Triple digit heat will be possible inland along the east bay shoreline 80s 90s with mid 70s to mid 80s right along the coast, a very little relief during our beach communities. Has it made you kron 4 news. Where police are stepping up patrols certain neighborhoods this weekend especially in downtown san jose kron fours rob joins us now from san jose hes live there to explain why the Police Department is choosing to do this right now good afternoon rob. Good afternoon justine making the rounds here in downtown san this morning and easy to see there are a lot more cops on the streets right now lets take a look. But we know that theyre going to be at least a dozen more officers on the streets this in addition to the 10 patrol units usually assigned to the downtown area during the day and swing shift so we know that overall crime including Violent Crime is down in san jose. So why is this happening were probably connected to a pair of unrelated incidents a week ago wednesday may recall we reported that 6 people were shot Near San Jose State University 2 of them fatally then on monday of this week there was a fatal stabbing near San Jose City hall. Police do not think that these 2 incidents are related, but they say they have a tendency to cause some people to be on edge here in the downtown area so they are stepping up patrols of both on foot and in the pope patrol units to try to create a sense of more visibility that there are more cops around especially when you need one heres more on this now from San Jose Police deputy chief heather randall. Unusual to have homicide like back was together although theyre not related we are investigating them and making some headway we do know that that causes concern for folks and so we want to make sure that we respond to that the officers, you know theyre going to be out visible. We are rocking beats we have our quality of life partner game cars, so yeah, theyre taking enforcement action. Theyre appropriate. I just you know really creating that im reassurance for residents. And you can see as i said there there are going to some officers actually walking beats theyll be walking foot patrols particularly up and down. Santa clara street now police insist that this is a result of these are 2 recent incidents and they say theyre not connected to any of racial and social justice protests that have that city hall in some cases resulting in vandalism but police say if Something Like that should happen tonight or this weekend. Well them theyll be that much more prepared to deal with that put more cops on the street here in san jose at least through the weekend. Live in san jose rob fladeboe kron 4 news. Well to Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg and the breaking news thats coming out on President Trumps pick in washington dc the tributes to Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg continue today, Justice Ginsburg made history once again while lying in state at the u. Our washington correspondent alexander le mon joins us live now with more on the fight to fill her Supreme Court see theres breaking news on that this afternoon good evening and today was the final day of the state tributes for Justice Ginsburg but her funeral will take place on tuesday. And then she will be laid to rest at Arlington National cemetery. Just as in life just as Ruth Bader Ginsburg made history in death as the first woman and first jewish person to lie in state at the u. S. Capitol congresswoman rosa delauro calls 50 Ruth Ginsburg changed. Our country. And she changed. The world president ial candidate joe biden running mate senator Kamala Harris and Democratic Leaders senator Chuck Schumer and Speaker Nancy Pelosi were among those in attendance, Republican Leaders senator Mitch Mcconnell and congressman Kevin Mccarthy were not in attendance. This as the battle to fill the Supreme Court seat heats President Trump says hell announce his nominee on saturday, the top contenders are judge Amy Coney Barrett favorite among conservatives who hope to overturn roe v wade and judge Barbara Lagoa a cubanamerican who could help President Trump appeal to hispanic voters republican senators will move ahead to confirm the president s choice against the wishes of democrats as the battle begins to fill Justice GinsburgSupreme Court seat. She is being remembered for her lifelong battle for gender equality. And the decisions she won, and even though she lost she said, and i quote the greatest a sense do become court opinions. And gradually over time. Their views become the dominant view at the conclusion of the ceremony, the women of Congress Paid tribute to justice ginsberg. One more time. And some news outlets are now reporting that President Trump has selected judge amy barrett as his nominee to the Supreme Court judge barrett currently sits on the 7th court of appeals in chicago and in fact just a few minutes ago reporters asked President Trump whether he had finalized his collection and he would not come from that news live in washington alexandra le hes going to keep spence until tomorrow. And for more now on who the president could pick tomorrow for his 3rd Supreme Court nominee Catherine Heenan the host of inside bay area politics talk to a political expert. To get some insight. Good afternoon. Catherine i whatever that choices it could give us some clue as to his strategy going forward. The problem for President Trump is whether to satisfy his base by naming Amy Coney Barrett unknown social conservative again. Were hearing cnn and other