Lunchtime. Still breezy enough as you can notice though just not as windy as this morning as and winds remaining with us enough into the early evening that yeah, fire danger is still of concern today, especially when youre talking temperatures as warm as we will have them again. 60s 70s and even some 80s to kick off this morning. Berkeley conquered Fairfield Beach at 77 degrees falling out of the 80s in berkeley just minutes ago. Alameda at 75 right now. Later todays daytime highs still in the upper 90s inland, mid 90s by the bay and some mid 80s right along the coastline. Robin. All right, thank you for the update lets update the morning commute which is off to a very quiet start to like what i see out there and checking the drive into San Francisco. So lets take a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza there it is traffic nice and smooth here at the pay gates easy going across the upper deck and no major issues there downtown San Francisco, heres 92. Its our busiest yes, we have a bit of a crowd leaving hayward but its not bad at all do expect to see some sluggish traffic west of the toll plaza. But so far that drive time is under 15 minutes from hayward to the peninsula and still wide open and hot spot free at the Richmond Sandra fell 7 minutes here 5. 80 west from the tolls off to one o one back to you thanks robin and happening now the genie has started restoring power to some bay area neighborhoods that had it knocked out, but thousands are still waking up in the dark. And the areas impacted are still the same as yesterday in fact, well zoom and a pg and es outage map and the areas here in pink and purple or those areas that they targeted with power shut offs. The peninsula hills, the Santa Cruz Mountains obviously still a high concern for them not so much in the diablo range anymore but out near the altamonte past certainly we still have some outages and the foothills along mount diablo too. The Oakland Hills in the clear now and it looks like as we head towards the north bay. Were still looking at outages for all those hilltops that flight both the napa and sonoma valleys. Speaking of napa lets go to kron fours will tran he is live in napa right now with the latest on the outages there good morning. Well. Good morning to area there are some parts in napa with power, no problems offer to 21, about 5 miles from downtown napa and only or headlights and our camera lights are lighting me up otherwise we are in the dark at this particular time pg and e they said they expected about 53,000 customers would have their power shut off but the conditions were not as bad as they thought so about 41,000 people are without power and this particular area. This is off of all of the hill lane. They are in the dark now a few miles from this location in calistoga and we have video to show you west of the napa river in calistoga they unfortunately they saw their power be wiped out by pg and e and of course this was a preemptive move just to make sure that their lines did not fall to the ground and accidentally start another wildfire, so there are thousands of people in west of the napa river in calistoga they were without power. Now if you are east of the napa river. You were without power. We have video of that in the reason why they had power. Its because a couple years ago calistoga in conjunction with pg and e they build a microgrid which is basically generators that allow certain communities to have power including hospitals and excuse me hospitals and shelters and police stations in that area to keep the power on for a Vital Services but not all of it. But some of those people east of the napa river in calistoga did they did have their power that pg and e they have their reaction they say it was. Unfortunate that they had to wipe out power to some. But necessary. When gus over 45 Miles Per Hour wind speeds over 25 Miles Per Hour in our weather stations or pg weather stations on not lena did record 65 mile per hour wind gusts really which is a big a big hassle. Now we have to go through all of this if this leads from like another like glass and suddenly better to have power for 2 days and be gone for like a week or so. Ok so heres how its going to work they have pg and e crews circling the sun this entire area looking at the line seeing whats going on you can see james darya the leaves above me theyre not swaying back and forth and that is good news because the wind that was the major concern you can see how still it is pg and e they will slowly but surely try to restore power, but its going to take some time because its not like flipping a switch instead because the power lines remember that its always the power lines they will have to look at the power lines to see if they were damaged and if not then they will turn on the power which takes a little bit of time. They are trying their very best but i kept thinking james and area they can give you an estimate, but its like the cable guy coming over. Well just try your best to make or slot or least our time slot as far turning on the lights but if youre asleep like it is now who doesnt like to sleep in the dark right. Back to you. Yeah, i just need the alarm clock to work way after all will thank you very like a fan going do. In the east bay people in Oakland Montclair village started getting their power back on last night they went though most of the day without electricity and that round of shut offs not as easy as it was for anybody remembers the last see as i was saying its hot weather combined with Distance Learning and working from home so how are the kids going to do that people were desperate to find relief they went to local malls coffee shops anywhere they could to get some power. Yeah, i can live us. You know chain to take things one day at a time the game. We didnt have internet. We had a couple of things both of us had work. Things that had to get tasks it had to get done. We drove around we came down here to start back see it can we actually ended up in emeryville a barnes and noble they