Hills, my side to start a sunday morning temps on the board lower 60s lining up a good chunk of the east bay shoreline 59 conquered 62 for antioch 50s up to the north bay, 59 meanwhile for san jose most the readings a touch cooler than yesterday but were going to catch up on this board within a couple of hours after sunrise what fog going on this morning basically pretty clear going on and then as we head on until late tonight and tomorrow morning, not much fog to replace that by tomorrow morning either lets see what your breakdown as for today sfo in the background 77 by 11 by 2 were talking 88 some inland areas will briefly touch into the 90s this afternoon. But a minor little cool down looks like by the time we get to early part of fall the well talk about that coming up in a bit marty sounds great davis continues this morning tomorrow was supposed to be the reopening of some San FranciscoUnified School District classrooms for in Person Learning. The district has been making some progress in trying to reach that goal. But it appears are going to miss that deadline kron fours reyna harvey live at the District Office in San Francisco. She has the latest for us marty good morning look at we were looking at the city and countys timelines are candles will be back in School Starting tomorrow, we are in the red tier here in San Francisco, which means that schools would be able to open back up but like you mentioned it doesnt look like were going to see any kids going back to school. Now again schools are supposed to submit guidelines for reopening Different Things that theyve put in place to be successful if they start back school. A couple of those things would be accommodating face coverings at all times the ability to physically distance. How they are able to limit the number of people per square foot in the classrooms. How we can limit the duration of exposure and also how the a plan to limit the amount of physical interactions a visitor, so the schools are supposed to submit safety plans, including all these Different Things you see on your screen to be able to re open now on september first the local se safer at home order was revised. Now thats a San Francisco has been in the red tier for 14 consecutive days t k through 12 schools and School Districts may open for in Person Instruction but only upon advance written approval of the Health Officer or the Health Officers designee of a plan for opening such purposes so now basically this means that in San Francisco isnt that rent here for 14 more days, the schools can open we know that were in the red tier right now and then according to those guidelines this would have been the week that kids would be back in school. But were not seen anything to indicate that any of the schools are going back in session even hearing reports that some private schools and charter may have submitted that the steel we havent seen any approval from the county so the next question were asking mardy because we know parents want to know is when it is kids can go back to school is going to be any time in the coming months since weve got to miss that initial deadline or is it going to be at the beginning of next year, no parents are probably anxiously waiting for an answer. We are too so soon as we get that information will be dividing that tea for now reporting here in San FranciscoReyna Harvey Kron 4 news, youre right rain and that has to be such a blow for parents as students also teachers who all want to get face to face with their students but do it safely. And theyre also big crowds over Lafayette Park as well we did sfpd volunteers handing out masks those people who needed them but all in all just a Beautiful Day around the bay area and as far as they tell us about today are expecting more of the same day we are short sleeve shirt weather is back again, you know its hard to believe falls coming around the corner and the weather is following suit with that so its a quick little brief warmup and then boom or called off early into the week well get to that just a bit heres the haze that screening us this morning, the live shot from timber on there we have at the Golden Gate Bridge right off their the distance sfo up close and personal. No delays happening there but my orange hue coming in here from the color shun as the sun joins us this morning temperatures 50s and 60s a little in the way that way 61 hayward 64 going on for any off 59 meanwhile to san jose and San Francisco uh 50s up to the north bay too. So to show you these waves it really doesnt do much for us here in terms of bringing much the way of cloud cover or even really rain but what it does knowing today is the warmest day is conditions will start to cool as we get some of these waves coming down theres rain out to sea and will be rain up in the northwest a little better some shower activity with all of that getting into tuesday which will be the coolest day it looks like probably of the week that will be the first day of fall and then we warm up a little bit as we start to finish off the week. There we have the live shot from the bay bridge toll plaza here. Brief Early Morning fog that weve experienced in just about its all gone here and mostly sunny warm with 80s and a few 90s happening inland but early in the week with those ways i talk about temperatures cooling quickly back to the 70s for the bay will have some 80s going on in london so forth and later the week little brief warmup and so forth but by the end of the week we cool off. And its a cooler friday, were looking at the private the cool day. But also by thursday and friday morning looking for maybe some showers extending beyond just the coast, maybe in the north bay or whatever. Theres a little window of opportunity that that name that air allies look out for 78, San Francisco, the high today 80 coming in for oakland, 86 san jose across the wider bay, we are grabbing a couple token 90s this again the were seeing 92 concord livermore east bay shoreline into the 80s there 86 for hayward and 80s pretty much litter. The north bay as well with 86 for san jose coming up in a bit well have that extended forecast for you to take a look at the longerrange models and he was going on that debate a thing in the gulf of mexico and mardy okay, thanks and a minutes. Neighbors were startled out of sleep by a barrage of bullets hitting their apartments. Kron fours gayle ong has more. No one was hurt in the shooting i spoke to the woman who lived through that scary moment when gunshots hit her apartment that moment caught on video. Its several shots her just after 12 30am saturday. There are about. 1310 13 gunshots. I was startled my boyfriend told me get down get down and then once the gun charge definitely it stopped there was like a screech you can see bullet holes inside the apartments where this all took place on monterey boulevard in San Francisco. 3 top floor apartments were hit. No one was hurt and the heineken was getting ready to go to sleep when she heard the shots it was only credit moments later that i realized there isnt a bullet hole through our wall. It was right i had laying. The rate at head height. Enright in an area i had basically just walked by that like 10 minutes prior San Francisco police have not commented on the incident but shot could be seen on the ground across the street marking the shell casings the police when they showed up they showed up pretty quickly. Like 10 minutes later. Found sure enough about. 