The bay area, richmond in downtown oakland set records while san jose it happened they match their previous high temperatures. Good evening. Im ken wayne and im pam moore, a heat advisory remains in effect until 9 oclock tomorrow night. The extreme heat along with the windy and dry conditions forcing power shut offs or thousands of people in the bay area we have Team Coverage tonight on the heat advisory Taylor Bisacky live in the east bay where people are in the dark tonight because of the power shut off but first lets head over to the Weather Center where our chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow is standing by lauras the fire danger still exists. Yeah weve seen these kind of come in waves pam, we see these impulses one came through this morning and then it picked up in the afternoon over parts of the east bay now going to watch those winds ramp up again tonight youre seen highpressure already in place now weve seen those offshore winds, it felt the heat out there and certainly some very warm temperatures continued out there tonight but were going to see those gusty winds. We had those today that some of these gusts Pretty Amazing 65 mile an hour winds reported out saying lena mount diablo 57 mile an hour winds, 53 mile hour gusts, mount a man on the Santa Cruz Mountains healdsburg 52 mile an hour gust in the Oakland Hills gusting almost 40 miles per hour. So certainly Strong Enough a major concern you get any fire started in those kind of conditions you get a firestorm. Dont want to have that so red flag warnings still remain effect in the north bay and extending into the east bay were going to see another impulse of those strong winds overnight that although it doesnt look like its going to be strong still were watching some of those winds picking up right now you can see some 22 mile an hour winds outlet speak 24 in soda springs, and 20 in spanish flat, so the winds start to ramp up again now they will likely do so until about 4 oclock in the morning. It seems spreading across the north bay again even into parts of the east bay going to be blustery at times and then were going to see the winds kind of a break up a little bit only to pick up again i think toward the middle of the day tomorrow for one last push of some gusty winds after that looks like High Pressure starts to break down. Thats going allow for that sea breeze to finally kick in by tomorrow afternoon in the west when a cool when finally moving in the San Francisco to watch with a change again for the weekend. Kron 4 is your local election headquarters and tonight, President Trump and joe biden held competing townhome the candidates were grilled on coronavirus the Supreme Court health care and the economy Dean Reynolds has the story. The second debate was scrubbed after the president hell miss and his refusal to participate in a virtual debate with he and mister biden. In separate remote locations. So tonight. He was on nbc at the same time his opponent was on abc i just go all the time they did you take us the doctor they give you a perfect answer, yeah they take a test and i leave and i go about so i just did you take a test on the day the needed and i took the test day before and the day before and i was always in great shape over on abc mister biden was pressed on the issue of Court Packing if becomes president. He said it depends on how the current confirmation process of judge Amy Coney Barrett is handled. If i say thats the headline tomorrow and wont be by much going on now the improper way theyre proceeding dont voters have a right to know where they do have a right to know i stand i have a right to know where i stand before they vote the former Vice President also offered what he suggested would be a stark contrast between a trump and a Biden Justice department. Combined Justice Department do is let the department of justice be the department of justice. The judgments. Who should be prosecuted they are not my lawyers. Back on nbc. The president was pressed to disavow White Supremacy and then specifically those who believe the socalled queuing on conspiracy with its contention that democrats are running a pedophile ring which only he can come back i use dont know about you and you to know i dont know you i dont know i dont lets waste a whole you start off with White Supremacy i denounce as you start off with Something Else lets go keep asking me let me just to do what i do hear about it is they are very strongly against pedophilia and i agree with that and the president was asked as well about his reported outstanding loans of 400 Million Dollars. Seeming to confirm the figure. Im very 100 leverage fortunately, but im very 100 leverage. I have a very very small percentage of debt compared check some of it i did his favors the institutions wanted to loan you 400 Million Dollars compared to the ashes that i have all of these Great Properties all over the world and frankly the bank of america building in San Francisco. I dont love whats happening just Million Dollars office confirming that yes we some 400 Million Dollars saying is that its a tiny percentage of my net worth. That was Dean Reynolds, reporting tonight for reaction to those competing town halls we welcome and donna crane professor of Political Science at san jose state university, thank you professor for being with us so who have the toughest job tonight did they succeed and why. Donald trump have the toughest job tonight, he goes into tonights dueling town holes with a little behind in the polls, he needs to shake up the race millions of people are already voting and hes out of time. I dont think he did that all joe biden has to do is really reassure voters to remind them that he has and touche to show sort of what a regular presidency used to look like before President Trump. I do just im did accomplish that. So professor it looks both sides are dug in at least