Effect lets get straight to the maps you can get an idea of who is affected and let me tell you basically the whole bay areas under this red flag warning you can see in the map most of the barriers that pink which means the red flag warning is in effect one this afternoon for the glass fire region in the north bay as we said earlier can be very difficult for firefighters up there facing these high winds and high temps east bay hills and Santa Cruz Mountains the last time we saw a red flag warning the class fire erupted over the weekend. So now more than ever its time to take this seriously. Theyre going to be northwest winds of 10 to 20 Miles Per Hour with gusts of 20 to 30 Miles Per Hour. We also have dry conditions throughout the whole bay area with low humidity which is a recipe for a wildfire. Scary to think that another one can or ups we have to do everything we can. To help out theres a power flex alert going into effect at 3 this afternoon youre being asked to conserve electricity. Here are some tips for you would put them on your screen to make it easy turn your thermostat to 78 degrees turn off unnecessary lights close blinds and drapes to keep the home cool dont use major appliances during the flex alert trying do laundry before trying to dish washer usage before unplug any unneeded electrical devices now the flex alert will be in place until 10 again 3 oclock until 10 oclock and then that red flag warning going to going into effect as well this afternoon and that will be in effect intel tomorrow again that could be extended very well if this weather conditions continues and well have to talk to john fable about that to see if its going to continue but for now lets do everything we can to try and you know limit the power usage buckle i would say get that go bag ready because these conditions are concerning and we saw what happened last time. Reporting live in concord Sarah Stinson kron 4 news, you know i have a go bag. And i realize sarah that i had it now for at least one maybe 2 years i think you got to redo it because it was free corona and i got to put a whole bunch of all that other stuff in there. Yeah, yeah, the mass and make sure you didnt steal bandaids out of it in the last year switch up those granola bars and i could thank you very much sara were also monitoring of air quality too. Want to touch on that before we go to john in the Weather Center. Heres the latest air quality map. And as you can see the areas in orange and red will be the worst in terms of air quality today. And thats kind what were seeing sensors in the south bay also showing unhealthy air again just look at the orange and the red the yellows not great either. But at least its not as bad. But again these areas of unhealthy air are going to move around during the day as the winds move so just keep that in mind this is not how its going to stay all day long she just going to be on top of what about the winds too i feel like it never cool down last night and john. And tonights going to be even worse if that was the case for you last night daria is going to be a brutal day ahead of us with extremely warm daytime highs and then winds picking up tonight means youre not going to have a lot of relief during overnight hours tonight not the way anybody wanted to start off october feels like middle of summer yet again. We are looking out there at San Francisco. It is Crystal Clear beautiful shot, but we dont have really much of any marine layer scooting across the bay area this morning so humiditys already going to be lower today, temperatures are going to skyrocket red flag warnings in the deeper red and then in these peach orange areas. Well, those are your heat advisories with record shattering daytime highs likely to be seen into the afternoon 15 to 25 degrees above average for this time of year. Now for these red flag warning areas they will be taking effect this afternoon lasting through tomorrow afternoon because the core of these peak winds will be during the evening hours tonight thats going to keep temperatures warmed evening hours. Its going to result in heightened risk of fire spread. And its also just going to make for some very low humidity as these are not coastal winds. 60s and 70s for current temperatures, yeah were already pretty warm to start the day as daria noted berkeley and hayward each in the low 70s oakland at 63 talker to 66 and later on today daytime highs that are not the funds to talk about with highs in the triple digits all 4 across our inland areas. Bayside areas well into the 90s ive got more details in this forecast still to come robin. All right, thank you john now, lets check in on your morning commute which is very quiet for those of you heading into San Francisco right now were looking good moving well with no big problems to report so come on and no hot spots and the trip from the maze will be pretty clear all the way across upper deck in right on into downtown San Francisco. So 8 minutes. Thats a really good drive time to make it over to fremont street, heres 92 our busiest bridge