had Free Internet at the book star. Could think end so she got to do pg and e was set to restore power this morning, were still checking in like will said you know just a wait and see also in the news this morning. The Trump Administration has rejected californias request for a major disaster declaration following several large wildfires. The request was issued for 6 different wildfires, including the creek fire in fresno county. The state will appeal the administrations decision this was the second of 2 disaster declarations requested by the state in about a month, the first request was approved. We are 19 days away from election kron 4 is your local election headquarters the president. And democratic challenger joe biden. Didnt debate but they had dueling town halls yes, nice. The tale of 2 town halls, the candidates, both were grilled on various issues, including the coronavirus the Supreme Court health care the economy was all covered but answered in very different ways. Dean reynolds has more. The second debate was scrubbed after the president hell miss and his refusal to participate in a virtual debate with he and mister biden in separate remote locations so he was on nbc at the same time his opponent was on abc, i just go all the time they did you take us the doctor they give you a perfect answer yes to take a test and i leave and i go about so i just did you take a test on the day the needed and i took the test day before and the day before and i was always in great shape over on abc mister biden was pressed on the issue of Court Packing it becomes president. He said it depends on how the current confirmation process of judge Amy Coney Barrett is handled. If i say thats the headline tomorrow and wont be by much going on now the improper way theyre proceeding dont voters have a right to know where they do have a right to know i stand i have a right to know where i stand before they vote the former Vice President also offered what he suggested would be a stark contrast between a trump and a Biden Justice department. But by Justice Department do is let the department of justice be the department of justice. The judgments. Who should be prosecuted they are not my lawyers. Back on nbc the president was pressed to disavow White Supremacy and then specifically those who believe the socalled queuing on conspiracy with its contention that democrats are running a pedophile ring which only he can come back i just dont know about you and you to know i dont know you i dont know i dont lets waste a whole you start off with White Supremacy i denounce as you start off with Something Else lets go keep asking me let me just to do what i do hear about it is they are very strongly against pedophilia and i agree with that and the president was asked as well about his reported outstanding loans of 400 Million Dollars. Seeming to confirm the figure. Im very 100 leverage fortunately, but im very 100 leverage. I have a very very small percentage of debt compared check some of it i did his favors to institutions wanted to loan you money 400 Million Dollars compared to the ashes that i have all of these Great Properties all over the world and frankly the bank of america building in San Francisco. I dont love whats happening just Million Dollars office confirming that yes we some 400 Million Dollars saying is that its a tiny percentage of my net worth. Yeah actually all the 400 Million Dollars up peanut. The final debate before the election between trump and biden is supposed to happen next thursday at Belmont University in nashville, tennessee. All right some good maki the lemur has been found the animal went missing from the San Francisco zoo. It was a big story for a brief moment. I was he said didnt even know him by name that mark is home now safe. So thats good the zoo and police are trying to figure out still. Who stole maki and im told that yeah how how he got out somebody reported seeing the lemur in the playground near the Hope Lutheran church in daly city hall. Sure enough there. He was yeah and officers were able to capture my keys cousin workers picked him up and took back home now maki is one of 19 lemurs out at the zoo there and at 21 years old hes actually the oldest. San Francisco Police believe the lemur was stolen because someone forced their way into the lemur enclosure its not like he just felt like he had enough and want to see world around them. Somebody broke in and took him said theyre going to fix that make sure that cant happen again very good. Still ahead here on the kron 4 Morning News Police are searching for 2 men tied to a crime. Some ice cream or something because were going to be just as hot as yesterday for much of the bay area yet again. You look outside from berkeley still very Crystal Clear weve gotten used to those nice clear skies so far this week as marine layer has been well away from the bay by consistent offshore wind your big picture set up really has not changed much over the course of the past 3 days were still in the midst of some pretty strong winds these hot dry winds continue from the northeast across the north bay, the east bay, even though that the coast some pretty consistent offshore winds right there, Half Moon Bay or windiest conditions have been in sonoma up into northern portions of napa county and portions of solano counties too. Now as we work our way into the afternoon notice, how wind speeds do calm down not enough for red flag warnings to expire just yet those of an extended till 06 00pm tonight. Despite the fact that it will be a noticeably calmer afternoon across the bay. Its still going to be hot. Its still going to be very dry and winds will be present enough that red flag warnings and fire danger still an issue through the afternoon. Tomorrow much much calmer conditions and a nice little break from the highest a fire danger were in the midst of heat advisory towards the coast and peach while red flag warnings continue for the rest of the bay area as for temperatures today, look at these 90s and mission in financial