Oakland. Thank you for joining us everybody at 5 oclock im grant lotus and im Vicki Liviakis this is the second shooting in 24 hours in the very same area. Todays shooting happened just before 1 in the afternoon on 84th avenue near birch street officers arrived to find one person dead. Another victim later died at the hospital. The Fatal Shooting happening just blocks from where a barrage of gunfire was unleashed last night 60 shots were fired on dowling street opd says this surge of violence has residents living in fear. But this. Its connected also. To just the ongoing violence that weve seen in our Community Even last night. 3 blocks away from this location. 60 rounds fired in a residential neighborhood. Ive heard from those Community Members about how frightening work. About the traumatic experience they had last night of listening to bullets flying through their homes and into their cars. The violence in this Community Must stop. And isnt that developing story and well be bringing you more details as soon as they come into the newsroom coming up at 6 well have a live report on that deadly shooting. Our other top story tonight rising fire danger fears as weather conditions take a turn for the worst tonight that red flag warning it went into effect for much of the bay area this morning. It will remain in place until friday morning. And in response pg and e has confirmed a Public Safety power shutoff will happen tonight in 24 counties all across california. Potentially impacting about 53,000 customers, 7 of those counties are right here in the bay it heres a look at pg and es power outage forecast for tonight, the spots in yellow are expected to see. The power turned off as you can see that includes locations in the north bay, the east bay and the south base. All right want to bring you down to chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow who is here with the latest on the forecast lawrence where those fire conditions going to be the most dangerous yeah its going to start i think the worst in the north bay to begin with but then then as we head toward the middle of the day tomorrow start to see those winds moving in the east bay hills the diablo range and also as parts of San Mateo County and in the Santa Cruz County as well High Pressure now just setting itself up so those winds are going to be developing were seeing those pick up around the bay area right now fact some of those winds start to get a little gusty in spots in around what was the glass fire you can see some of those winds in the high country now 50 miles an hour glen ellen 17 atlas peak, youve got 15 in the outfield 16 in a soda springs, you see the direction. Theyre coming from out of the north as well so thats a very dry wind that is settling in now much of the rest the bay area just sunny and bright above normal temperatures you see more of a northerly wednesday but nothing to gusty down below but even some of the valleys were going to see those winds picking up. Heres live forecast as were expected to see those winds get very gusty overnight tonight. I think tomorrow morning very gusty winds in the north bay and you see the red you begin to see some of that purple those are winds gusting over 3040 miles an hour probably some 50 plus mile an hour gusts the mountain peaks there and then you start to see some winds start to pick up in parts of the east bay, too you see the colors begin to change by the middle of the day tomorrow, some gusty winds. There also toward san mateo and Santa Cruz County and well see another impulse i think as we get into early friday morning and one more round of some very gusty winds fire danger running high between now and that period through friday morning looks like after that the winds will start to go slack a little bit that means calming down and it looks fire danger coming to an end by least friday afternoon. All right lawrence and that power shut off is expected to impact more than 9,000 customers in napa county and that is where we find kron fours dan kerman who joins us live with more on. How people are preparing dan. Thats right as you know people in napa county as well as many of these other counties have been through this before and if you take a look you can see the hills behind me of the napa valley, many homes in those hills will be impacted by the shot off but not just in the hills also in some of the flatlands specifically in parts of calistoga. After the city of calistoga was evacuated for 6 days during the glass fire. Now part of the town is gearing up for yet another power shut off. I think this is since they started in 2018 about number 15 might be higher. Thanks to this generator. Most downtown businesses and homes on the east side of the napa river well continue to have their lights on still there are challenges challenges people hear that. Are powers often that we have fires in area and they stop coming and truthfully you couldnt have a more Beautiful Day powers going to be on were in business hopefully people will. So from up here on the west side of the river its a different story, their power will be shut off likely until sometime friday, not fun, but were prepared. And i think thats the key. You know for everybody when we look at climate change. Be prepared. Many residents here have their own generators ready to go. They dont have to look far to see what fire can do and thats why they get why the shut office happening and while they may not like it they realize its a bit of a nowin situation. Hes in may they had to everybody even like evade they know the power you know trying to say the things all of us complain about even they dont end of the power and something kept think all going to complain about the heat. So its a very hard thing to really make sense. That is a wise information right there we can tell you that again a little over 9200 residents in napa county customers a pg e will be impacted by this shut off. However you