Thank you so much rob not to the north bay and one of the Largest School districts in Sonoma County has decided to stick with Distance Learning for the rest of the year. Kron fours Charles Clifford joins us now live from the north bay with more on this. Im sure this was not an easy decision for the district to make. Yeah a lot of parents around the bay area everywhere wondering you know when other kids to be able to go back to in person classes up in sonoma in santa rosa, the Public School district there decided last night that theyre going to keep their kids at home for at least the rest of the calendar year. Pledge on wednesday, the Santa Rosa City schools, board of education voted unanimously to keep all of its students on Distance Learning for the rest of the calendar year they say multiple reasons, including the fact that Sonoma County remains on the States Coronavirus watch list in the tier one category or purple meaning that schools cannot open yet because coronavirus is still spreading around the county the county has seen an uptick in the number of cases and the number of deaths over the last week the district is also concerned about the cost that would be associated with resuming in Person Learning the changes required to meet state and county guidelines for reopening schools could be significant in the district is unsure of how they would pay for those changes. On thursday afternoon we talked to several parents who were not surprised by the decision and there are disappointed that students wont be able to go back to class this year, but they understand its okay, you know they were going to change it to where they went back to school but then they just change it where theyre getting thats fine right now i wish that my kid makes my son could go back to school sooner. Im not surprised that its december i felt it would be that way. When when School Started and and i you know the districts have to do what they have to do and i am making the best decisions that they can. And back live now the question now is whether this decision by santa rosa Public Schools. What caused a domino effect with other School Districts around Sonoma County where they might also decide to keep their kids out of the classroom as well, but for now in the north bay Charles Clifford kron 4 news. For the rest of the semester students will be Distance Learning here in the san jose unified School District and the goal is to give families some consistency during this time when coronavirus is providing us a lot of unknowns and were also very the disruption that would be caused if we did open up schools and had to close them. So were trying to make sure when we do bring students back in person. We can keep that School Environment stable and not have students in and out on a frequent basis its important for families, its important for kids. You know students. They thrive in routines Santa Clara County has moved into the red tier 2 of the states colorcoded terror system which allows k through 12 grades to go back to school if the county remains in that tier for 2 consecutive weeks, however, the superintendent says while cases have slowdown in the county. Cases continue to rise specifically in san jose, so theyre not comfortable with reopening schools for in Person Learning to indoor gatherings are still prohibit in our county. We think our schools should reflect the Community Gatherings are ready. We dont want to put 30 students in a classroom while in Person Learning is the best type of learning they say that they will revert back to that one is known to be safer and hopefully that will be in 2021, were doing everything we can to support the technology. To give parents professional development on how to access these online platforms. We understand how hard this is this is one of the most challenging experiences. Families have ever gone through. The district will announce plans for next semester by early december, it will all depend on case numbers and on accessibility to testing as well as tracing, reporting in san jose Sarah Stinson kron 4 news. Today marks the first day that the bay area is clear of its record spare the air alert after a whole month of really poor air quality i want to show you now this interactive map. Thats on our website kron 4 dot coms you can see what conditions are like in your neighborhood, mostly green areas are indicating good air quality extends farther south into salinas and north and to the Mendocino National forest, the whole bay area breathing. In some fresh air today and although the air quality in the barry is good right now that is not the case for the rest of the state. Take a look at this picture from Yosemite National park. The park is actually closing tonight because the air quality is so hazardous. Park officials made the announcement just about an hour ago all park entrances will close at 5 oclock tonight and this is expected to last at least through the weekend. The smoke is coming from the creek fire which is burning nearby yosemite is expected to reopen to visitors when conditions improve and it is safe for visitors and employees to be inside the park. Things look like outside right now as we take a live outside at the Golden Gate Bridge that fog bank really thick today. But the sky is blue just beyond that our meteorologist Mabrisa Rodriguez is here now with a look at the conditions right now good just seen. Yeah we are noticing the return of that marine layer things to those widespread westerly breezes but for those of you throughout the east bay shoreline. Crystal clear blue skies, but you can make out that fog bank along the immediate coastline of the bay area, thanks to a weak storm that is going to develop during the overnight hours bringing us some widespread coastal drizzle and cooler falllike temperatures for the end of your workweek forecast but air quality out there right now green is good so at the surface not tracking that smoke a National Even though we dont have a spare the air alert in effect right now we still have an air quality advisory in effect because of smoke and ash in the upper levels so just keep that in mind that advisory will continue from now through friday temperatures for the most part a few degrees of cooling, especially along the coast of the San Francisco peninsula right now in the mid 60s, there. And widespread mid 70s throughout the east bay shoreline with upper 70s and low to mid 80s as you make your way inland but a little bit toasty in parts of the tribe valleys conquered in antioch flirting with 90s out there right now for your thursday afternoon. So a few degrees of cooling thinks it is cool sea breeze that onshore flow