Us this monday afternoon from napa and sonoma counties as a wildfire burns out of control in the north bay fastmoving flames from the growing glass fire has now forced thousands of folks to evacuate to safety. This is new video from overnight and as you can see a wall of fire surrounding buildings. This is near the sky Hawk Community on los alamos road near fawn drive in scotland drive in Sonoma County. The fire sparking early yesterday morning in napa county and quickly spreading throughout the day triggering 2 other fires. Thats the shady fire in the boys and fire all 3 merged and now make up the glass fire incident. So far the fires have burned more than 11,000 acres and is now threatening more than 2000 structures. Thanks so much for joining us here on kron 4 news at 3 oclock this monday. Im Jonathan Mccall we do want to show you a map where that fire is burning right now it is burning east of saint helena in calistoga in napa county just east of santa rosa in Sonoma County. The red dots that you see there on your screen represent exactly the locations where fires are burning. Its still unknown exactly what sparked the fire yesterday morning. It did though start in an area that was currently under a red flag warning kron 4 has Live Team Coverage for you this monday afternoon our crews spread out across the north bay covering every angle. We start with dan kerman live in santa rosa where flames have destroyed a number of homes in the sky hawk neighborhood. Dan bring us up to date on what youre seeing this afternoon. Well were seeing destruction, but its kind of like a chess board you see a house like this that is destroyed the one next door not destroyed the one on the other side. A little bit of damage in the backyard, but also not destroy this really speaks to the work that firefighters have done some of the houses they were able to protect others they were not lets move out of the way so you can get a little bit better idea of exactly what were looking at in this neighborhood specifically as you can see lots of smoke still coming up, we know that pg e is in the area they are shutting off gas. Which has to be done house to house and if you can see those flames right there, but thats gas and as a result that all of these houses that have burned down while the electrical has been cut to this area. You see right there the gas that flame just went out and thats because pg e crews are here on the scene and they are putting out gas to all of these burned out homes so as not to cause any other problems especially to the houses nearby. Now as we pan across here you can see the destruction of this house if you cant see is a tennis court Swimming Pool which stands behind this rubble. Much of the problem and we can tell you is in the neighborhoods of the rincon valley, the skyhawks neighborhood the oakmont neighborhood the neighhorhood and they have added evacuations now in the Bennett Valley neighborhood. Thats because the fire has moved into an adele state park and there are a lot of big concerns about that move into an adele state park and what thats going to mean for those who live there and elsewhere right now were looking anywhere from 15,000 people. 15,000 homes. I should say that are some 7800 commercial structures also threatened at this point no end in sight for this fire at this point weve talked to the neighbors whose houses are still standing. They are relieved at this point that theyve made it through round one. They are relieved that the winds are now home, but they are worried that those winds could pick up again and they will be in trouble once again. Thats the latest reporting live in santa rosa Dan Kerman Kron 4 news of a tough night for all of involved ahead tonight. Dan thank you. Evacuation orders and warnings changing my the men for folks in napa and sonoma counties kron fours noelle bellow continuing our Live Team Coverage this afternoon with the areas now impacted well. And jonathan since yesterday morning Evacuation Orders and warnings have continued to come down. However is since the winds are cooperating, there havent been many upgrades to the current evacuation warnings in santa rosa, but we do want to show you the latest on that now this map shows not only Evacuation Order zones, but also the most recent warnings that were issued earlier this afternoon, the orders are in red. The yellow are the warnings officials were advising folks in the oakmont neighborhood which is down here to use highway 12 earlier today, but unfortunately now a large part of highway 12 is closed to traffic all the way from down here pie the inn road going up to mission boulevard now other closures include eastbound montgomery drive just east of mission boulevard as well as all roads east of calistoga road on us you know boulevard and highway 12 now here is just a wider scope of those Evacuation Orders in Sonoma County right now all these red glowing dots that you see are indicating active flames. Everything shaded in orange, those are where youre under an Evacuation Order that reaches from valley of the moon which is down here all the way up toward crest road up here now there is a warning in place up this way for folks in the Chalk Mountain area. But there are some road closures as you can see at Petrified Forest road as well as calistoga road leading out of that area taking a look to where this all began in napa county the areas shaded in blue are the mandatory Evacuation Orders, the yellow is the warnings now all of these have