President Trump is. Playing to his base. Joe biden has a lead in the polls. What could change the current situation, were still 3 weeks away but the snapshot hasnt changed. Biden continues to lead in the polling. Thats right i think it was a remarkable decision by President Trump not to engage in a traditional debate tonight. I personally think that was a mistake she needed that venue in order to shake things up and by walking away from it. He just he needed to take the risk and he didnt so i think it was a real missed opportunity i do think tonights dueling town holes were sort of a choose your own adventure kind of experience very stark differences on the sly. So its stark differences, yes with these are 2 men who are have been around a long time theyre very much known to the american electorate who are you surprised that theres still so many it seems to be undecideds and if so why. Oh thats interesting so when i watched site i you know i saw people identify as as independent or undecided, but the polling data actually show that there just arent that many undecideds left i think President Trump has probably we think reached the full sum this up his face i mean theyre just there are other voters that are kids that would be his supporters that are already in his in his column. So there is there just arent that many undecided voters in the middle. It seems the president kind of gave in a little bit on some of the what would some thought might be scandalous stories about him about how much money he lenders and the 400 Million Dollars. Q a he he did say that the White Supremacy it if he denounced that but i mean his supporters dont care about that stuff anymore do they so i mean theres theres it seems like biden can attack President Trump on anything because the supporters just dont care. Yeah thats right i find i find this president so interesting you know, almost every time hes able to wipe a past problem away. He create a one or 2 or 3 new ones right so hes trying to you start get rid of the tax story and a couple of other things tonight but then of course refuses to just about you and on and instead focuses on opposition to pedophilia so. Is hes got challenges in that regard. Professor down a crane. Thank you so much for your time and analysis tonight we appreciate it. And hot temperatures around the bay area it is on believe we warm right now youll 4 zone forecast as we take a live look outside at the embarcadero in the city. And how a chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow is tracking the hot weather for the days ahead, yeah, well one a day to day to pay record breaker around the bay area blazing heat out there all the way to the coastline checkout richmond that was recorded 93 oakland downtown 92 was actually 98 at the airport but the plus the record surprisingly 91 in canfield Half Moon Bay, this is one that just kind of blows me away right along the coastline, you know you get some odd temperatures we get these offshore winds and right there theyve got a Mountain Range right near Half Moon Bay and says that air flows down the mountain it continues to warm up and there you go 90 degrees right at the coast and Half Moon Bay 94 tying a record in san jose, but all around the bay area yeah it was hot 101 in napa 97 was 95 a Mountain View 90 in downtown San Francisco 97 degrees in hayward so somewhat unusual to some of these temperatures hotter in and around the bay. What you get in some of the valleys like livermore were usually see the hotter weather so, heat advisories are up in effect again through tomorrow as were going to see some of those hot temperatures soaring once again, those well into the 90s in much of the south bay tomorrow afternoon, upper 90s, the warmer spots well inland, you get the idea sizzling temperatures as you move away from the coastline again those hot numbers, but even out toward the beaches, its still remain pretty toasty out there you get those downslope winds as that air sinks it tends to warm up thats that offshore flow that weve been talking about and then we get the heat wave. Other right now weve got clear skies all the way the coastline its going to stay that way no fog to speak of, but look at these temperatures right now it is 86 degrees in redwood city 80 in fremont at this hour 83 in 80 in downtown oakland 77 degrees in San Francisco, simply amazingly warm numbers, these what you see during the middle of a heat wave in the middle of summer, but there you go it is unusually warm outside now, and it is going to be pretty hot around the bay area tomorrow, so plan a warm or hot day looks like well start to cool things down for the weekend temperatures drop off especially into sunday with that sea breeze much cooler weather expected as we head toward next week. All right lauren thank you very much about 600 of pg es customers across the Santa Cruz Mountains remain in the dark tonight. This is one of the utilities helicopter crews earlier today inspecting transmission lines in the san lorenzo valley. Last night about 5,000 customers in the area have their power shut off. That number is actually about a 1000 fewer than was anticipated. Tonight the glass fire remains had 97 containment thats according to the latest update from cal fire. More than 67,000 acres have burned in napa and sonoma counties more than 800 homes were destroyed. And with that red flag warning in effect until tomorrow. Some Property Owners in napa are feeling a little jittery downed trees are covering up a fire break in. Both a state park that was cut as the glass fire raged in that area of saint lena. The logs were just put here over the last 3 days to the Property Owners dismay since her vineyard in her home, but right right up next to it. But she says shes worried that the kind of trees and brush now covering up the fire breaks are creating a tinderbox its putting her and her entire community at