The 26 yearold emt who was shot and killed by Louisville Police back in march. She was sleeping at her home when 3 officers conducting a drug investigation entered on a no knock warrant and fired multiple shots of the 3 officers involved just one was indicted. But the indictment was not related to taylors death. Former officer he was fired Brett Hankinson is charged with 3 counts of wanton endangerment. 4 shots of his that went into a neighboring apartment. Kentuckys attorney general says it is unlikely there will be any additional charges related to the shooting. The criminal law is not meant. To respond to every sorrow and grief. And that is that is true here. My heart breaks. For the loss of miss taylor. His announced that he is creating a task force to review the process for securing reviewing and executing search warrants in kentucky. Despite the outrage President Trump is praising kentuckys Republican Attorney general for his handling of the investigation when asked about the case and its result this afternoon, the president said attorney general Daniel Cameron is quote really brilliant and a star. And he made a statement that ill just it just is just this is not often easy. It does not fit the mold of Public Opinion and it does not conform. To shifting standards it. It says only to the facts into the law. If we simply actor in a motion are outraged is no justice mob justice is a chess is just a side by violence is not just as. It just becomes that they heard that i said write that down from a place because i think its it was a terrific statement. Hes handling it very well. You know who he is and you you i think you know i think everyone now knows who he is. The president says that he will soon be speaking to kentuckys governor and it was sheer. Democratic president ial nominee joe biden is also reacting to the grand jurys ruling in a statement, he said we need to start addressing the use of Excessive Force banning choke holds and overhauling no knock warrants biden added that he knows people are frustrated and they have the right to peacefully protest. But he says violence is not acceptable. And this is a tweet from his running mate senator kamala harris. She wrote tonight, im briana taylors family, it was still grieving the loss of a daughter and sister. We must never stop speaking briannas name as we work to reform our Justice System including overhauling no knock warrants. Attorneys are also reacting to the charges announced today in louisville kron fours dan kerman spoke to 2 lawyers with opposing opinions. We all could have been easily prosecuted for manslaughter very a criminal defense Attorney John Burris says despite being fired on first by briana taylors boyfriend, the officers who fired back killing taylor were not justified and should have been charged with manslaughter. But it only one shot and thats 20 other shot the question is was that over and over and kill and whether or not there was any effort made to de escalate this situation when there was only one shot. You have 20 shots from 3 different officers, appear that this was a manslaughter type case not easily could have been first believes prosecutors took a very conservative stance by not filing charges. But bay area attorney Michael Rains who defends Police Officers believes they were simply following the evidence which suggests selfdefense. The prosecuting authorities have to say we understand the tragic proportions of this event. But we also know that the facts dont support. The filing of these criminal charge rains believes prosecutors were correct to file wanton endangerment charges against one of the officers. Who shot into the home of taylors neighbors, i think that a message that Police Officers just can randomly pull their guns and started shooting without having consequences but burris believes that clearly is not the message. The prosecutors have sent by bringing no charges for the killing of taylor. Africanamerican community and other communities of goodwill questions raised about whether or not you can hold the Police Accountable or whether or not they can in fact outrageous conduct and not be held accountable which this case suggest 2 attorneys 2 very different positions likely much more discussion to come. In San Francisco. Dan kerman kron 4 news. Bay area families who have had their own loved ones killed at the hands of Law Enforcement called todays announcement frustrating but. Not shocking crime for us Jonathan Mccall is live for us tonight in the newsroom with the pain theyre dealing with jonathan yeah, vicki grand you know these families firsthand know too well all the pain that briana taylors family is dealing with tonight. They say todays decision is not justice for taylor and just part of a system that continues to target in rob African Americans of their rights. Its a tight knit family where the members have been forced together through tragedy. Each of them losing a loved one at the hands of Law Enforcement and now that the news that the officers who killed Breonna Taylor wont be directly charged with her death. Dont causing them to reopen and relive their own pain for its people are. Has been brought to her account and very much as 13 and i hope more people open their eyes and a house. I read this problem and through virtual call wednesday evening, they tried to console him heal one another from the news that they say is disappointing but not shocking kat brooks has as taylors death is a clear cut sign that more needs to be done to protect black women who are also killed by police in staggering since the year 2015 a black women who we just make up 13 of the female population weve accounted for 20 of the women shot and killed by police and 28 of the unarmed deaths across the country, the uncle of oscar grant was among those also taking part in this call. The officer who killed grant you on this measure. Lee was the last officer convicted of a deadly shooting here in the bay area. He says thats a problem we dont look at amas. Yesterday as an isolated. The most of us here in oakland. Sadly, pretty much knew what the outcome was going to be. The officers werent going to charge. The numbers tell us the truth. As an example since officers