districts, 80s right along the coastline. In fact only one 70 in your forecast today and im tara. I dont think ive ever talked forecast, weve only got one 70 holding on across the bay 80s and 90s for your daytime highs for bayside areas, vast majority of these areas all in the 90s with Mountain View at 97. Los gatos and sunnyvale each at 98 lots of records going to be broken today because daytime highs for some of the inland areas are actually going to be a couple of degrees warmer than yesterdays walnut creek in conquered egypt, just one degree shy of a 100 while oakland at 94. A 100 in sonoma today and getting close and pittsburgh napa on over to santa rosa and petaluma at 9798 degrees now tomorrow is still going to be a toasty day but temperatures will work their way in the right direction which is away from the triple digits down into the mid 90s inland and 80s by the bay, even cooler yet come sunday with 80s inland and 70s by the bay and 60s returning to the coast and were going to stay that way through next week. Robin sounds good. Thank you john lets check in on the traffic now taking a peek. At one oh one across the Golden Gate Bridge looking good so far with no big problems heading into San Francisco where hot spot free crash free no issues at 18 minutes rolling south nevado to the toll plaza were checking the bay bridge toll plaza, no delays just yet its friday light so far come on in its going to be easy 8 minutes from the bottom of the maze to fremont street and the usual construction on the southbound limits leaving downtown oakland between 9, 8 again fruitvale its still wrapping up so you may want to take 5 of the east to avoid the backup on the nimitz will check more freeways coming up back to you thanks robin. 5. 19 is the time big story here this morning around the bay area Scott Peterson may soon make a new appearance in court. 17 years now after being convicted of killing his wife and son. In the north a pg and e right now working very hard to restore power for those who had their power wiped out coming up, ill tell you why it wasnt as bad. As many ive 29 right now well we got through that hot night do we have any more of those and start thinking that white one more 2 more john whats we thank yeah going to be another hot one tonight guys so maybe not the best sleeping weather, but at least most of us dont have to get up super early tomorrow morning. So to have to worry so much about going to bed early tonight, looking out there skies are beautiful unclear thats been the best part about the lack of marine layers obviously the Crystal Clear conditions that weve had some beautiful sunrises and sunsets lately not so beautiful afternoons with the heat thats been with us and thus consistently study winds enough of a win today and a hot enough of a day ahead of us that red flag warnings have been extended initially expiring at 11 00am this morning. Now in effect till 06 00pm tonight winis are still expected to come down into the afternoon but not enough that paired with the dry conditions in the heat that were out of the woods just yet for that higher fire danger Sonoma Calistoga still winds gusting as high as 30 Miles Per Hour 20 mile per hour wind gusts for areas in the east bay even into herds, Half Moon Bay at 24 Miles Per Hour. And those winds straight offshore so thats pushing in the marine cool their way away from the coast, one of the reasons are coastal spots are going to be so warm today. Vacaville Sonoma Calistoga even by the time we work into late morning still looking at some very windy conditions. Winds do come down post lunchtime but still breezy enough that there is heightened fire danger through the afternoon. Tomorrow will be an even calmer day yet and the slightly cooler one on top of that 60s and 70s for your current temperatures, its a warm start to the morning. Petaluma and santa rosa, our cooler spots along with nevado in the 50s right now berkeley at 76 conquered at 77 later today, it will be 90s for inland and bay side areas and some 80s solidly right along the coastline. All right. Thank you john we want to check in on the morning commute which continues to pick up a special 92. The trip across the 70 oh bridge will be a little crowded for you its not bad, but its busy were at 12 minutes and growing to the peninsula. Here are the bay bridge 80 west, no delays at all its been easy going throughout the morning drive you will encounter the usual roadwork on the southbound nimitz approaching fruitvale keep that in mind construction, underway lanes reduced air. So if you want to avoid take 5. 80 east instead of the southbound them to help you save some time and just getting word of a new accident on the dumbarton bridge. This is westbound near the toll plaza looks like theyre moving off to the shoulder, but you may see a minor slowdown approaching the scene back to you. Thanks a lot robin is 5. 31 and lets get back to our Team Coverage of the heat. The wildfire threats and the Power Outages pg says theyre working on it if you dont have power there trying to get it restored by the end of the day try but obviously there are still areas that dont have power because they havent flip on the switch just yet as we zoom in this is p gs on map. Indicating where theyve intentionally shut off power while were in this red flag warning in those areas in purple what youre looking for that pink purple and the santa cruz hills and. Up along the peninsula out to the east bay youve got the ultimate pass some areas around mount diablo oakland, the Oakland Hills had been a part of it yesterday but looks like theyve restored the power there so thats good news in the north bay though is still widespread in terms of the Power Outages higher up in the hills you can see that in the map lower down in the valley youre in better shape. So kind of just depends on where you are at the moment. Lets see where kron fours will tran is this morning actually i know hes in napa and power bacteria. A certain parts, yes, certain parts know in this particular area