busy does not mean bad. Its a little crowded on the flat section west of the toll plaza that is the norm, youre looking good into foster city or if you have to get into hayward eastbound on 92, its moving well with no big problems there toward the nimitz ill give you one more the richmond sandra fell bridge hot spot free nice and quiet into the north bay well check more bridges and freeways coming up in just a bit darya back to you thank you robin lets get back to the latest on the glass fire, the now in napa and sonoma counties strong winds we were just talking about. Could she you know be a blow these flames into newly. Evacuated areas that were waiting for the word and everybody is. In those warnings owns they know who they are the glass fire has burned more than 51,000 acres. So far same containment for the last couple of days just 2 . 288 homes and other structures have been destroyed. And more than 26,000 other buildings are in harms way that is why we are watching for any new evacuations. Well it sure more video to the set of Southern California as a matter of fact the air operations fixed wing aircraft. The air attack one 40s a call at work all day yesterday supporting ground crews in the angling and deer park communities. And this is what of video that captured firefighters are focused on protecting homes of course, one of the places of concern again angwin in napa county right above deer park and thats where kron fours Taylor Force Act he brings us that part of the story. Neighbors in angwin in napa county anxious about whats to come within the next few days the biggest concern is the fire up north northern end of it. Well wrap back around and compean hill on the on the east side of england has played the biggest concern. Earlier my concern was over on press month that it come down and come up the drought here at falls. But it seems like that may be little more contained at this point matthew lee already evacuated his angwin home. But came back on wednesday to grab some last minute things for his family posed for my family think theyd there are a few more things they wanted to have fun and thats all that really matters my family is out safe. Police says hes preparing to be away from home for at least a week in anticipation of the glass fire. Could make a quick turn towards angwin something cal fire in other fire crews are keeping an eye on the coming days is want to remind everyone we do have a wind this take place tomorrow 1 oclock. It is a red flag warning schools from thursday at one until friday. 06 00pm firefighters already made brake lines on the outer edges of angwin some behind private homes. This one near walnut lane inc hes avenue. Firefighters are also standing by in surrounding communities, ready to jump into action as the fire continues to grow doing pretty good and i know theyre working hard theyre doing their best and are so appreciative of everything theyre doing to try to say the community. While i was up there when i ran into a volunteer firefighter, he says theres a small group of them with their own equipment staying behind to protect the community in napa county taylor kron 4 news. Continuing our Team Coverage now lets turn our attention to Sonoma County thats right. Heres a map showing exactly where kron fours reyna harvey is for us this morning as she is in the rink on valley neighborhood of santa rosa on to see the boulevard right near calistoga road. Several homes we understand were damaged by the fire and thousands still remain threatened. So lets go out live to an hour and a good morning. What can you show us. All good morning. Im actually at murry at the Steel High School this is the staging area for a lot of the firefighters have been working around the clock. This is where they come in get their agenda for the day figure out what part of the fire they need to attack and theyre still spending countless hours working on the fire but were going to show you the damage yesterday were in the neighborhoods appear in santa rosa and homes are just devastated you heard from families for now being allowed back into the communities. They talked about all they have to grab what items they couldnt her you rush out, you can see some neighborhoods leveled to the ground the for the most part many of the homes or save now they have several crews that are currently in the field still working to put out the fire. Addition to that you also have some Law Enforcement groups that are out there watching the homes currently as well as neighbors in the area from any people who are trying to the break into the home, so they have crews that are doing around the clock on kind of patrolling of these neighborhoods you seen these in a lot of the fires weve covered in the past couple months so again, firefighters still working around the clock. People still waiting anxiously to get back into their homes begin will be seen or the damage as the morning goes on the finality to show you over the firefighters get their start for the day and they have number fire hose behind me water and other equipment that theyre going to be using this is where they came in and they head out. Well in a dispatch to the follow on that for now send it back to you both in the studio. All right. Thank you very much 5. 