murdered. Over 1300 bodies here in the state of california has been killed by the police not a single officer actually has been convicted except the joins others say that protest alone may not be enough to effect the change they want to see they may have to pack the polls in order to get their message across. Whats going to need to happen is were going to have to actually push out some of these fools who are it because we have political cowards at the state capitol. They did just you know they they just havent they just havent done their job. This is scary we i cannot sleep at night anymore. Alex miller and even a gore but live in separate San Francisco neighborhoods that have similar experiences after posting her next door app and gore but quickly realized it was more than just a burglary incident here and there over the past 2 months. This is what she put together i just started putting together all the incident has said right down into a app that eventually i join in too big a map. So to get in one more feedback similar stories across neighborhoods like north beach telegraph hill, russian hill and more hes breaking into their garages or homes stealing expensive bicycles scooters in whatever they can get their hands on your says the american april its postponed. The next year and we had a lot of wedding gifts that were in there and they got stolen so there was a lot of miscellaneous things and a lot of sporting equipment as well now according to San Francisco police. There have been 1079 burglaries in its Northern District so far this year. A 58 increase from the 683 burglaries over the same time period last year as for citywide burglaries theres been 5,118 so far a 42 increase from this time period last year i dont think jail is much of a solution. But Something Like a restitution system to be a bad to people you stole from community saw both of them. It could be somewhat of a. Now time for 4 zone forecast were taking a live look outside at San Franciscos embarcadero. Chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow is a gambling man tonight hes telling me he thinks this will be the last heat wave of 2020. Yeah, i think so i think we may not see anything like this until at least next spring. Lets keep your fingers crossed as were seeing looks like significant heat wave rolling into the bay area this weekend in fact these temperatures again were talking 97 some triple digits in some of the valleys not as hot as the last one, but certainly hot enough and of course that means an increased risk with the fire danger into early next week as well. Gusty winds, those north northeast winds are going to be developing over the weekend. The mountaintops look in 30 to 50 mile an hour certainly thats going to keep our eyes on right now were not seeing that at all were seeing it on shore breeze and look at the fog rolling in across the Golden Gate Bridge right now so i think fog settling in tonight. I think even some drizzle along the coastline got a cold front thats actually headed up in the Pacific Northwest that is some good news they have had the fires of course burning all along the west coast. Fire season that will help put out some of the fires there for them and were seeing that track a little bit closer in the far Northern California going to catch the trailing edge of this cold front fall apart before it gets here but leaving some showers behind their least along the north coast, but by the time it gets the bay area and not much left over. Were talking about some nice weather though around the bay area today 60s in the San Francisco, 78 in oakland today, 82 in san jose 88 to both livermore in concord in 85 degrees in santa rosa. These numbers going to be much warmer though as we get the weekend temperatures though outside now. The fog already beginning to fill inside the baby got numbers of 50s along the coastline, 60s, partly cloudy skies in the san jose right now 65 degrees and live more 64 in dublin really a strong onshore push is that system approaches the coastline thats going bring a lot of cloud cover overnight tonight and tomorrow morning so you see it out there right now the clouds getting pretty thick some drizzle along the coastline. A likelihood tomorrow ipsen a mix of clouds as we head throughout the day warm afternoon, especially in some of the valleys but hot temperatures over the weekend. So as we head into the weekend finally this cold front is going to have made its way on through. But tonight slowly approaching iran as it does go to kind of flatten out the ridge at least for a day that will keep our temperatures down just a little bit once it moves to High Pressure builds on the backside of it all of a sudden you talk about those hot temperatures and those offshore winds. Low clouds and fog surging on shore now its going to make its way well on shore in the interior valleys, the tri valley, maybe even all the way in the Central Valley overnight tonight early tomorrow morning then slowly peeling back throughout the day but kind of hugging the coast not much clearing up toward the beaches. I think more so as we get in friday and of course the weekend temperatures tomorrow, high clouds and mister sunshine and temperatures in the 70s in the san jose for tomorrow in the San Francisco youve got some low clouds and fog giving way to some sunshine and a few of those high clouds in the afternoon temperatures in the 60s. Oakland looking nice though sunny and some clouds temperatures up in the mid 70s, well have a full look at forecast given 10 is coming up. Theyve posted some fire weather watches that will become warnings as we get a little bit closer to the east bay hills above a 1000 feet were talking 30 to 40 mile an hour gusts over the weekend starting saturday morning continuing through monday morning. So thats quite a stretch maybe pushed out a little bit further than that maybe into tuesday as i see right now slow county looking at 25 to 40 mile an hour very dry north northeasterly winds expected there and then as you get into the north bay. I think that may be the strongest gusty winds over the mountain tops maybe upwards of 35, maybe 50 Miles Per Hour or so certainly watching out for those conditions over the weekend.