been in place since earlier today theyre all still active you can see from this map. Several hot spots with this red these red glowing dots but theres also a lot of major closures here including off of silverado trail and then all up through Howell Mountain which is this area where youre still in a warning. If you are in these areas you need to have your next Alert Program to want to give yourself a lot of time to get out if you need to when there are this many road closures like you can see in this map things can get a little dicey for things to remember to pack if you are in one of those warnings owns include clothes and water for at least 3 days. Bring your portable cell phone chargers any medication you may need or pet food if you have a pet. Jonathan of course, were also dealing with the pandemic so if you have time definitely grab some Hand Sanitizer and masks those are going to be key as you stay in those Evacuation Centers jonathan back to you. Was like well that the fire so close of like this is crazy. Some have been forced to pack up and leave their homes in order to escape those fastmoving flames. Kron fours Maureen Kelly live this afternoon a Cross Walk Community church in napa this is just one of several Evacuation Centers now set up to help folks in need more on what hes saying. Well thats right jonathan behind me you can see the long line of people who are waiting for services here at the Crosswalk Community church. These are people who had to evacuate their homes because of the fires so far there are over 40. 600 homes here in napa county under either a mandatory Evacuation Order or a yearning i talked to people who woke up early this morning to flames not far from their front door. I woke up i went to the door i opened out was a. No this is so i its just too much. Its so much fire. Im scared, you know i it was just so much it was a great and i was like thats scary the 15 yearold saint helene a resident says this was the view outside her front door of her apartment complex. Her family grab their belongings and fled around 02 00am this morning. Now theyre waiting with many others here at the Crosswalk Community churches county workers coordinating with the Red Cross Work to get them a Hotel Voucher feel kind of like scared and mike. We feel emotional because you dont know whats going to happen, you know what could happen like in the next hour words you dont know whats going on many people showing up here are bringing supplies for the evacuees even those. Who were forced to leave their homes themselves. Its nice to see the Community Coming together in times like this i mean you know is pretty close just a few weeks ago and as of last week. Were kind getting blue skies again and were like you know its coming going down now and it just shows that you can never really. Planned for anything you know you have to be ready to adjust and adapt to any moment and not so we did and now were just trying to use our resources to help the Greater Community and people may not have as many resources you do. So a spokesperson for the county says so far theyve given up 400 Hotel Vouchers. Although she tells me that number is from much earlier today theyve obviously been very busy here says she expects that total to go up much further there are close well theres an estimated 12,000 people who have been forced to flee their homes or are getting ready. In case they have to. So you have that number could go up a lot higher in in the hours to come. Jonathan back to you in the studio maureen live our live this afternoon in the napa thank you so much meanwhile Evacuation Centers have also been set up in Sonoma County as well. The Sonoma Marin Fair Grounds is now at capacity. They are not accepting anyone else. The sonoma raceway is now open for folks to shelter in their cars. People can also camp out there a place to play Community Park in santa rosa is open. But only as a temporary evacuation point. Also the petaluma Veterans Building also add full capacity. Heres a closer look at the sonoma raceway Evacuation Center in the 50 acre campground is open to tent an rv campers in need of some temporary shelter. The yellow area you see on your screen is the campground which is located directly across from the raceway on highway one 21. Evacuees should enter the campground at gate 6 which is a quarter mile north of highway 37. Meanwhile smoke in elevated areas from the glass incidents expected to move north later today which is good news for fire crews on the front lines. Kron 4 meteorologist dave spahr here with the very latest conditions and what we can expect as we head into the evening hours stake, okay good afternoon jonathan good afternoon, everybody were showing you a little picture here little snapshot of whats been going on from our standpoint of visible satellite picture clearly the smoke from the fire is being shown you can see it lasting right through Sonoma County. This is the air aloft carrying it out to sea. Whats this deeper white down here to the south thats the friendly marine layer coming back and actually making its way up to the Golden Gate Bridge. So a little bit of relief is sneaking out here. A look at surface winds. Theyre actually on shore already at San Francisco east bay shoreline even little bit up here the north bay look at that napa with a west or south westerly wind so little change trying to happen here at least bit by bit live shot for you again that marine layer checking in here this is half moon bay. Temperatures