outlets saying yes it probably her or possibly enlarging his base by naming somebody like Barbara Lagoa that cubanamerican judge from the key state of florida. I asked professor David Mckeown of sonoma State University for his thoughts on what will be a huge decision. President trump is running from behind if you think more globally about what has happened in terms of recession, protest politics the pandemic setting up of the most consequential election in a generation, its not our lifetime. The president has to expand his base if you look at president ial approval. If you look at where he was elected how he was elected. The margins were razor thin and so any appointment thats going to move the court obviously farther to the right or to the conservative side also has an electoral consequences not only the for conservatives but also reaching out and looking at different demographics, so wed be particularly interested if this is a person from florida from a battleground state or has certain appeal or demographics because the president and his team running from behind need some expansion and no use every opportunity to do that between now and election day so theres a lot at stake here in this appointment and it also spills over to broader reelection strategy, its not going to be enough to just to deliver the white house for reelection by relying on noncollege educated white voters youre going to have to go into other areas and grab other boater subsets we get a clue about that and how the president is feel about that with their appointment do they please conservatives and do electoral backdrop or pe of electoral understanding behind that appointment. So if the pond and serve right tonight, the president is sticking with social conservative Amy Coney Barrett. There is a Campaign Team might be ignoring what mcewen is saying about going beyond his base at least on this decision again we will apparently know for sure tomorrow just in the path and we will be watching that for you right here on kron 4 well talk now about our 4 zone forecast as we take a live look outside at the richmond sandra fell bridge. The north and east bays are going to be hot and dry this weekend and our meteorologist Mabrisa Rodriguez is here now with details on the fire danger thats ahead. Yeah thats right justine so tomorrow is going to be a sneak peek of whats to come were going to start to begin a warming trend tomorrow. About 5 degrees above average and were noticing the changes out there already lack of marine layer, so we are noticing, Crystal Clear skies and also we will warm up about 74 degrees for those of you in downtown San Francisco for your saturday afternoon 69 degrees for half moon base about 5 degrees above average there millbrae and burlingame in the low 70s winds out of the north as west still going to get that northerly flow warming up temperatures into the 70s from san mateo to mountain view, mateo 73 degrees low 70s for foster city with widespread low to mid 80s for the south bay, san jose 81 degrees cupertino in the mid 80s and already going to see that warm up for those of you in the inland valleys of the east bay flirting with 90s for livermore 89 degrees about 10 degrees warmer than today and low 90s for conquered with widespread 80s throughout the east bay shoreline richmond and oakland warming up into the low 80s, there mid 80s for napa and sonoma and upper 80s for santa rosa with novato hitting 90 degrees for your saturday afternoon highs and that warming trend is only going to get hotter on sunday expect an additional 10 degrees of warming with triple digit heat monday through tuesday of this upcoming week could see possible record breaking or near record breaking heat in the days ahead, so some are not done with the bay area just yet to back to you not at all thanks so much that. Thats a 9. 1 drop from last year. Its going to be hot this weekend in the space will have a live interview with Contra Costa CountyFire Protection. Our top story, this afternoon has been the high fire danger for this weekend as an offshore wind event and scorching triple digit temperatures now has fire officials on high alert this weekend and were just getting into the peak of fire season across the bay area. Joining us live now is steve hill, the Public Information officer for the Contra Costa CountyFire Protection district. Thank you so much for joining us here on kron 4 news at 3. I just think so what are you most worried about for this weekend with the high winds and the hot weather and just how dry it is. Theres no surprise to your viewers that this has been a challenging fire season some calling it historic already and were really not just now getting the height. Whats typically the worst part of the fire season. Looks like Mother Nature is coming in right on schedule of this weekend starting tomorrow evening. Were unseasonably hot weather 107 degrees. Its forecast in some parts of thunder across the county central park. Who are very very low humidity level so to be very dry singledigit humidity. The big problem that guys got to push the ball around the this weekend will be the forecast to be up to 50 Miles Per Hour on ridge lines. And that all adds up in a situation where weve got an awful lot of unburned dry when help arrived fuel up there on the to a situation where fire dangers to be very hot. So weve been through fire seasons that have been his bad in the past few years what are some lessons that youve learned those past few years that youre going to use to help you this