13 or 14 shells right here on the sidewalk in front of our house were told investigators stopped by saturday afternoon to take measurements to determine the trajectory of the bullets crews spent the afternoon cleaning up the broken glass and boarding up windows. People who live in the area say this type of violence is rare that its kind of they are not something that happens very often i think their worst crime ive ever experienced hopping in this area is just like a broken window in a car here and there. But lived here for 14 years and ive never never seen anything like this residents say has said pd is collecting Surveillance Video from Home Security cameras in the neighborhood in San Francisco gayle ong kron 4 news. Federal investigators trying to find the source of the letter that was laced with the poison rice and it was addressed to President Donald Trump. The letter was intercepted at a federal Mail Processing center on saturday. Investigators are looking into the possibility that the letter may have come from canada. 24 back in 2014 a federal judge sentenced a mississippi man to 25 years in prison after sending letters dusted with that same poison to president barack obama and other government officials. Well coming up this morning a Natural Disaster of course can strike at a moments notice and coming up after the break it was just a get together with friends. No big deal. Everybody felt fine. But now im super sick. Everyone is sick. I just wish we had been more careful. It would have been easier than this. So wear a mask. Do what you can outside. Stay six feet apart. Because some things you just cant take back. Do your part to lower the risk. When the clock was ticking on tick tock but a u. S. Ban on the app that was set to go into effect at midnight has been averted. President trump a pro approved a proposed deal for the app i to partner with oracle and walmart and form a new company that would be based in the u. S. The president says it would hire 25,000 people in contribute 5 billion dollars to an education fund. The white house had flagged tick tock is a threat to National Security because the Chinese Company that owns it collected data on users here in the u. S. In the meantime the judges also put a judge is also put on hold the Trump Administration embargo on we chat in the u. S. It would have required apple and google to remove we chat for downloads by late tonight. And walmart is planning to give raises of a dollar more per hour to about 165,000 of its workers across the Country Company says its all part of a move to increase walmarts minimum wage in some positions that means hourly wages for many workers will jump from 11 to 15 an hour. The Company Also Reports its creating new team leader roles at some of its stores and hourly wages there for that job can reach 30 an hour. Being prepared for a Natural Disaster is of course essential but deciding what to pack and what to leave behind can be tough. Store owner shows us just how and what to pack. Its so important be prepared before disaster happens to you know you can take care of yourself or your family from jeff edelstein. Im under a survival products, my initial thoughts with with last months earthquake was people are already panicked right now so it didnt create any destruction and its a great reminder because its the middle of the night and its like bam. I need to get prepared if you have to evacuate your house. One of the things i like having isnt under the bed cut the duffel bag shoes and gloves in it and whistles so if you get stuck in the room crowbars a good idea if you have to pry open the door to get out so putting together under the bed kid is a great idea. Ahead of time in the venture disasters, the first thing that clears out in stores is food and water. So theres all types of food available to all the freetrade food. They have anywhere from 2 to 30 years shelflife water is something that you also want to prepare for once you have water set aside have more set aside my Top Priorities with emergency supplies are food water and lighting if you have no flashlights or no light it what would you do everybody is connected to some sort of devices whether its your phone and ipad or whatever it is having something that you could charge those devices out i think the most valuable thing people can do is use the earthquake as a wakeup call set aside some food, some water. Some first aid and power outage supplies lanterns flashlights batteries. Those are simple things but bottom line get prepared dont wait till the disaster happens dont be reactionary get prepared beforehand. On it with jardiance. Ask your doctor about jardiance. Good morning, welcome back 7. 30 this sunday morning were taking a live look outside right now from sutro cam and to a lot of clearing this morning, dave little haziness in the background but overall looks like a beautiful start to the day it is mardy going to be a wonderful sunday little bit warmer than what we saw from yesterday but thats only one day bump and then were actually going to cool off a little bit so if you its almost like a goldilocks type of week day forecast if you want little cooler we got that if you want a little warmer got a 2 and a starts today live shot from the Golden Gate Bridge and not much of a breeze either we can see here will have a little bit of a breeze later in the forecast period. After these waves come our way kind of correcting temperatures swing of things around the bay bridge toll plaza shot much brighter as you can see as the sun gets a little higher over the horizon there so this is what were talking about upstream this collection up here is going to bring in these waves of a cooler temperatures behind all of it like to say sometimes we later in the season will sometimes get opportunities for some showers but this doesnt appear to be that urnas we might get some coastal drizzle on tuesday or something but basically were but is going to notice temperatures falling just a little bit weve got 50s 60s on the board in fact mostly 50s 50s up to the north bay antioch has 64 61 hayward 59 meanwhile for san jose and we are trailing this morning. But we will catch up probably before 10 oclock this morning in terms of where the numbers fared compared to yesterday. The breakdown today. But its about 7711 by 2 up to 88 so this afternoon will feel warm in those inland spots there might have to be reaching for the only sea for a couple of hours and yes, no delays happening at sfo marty all thanks a lot. We continue to follow the latest on the death of Supreme CourtJustice Ruth Bader ginsburg. And the political fallout that weve seen since her passing from the outside the Nations Capital seems to be in quiet reflection. But behind the scenes things are happening quickly as republicans in the senate and the president are scrambling now to fill her seat with just weeks to go until the president ial election. President trump said on saturday that despite the election being just weeks away. He will nominate a replacement for Justice Ginsburg as soon as this week. So i think were going to start the process extremely soon. And you will have a nominee very soon we have an obligation to them to all of those voters. Its a very simple thing i could see most likely it would be a woman. Kayla strayer now with more on that from north carolina. With just 45 days until election day President Donald Trump telling a large crowd in fayetteville tonight that he will quickly nominate a replacement for the late Supreme Court justice ruth ginsburg. Josie yet, but we have numbers women on the list. I feel this incredible list of brilliant people. The crowd chanting fill that seat. The president then taking a poll of the crowd in fayetteville