kept down a little bit because of this marine layer swinging around to the Golden Gate Bridge covered up by karl, the fog was back again already the red flag warning is still in place if they were to lift this one were on the broadcast you will see it disappear east to the east bay hills also Solano County all in places you will notice sonoma napa in murray and coming up a little bit well take a look at that forecast looks like for tonight. Jonathan and thanks so much you can find more coverage of the glass fire at kron 4 dot com. Right now we have an interactive map of the burn in evacuation zones, a complete list of Evacuation Orders and a statewide map that shows all the areas impacted during this historic wildfire season here in the golden state thats available right now at your fingertips kron 4 dot com. Wild card wildfire coverage continues here at kron 4 news at 3 oclock with the very latest evacuations road closures and containment progress. After the break a look at previous bay area wildfires and how they hold similar to the one burning for some of the folks impacted by the glass fire. Its an eerie reminder of the 2017 tubbs fire. The 3 Year Anniversary of that fire next week. When did he both to blame are to blame and both of those fires but a 3rd factor, an overabundance of dry fuel is also helping to fuel those flames for us rob fladeboe live this afternoon from the Santa Cruz Mountains continuing. Our Live Team Coverage wrong. Thats right jonathan as you most of these wildfires have 3 things in heat wind and of course an abundance of fuel but in this that fuel is much drier than it normally is all of Northern California drying out far sooner than it normally here in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains above los gatos to help illustrate that point. Lets take a look at the video and what you see here is a lot of the slow growing scrub that you see in the wine seat in the sierra foothills and of course here in the Santa Cruz Mountains, its a combination of shimmies and chaparral greece would and other low growing plants, ive been talking with the folks at San Jose State University is unique Fire Weather Research lab they have a mobile unit that they send out and theyve been measuring the fuel moisture content in these what they call life ewells here in the Santa Cruz Mountains in the wine country and elsewhere and they say that it as low as its been in many many years in some cases, 50 to 60 lower than normal. They say theyre seeing levels right now that they would normally see until well into october, heres more on this now from professor Craig Clements with the fire left. The fly fuel moisture a living shrubs and trees so we sampled that says a state that has number of agencies also sample around Northern California and southern california. The fuel moisture content of these right now are our record low. And that has to do with the fact that we had this drought year. I mean we had a low rain near this past winter and so that really is problematic that so we had a lot of big fires this year because that fuel moisture content. And right now solar sites that we sample last week. There are below 60 in the high 50s thats really really critical and so we get to those low thresholds its its makes these plants just easy to ignite and burn. Fire weather lab as a mobile unit that you see it here and what they do is theyve been taking this unit is equipped to slide our radar. They took it to the tubbs fire a couple of years ago, theyre currently analyzing that data and theyre a finding that these downslope winds in the high heat there are similar this time around to what they saw during the tubbs fire now back out here live just have a couple of samples of the of the brush you see out this one over here. This is the of greece would that you see behind me incredibly dry and then here a brush that off of some greenfield the supine bow and normally you would expect this to be kind of spongy in your hand in some of some of that would be coming off in your hand it feels like sandpaper and so again fuel moisture levels down to about 50 to 60 according to the Fire Weather Lab were not anywhere near the end of fire season they say again this moisture levels are seeing right now we would normally see that until the end of october live in los gatos rob fladeboe kron 4 news jonathan. Rob thank you. Meanwhile, lets check in again with our 4 zone forecast hot weather and winds. Impacting the fires today, a live look at an alert wildfire camera at same calling the southview red flag warnings are in effect for most of the bay area until late this evening. Kron 4 meteorologist dave spahr is here with a look at Current Conditions right now a lot of folks will be paying attention to next few hours because as we enter the the maxx heating part of the day you know were now starting to exit that a little bit and this is a current snapshot of those winds interesting enough we have talked a lot about the east bay, but its enough on the east bay shoreline we have. On shore happening from the east bay shoreline in the meanwhile inland offshore wind. Basically the east bay hills were getting winds coming from both directions there up in the north bay, it looks like a little turn has happened in the winds favoring at least at the surface now on shore we like that trend thats definitely in our future snapshot of what we had all that smoke, its thrown high in the atmosphere so a lot its offshore this is actually weather factor