know im off of all of hill lane which is about 5 miles from downtown napa as you can clearly see right behind me it is dark. This isnt the only place in the north bay, lets get right to the video few miles from this location in calistoga if you live west of the napa river. You also did not have power probably still dont have power this morning because pg and e took away your power preemptively to try to prevent wildfires. So that particular location. In the dark know if you live east of napa of the napa river in calistoga theres a good chance you will have power today because of the microgrid system which is a series of generators that pg and he worked with calistoga to install to help hospitals and police stations. Emergency Services Keep their lights on because of all those wildfires that we have seen over the past a couple years, so it depends its strange james and area. You can drive through community, no power keep going the next community does have power but thats just the way it is altogether pg e said they were looking to take away power to about 53,000 customers, heres their reaction has to why they needed to do it. Ok so heres whats going to happen pg e crews they are working as we speak right now whats going to happen is they have a shun on when the power will be back on you talked about it hopefully by tonight. They need to its more than just flipping a switch they need to go around to see if theres any power lines that might have fallen to the ground because of all that when that they were trying to be scared about where they were scared about and preemptively trying to prevent wildfires that theyre going see if any lines are down on the ground because the last thing you need is this which the power rail of the city energize that line and start a wildfire, so its going to take some time but the goal is everybody should have power. By tonight back to you. All right, thank you very much well fingers crossed hope that happens and in the sand about their powers expected to be fully restored by about or or tonight to about 5,000 pg e customers who dont have power right now yesterday. Pg and es helicopter crews were out inspecting transmission lines in boulder creek. Getting ready to power them up. The power was shut off. Wednesday night but says the winds did not pick up as anticipated. A lot of homes had their power restored by yesterday afternoon. And the wind really never showed up so were im very thankful that they did not turn off the power one time a few years ago. They did turn off the power when the wind did not come they had warned us they turned it off and then we never had any wind and that was that was rather irritating. But this time. They they would literally they waited until whether or not the wind came and when the wind didnt come they left the power on. Does barbara seem like the nicest person ever along she said she was irritated you the county was prepared Resource Centers were set up where people can waters faxon charge up their cell phones and other devices. Well in the east bay, the power shut offs are impacting areas like walnut creek with neighborhoods their residents say. If theyre not prone to so they were a bit miffed, but homes on era scored have been without power since wednesday night now one homer owner picked up a generator to keep his food, fresh says hes frustrated by another power shut off and believes that pgd could avoid it altogether. Utilities for they painter guys that we dont have this problem or try to start putting things and around why is it that 2 blocks over there on and theyre against the hill there on our and you can hear the frustration and wondering ypg news and. In implementing better infrastructure, the power there is an expected to be restored until later tonight. Still ahead on the kron 4 morning news mayors from the states largest cities are calling on Governor Newsom to release plans about the reopening of schools safely more on that to come. Plus one homeowner is concerned about the glass fire still burning up in napa county. I she says crews are making more fuel for wildfires right near her home. And next more fallout on the unauthorized ballot drop boxes across our state as California Republican party says it will ignore a cease and desist order. And it will be another hot one today daytime highs just as hot as yesterday many of our inland areas well into the 90s now the future digits on the map. Red flag warnings extended now through 06 00pm tonight. Im tracking your friday morning commute around the bay area picking up a little bit but not bad at all which means nows your chance to get out there and beat the rush. Heres a live look at the Richmond Sandra fell bridge traffic, nice and light leading up to the toll plaza well check in on more bridges for i 40 right now and unauthorized ballot boxes scattered across the states are still up this morning, the California Republican party did not comply with the attorney generals order to remove those ballot boxes. Despite accusations of the boxes being misleading and illegal state republican officials have said that they will remove the official label from the boxes, but they wont remove the boxes. They claim their ballot boxes are no different from the ballot harvesting done by democrats. The secretary of States Office says they are exploring other options and that they reserve the right to ensure that the law is followed. Well early and mail in voting is underway right now in the bay areas we know and so far hundreds of thousands of ballots have already been counted. Heres a breakdown by county of what the results are looking like so far contra costa San Francisco, san Mateo Santa Clara counties have all reported a combined 282,000 ballots cast. Alameda county has not reported zach lee, how many mail in ballots have been received just yet. But in the meantime all 4 counties in the north bay have received a combined 110,000 ballots. So far. And for all the information on early voting and your local ballot dropoff locations you can always visit our website at kron 4 dot com weve got a bunch of information there for you. Its 5. 