can scrub about 1500 off of that list because of that generating station on the west side of a valley dan kerman kron 4 news. Thank you dan out to the east bay where thousands of pg e customers could soon be in the dark there as well, the company says between 00 08pm, tonight. The power could be shut off along dab low road in danville affecting nearly 2000 customers. There is a red flag warning for that area and pg and e feels the shut offs are necessary so its equipment doesnt start a fire. Officials say anyone in that danville area who does lose power will not get it back until at least 10 oclock tomorrow night. Also in the east bay with a red flag warning in effect fire crews are on alert kron fours Maureen Kelly was in the Berkeley Hills today as firefighters work out on patrol. Firefighters from station 7 jump into a fire engine to patrol the streets around tilden park. Looking for signs of smoke and to safeguard against anything that can cause a wildfire. There are 2 engines on patrol during the day today is part of the protocol when fire danger is high theyre red fire weather flag is flying with the warning in effect until 3rd and will add a huge and to begin patrolling starting at 06 00pm the weather pattern looks like that were going to have an increase in win tonight. Through the neck through the morning and so trying to maximize our units on the ground and at night time people are sleeping may be less attentive for people to call 911 in addition to keeping an eye out in order to get ahead of any blazes that may break out. Berkeley fire is reminding residents to sign up for a c alert alameda countys Emergency Notification system. Theyre also asking people to review their household evacuation routes for getting out both by car and by foot pack or refresh a go bag for everybody in the family and because of covid19 be sure to add masks and Hand Sanitizer and park offstreet assistant fire chief keep may cause the narrow twisty roadways in the hills spaghetti streets and says they could be tough for firefighters to get where they need to when a fire starts. On both sides, the streets its hard to get apparatus through let alone operate when they if they do get a fire. So we asked people they can at all costs back in their driveway because then youre ready to go if you have evacuate and leave the roadways clear for the emergency vehicles more advice while this red flag warning is in Effect People should use extreme caution while barbecuing using powered equipment. And even idling their vehicles and of course fireworks are completely off limits. Maureen kelly kron 4 news. Heres how you can prepare if the powers going to be cut you know it make sure you have gallons of water available with nonperishable foods also flashlights extra batteries portable phone charger if you have a generator and maybe its new practice using it before the power outage to make sure you know whats going on you can use it correctly never inside. And since were talking about wildfire danger make sure you have a first aid kit and the go bag. An Emergency Preparedness kit ready to roll right turning now to the south bay where that red flag warning takes in much of the Santa Cruz Mountains that people there bracing for another preemptive power shutdown kron fours rob fladeboe has. More on that is live from. The summit above wheels some rob how are things tonight. Well la grande i havent noticed anything that can really be called a gusty here at the 1100 foot summit of highway 17 however, if you notice that the flags are the banners outside the some inhouse restaurant behind me its definitely a little on the breezy side right now winds expected to pick up little bit more later on. Residents here are getting ready nonetheless and they say its better then having another fire, heres more. Reminds motorists that fire danger is very high today here along some of road and across the Santa Cruz Mountains. People were stocking up on ice another shutdown groceries here at the summit store outside the umbrellas are tied down head of predicting high winds. Its yet another worry for fire and pandemic weary residents is owner ben a its getting a little unnerving you have so many things calm pounding on each other, but you know a red flag warning is probably the last thing. That we need right now some residents here said the power was shut down for about 10 seconds last night in what may have been a preview of a longer shutdown to guard against fire sparked by downed lines in the heavily forested region. There hasnt been a significant wildfire in this part of the Santa Cruz Mountains since 1985 lexington fire but some residents have mixed emotions about pg and es Fire Prevention strategy. I would like for them actually fix the issues that they have as opposed to just shutting things down quadrant by quadrant. Relatively small inconvenience. You know for a day or something i sure want more fires appear back at the summit store which serves as a kind of lifeline for hundreds of mountain residents who in the power goes down. Then a man showed me the brandnew 125 kilowatt generator he had installed out back of the store that was after losing 10s of thousands of dollars and spoiled inventory that resulted from previous red flag power shutdowns at this point. Im for it because its a safety issue were almost hopefully in the rainy season. And i and i understand both sides of pg knee and doing what they have to do but its been a dry long. Hot summer up here. Now across the Santa Cruz Mountains as many as 6,000 people could lose their power. The shutdown likely to begin here around 8 oclock this those affected mostly will be here in the summit area also in the Boulder Creek area in the heart of the czu lightning complex fire last month and also in the la honda area. Again this a red flag warning here expected to expire about 11 00am on friday. Live on the summit in the Santa Cruz Mountains rob fladeboe kron 4 news.