for santa rosa keeping those temperatures very suppressed. And we like this to that marine layer sneaking up already getting up to southern marin as you can see. Right here from the snapshot. The Golden Gate Bridge covered up by now the fog at the surface. Now we still have an addition to the red flag warning the heat advisories with us until 7 as you can see the coverage is all the east bay, the south bay and everywhere in the peninsula accept along the immediate coast, thanks to that marine layer and up to the north bay as well. Now this is our current temperatures in santa rosa sticks out like a sore thumb because the smoke obscuring the sun one of the little sidebar issue with this is now you have some cooler air surrounded by hot air that continues to rise. I have some of that smoke and soot start to bleed out from some of the directly affected areas so maybe all they didnt get much smoke or any sort you might start to get some of this evening as starts to kind of quick encroach in your general area because warm air is rising up around you obviously work or up there in santa rosa today than we were this time from yesterday when a swing through this real quick, heres the humidity levels they do recover with the recovery tonight around the immediate bay spills into the Sacramento Valley thats a good trend, however we do dry out on those inland areas by tomorrow afternoon. Back to jonathan. Dave thanks so much wildfires across the golden state remain the top priority for california leaders to this today Governor Newsome address the challenges during a News Conference this afternoon. Kron 4 Capitol Bureau reporter Ashley Zavala live in sacramento this afternoon. But what he had to say ashley. You know what the glass fire incident burning up your area as well fire burning in Shasta County with those 2 new fires city leaders are now trying to bring even more resources that they have so far this record fire season, more than 18,000 firefighters are working to control 27 major fires across the state. Governor gavin newsom said the federal government approve 2 more firefighting grants for the latest round of fires that brings the total so far this year to 50 grams which Governor Newsom has noted that is a record for one single fire season. Now 117 aircraft are working to fight flames from the air. The governor says state Emergency Management leaders have also requested help from 6 other states more than 3. 7 million acres have burned in california so far this year. The governor today said his proposed budget for next year which we havent seen yet. But he says that will include a record amount of money for Fire Prevention and firefighting effort that includes new equipment and technology to analyze in control fires. Were not standing still were not just victims of fate. We want to shape this future we want to work on suppression work on prevention and then work on adaptation and strategies that are longer term as it relates to decarbonize in our economy. Now dozens of the station has pointed to Climate Change is a fundamental cause of these wildfires, especially during this record wildfire season. He says more announcements on how to tackle as she were coming soon. Reporting live sacramento, Ashley Zavala kron 4 days. Still to come here on kron 4 news at 3 oclock were staying on top of breaking news as the glass fire continues to burn in the north bay. This is video from the Sonoma County Sheriffs Office showing ash falling in the return of those orange skies, well take closer look at the latest air wildfire smoke impacting the air quality for folks here in the bay area. Kron fours has and you talked with the air Quality Management district about the safety of the air outside. The bay area air Quality Management district has extended the spare the air alert through friday due to wildfire smoke from the glass fire in napa and sonoma counties bay area air Quality Management district meteorologist eric label says on it shows a really good to you. The fires that were seeing across the reason one of those we were afraid of at least i was because im the forecaster last week. And i was the critical fire weather conditions exacerbating the other fires that have really contained. So that that was one of things that we were afraid of it actually occurred. Air Quality Management district officials advise bay area residents to protect their health staying indoors if possible even if the air outside appears not to be harmful often times. We can go outside and we cant you cant smell it and people dont realize that the body actually its used to smell can be also as well so and so people a during spare the air alerts would birdie or burning manufactured logs or other solid fuels are banned. Haaziq madyun kron 4 news. Breaking news this monday afternoon here on kron 4 the glass fire burning in parts of napa and Sonoma County. Our Live Team Coverage continues in just moments with the for staying on top of breaking news for you this monday afternoon right now the glass fire burning in parts of napa and sonoma counties and inching closer to areas near santa rosa. The fire sparking early yesterday morning triggered 2 Additional Fires together all 3 now making up the glass fire complex so far this fire has burned through more than 11,000 acres once again. The fire broke out yesterday morning and has since exploded to more than 11,000 acres its still at 0 containment and so far more than 8500 structures have been threatened. Tonight, weve learned that more