10 is the time right now and still ahead on the kron 00 04am morning news were getting another look at the devastation as we hear from a couple who say that they are not discouraged from rebuilding spite as you can see being. Shaken up by what they see is left of their home. And after the break the oakland as did it they got himself just one win away now from advancing in the playoffs is win again today, well take a look at what happened yesterday. The glass fire destroyed a santa come rosa couples home and while some families dont want to rebuild in the north bay because of the fires. This couple says they cant imagine being anywhere else kron fours Ella Sogomonian has their story. This is the first time that nick and kevin condit were able to come back to see what was left of their santa rosa home. But unfortunately there wasnt much of anything that the flames didnt touch the place they called home and Everything Else inside was leveled by the glass fire after hurried out of there in the Early Morning hours on sunday. Hes too to. If needed is is the the couple had just minutes to get out as a wall of fire descended on their santa rosa home. Kevin comforting nikki when she realized that all her chickens had perished too. It was like a part of me is gone. Going to put the fire. Everything we. You you are. Then we made here. Is go on. Kevin sifts through the rubble for any keepsakes the easing at a pile of metal rings and the remains of his wine barrel furniture business, you know where were going what were going i dont know. Theres a going to happen you have to start all over and stir over unpaid they had no insurance but they escaped with their lives and the clothes on their backs and we here with each other and that remained unaccounted minutes finding it can kill their landlord will eventually hall a trailer for them to live in on the property while a new home is rebuilt to be for kron 4 news. Im Ella Sogomonian. All right, thank you now, lets get a check of the forecast weve got john trouble in the Weather Center on this first day of october what are you looking at starting sizzling i know that a good way to start the new month guys a sizzling hot afternoon ahead of us. And that is not good news for the glass fire up in the north bay weve already seen obviously those pictures devastation and our biggest hope is that no more that happens. High fire danger does exist today though we are seeing relatively calm winds this morning in the vicinity of the fire. So thats a good way to start this morning. But into the afternoon. Temperatures will really pick up a much warmer day than yesterday so this heat advisories impeach pretty much all across the bay area and then there was red areas were all too familiar with what that means red flag warnings taking effect this afternoon lasting through tomorrow as winds really pick up in the north bay overnight tonight, upper elevations of the east bay and even the Santa Cruz Mountains also getting in the mix. So heres future cast wind gusts. We are relatively calm right now as we noted by the afternoon staying pretty calm then comes the evening tonight, you notice winds picking up in the north bay remaining very steady through the evening tonight. Winds mostly out of the northwest so not a coastal wind not pushing in fog nor higher humidity but rather some relatively dry air and of course thats where your risk of fire danger comes in as for air quality right now most of us are in the very pour conditions. Now the best day to be stepping outside doing too terribly much out there as air quality will be keeping you inside more so the knot as well those temperatures back to the low 90s for mission in financial districts today little relief at the coast but even pretty warm out that direction too well 90s for Millbrae Burlingame as well as brisbane in south San Francisco, triple digits in san mateo san carlos and woodside as well as for Cupertino Saratoga in los gatos each in the triple digits, san jose at 97 today Fremont Union city and hayward 90s for you while tri valley triple digits through walnut creek and concord 104 degrees. Oakland at 94 san leandro in Castro Valley at a 100 degrees. Dont need me to tell you were going to be shattering some records today, vacaville and fairfield that one o 3 Santa Rosa Petaluma and nevado all at one 04 today. Tomorrows temperatures will begin to cool down its still going to be a hot day. But we will see signs of relief come the start of the weekend in by the finish the weekend. Daytime highs inland will only be in the bees and some 70s and 80s closer to the bain coast. It will be feeling pretty good as well. Robin all right, thank you john were heading over to the golden gate because i just got word of a stalled truck. Thats blocking right at the toll plaza, so its causing a little bit of a backup for people heading into San