asking if they want him to nominate a man or a woman the crowd shouting louder for a woman disapprove. Democrats want the nomination delayed until after the election, the republican senator thom tillis now locked in a selection battle telling the crowd. The president has the responsibility and the authority to act now. As a member of the Judiciary Committee ive seen the last of hes going to nominate one of those just this is now going to vote for their confirmation. Speaking about covid19 President Trump saying trends are improving and that schools and businesses need to reopen he also says hes launching a new role america less than plan for students, teaching them that america is quote the most exceptional country and we will teach our children to love our country. Always respect our Great American flag. And Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell has already promised to call for a vote on President Trumps outraged democrats are saying that republicans should instead follow the precedent that was set by gop legislators back in 2016 by refusing to consider a Supreme Court choice before a president ial election. It was also Justice Ginsburgs dying wish for her replacement not to be named until after the election. Democratic president ial nominee joe biden told reporters how that vacancy should be handled. Let me be clear. The voters. Should take the president. The president should take to justice for the senate to consider. This was the position of the Republican Senate took in 26 2. When they were almost 10 months to go before the election. Thats the position United States senate must take today. Were less than 45 days until the november election and it is worth noting joe bidens pick for vp senator Kamala Harris sits on the house Judiciary Committee committee which handles judicial confirmations. Well there have been countless vigils and rallies to honor Justice Ginsburg, including one at the State Capitol in sacramento, where hundreds of people showed up to pay their respects and honor her life and legacy. As the second woman ever to serve on the nations highest court for a lot of people there the death of Justice Ginsburg has been tough to take. We as women have the site. But we had a champion her i was. Cried. She was on the dc court of appeals when i was a law student was the antithesis of the stereotypes that usually get through when she had a confidence in a win in that make people comfortable with razor sharp you know her descents were some of the finest we had Supreme Court bench. And those paying their respects at the capitol say that our bee gees grace and intelligence are just some of the reason she became an icon in a position thats been dominated by men. A little bit of a warmup coming our way for your sunday temperatures in the 80s lining up the east bay shoreline inland into the lower 90s your 4 zone good morning welcome back and were expecting another Beautiful Day around the bay today days for us and tell us all about it heidi it is marvelous good morning. Marty good morning everybody little bit of a warmup coming our way beautiful sunshine. We can see an sfo going on here temperatures on the board weve got 50s 60s mixture mostly still in the 50s right now just get the sun. A little time to catch up, well be a little warmer than we were this time from yesterday sending real quick in the gulf of mexico. We have this Unfinished Business of this Tropical Storm i know a lot of the squall lines are east of where the center is now max winds at last clock and all of us about 60 Miles Per Hour classified as a Tropical Storm. Couple storm beta weve run out of letters however Going Forward with the system. It doesnt look like it could become a hurricane like earlier projections and it gets picked up by it to the west or lees and marches right through the ohio valley in the form of rain and some locally Severe Weather so outside of the coastal areas of texas its going to lose a lot of its tropical characteristics relatively quickly back on our coast. This is what happens going upstream here. This is the game changer. After we get to the latter portion of the week as you will notice thursday night into friday, little opportunity pick up maybe some showers but everybody is going to get cooler temperatures with all of that too in the wake of all of this, although well warm up a little bit by the weekend. But at least take another breather come friday, so temperatures kind of bouncing up and down all week long kind of indicative a fall or spring. Highs today, we got those 90s and much of the Central Valley going on says 92 for bakersfield 70s and 80s down south 78 going on for San Francisco, 75 monterey get little closer here in the 4 zone forecast 79 for Mission District alcatraz about 65 will do lower 70s covering the coast 73 for daly city on the bay side upper 70s to 82 burlingame heading down south a stone 80s department here 87 palo alto 86 redwood city 84 from mountain view. And down south in the south bay, only Morgan Hill Los gatos managing about 90 or so most other readings in Santa Clara Valley will be in the upper 80s, some lower 80s going on the east bay shoreline to the south here lower 90s to tri valley 94, dublin looks like 93 walnut creek 92 going on for concord 85 san leandro 84 oakland and berkeley, even for richmond looks like 82 vallejo got some lower 90s ups Little CountyVacaville Fairfield 87 for napa and about an 88 a rose in more 80s heading down south beaches, not looking bad at 66 for stenson beach. So a brief warmup we have today in response to the calendar we to see temperatures fall with our first little system here. Monday tuesday zone much of the week pretty much hanging in the 80s there little bit of a warmup happens friday after that system, however, and its really thursday night temperatures kind of cool off a little bit as we watch the little system maybe bring a little sprinkle summaries that they will see we get closer marty okay, thanks a lot. Well, california still in the early stages of its most destructive wildfire season in history. All told close to 3 and a half million acres have burned here in california. And if you include oregon and washington that number will increase to 5 million acres that have been burned. Scientists say the average wildfire season is 78 days longer than it was 50 years ago. President trump has blamed poor Forest Management for this years wildfires, even though a majority of californias forests are controlled by the federal government. Scientists agree that both Forest Management and Climate Change are to blame. Rising temperatures. Causing increased drying of the vegetation america can no longer afford to deny that connection between the Climate Crisis and the wildfires. Democratic lawmakers say they have introduced legislation to try and help fend the forests responsibly but so far political disagreements are blocking the funds that are needed to tackle forge management or Climate Change. Cal fire says that it expects the czu lightning complex fire in san mateo and santa cruz counties to be fully contained by this evening that fire is currently 99 contained and has burned more than 86,000 acres as for the other bay area fires the lnu and scu complex fires. I cant find any jory are all i can find is my part of a growing collection the only thing still visible the shells of appliances in the skeleton of the Homes Foundation right there was my entryway over there. Another back room back there. Right about in the middle. And our bedroom and the other bass run is over there the edges left in the middle of the night after