than 50,000 people have also been evacuated. We do want to continue our Team Coverage this afternoon with kron fours dan kerman live in the sky hawk neighborhood in santa rosa, youre showing us some of the damage to those homes. From those fires what have you learned since the last time we saw you down. Well we moved to another location, not not drive as you can see right behind they are now. Putting water on this house behind me getting out some of the hot spots. This one street really has there a lot of brunch from this fire. As you can see the fire. Come up from the hillside behind and if you look across this hillside behind me you can actually see that one home over here was also destroyed. The firefighters were able to save the bulk of the rest of the homes. Firefighters are on scene right now putting out hot spots. Pg e crews are here also turning off gas to houses that have been destroyed and there are several homes here that have been destroyed as mention skyhawk neighborhood, one of those that is hardest hit. In addition to that evacuations. In oakmont a leader in Lincoln Valley and just recently theyve added evacuations in the Bennett Valley neighborhood and thats because of the fire. Moving into an adult state park and theyre very concerned about that right now about 15,000 homes still threatened in this area. This of course as a result of the fire which started in napa county jumping into Sonoma County there are a lot of hot spots here jonathan and as a result of these hot they were saying that some of the hot spots jumped about a mile ahead of the main fire and as a that some of the reason they were in such trouble here was because these hotspots kept moving along. As they moved along. They got to homes faster than the firefighters did. But firefighters have been providing a lot of structure protection as you see many homes on this block still because the firefighters that were here. The morning live in santa rosa Dan Kerman Kron 4 news dan thank you. Meanwhile, for the very latest Evacuation Orders and warnings in napa and sonoma counties. We do go back to the newsroom and kron fours noelle bellow with the very latest well. Jonathan ive been looking at the different emergency twitter pages and websites and all Evacuation Orders and warnings that have continued to come down over the last couple of days are Still Holding right now since the winds are cooperating, there havent been many upgrades to the current evacuation warnings in santa rosa or all swear in Sonoma County or in napa county. But i do want to show you the latest on that this yellow area that youre you are in a warning zone if youre in yellow if youre in red, however that is an evacuation now earlier officials were advising folks in this oakmont neighborhood down here to the right of your screen to use highway 12 unfortunately this large part of highway 12 between from the bottom of your screen up into where this red line mission boulevard highway 12 now closed to traffic so thats from mission boulevard to pipe the in road. Other closures include eastbound montgomery drive which is just east of mission boulevard as well as all roads east of calistoga road on a sea tow and highway 12 here we do want to show you a wider scope of the Evacuation Orders in Sonoma County right now all of these red glowing dots showing you active flames, everything shaded in orange is under an Evacuation Order you can see lots of road closures here if you are in this area. Hopefully youve already got out, however again if youre in this yellow shaded area youre in a warning area and that the other one that i didnt show you a little bit earlier up here at Chalk Mountain. There are a lot of road closures right here around Chalk Mountain though Petrified Forest in calistoga road leading out of that area, those roads are closed so make sure you have a plan to get yourself out finally back to where this all began in napa county all of the Evacuation Orders and warnings that have been in place since earlier today are still active right now you can see from this map several hot the these glowing red dots mainly these ones with the red and yellow areas around them. Those are very very active flames. What they say this isnt that deer park area which is spent evacuated since yesterday but anyone living off silverado trail and then all the way up through Howell Mountain that you are in a warning area have your nixle alerts programmed if youre in one of these yellow, aback shun warning areas you want to make sure you give yourself time to get out if you need to. There are a lot of road closures and that can get make it pretty dicey for folks of course remember do pack clothes and water for at least 3 days for every person that youre with us portable cell phone chargers if youre headed to an Evacuation Center theres going to be really handy. Of course any medication you may need or pet food. Jonathan we are dealing with the pandemic so theyre encouraging folks to bring Hand Sanitizer as well as masks with them back to you and some encouraging news. The fact that there are no more evacuation warnings are orders being issued right now. Lets switch gears the talk about the actual Current Conditions. This is a live look at one of those wildfire cameras at saint helena. Lena i should say say holiness south. Kron 4 kron fours meteorologist dave spahr here with a look at the Current Conditions noel is saying there is some good signs the winds are starting to die down just a little bit but folks