Francisco once again this is southbound right at the pay gates crews are heading out its blocking the right lane. But the northbound traffic is stacking up a little bit. So wondering why the northbound side to slowing the southbound isnt that bad youre looking at 19 minutes here rolling south nevado to the toll plaza just watch out for that truck thats in the way here in the bay bridge toll plaza nothing in your way the traffic continues to pick up here coming from oakland to San Francisco. Were still moving well and easy 8 minutes off to fremont street and 92, its still our busiest bridge right now it started stacking up in the 4 oclock hour, its very quiet hot spot free no crashes no stalls but a crowd here west of the toll plaza so get on out there the backup its going to grow youre looking at 12 minutes and growing from hayward over to send the tail daria back to you thanks a lot. The as are still alive in the wildcard race as they forced a game 3 which will be today against the Chicago White sox because. They did to survive chicago yesterday offense on fire lets go to the highlights from game to second ending here. We have mark assuming at the plate hit this ball. Deepen over the center field wall that was good for a tworun home run that extended the lead for the as early on and then in the 5th year weve got chris davis, he gets a solo homer. Tacking on another run there in the nba is yes they survive beating the white sox 5 to 3. Heres manager bob melvin on the wind. We won who saw it matters wasnt wasnt comfortable. You know we did just enough offense way to win. You know bass it was terrific. Just get few runs at the end. So the series will be decided today at the coliseum first pitch is at noon. The winner will advance to the American League division series. All right now to the fortyniners weve got quarterback jimmy g still nursing his high ankle sprain on not going to play on sunday. But the niners so far are okay with their backup. Quarterback nick mullens he had a great outing this past weekend turning some heads to. And heres just one of the highlights here mullahs through for a total 343 yards and one touchdown in the win there over the new york giants. Seemed like coach Kyle Shanahan had more confidence his his throwing game then in jimmy gs but if you ask him, hell tell you know theres no quarterback controversy jimmy gs still is guy. Know that scenario doesnt exist, but i dont think thats one game either. So how free to do jimmys team hes held the job for us and when hes healthy. The planning in for us. So there you have it niners are going to hosting the Philadelphia Eagles sunday night at levi stadium. Senators sit down with judge Amy Coney Barrett and pledge their support for the Supreme Court pick. Im kelly meyer reporting from washington by some will be meeting with her as she makes around here on capitol hill. Brace yourself well be right back with a full look at forecast in just minutes. Well take a break or 5. 26 coming up on the kron 4 morning news more fire danger on the way as weve got red flag warnings taking effect this afternoon. Well have Team Coverage on everything right now, aarps work is more important than ever. We hear Older Americans loud and clear, and thats why we fight for what they and their families need. Thats what aarp fights for because thats what everyone deserves. Join us in fighting for whats right. 5. 20 right now the developing story is the fires and the red flag warning and all ball of wax youve got heat youve windy got a power alert. Its the perfect storm yeah theyre saying im afraid to say it, but i thats thats the problem, yeah, i mean im worried about the Power Outages thats going whole lot more people than. The fires to because they believe they could possibly impact businesses and and all that stuff for people even outside the and look im no defender of Power Outages because i hate that especially when its a 100 degrees but then you go ok we do we want more fires, its just you cant win now as you know what it is 2020 it is 20 am. Were still the midst of 20 where youre at can surprise us now john i am so how long is this red flag warning going to be fact yeah maybe october but still so yes, this red flag warning taking effect this afternoon and lasting through most of the day tomorrow. And really the core of the winds that made this red flag warning going to place will be during evening hours tonight. Now daytime highs today will be record shattering likely across the bay which is the next factor in this heightened fire danger and very little fog or ocean influence across the bay Crystal Clear skies means humidity is also going to be dropping some bone dry conditions, we know what that combination means for us red flag warnings taking effect this afternoon for those deeper at areas and then impeach areas those are heat advisories that are taking effect. This morning at 11 00am lasting through 08 00pm triple digit heat strong winds into the evening tonight especially for the north bay and as i mentioned some lower humidity today, 60s and 70s