the fire raced over the hills near their home make sure you know all the skies blowing in through the trees is getting brighter and brighter. Finally when i walked out last time i checked. I could see the glow all the way around us. Just really bright and. You can almost see the yellow and the flame once we started. Actually evacuating and. There was fire on both sides of the road. Just down the road were all still just in shock as what do what we do next. Peggy barney is coming back to whats left of her home for the first time there were 3 of us on this property that rented here and. 1, 2, 3, were there got she didnt leave with much got put on my favorite necklace, my favorite ring Everything Else is somewhere in there. Is like a really sweet your mardi a good morning, good morning, everybody live shot coming in from walnut creek where temperatures are going to be pushing up to around 90s. So if you want some of the warm weather back again and not the spare the air day problems which we dont have a we have all today and actually improving on both fronts of the wanted cooler getting into early week as fall gets here live shot coming in from sfo, no delays this morning. A look at bay Area Temperatures weve got 70 now for csic going on concord 59 livermore east bay shoreline, the lower 60s. 50s up to the north bay 61 meanwhile for San Francisco. So watching things go forward from pull hill temperature wise for today. You see all these waves out to sea here over the next day or so and thats going to bring back our temperatures down just in time for the rival fall on tuesday. Possible maybe a coastal morning sprinkle on Tuesday Morning as a possibility there and certainly the fog and drizzle. Thank but thats why not going to penetrate further inland so early in the season, the beginning some of this so be patient hopefully in the later fall, well get something out of the systems but speaking of those systems and waves coming our way of advanced there when map all the way to monday morning also this is monday morning Going Forward in the afternoon with typical day time heating this is going to be a little bit more active than what were going to see this afternoon winds picking up a little bit from the onshore direction little bit northwesterly usual notice due west on the peninsula and the east bay shoreline, the winds subside very quickly into the evening that takes us south towards tuesday. So the game plan is this morning haze gives way to sunny to mostly sunny. Bay Area Temperatures. In 80s going on here will 70s run the the bay of that and some 90s even inland happening early in the week were race the 90s its back to 70s and 80s thing and then late in the week we warm back up again temporarily for wednesday thursday. Another collection of waves coming our way getting into thursday friday. That holds a little possibility of maybe getting some inland sprinkles with that well see we get a little closer. It doesnt look very quantitatively enough on any count. But it does cool us off a little bit will bring us some winds 78 one on San Francisco 84 open 86 san jose across the wider bay. Most readings will be inland still in the 80s like up in the north bay but will be some pockets of some lower 90s besides what you see conquer deliver more some per hour around a Solano County as well of course well have that in your 4 zone forecast coming up in a bit part sounds good dave. Thank you. Well a father and his young son are back on solid ground this morning after a morning hike yesterday turned into a rescue situation. All right dave thanks a lot back to the news this morning were continuing to follow the latest on the death of Supreme CourtJustice Ruth Bader ginsburg and the political fallout that weve seen since her passing from the outside the Nations Capital seems to be in quiet reflection but behind the scenes things are happening very quickly as republicans in the senate and the president are scrambling to fill her seat with just weeks until the election. President trump said on saturday that despite the election being just weeks away. He plans to nominate a replacement for Justice Ginsburg as soon as this week. So i think were going to start the process extremely soon. And well have a nominee very soon we have an obligation to them to all of those voters. Its a very simple thing i could see most likely it would be a woman. Well at a rally in north carolina, the president said he could name his Supreme CourtSupreme Court nominee as we mentioned as early as this week if the senate votes and confirms the nominee it would serve a solidified a significant conservative see a shift in the court over the past 4 years, Justice Ginsburg spent her final years on the bench as the unquestioned leader of the courts liberal wing but during a Raleigh North CarolinaPresident Trump said he he will try to replace her with another woman, but most analysts say thats likely where the similarities will end. As we meet tonight, our nation mourns the loss of illegal giant Supreme CourtJustice Ruth Bader ginsburg. A landmark rulings fierce devotion to justice center. A courageous battle against cancer inspire all americans. You may agree you may not disagree with her, but. She was an inspiration to a tremendous number of people i say all americans. Is getting very close relationship with. A friend of ours a friend of mine just as scalia. Is also a powerful reminder that we can disagree on fundamental issues. Well treating each other with decency dignity and respect. Earlier this month, the president released the names of potential Supreme Court nominees democratic president ial nominee, joe biden has promised to nominate a black woman to the high court if given the opportunity the Biden Campaign says it plans to release names of its Supreme Court candidates before the election. Senate Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell is already promised to call a vote for President Trumps nominee, but outraged democrats say republicans should follow the precedent set by gop legislative legislators in 2016 by refusing to consider a Supreme Court choice before a president ial election. It was also Justice Ginsburgs dying wish for her replacement not to be named in till after the election. There have been countless vigils and rallies to honor Justice Ginsburg, including one at the State Capitol in sacramento, hundreds of people showed up there to pay their respects to honor her life and legacy. Welcome back to kron 00 04am morning news, good morning, everybody live shot coming in from walnut as we watch the sun join us this morning is one of the spots were looking for temperatures to flirt with the lower 90s come this afternoon sfo, no delays this morning. As the sun comes up here as well and no delays yes, the scene traffic going on all the sporting like that you see as you see. 60s cover good chunk of the east bay for now somebodys going on for still trailing up here in the north bay, although no bottles got up to 61 50s elsewhere, 64 meanwhile for San Francisco in 61, san jose. Sandy dahl the gulf of mexico. The heavy rain just south of new orleans, however are circulation area this subtropical system is towards the west of that and not a lot of movement is expected with a beta now weve run out of letters went out to go to the greek alphabet as we did in 2005. This is going to stay a Tropical Storm in its path way makes a big turn and the tropical moisture we set up to the ohio valley it may still be tropical and definition but it will really be broken up by that point so just heavy rain as was expected. And its good news that