still have to be a very. Cautious about whats to come. Jonathan also to add to that the direction we like this on shore look at this from San Francisco were getting some of that little bit more variable appear in the north bay but that nap is looking at a southwesterly wind east bay shoreline as well, but still lingering offshore winds remain off to the far east bay and up to places like fairfield that will swing back again on shore and joined these other locations we just talked about it just went off in the background here, this is all sort of the thing we like reporting. The approach of some fog coming in tonight covering up the towers of the golden gate. So we have some of the dampness the cooler air coming in its not a good strong for sport course we dont want a lot of winds of any direction right now. So the game plan is tonight, weve got hazy smoke in the north bay going on tonight that will linger and that will be mostly in the north bay mild temps in the 60s for most of the bay in fact then tomorrow we cool things off slightly if you will, but still warm and smoke in the north bay, but this week it looks like were going to hold on to the 90s a lot of the inland areas by this weekend though things will start to really change your breakdown for you keep the haze around about 7 oclock word 8776 by 10. Well take a look at that extended forecast for you and the lows for tonight, Jonathan Dave thanks one of the folks right in the thick of the wildfires today in napa county state senator bill dodd spent much of the day seeing the damage firsthand alongside the napa county sheriff kron fours Catherine Heenan got a chance to talk with in this afternoon about what he saw catherine yeah well senator dodd hes been a force to watch a chunk of his district go up in flames again. And yes of course hes been through this before including a 2017. But he says he found todays tour with the napa county sheriff absolutely chilling and disheartening. There was a lot of issues a lot of homes that are already been burned fires that were you know approaching different areas from Different Directions that they were just yesterday and many many areas the fire still burning alonso broader trail. You youre giving me some of the early details that i havent heard before about high end resort. What are you seeing in terms of resorts that have been damaged or lost. Well one that was particularly stark was house over she beautiful beautiful. Yeah, you know to the east of silverado trail. Was just completely devastated. Nothing standing, its really nothing left nothing of value. It was just you know really really stark we did get it saw a number of homes in the hills up around better would resort which got hit pretty badly. They were able to say you know the there a reception area clubhouse that many many other units enforced. Were gone in many many of the homes. Senator dodd says that he talk to people who were reluctant to leave their homes until they actually saw advancing flames weve been hearing about this and hes one of the people encouraging his constituents, not to take any chances and to get out when Authorities Say so jonathan good advice. Catherine. Thank you were staying on top of breaking news for you here on kron 4 news at 3 oclock this monday. Thousands of acres burned homes destroyed and thousands more evacuated. Were staying on top of the very latest on the glass fire after the break. The latest on Evacuation Orders and sometimes it can be difficult to gather up all your animals as you try to evacuate. But there is an animal evacuation shelter available for folks in napa county. Its at the Napa County Community animal response team. For assistance you can email at info at napa c a r t dot org. We also have more details on our website at kron 4 dot com. Just in case you need some help. A quick commercial break here. But when we come back a live interview with cal fire on the very latest on the plus fire incidents in the firefight that they are now dealing with all over the golden state during the peak kron forcing on top of breaking news for you this monday afternoon as we follow the very latest of the glass fire. Flames continuing to move across napa and sonoma counties, 27 major wildfires across california more than 18,000 firefighters right now are on the front lines of those blazes very latest on that fire fight across the state and for the very least on the glass fire. Were joined by cal fire Deputy Assistant director, Daniel Daniel thanks so much for joining us. Thank team do with the very latest on where that fire fight stands with the glass fire. Well if iraq continues to grow up very the winds are not as bad as what we saw and overnight however on the dry conditions. The warm temperatures are continuing to allow this fire to burn a very very quickly. So we have crews up both on the ground but also in the air we have a full on air attack right now on this fire using air tankers, everything we have really try to slow down this fastmoving fire but again its those weather conditions that continue to make it so difficult. What are some of the challenges in the biggest threats that you guys are now still facing right now. The winds are number one on the challenge gusty that lower the make fires like this burned so radically so quickly and that is the strong winds that often send embers up to a mile ahead of the not only creating spot fires with challenges are firefighters, but it send embers onto the homes and into the community so