are your current temperatures air quality is less than ideal outside so normally be like get outside enjoy the morning. But maybe do that inside work out and get those windows open if you are closer to the coast. As thats where air quality is holding on all right most of the rest of the bay area is not so great as far conditions go even right now. Later today, triple digits return inland bayside areas in the 90s even the coast seeing a few 80s, ive got more details about that still ahead over to you rob all right. Thank you john were checking in on the traffic and we have just some minor crowding out there with nothing major no major hot spots we still have the stall box truck. At the Golden Gate Bridge southbound right at the toll plaza its having some issues and it stuck in the right lane, so bridge crews are responding to the scene expect just a minor back up leading up to the scene but its not bad at all. Youre still clocking in at 18 minutes from nevado to the toll plaza and then here at the bay bridge. Im also noticing that the traffic is picking up on 80 into San Francisco picking up its still not bad. Your average drive time under 10 minutes off to fremont street area. Thanks a lot robin is 5. 31 and the glass fire isnt just impacting residents in sonoma and napa counties. The wineries there are burning down glass fire swept through a number of wineries in calistoga saint alina and deer park look at you can see some of the bottles that survive much of the buildings did not in calistoga the famous castello di amorosa last about 10,000 cases of wine. And areas of napa and solano counties this morning also very pour around san jose a little clear towards the coastline. This morning as far as air quality goes. Now of course were still tracking the glass fire as we saw further growth of it during the past 24 hours. The concern here is with winds picking up into the evening tonight and record breaking day time highs today. We will see additional spread of this plays at least thats what the concern is and thats why red flag warnings in this deep red are going into effect this afternoon and lasting through late tomorrow for those areas up in the north bay specially upper elevations, upper elevations in the east bay and the Santa Cruz Mountains too. Those peach colors embedded in the red those are heat advisories as i mentioned were likely to be setting some records with daytime highs today well into the triple digits for most areas now winds are calm this morning and will remain calm even into the afternoon but tonight is when wind speeds are expected to pick up for the north bay under upper elevations in the east bay with such strong winds relatively low humidity and then of course the hotter temperatures. Thats where that fire danger comes into play so please use extreme caution as venture outside today, 80s and 90s for San Francisco until you head to the coast where you do have some 70s mixed in 80s in daly city as well as half moon bay. Mont aaron, i said 70 degrees. Definitely are cool spot in the bay compared to the rest of us which will really be 90s to triple digits for the vast majority of the day saying carlos at one 02 oakland san jose, i mean at 97 well saratoga and cupertino each at a 100 degrees Fremont Union city and hayward in the 90s while triple digits from the tri valley through walnut creek to concord Oakland Berkeley and richmond in the 90s while 90s to triple digits continue into the north bay, pittsburgh at one 02 napa also at one 02 today, Santa Rosa Petaluma and nevado all at 104 degrees. So a scorcher first day of the new month october not bringing relief just yet. But we will see that really if come the latter part of the weekend into next week as daytime highs inland will fall into the 80s 70s along the bay. So there is something to look forward to today get through the heat wave get to the higher fire danger and then we look like its going to be smoother sailing from this point on robin. Thank you john were checking in on 92 taking a peek at the san mateo bridge and just got word of a new accident here i can see it from my camera shot the chp says a car or driver just crashed into the the guardrail found after the toll plaza so its somewhere in the mix but for now its not blocking maybe a visual distraction it was already very sluggish west of the toll plaza leaving hayward and you see its getting heavier and heavier youre overall drive time has not changed much is still good. So were looking at under 15 minutes for the trip from hayward off to the peninsula were stacking up a little bit at the bay bridge toll plaza the trip to San Francisco getting a little crowded in some of the cash lanes in some of those carpool lanes for you, but no big problem so far still under 15 minutes to make it into San Francisco with no big problems were checking highway 4 which is at the limit 6. 80 south nice and smooth. No problems for the nimitz freeway and one oh one thats going to be a quick trip from san jose heading north to menlo park james back to you all right, thank you very much.