somethings carrying it to get taken out of there. So we dont have too much flooding in eastern texas back on our coast. Warm today. Then as we get into the early part of cooling down a little bit recovering briefly and then end the week looks interesting as we watch these waves coming in maybe thursday night like a coastal sprinkle maybe penetrating a little inland is a possibility, but the bigger issue will be little drop in temperatures as we kind of finish off the week only to warm up by the weekend it looks likely that high kind of playing keep away by sunday morning. Our highs today in the 90s for the Central Valley, 78 San Francisco down to the south we have 81 san diego and 70 going on for big bear 75 for l a x on the home front in your 4 zone forecast 78 San Francisco to the coast will do lower 70s, not bad for the coast of the beaches. Weve got a 70s going on for the bay side of the peninsula 82 for burlingame and down south were holding off to the 90s here were keeping the 80s on tap here, 87 for a palo alto 84 for mountain view, 86 redwood city. The south bay most readings will be in the upper 80s. But morgan hill scratch and 90 looks like along with los gatos in the southern end of the east bay shoreline, a mixture of 80s here lower 90s cover tri valley, dublin at 90 we have several 90s on here today Danville San Ramon 93 going on for walnut creek, meanwhile, 86 castro valley, 85 personally and row Solano County some lower 90s off towards the east 82 for billy hope aneesh 8046 pittsburgh, 87 for napa in 88 center rose with more 80s heading down south 79 mill valley. So heres the temperatures slide a little bit as we welcome in fall by tuesday at 83 and then another little jump downward as you can see to thursday with other stronger system maybe that holds the possibility of maybe a stray shower and a pretty nice into the next weekend. It looks like marty all right dan thanks a lot. Well, california is still in the early stages of its most destructive wildfire season in history. All told close to 3 and a half million acres have been burned here in california. And if you include oregon and washington that number increases to 5 million acres. Scientists say the average wildfire season is now 78 days longer compared to 50 years ago. President trump has blamed poor Forest Management for this years wildfires, even though a majority of californias forests are controlled by the federal government. Scientists agree that both foraged man force management and Climate Change are to blame. Rising temperatures. Causing increased drying of the vegetation america can no longer afford to deny that connection between the Climate Crisis and the wildfires. Democratic lawmakers say that theyve introduced legislation to help fend for us responsibly but so far political disagreements are blocking the funds needed to tackle fords man force management or Climate Change. Cal fire says it expects the czu lightning complex fire in san mateo and santa cruz counties to be fully contained by tonight that fire is currently 99 contained and has burned more than 86,000 acres as for the other fires in the bay area, the lnu and scu complex fires are both at 98 containment this morning. Cal fire says although the growth of these fires has essentially stopped it will still be several days before theyre fully contained. And the eskew f from complex fire thats burning near Sequoia National park is forcing more mandatory evacuations so far the fire has burned more than 133,000 acres is just 14 contained this morning. People who live in the area of mineral king and silver city have been ordered to leave another dozen communities are now facing the risk of evacuations as well as this fire continues to grow cal fire still not sure when that blaze will be contained. I wish i hope that they might i hope every day that i see it i know i know this terrain i know the thickness of the brush. Well the historical landmark mineral king is also on the fires path Officials Say losing it would be devastating. Familys 400 foot long. And. So its out there, its are watching burn and then i pulled down to the lower area on this to point out there watch it burn. Wow well a member of cal fire in his family trying to rebuild their lives following a Massive Wildfire that destroyed their home less than 3 weeks after they moved in. Back on september 6th captain least in dryden was battling the creek fire in Fresno County when he learned the flames were threatening his home as well. His family was still unpacking when the fire erupted so dryden left his crew on the fire line and rushed home to help his wife and 3 kids evacuate. Once they left he stayed behind to protect the house from fire. But there was nothing he could do once the flames reached his neighborhood. You know its its hard to build in. Watch your own home burned let alone other peoples homes burned their possessions but. It really hits home and its here on house. Yeah, it sure does all the family members are safe despite losing their homes so theyre now in the process of looking for a new one, the creek fire meantime has burned more than 271,000 acres in fresno and madera counties its now 25 contained this morning. All right, lets go ahead take you outside for a live look at conditions from the embarcadero camera this morning we have some blue sky in the background should have plenty of sunshine around the bay area. Just a little bit of that haze going on right here at this little selective spot here elsewhere across the bay looking pretty good. This coming in from the bay bridge toll plaza with some of the haze to the background temperatures. This may not be the hourly update just yet though for the 9 oclock hour well say 60 to 4 conquered 59 livermore 74 and he talked with still 50s up to the north bay, nevada with 61. The lowdown today 81 by high noon by 3 oclock at 90 thats a pretty rapid rise that we see going into the afternoon. Thats just today though cooling off just in time for fall though marty okay, thanks a lot. Well as we all know the pandemic is either delayed postponed or canceled so many events this year. Well this years best and surprise went to sugar a 10 yearold champ from Huntington Beach and all the proceeds go to a great cause they go to an Animal Shelter in San Diego County. And still ahead for us this morning, San Francisco schools can reopen tomorrow, but its not going to be easy to do so reyna harvey has the latest on that and live report. Everybody, thank you so much for joining us on the kron 4 morning news. It is sunday September Marty gonzales and im noelle bellow it supposed to be another gorgeous day across the bay area karl, the fog though come out to play a little bit this morning dave star has standing by with a look at our forecast today. Yeah, good morning well good morning marty good morning, everybody and you know what he found the golden gate this was a hangout this is a little hangout venture here just for a couple of hours and probably clearing out as it has through most of the bay and harvey any fog performance going on for today at all little highpressure moment by the way no spare the air day going on today and that forecast looks to improve to going into the week. Heres a far shot to get the kind of a perspective everything were going to temper on all the way to the distance there. It is the fog pouring in over the golden gate. Temperatures thus far were in the 60s over most the real estate in the east bay 74 antioch 60s now up to the north bay these the new 9 oclock hour 66 san jose and 64 meanwhile for San Francisco reflecting that most trees up