is in full force out there right now throughout downtown San Francisco seeing sustained winds at 20 Miles Per Hour with winds upwards of 25 Miles Per Hour earlier this afternoon, but future wind gusts will show calmer conditions tonight through friday morning but we are going to notice the return of those west and northwesterly breezes 20 per hour less by friday and cooler temperatures until high fire danger concerns start for the 2nd half of this weekend. More my full forecast in just a few minutes to see back to you think of a in the east bay now 3 people including a 2 yearold child are in Critical Condition after an overnight crash in antioch according to Contra Costa County fire officials. The car crashed into a tree trapping the toddler and the adults inside on lone tree way. Officials had to cut the car open in order to extradite the 3 people and you can see just how bad this crash was the entire front of the car has smashed in. One of the doors there is ripped off. The toddler was taken to oaklands Childrens Hospital and the adults were taken to john muir in walnut creek. The investigation is still ongoing into may have caused this horrific looking crash and coming up here on kron 4 news at 3. Why you may want to pick up the phone the next time an unknown number cost you. Plus lending a helping hand what an east bay salon is doing for hair stylists who have lost their jobs during the pandemic and right after the break, its been 6 months since the bay area west into a shelterinplace order where we stand now on Covid Infection rates and what we need to know as we head into that intentionally deadly flu season, a live interview is next. 6 months and counting it has been 6 months since that shelterinplace order was issued in the bay area and to this day there are over 94,000 infections and more than 1000 people have lost their lives to the virus. Weve gone over how we can do Remote Learning weve been working from home all of our lives of totally changed. But from more now on where we stand today and how we can prepare now as we head into the flu season. Were joined now by doctor peter, chinhong Infectious Disease specialist at ucsf thank you so much for joining us here on kron 4 news at 3. Thanks having me on testing so we know that our lives have totally changed. Since coronavirus started but what we learned. Well from the medical front weve learned a i remember in those early days, we were afraid of not knowing how we would get it out to be leaving my clothes in my trunk if i went home to my family has quarantine myself every time i saw a patient. So since then weve learned a lot about 100 protect those cells. I think the simple invention of a mosque something weve had a mind shift about since the beginning on the hospital front weve had a lot of new therapeutics remdesivir from goaliad convalescent you know and some of your agent said you know we weve been investigating and in patients with covid and we have a lot of progress in vaccines from operation warp speed so i think weve come a long way in those 6 months but want to 6 months those were right the other day when you talk about masks. I was wearing my mask and then i started looking around trying to find it knowing that they needed to leave the house having one like thats how use used to i am now of having it was already wearing it. Bear sing, but its true. So were i definitely feel make it right on my mind right. So were just used to it now and thats something were going to continue to do and were heading into flu season and theres this concern about this like double pandemic happening at once and how hospitals are going to be overwhelmed again like they usually are during flu season just with patients with the flu and now were adding covid on top of it is this how as a doctor as an Infectious Disease specialist power, Health Care System preparing for this. Well as the good and the flu. The good is that it spread the same way as covid has some somali for respiratory droplets so by protecting ourselves against covid well protect ourselves against the flu. The bad part about flu is like what you mentioned just seen. Were at such close. Were so close to the edge of the cliff every time with covid every time the syringe and you know go out to center around with wintery having think you want people indoors. So when we add the top on top of that the hospitalizations from flu you can imagine that there could be a point weather. The hospital reached tipping points but other part about flu is that it kids much more covid has. So we are probably going to expect to see more 6 hits. So as we enter into flu season are we even turning the corner on covid. Well i think you know weve been doing okay from a covid perspective weve done. First wave a second wave in california in the area was higher than the first wave. Were probably going to expect to see a in the fall and thats expected i think more indoors et i think you know its simmering in the background thats why we can really let our guard down its always there. Its like they. You know that that threat thats always and you know the environment so you know it just takes a little match so i sent back to rocks and fire. So are there things other than wearing a mask and washing my hands and try to keep my distance away from people that i can do to protect myself my family, my coworkers as we enter in the fall. Yes, totally i mean a simple invention of getting your flu vaccine as one of the most important things we can all do. And unlike covid we actually have good parties from flew to but you dont one and thats already have to going take 30 so getting that flu vaccine is so important is available right now right now in the hospital where all lining up to get them. I hope everyone in the community can go and get them as well, you know we just had a story the top of the hour, how Santa Clara County is making it. Easier for people to get them. Doctor peter. Chan hong thank you for joining us here on kron 4 news at 3 we always appreciate your advice and insight and hopefully the next 6 months will be a little bit easier on all of us. Thanks so much testing. Thank you all right, well switch gears now and talk about our 4 zone forecast as we take a live look outside at our camera in walnut creek along highway, 24. A nice afternoon here today and kron fours murray so rodriguez is here now with a look at our forecast. You got the flu shot right they have a Little Clinic here at work. Yeah, i know you did as well i just seen so very important lab are safe and healthy and lets take a look at Current Conditions out there right now in the bay area tracking some changes we are know to see