even when the fire may be on the hills in the distance is those embers that rain down igniting the home on fire. So thats why we have seen so much destruction already by these fires those driven by the wind making such a big for structure defense you guys we were hearing the thousands of people evacuated as a result of these fires do you guys have an exact number of how many people. Have been evacuated so far between both napa and sonoma counties now as of this there were over 53,000 under the Evacuation Order signed then easily 10s of thousands under warnings as well so a significant amount of evacuations right now underway in both napa and sonoma counties working closely with the Sheriffs Department in both those counties as well as the Police Departments of the cities that are impacted by this fire obviously were working hard to try to predict the path of this fire provide evacuation notice so that residents can have as much time as to get out of harms way but it is so important free resident living knight in napa or sonoma counties to be prepared if the winds shift that the fire changes directions. We need people to evacuate early if the fire does move in their direction are you finding that folks are heeding the warnings this getting out as quickly as possible to escape danger. In in communities that are being impacted by this fire. This is not the first time some of them had to evacuate this year. Many of these residents were evacuated back in august during the lnu lightning complex that burned just to the north of this many of these are the same residents there evacuated back in 2017. During that hobbs the adobe the nuns fire, some of the other north bay fires that burned this time of year in 2017 so many of these residents. Well aware of the dangers posed by wildfires and how fast moving they are and we are incurred that those residents, i know that early evacuation is for the folks in Sonoma County last night we were talking one of the 3 fires that sparked from the initial blast fire. Moving closer creeping closer to santa rosa. Is the is the focus right now still trying to keep those flames away from the city from those structures. Or is it still just getting folks out. The goal is continuing to keep the new structure defense keeping the fire out of these neighborhoods as i mentioned the challenge is really the fact that the embers are carried by the winds that. Well ahead of the fire at but working very closely the community of santa rosa who has a very strong fire they have done a lot of work since the thomas fire, especially going into this weekend that we had worked with many of our city and county Fire Departments not just the north bay, not just the bear of a really across california to preposition resources meaning adding Additional Fire engines and firefighters on the ready should a wildfire breakout they were able to respond quickly and as we saw all of the morning of saturday when this fire broke out those preposition resources critical in helping not to to assist in the evacuation of residents but also in the fire fight crews fire crews from more than 20 states have come to california to help during this very active wildfire are you guys anticipating receiving any more help to deal with the glass fire right now. That many of our Western State actually really states as far away as new jersey have been providing not for this round of fires but really for the past a month and a half since see a lightning complex fires that started back in august. Weve continue to have the National Guard activated so the city fire the county Fire Department in coordination with cal fire as well as these other states and the National Guard, this is a fullon firefight at all helping to battle these fires are really working hard to take a stand to protect these communities, but we are working in just miserable conditions hot dry very windy. Those are the type conditions that allow very the shell of a large amount of to be left in the wake of these kind of fires as we head into the evening hours are there challenges or are there any concerns you and other fire crews have as we move into the evening hours. We are anticipating that the winds will start to die down that will provide some relief however. Temperatures are going to continue to be very hot over the next several days conditions will be very dry and so even with the wind dying can easily be this fire will continue to grow in size, however were hoping that the weather conditions with the decrease in winds will be enough to allow our crews to make attack on this fire holding back the flames keeping the flames out of these neighborhoods and again structure defense all right Daniel Berlant with calfire thanks so much for the very latest on the updated with the glass fire, well be staying in touch with you throughout the evening here on kron 4. The general driver behind all of this has been the High Pressure cell most of the smoke when it goes a lot has been sent out to sea meanwhile at the surface. Weve had this marine layer coming up we like that as well and it looks like as we go forth and humidity here its going to spill into the Sacramento Valley tonight and certainly cover a good portion of in and around the perimeter of the bay maybe impact in some of the fire affected areas, not so great, but at least its going make a try we do dry out tomorrow afternoon though should make note of that that will be outside the red flag warning zone period which expires at 9 for tonight.