here in the north bay now finally ahead of yesterday just trailing a touch on the east bay shoreline but again that will be corrected because today expected to be warmer than yesterday 85 looks like by 1 oclock by 4. At 90 theyll be some 90s in the board investigate well have some more of that coming up in just a bit well party. All right, thanks dave. The San FranciscoUnified School District had set a goal. Of resuming at least some in Person Learning by monday yeah, but it appears that the prior district has made some progress but. It looks like theyre going to miss that deadline kron fours reyna harvey has more now from the District Offices, reyna. Marty well good morning he looked parents and students and everybody wants to be back in the classroom. They missed each other been able to talk to a lot of them. But it does not look like thats going to be happening tomorrow or any time soon so again the district including the county in the city they had guidelines they thought they were going to be able to open their doors and welcome the kids back starting tomorrow monday can you imagine that were in red tier system right now which means that schools can open it doesnt look like theyre going to be resuming there are some safety plans that the district want schools to be able to submit here are those on your screen. How well can that school of comedy face coverings at all times how much of an ability they have to physically distance their students in classrooms can limit the number of people per square feet limit the duration of exposure also limited the amount of physical interactions with visitors now on september 1st the beginning of this month, the local stay safer at home order was revised that wants San Francisco has been in the rent here or lower for 14 consecutive days thats when you can see t k through 12 schools, start to reopen for in Person Learning. Now again we also know that private schools potentially weve heard word. Private schools, reaching out and submitting that although that has to be approved and we havent heard any approval from the public School District so again what were doing is monitoring that for you guys because a lot of people are looking to see when can kids go back to school and it doesnt look like its going to be in the next couple of weeks even months potentially we could see schools reopening at the start of next year but for now reporting here in San FranciscoReyna Harvey Kron 4 news so exactly what is the cut off. So we just havent been in the red tier for long enough thats why they cant go back. Well, i mean its not just even about the rent here also you have to have the School Districts that actually feel comfortable with bringing their kids back to school and although we might see a decline in cases you might not see a lot of things popping up and we havent seen that weve been getting a lot of good news lately. Its it has to do with how comfortable the schools are with allowing students to come back into their classrooms and quite frankly, it looks like theyre just not comfortable quite yet. But again we are hoping that these get squared away so kids can get back to learning in the classrooms and not just at those one oh one lessons with mom and dad like a lot of people have been doing that yeah i know that a lot of kids are ready to get back to seeing their friends and what not but if the districts arent necessarily ready to welcome them back then theyve got to stay home for now, thanks right now. Well were now 6 months into the coronavirus pandemic in nearly 200,000 people here in the u. S. Have died from the virus. According to Johns Hopkins university more than 6. 7 million cases have been reported here in the u. S. Lets take a look now at the latest numbers in california as we continue to lead the country in the number of cases at 774,000 cases, golden state also reporting nearly 15,000 people have died from the virus. But the states Positivity Rate has dropped slightly to just over 3 . Now here in the bay area there have been 96,000 confirmed cases nearly 1400 deaths. While were still in the middle of that pandemic were also approaching the height of flu season this weekend Santa Clara County opened up a free walkup flu shot clinic, and hundreds of people took advantage of this kron fours felipe de gaulle was out there. By noon 400 people had received their flu shot at the Santa Clara County fairgrounds in san jose i work all week, im busy all week. So they see on a saturday just get it out of the way the free walkup clinic open saturday and we continue operating through the fall every saturday from 9 in the morning through 4 oclock in the afternoon, its super important for me to be healthy not just for me, but i have nephews that i want to take care of like i have people who are high risk i want to make sure that theyre safe and theyre protected no need to set an appointment and you dont need to be insured the county says everyone 3 years of age or older is eligible for the shot regardless of immigration of i just want to be safe its for my safety also the county Public HealthDepartment Says we should all get vaccinated for influenza virus once a year. The centers for Disease Control and prevention says the flu season, typically peaks between december and february each year people last severe flu. If your flu shot of covid19 testing site is also conveniently located across the street from the fairgrounds. This couple got tested one virus and vaccinated for another within an hour kind of scared of these are going to run. And to see how everybodys very concerned with getting sick this year 6 months way to the flu clinic will run through mid december in san jose felipe that all kron 4 news. Well salons have reopens nail shops Retail Stores have to but churches are still closed in the archdiocese of San Francisco is planning to march against those restrictions today at 10 00am a free the mass marches going to start at un plaza near city hall. From there everyone will march to saint marys cathedral, which will then be followed by an outdoor mass the archdiocese says they just want the same level of operation as other organizations. And still ahead this morning as millions of people are mourning Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg staff politicians on both sides of the aisle are now looking at filling her vacant seat were going to take a look at the growing tensions in washington d c. Plus theres new dashcam video that shows the moments First Responders raced to save people from the raging wildfires in oregon will have that video coming up. And also a shooting in San Francisco caught on camera were going to hear from neighbors who startled awake by bullets hitting their building. But first well have an update for you on tik tok and the president s proposed ban its still in the app store this morning well explain why an good morning welcome back we have brand new dash cam video First Responders who are racing to save people from the raging wildfires in oregon. The video is leaving a lot of people in the community there speech what you have reporter jenny young sat down with 2 sheriffs deputies. Her sharing their story of the night they will always remember. Well i think any of us saw anything different except we need to say this people lives Senior Deputy sheriff Casey Burnham was supposed to be camping with his family on labor day. But when the fire started making its way along the santiam canyon, he answered the call to help save people in its path it came in so fast. They said one man driving under trees down next month the fire this dash cam