already decided as we said many of them have already voted justine. Thank you so much. Catherine lets switch gears now and talk about our weather again a live look now at our camera that usually shows a San FranciscoInternational Airport you can see it there in the foreground we pulled up a little bit so you can see the smoke thats still coming out of the second fire that started in South San Francisco this afternoon that is being called the starlight fire. And were noticing the smoke really billowing out there right now but away from San FranciscoInternational Airport and thats because were getting more of an easterly flow as opposed to the cool sea breeze that we typically see 92 degrees in that area with relative humidity. In the teens so extremely hot dry and now breezy conditions in addition to that we have a heat advisory in effect from now through tonight, red flag warning in effect for the valleys until around 6 oclock this evening, but it has been extended for the north bay hills and east bay mountains and hills in those areas through 8 oclock saturday morning. So lets take a live look outside San FranciscoInternational Airport and were still noticing that billowing smoke out there in the area moving in a northerly and easterly direction, temperatures for the most part widespread low to mid 90s in fact, san mateo 93 degrees, san jose also in the mid 90s for those of you in oakland getting a little bit of that cool sea breeze influence. If you head into your local pharmacy inquiring about a flu shot. Its possible. You may run into some roadblocks demand for the vaccine is high leading some offices to run out of supply. But that does not mean there is a vaccine shortage or shortage of needles and syringes. The centers for Disease Control and prevention says flu vaccine is produced by private manufacturers, so supply depends on them. The cdc says manufacturers have projected they will supply up to 198 million doses of influenza vaccine for the flu season. The cdc says well no significant delays have been reported in some places robust demand for vaccines and supplies like needles or syringes, may mean some providers may run out of shots and supplies before their next shipment has arrived, but more will be ordered and eventually the supply will be expected to catch up to demand much like how Grocery Stores struggled to keep their shelves stocked during the early months of the pandemic there was no food or supply shortage just gaps in supply keeping up with demand phillipe djegal all kron 4 news. For decades conditions in california Nursing Homes have been terrible. Terrible because of poor Infection Control and bad staff think not enough people working at these places and it is very hard to keep people safe treating them with covid for covid when they have those kinds of preexisting problems already in these facilities in a statement the facility said quote we have and will continue to purposefully augment our systems with new ways to operate. We do understand the p g has restored power to about half of the customers who are impacted during the psps this includes customers and alameda contra costa. Monterey santa cruz and solano counties and some others throughout the bay area. Whats the latest on restoration efforts. We all still be we just received update and we are at approximately 70 of our having been restored with just approximately 12,000 customers remaining out at this here in the bay area Alameda County and Contra Costa County are both a 100 restored Santa Clara County is 99 restored Solano County is 94 restored San Mateo County is at 71 Sonoma County is at 60 and napa county is at 32 rest restored so we are working very hard to continue that restoration we have more than a 1000 pg e employees in the field 47 helicopters flying overhead to do these inspections make sure lines dont have any debris or damage. So that we can actually get out turn our customers back on were approximately 33,400 miles of so its a big undertaking. But we have all hands on deck working to do this just as quickly and safely as we can say. So for the counties that are not at a 100 yet san mateo napa. What is the timing of when they will be at 100 . We expect essentially all our customers to be fully restored by so this is something that were aiming for and we expect to be able to cheat so originally that was 10 00pm is that still where it stands i dont tell them this time correct correct okay. So. Have there been any reports of damage to the power lines as these inspections have already gone through. I dont have any updates on any possible damage but we will be getting that information in the coming days and will be sharing but at this time we were really focused on just going through that that 3,400 miles of line and make sure we do thorough and accurate it were we just have people on foot walking through. Patrolling the lines and then again those 47 helicopters making sure we get another perspective so were doing this in a very thorough way and its really part of our our focus to to make these psps shorter about 50 shorter than psps events that we experienced last year. So no reports as of now that by turning off the power that prevented any type of them falling down and starting a fire because there doesnt look like theres any damage to any lines yet. Well we just dont i we dont have that Information Available just but we should have some updates on moving but at this time like i said were really focused on going through not full inspection so we can get our customers turned back on and are there plans for any. Public safety power shops in the coming days or this upcoming week. Not that im aware of at this time of course we would notify media and communities. Its if there was any chance of so were always trying to keep people we have our website pge dot com slash weather where you can see our daily updates on the weather and and any potential psps conditions can you go through the county has one more time that is that are not 100 . Santa clara county is that 99 restart so theyre very close Solano County is at 94 restored sandwich in the tail county is at 71 restored Sonoma County is at 60 restored. And napa counties at 32 restored and i can explain a little bit about napa yeah its going to add about wise to yeah wine app is has the least amount of power back on right now. It really had to do with the weather so we going through and doing the weather all clears which basically means that heavy winds have since subsided and were able to go out and patrol are lies and for napa county that just last a little bit than some of the other counties that wind just held up longer so we waiting for those winds to subside to do the weather all clear now were in the process of patrolling and our goal is to have all customers essentially all customers throughout our entire service area fully by about 10 oclock tonight. I know they will appreciate that and we appreciate you joining us here on kron 4 news today is now in a row to give us an update. So we can let people know when their lights will go back on thank you so much. Thank you and thanks for the patients of our customers.