weekend. Well we made a lot of improvements. First of all whats happened. I would say is that the forecasting for fire weather has gotten much better in recent years. And thats a lot of us to do something that we didnt used to be able to do even a couple of years ago. Not what is to resources and beyond what we have normally on given day for each red whether fire weather conditions. And so this weekend and we will have been getting actually being tomorrow morning. Through monday morning at least have quite a few additional up in available to dispatch immediately kenny wildfires and they started cross the county and many of them will be available across the region will have additional 5 wildland firefighting engines cruz have both of our firefighting bulldozers available our 3rd powerful firefighting tools. For the first time really red flag weather will have come here one that somehow or aerial capable helicopter available for the county and the larger region. So this is a made available a state program cull repositioning which helps local jurisdictions to fund the availability of these Additional Resources about young what we might normally have available. Thing well this is new this year as well well have what we go through 12. Thats and crew are for control workers is of our control workers were annabelle showing the months during their long ago, were available to go out and the sister firefighters in meanwhile, first do you so its great have firefighter sort of positioned in those hot spots. Can you tell me 3 things you want our viewers to do in order to try to not spark it a while for this weekend unintentionally. We virtually every one of wildfires here in Contra Costa County and this one is no doubt across the river in his met many by some sort of human activity. We did have the middle of some like dry lightning strikes that cost him fired. Thats pretty unusual theyre based created by human activities of their people. One of the biggest sources fires is a coastal start smoking products along our streets and highways clearly a bad idea over this weekend and any time the rest of this fire season. Malfunctioning vehicles are often a problem when it comes to creating these fires dragging chains malfunctioning exhaust system. Speaker vehicles in good working order. I dont park on there may be some homeowners out there that are looking to do that last minute we debate pencils face creation you want that. But though do it during height of this red flag weather because or some other things that used to that kind of work. It often spark theres a great Source Information on how to prepare for wildfires ahead of time and then what to do in the back it done. Its all residents guide to why our preparation and evacuation. Its available on our web site at www dot c c s p d gotten also in the county sheriff. So website as well as the county address countys website has a lot of great information there and its written forgot about the county of course but it certainly probably just about anyone across the region last thing that we would like people to do is we would like to have them report any fires immediately our goal this time of year and really is key small fire small and keep them from growing into dangerous and perhaps deadly fires, pretty good track record. You cant do it alone. We need the publics and recording those fires see and hear that. Thank you so much steve help from Contra Costa County fire joining us here on kron 4 news at 3 cup that this weekend. All right, lets talk now about our 4 zone forecast in just see exactly how hot its going to be a quick live look here at walnut creek. At highway 24 in the east bay is going to be scorching this weekend. Good afternoon. I just seen yet and were going to notice this red flag warning going into effect for the east bay valleys and east bay hills. Saturday night through monday morning and we are going to see winds out of the north sustained at one 20 to 30 Miles Per Hour peaking saturday night through sunday morning where we could see gusts upwards of 50 Miles Per Hour or less so we will notice also rising temperatures peaking on monday even continuing through tuesday of this upcoming week. 90s in triple digit heat inland and along the east bay shoreline 80s and 90s and throughout the coast little relief there mid 70s to mid 80s from now until then though we are noticing very dry seasonable weather and temperatures out there right now in the bay area in the 60s along the San Francisco peninsula coastline, mid 70s throughout the east bay shoreline with the widespread low to mid 80s as you make your way inland. But temperatures already going to start to climb tomorrow 5 to 10 degrees from today, mid 70s for downtown San Francisco low 80s for oakland and hayward even san jose as well warming up into the low 80s today with low 90s for parts of the tri valley is like concord in antioch and avato 90 degrees for your saturday afternoon and we are going to notice triple digit heat with a record breaking or near record breaking heat could see a little moisture if any well into the Single Digits monday through tuesday because of the very warm hot and dry air mass and little relief 7 days from now only cooling down into the 90s just seen far valleys 80s along the east bay shoreline and 70s throughout the coast back to you. Thank you so much and coming up next a romantic proposal goes t well happening right now in the east bay, we have a live look now at a march thats happening in lafayette going right down mount diablo boulevard.