video from drivethru as he made his way to gate shows an almost never ending mind of headlights as people escaped burning towns i cant go into games in his eye. My post 34 look to my right and theres car stopped. And i saw fire burning says he and another deputy went street to street making noise letting people know it was time to go lights and sirens screaming evacuate evacuate and i can see the fire cresting or edges and coming towards us and take a look this isnt mill city as Senior Deputy tom barber pulled up to what used to be kellys lumber and it was fully engulfed and on the other side of the road has also fixated by that because ive been to kellys before had bought lumber before arbor and the Marion County sheriffs swat team were sent to evacuate detroit around 11 that night were driving code 3 all the way up the canyon among the several lives he helped save were nearly 2 dozen people at a Church Retreat in silverton the fire was approaching us and coming up the backside of that church through a church camp. You can see the glow. You could just smell it you could feel you can feel that it was coming on and it was time to get those people out jenny young. Fog roll on in at the golden gate as you can see here just a little check what they Area Temperatures most of the readings in the 60s now and go to somebody theyre going on for look at your sunday forecast coming up the kron 4 morning news continues. Well after weeks of poor air quality this weekend sunshine and good temperatures brought out the crowds. This is what fort mason looks like on saturday unfortunately doesnt really look like there were a lot of masks on display lot of people just kind of gathering together mike. Well, theyre also big crowds in Lafayette Park in the city and we did see some sfpd volunteers out there handing out masks to those who needed them. Today is supposed to be even warmer than yesterday. So you can kind of that folks are going to be out and about again, yeah and no spare the warning or alert for all the bay area thats nice to hear their stories and has more on that idea of a good morning guys good morning everybody were starting things off with just a little bit of haze going on right around the Golden Gate Bridge and some leftover fog if you will this the Broad Perspective from temper on a little bit. And sfo not happening there. No delays this morning traffics been going nicely 60s cover most the east bay for right now and the ox up to 7660s now have been incorporated in the north bay but way for a while with that in the 40s in the 50s earlier 65 San Francisco. 66 coming in for san jose. In the short term period not much happens were warm today, but then some disturbances come by just in time for fall now all were going to get out of this is maybe some stray clouds, but a little bit of a breeze going on a little bit on short influence and cooler temperatures you might also get some drizzle potentially maybe Tuesday Morning at the coast. But thats about really all were going to get everybodys going to cool down just a touch on the dancing this all the way till monday morning to go through monday and then by the Late Afternoon theres the uptick with winds that we typically get them. But this is going to be stronger than what were going to get today because of whats going on here so not to clear the broader base. Factors everything so we have this onshore wind northwesterly up in the north bay basically due west as you can see down the peninsula and most of the east bay shoreline doesnt last for a long time. But its coming with the cooler influence for us for looks like tuesday. So the game plan after take care of this morning haze is going to mostly sunny for most locations, warm with temperatures 80s and some token 90s inland that gets kicked back early part of the week so get everybody down to 70s and 80s then late in the week. Warm back up again. But here come some of those ways this will be stronger ways by weeks end calling us back down again and those hold a may be picking up a little stray shower potentially, lets hope maybe thursday night 78 when on San Francisco open about 80 86, san jose across the wider bay we do see some 90s to be had here and the far east bay and even some up in the north bay to well take a closer inspection of all that in your 4 zone forecast take a look at the extended and whats going on with the tropics to marty ok. Thank you dave. The dead his young son are back on solid ground after a morning hike turned into a rescue situation yesterday. Now according to the San FranciscoFire Department the 2 were hiking at fort funds fort funston when they tried to go down a cliff to reach the water but then they got stuck nearly 70 feet down that cliff dad had his phone he called 911 emergency crews hiked about a mile to rescue them. It took about an hour to bring the pair down to safety. But we understand this morning, both of them are doing just fine. Now to the east bay this morning Richmond Police are searching for answers in a driveby shooting that killed a bay area rapper and injured 2 other people. It happened friday just before noon near 4th street and mcdonald avenue. Investigators say 29 yearold lamont a butcher who used the stage name tay way was shot and killed. Detectives say 2 other people were injured, but theyve been released from the hospital so far police have not made any arrests. While shots rang out in a neighborhood in San FranciscoEarly Saturday Morning neighbors were startled out of sleep as you can see in that video by that barrage of bullets hitting their apartments kron fours gayle ong has more. No one was hurt in the shooting i spoke to the woman who lived through that scary moment when gunshots hit her apartment that moment caught on video. Its several shots her just after 12 30am saturday. There are about. 1310 13 gunshots. I was startled my boyfriend told me get down get down and then initely it stopped there was like a screech you can see bullet holes inside the apartments where this all took place on monterey boulevard in San Francisco. 3 top floor apartments were hit. No one was hurt and the heineken was getting ready to go to sleep when she heard the shots it was only credit moments later that i realized there isnt a bullet hole through our wall. It was right i had laying. Right ahead hate enright in an area i had basically just walked by that like 10 minutes prior San Francisco police have not commented on the incident but shot could be seen on the ground across the street marking the shell casings the police when they showed up they showed up pretty quickly. In a moment theres in Francisco Police are also investigating a number of recent battery assault in several different neighborhoods, those assaults have been reported in the Richmond Seacliff pacific and Laurel Heights neighborhoods. Police say those attacks have been taking place between 06 10pm victims report being groped we talked with one victim who wants to remain anonymous. The suspect is described only as a 6 foot tall man last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt anyone who has information is asked to contact San Francisco police. And still ahead this morning a Natural Disaster of course can strike at a moments notice and coming up after the break. Were going take a look at what you need to do to stay prepared. Welcome back 9. 