risk again. Honestly overwhelmed, i mean. This western most break on my property protected all of us in the community and. I didnt even know they were going to remove the breaking cover it with all the trees i thought they were just doing the one down by then youre by my house, which. I mean i cant if something happens here. Thats fought for is right here at our pond. 5200 yards away last night. And they still completed the removal of the fire break. She says it was marine firefighters from Camp Pendleton who are doing the work to remove the fire breaks and they told her that they said they were taking direction from state parks in a statement state park says theyre not directing anyone to cover the breaks here and theyre working with calfire to investiggte these particular circumstances. In Southern California a brush fire near red lands in San Bernardino county triggered a small evacuation overnight as a grew to about 100 acres. It is about 30 contained tonight that fire comes as the hot weather continues across Southern California just as it is here in the bay area this is a strange story officials are investigating another report of a person flying a jetpack near los angeles airport today so dangerous the federal Aviation Administration said it is the second possible sighting near l a x and 6 weeks reporter wendy burch has the story. Its a bird its a plane. Its quite possibly an encore performance by the socalled jetpack guy the control tower at l a x was once again a buzz yesterday afternoon when there was yet another sighting this time a crew member aboard china air says he saw something futuristic out front of the cockpit window, heres a little more of the recording. Why not get or was it a setback. I let that pass. Now the site is a place about 7 miles northwest of the airport over century city. Its estimated that jet pack guy or gal as the case may be was as high as 6500 feet which is over a mile off the ground. The fda is investigating an apparently so is the fbi seems jet packing around is frowned upon in most circles, especially the ones over densely populated areas. Now as this mystery unfolds many are wondering if this is the same jetpack guy pilot spotted about 6 weeks ago the ceo of jetpack aviation which is actually based in l a says no one he knows was taking out one of his jet packs for a spin. Speaking of spin, heres the one hes putting on all of this. Its more much into the electric drive. This team built a local agent act with the white what a 180 pounds this lets just say up to 6,000 then for around for a while and come down land as very unlikely. That was wendy burch reporting the fbi is seeking the publics help to try to find the person who was flying the jet pack, but its unclear whether theyve been able to do that so far. And it was the final day of confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee judge Amy Coney Barrett reaction tonight from both sides of the aisle is for us we have the story of a local College Basketball player was gone from walk on to division one starter sports director because it was easy. But i cant say i expected this. To fight these fires, we need funding plain and simple. For this crisis, and for the next one. Prop 15 closes tax loopholes so rich corporations pay their fair share of taxes. So firefighters like me, have what we need to do the job, and to do it right. If you follow the saint marys mens Basketball Program you definitely have witnessed your fair share of upsets and if you follow the journey of their redshirt senior point guard tommy cousy that might surprise you to kron 4 Sports Reporter colin mill shows us how he went from walk on team leader. From a High School Junior who never played Club Basketball to starting division, one point guard you could say tommy koozies basketball rise has been fast and furious, ive always loved the game since i was a kid. Without many College Offers cousy accepted a walkon spot on the Saint Marys College mens basketball team. I just fell in love with the place i mean that the guys the way they treat each other was just you could tell there was a special culture here. And i really want to be a part of it because he says when he arrived on campus the gaels program lived up to his expectations and more the older guys in the program are great, i mean you never felt any selfishness from them they were completely invested in the team and youre like thats just how it is i mean. Everyones all in together pushing in the same direction and the only direction cousy was heading was up. After hardly seeing the court his first 2 years koozies number was called during his redshirt sophomore season. I mean coach luckily had enough faith in me to throw in the starting lineup just a just to get a change and get some new blood in there. I just started create a spark in worked out the gaels went on to upset gonzaga in the west coast conference championship before falling in the opening round of the nc double a tournament. His redshirt junior season which was cut short due the pandemic cousy played more minutes than any other d one basketball walk on in the country. Definitely something i hadnt thought about but its its pretty special honor i think to to have that title something cousy had thought about was receiving a scholarship for his athletic efforts. This summer that thought became reality. Definitely the transition when the school year ended and then all of sudden. Were talking about ok now youre on scholarship. It was surreal moment for me and just kind of special to see all the hard work that put in. Payoff but just because cousy is now full ride scholarship player doesnt mean hes taking his foot off the gas for a second. He says this season, he hopes to leave the gaels on a deep run in to the nc double a tournament but more importantly leave a legacy that can inspire other walkons something that coach be always says is.
