Now at 9 a steady drop in coronavirus cases across the state has cleared the way in 9 counties for the wider reopening of businesses and that includes most of the bay area good evening, everybody thanks for being here at 9 oclock, im grant lotus and im Vicki Liviakis alameda. San mateo and solano counties received the green light to move forward with reopening. Those counties were added to the red or second tier of the states colorcoded for tier ranking system. This category means that there were 4 to 7 daily new cases per 100,000 residents or a 5 to 8 Positivity Rate with the addition of these counties every bay area county is now in the red tier except for contra costa and sonoma counties but contra costas Health Director says they are on track to enter the red tier next week. And as more businesses reopen a Northern California private School System run by the diocese of sacramento has applied for a waiver to allow in Person Instruction in Solano County as soon as possible while parents have the choice to keep their kids at home, teachers would have to return to the classroom. Harpers alice of ammonium live in the newsroom with a petition that theyve Just Launched l a. The diocese of sacramento superintendent is eager to get students and teachers back into the classroom as soon as possible so hes been working with Solano CountyHealth Department to make that happened before they are moved up the states covid19 tier and take a look at this psa provided by the diocese of what the new setting will be like theyve already implemented in Person Learning in Eldorado Hills and they want to set that same system up over and Solano County again its not mandatory families have been offered to keep their kids at home if they are uncomfortable with coming back the superintendent saying about half the parents surveyed are eager to do so well parents i spoke with from those whose kids attend Saint Catherine and saint basil are worried that the children who do choose to stay at home may not get the best education. Well, teachers that are forced to be back in the classroom tried to divide their time between the physical and virtual obligations. Theyre also sharing that theyre worried about the job security for these teachers like what will happen to those with Underlying Health conditions who may not be able to return. They spent a lot of time reviewing our campuses at classroom by classroom and facility by facility making sure that we could. Keep kids that distance as much as possible so we rearranged her classroom with classrooms weve taken out a lot of things that perhaps you didnt need we make sure desks our space as much as possible. A lot of new technology in place and on top of that weve really had to look at our own. How people move about our campuses and come up with new flow or a new app as the travels of people are opting into each other reviewer bathrooms and pick up and drop off and all those things its problematic for 2 reasons number we were initially told that if are. If we decide to keep our students home. While other students went back into in Person Instruction. They would be treated as if they were sick students so they would only be given it. To do. Well were still paying full tuition. The other problem with that is that we have teachers and faculty who fall into highrisk categories and they live with other persons who theyre not able to socially distance from if they do go back to in Person Instruction. There are california guidelines about returning to schools and part of that is that accommodation is will be for teachers who are unable to return due being at higher risk Health Groups or living in households with not able to socially distance when they got a return to inPerson Instruction so thats very problematic that our teachers could be pushed out and theyre feeling in fear for their jobs and their health care ultimately their livelihood. So both sides conducted surveys the superintendent says that their latest one reflected the more than half of the parents prefer in Person Instruction. Well the parents i spoke with that Saint Catherine and saint basil pointed to their own Online Survey that included not just parents but the surrounding community which they say shows otherwise but the School System is continuing to make changes across 6 campuses in Solano County. In case. Theyre waiver is approved and if that happens their goal is to reopen sometime in october live in the newsroom. Ella sogomonian kron 4 news.