24 here on this sunday morning in the clock was ticking on tick tock us ban on the app was set to go into effect at midnight tonight, but its been avoided President Trump approved a deal actually between the app oracle and walmart to now form a new company that would be based in the u. S. , the president said it would hire 25,000 people and contribute 5 billion dollars to an education fund. The white house had flagged tick tock is a threat to National Security stating the Chinese Company byte dance which owns the ap had collected data on users here in the u. S. A judge has also put put on hold an embargo on the app we chat here in the u. S. That would have required apple and google to remove it for downloads by late tonight. Walmart plans to give raises of a dollar or more per hour this would apply to around 165,000 of its workers across the country. The company says its part of a move to increase walmarts minimum wage in some of their positions which means hourly wages for many workers will jump from 11 to about 15 per hour. The Company Also Reports its creating new team leader roles at some of its stores with hourly wages that can reach 30 an hour, good news there already. The and being prepared for naturals of the disaster of course is so important here in the bay area and in california but deciding what to pack and what to leave behind can be tough when west store owner shows us just want and how to pack. Its so important be prepared before disaster happens to you know you can take care of yourself or your family from jeff edelstein. Im under a survival products, my initial thoughts were with last months earthquake was people are already panicked right now so it didnt create any destruction and its a great reminder because its the middle of the night and its like bam. I need to get prepared if you have to evacuate your house. One of the things i like having isnt under the bed cut the duffel bag shoes and gloves in it, whistle. So if you get stuck in the room crowbars a good idea if you have to pry open the door to get out so putting together under the bed kid is a great idea. Ahead of time in the venture disasters, the first thing that clears out in stores is food and water. So theres all types of food available to all the free street food, they have anywhere from 2 to 30 years shelflife water is something that you also want to prepare for once you have water set aside have more set aside my Top Priorities with emergency supplies are food water and lighting if you have no flashlights or no light it what would you do everybody is connected to some sort of devices whether its your phone and ipad or whatever it is having something that you could charge those devices out i think the most valuable thing people can do is use the earthquake as a wakeup call set aside some food, some water. Some first aid and power outage supplies lanterns flashlights batteries. Those are simple things but bottom line get prepared dont wait till the disaster happens dont be reactionary get prepared beforehand. Good advice well coming up on kron 00 04am morning news, a growing memorial outside the Supreme Court for Ruth Bader Ginsburg as President Trump reveals his plans for filling the vacancy will have more detail back to the kron 00 04am morning news, it is 9. 30 here on this sundays summer around for just a few more days but fall right around the corner karl, the fog is a live look you can see the Golden Gate Bridge and karl just playing around what a beautiful view yet of fall of falls in on what tuesday tuesday. Yeah it gets here right. Its the attorney im not a criminal has a follower a good morning this is a live shot coming in you seen what the golden gate looks like high above this is far away there it is off to the distance again a little of that was hanging around just a touch bay bridge toll plaza shots pretty nice those the east bay as the sun comes up over the east bay hills there. Now upstream in tandem with the calendar, you know, sometimes it doesnt work out this way we have a really hot day on the first day of fall, different stories going to be this because well watch a couple of waves come by starting really kind of tomorrow but into tuesday could help control those temperatures get that onshore wind cooking in here some scattered clouds a possibility maybe some showers up in the northwest and increased morning drizzle perhaps at the coast monday into tuesday. Things are happening quickly as the president and republicans in the senate work to fill her seat with just weeks before the election. And President Trump said on saturday that despite the election being just weeks away. He plans to nominate a replacement for Justice Ginsburg this week. So i think were going to start the process extremely soon. And you will have a nominee very soon we have an obligation to them to all of those voters. Its a very simple thing i could see most likely it would be a woman. Well Kayla Strayer has more on that now from north carolina. The democrats want the nomination delayed until after the election, the republican senator thom tillis now locked in a selection battle telling the crowd. The president has the responsibility and the authority to act now. As a member of the Judiciary Committee ive seen the last of justice. Hes going to nominate one of those just this is now going to vote for their confirmation. Speaking about covid19 President Trump saying trends are improving and that schools and businesses need to reopen he also says hes launching a new role america less than plan for students, teaching them that america is quote the most exceptional country and country will teach our children to love our country. Always respect our Great American flag. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburgs colleagues are now releasing their condolences on the loss of rbg mears just a few of them. Chief Justice John Roberts wrote our nation has lost a jurist of historic stature with the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague today we mourn, but with confidence that future generations will remember Ruth Bader Ginsburg as we knew her a tireless and resolute champion of justice. Justice Clarence Thomas wrote quote the most difficult part of a long tenure is watching colleagues decline and passed away in the passing of my Dear Colleague ruth is profoundly difficult and so very sad. He wrote quote i will dearly miss my friend. Justice Sonia Sotomayor called ginsburg, a new American Hero adding that she quote welcome to me to the court with a warmth i could not have expected. And came to feel a special kids kinship with her with someone whose wisdom kindness and unwavering support i could always rely on. I will forever cherish the moments we shared. With ginsburgs death the court is now split 5 to 3 with a conservative majority and thats likely to grow with the expected confirmation of whoever President Trump nominates. There have been countless vigils and rallies to honor ginsburg, including one at the State Capitol where hundreds paid their respects reporter eric rucker explains why her death is affecting so many americans. A gathering saturday to remember. And for some to say thank you. We as women have the site. For many the death of Justice Ginsburg has hit hard i was blown away, i cried. Sacramento based attorney Sherry Roscoe says that she was well aware of ginsburg before her ascension to the u. S. Supreme court. She was on the dc court of appeals when i was a law student. Nearly 3 decades later russ cesar bee gees grace and intelligence are just some of the reasons she became an icon all while in a position dominated by men. She was the antithesis of the stereotypes that usually get through when she had a confidence in a win in that make people comfortable with razor sharp, you know. I heard a sense for some of the finest we had Supreme Court fans.