42 and lets take a peek outside as we head to the break on this friday morning a live look at the embarcadero and the bay bridge all lit up. Looks like we have plenty of power here, but theres still people waking up with no power around the bay thats one of i 45 right now and with a red flag warning in effect until late this morning, some Property Owners in napa are a little worried downed trees or covering up a firebreak and the state park there that was as the glass fire was raging in the area of saint the logs were just put over the last 3 days out to the property. Owners dismay because her vineyard in her home but up against it. She credits those breaks for the reason that her home and several other homes and wineries along Spring Mountain road in bern she is worried that the cup trees and the brush that are now covering the fire breaks will create a bad situation and put her community at risk honestly overwhelmed, i mean. This western most break on my property protected all of us in the community and. I didnt even know they were going to remove the breaking cover it with all the trees i thought they were just doing the one down by my van youre by my house, which. I mean i cant if something happens here. Thats fought for is right here at our pond. 5200 yards away last night. And they still completed the removal of the fire break. She says that it was marina firefighters from Camp Pendleton who were doing this work to remove the fire breaks and they told her that they were taking directions from the state parks, state parks says they didnt drag everybody to cover up the break said they are working with calfire to investigate what happened. Well lets get a check of the weather fire danger still on the high side today weve got john trouble standing by with that jack i still in the midst of an unfortunately with hot temperatures very dry conditions yet again today and still very present winds to despite the fact they will be gradually calming today. As a fellow one of our clear spots, nice clear skies above sfo once the sun comes up there will be any fog seen in the distance even at the coast as a continuation of this offshore flow hasnt changed much these past few days, keeping any marine layer cents well offshore i mean you can see happen bay winds directly from our inland areas pushing out towards the coast at 20 Miles Per Hour right now. Sonoma in calistoga 2 of your windiest spots but also quite breezy down through conquered in danville and its going to stay that way throughout the course of your morning now winds do come down into the afternoon today but not quite enough just yet for those red flag warnings to expire this is at 03 15pm still a few breezy spots to no end that paired with upper 90s to even triple digits means were still not out of the woods as far as the heightened fire danger goes. Tomorrow morning will be significantly. Calmer a noticeably calmer throughout the rest of the weekend too. So yes, red flag warnings have been extended until 06 00pm tonight for almost all the north bay inland east bay and upper elevations of the Santa Cruz Mountains and then in these peach colors at the coast and right along the bay side some heat advisories. As daytime highs likely breaking records all across the bay regardless of where youre at mean look at these coastal highs mid 80s in Golden Gate Park and sunset districts only one 70 on the peninsula and that sentiment era daly city in Half Moon Bay nearing 90 degrees right along the coast. Now for bayside areas it will be solid 90s today and in some cases right around the same if not one to 2 degrees warmer than yesterday Mountain View at 97 sunnyvale at 98 today along with los gatos also at 98 for your high 90s across the east bay with pleasanton at 98 today danville also there with you walnut creek in concord one degree shy of triple digits. Oakland richmond and berkeley today all in the 90s sonoma 100 degrees for the high today, one pittsburgh on over to petaluma each at 98 for your highs. Tomorrows temperatures wont be quite as hot as 2 days, although its still going to be a toasty saturday much calmer winds means that no threat for red flag warnings and fire danger will be diminished as for sunday a little bit cooler yet and we actually keep around those more seasonable temperatures for much of next week with 80s inland 70s by the bay and 60s returning to the coast. Robin all right. Thank you john we are checking in on the Richmond Sandra fell bridge. Lets take a live look at 5. 80 which is doing well. So far this morning, so no big problems here to stress out about into the north bay at 7 minutes off to one on one. The busiest bridges 92 as it usually is right westbound 90 to traffic a little crowded here on the flat section of san mateo bridge. So thats what going to be dealing with for that drive over to the peninsula but no big problems right now 13 minutes is a great average here at the bay bridge toll plaza, im just now starting to see some crowding at the pay gates, its often on from the ad overcrossing end up the incline but still under 15 minutes into San Francisco. If you take the nimitz heads up for construction than usual construction on 80 south approaching fruitvale so expect the lane reduction there youre backed up about a mile leading up to the scene you can definitely take 5 of the east instead of the southbound minutes but the northbound nimitz which is the commute direction looking good and wide open into downtown oakland back to you. All right, thank you very much robin. Well new this morning about 8,000 people flew to hawaii yesterday through the states new pre travel. Coronavirus Testing Program that means these travelers tested covid negative and were allowed into the state of hawaii without having to quarantine for 2 weeks for more information on how boys Testing Program works just go to our website at kron 4 dot com and search hawaii, travel and youll find a story with all the information you need.