mostly clear skies but that fog bank right along the immediate coastline cooling down temperatures in the mid 60s for downtown San Francisco in Half Moon Bay low 70s for those of you in alameda and in san jose in the mid 70s out there right now but dublin 81 degrees of petaluma currently in the mid 70s and stormtracker 4 were going to see a thicker marine layer during the overnight hours a week dry storm will sweep through the bay area bringing us some patchy coastal drizzle right along the coast, but most of the rain is going to remain well to our north and out in the pacific but we are going to get some measurable rain out of this for your friday morning just about a 10th of an inch of rain or less with a mix of sun and clouds by friday afternoon so cooler temperatures tonight, widespread 50s along the coast with low 60s as you make your way inland and tomorrow looking and feeling a lot more like fall even though it doesnt begin until next tuesday justine downtown San Francisco, 67 degrees with low 70s for oakland and hayward mid 70s for san jose and widespread upper 70s for the tri valley so out of the 80s for most of our inland areas and napa and santa rose in the north bay in the mid 70s until we warm up this weekend, especially sunday high fire danger concerns with the cut continuing and conditions of offshore winds by sunday into monday so going to keep an eye on that but then calmer cooler weather 7 days from now back to you. Thank you so much for brees son of a San Francisco salon owner involved in that controversy with House Speaker nancy pelosi. Is now being invited to relocate her business it closed in San Francisco. Erica kiosk closed her Marina District salon after receiving backlash for reese releasing Surveillance Video Speaker Pelosi getting her hair done inside the salon while not wearing a mask at the time salons were not allowed to be operating indoors in San Francisco. Well now Placer County supervisor body gore has posted a letter on her Facebook Page saying that the salon owner would be welcomed with open arms in her district. Pelosi says that she was set up by the owner. Still ahead here on fox news the 3 what you need to know about hawaii is new quarantine requirements. And up next wildfires are not the only challenge is volunteer rescue group space while trying to help livestock thats been left behind. While there are sometimes forced to abandon their rescue efforts. As people evacuate their homes during wildfires many of them are especially worried about the animals they had to leave behind there are volunteer rescue groups going behind the fire lines lines to pull pets and livestock to safety. But as ken wayne reports right now in todays flying tails are often stopped not only by the fire lines. But red tape as well. Its a heartbreaking decision for some fire victims to flee home without the chance to bring their pets or leave their livestock to safety. I was getting calls at 2 oclock 3 oclock in the morning with owners just in tears because they are have been panicking about getting their animals out. Chilly number is one of the founders of Northern California livestock rescue established by a dozen volunteers after devastating fires 3 years ago the group now numbers close to 200 with a fleet of trucks and trailers at the ready weve got some that are experts and cows and their experts and horses some that are experts and she because shes a really difficult. She estimates the Group Rescues a 1000 to 2000 animals per wildfire event during the lightning complex fires in Sonoma County the group rescued a herd of 14 horses, 3 were burned one so badly it had to be put down but the others were brought to the u c davis veterinary hospital, including gidget who had burns to the face and body. Thats the number marks still on her back to me that she was definitely fleeing and the fan. The flames were coming hard. This is get it now recovering with other evacuated livestock incur hours at the jordan winery in healdsburg owner lost her home you. Oh my goodness. There they are everything he getting these animals to safety sometimes leads to confrontation. The volunteers insist fire safety is first and they dont want to get in the way of firefighters. Thats a real thing you dont want to get into somewhere get the animals loaded in your trailer and try to go out and then youre blocking. But some local agencies arent so welcoming and the group says it was forced to abandon rescue efforts in butte county they have prevent us from helping. And we were up there working that fire for the first 4 days and then they effectively start locking Animal Rescue groups out. Shelina says there should be a process where volunteers can be trained and vetted to go in with their equipment and save animals freeing firefighters and others to do their jobs weve come to realize that this is a real thing its going to continue happening. People dont want to get out of their homes unless theyve got their animals out rescue organizations are now starting to turn their attention to the california state legislature. To make it easier to get access to bring these animals to safety. In healdsburg ken wayne kron 4 news. Thanks so much well go to National News now and President Trump marked Constitution Day by making a push to revise americas history books, washington correspondent kelli meyer reports now. In a constitusion day address President Trump took aim at what he considers distorted history, the left is attempting to destroy that beautiful vision and divide americans by race. The president is launching a new commission promoting what he calls a patriotic education. It comes as some schools use the New York Times 1619 project to re examine americas legacy of slavery teacher children. That we were founded on the principle of oppressions. Freedom. That has to be stopped. Peter wood president of the National Association of scholars calls the 1619 project propaganda. Wood believes teachers should provide a comprehensive history that gives students hope. Thats suffering and injustice for sure or real part of our past but theyre not the house President Trump has threatened to take away funding from california schools already using the 16 19 project in their curriculum. Its disgusting Randi Weingarten president of the American Federation of teachers encourages teachers to continue including 1619 in their classrooms weingarten believes history teachers shouldnt ignore or minimize past problems this strength of the nation. Is to be able to actually look at your most terrible time reflect any change grow the president says he plans to sign an executive order establishing his 1776 Commission Soon reporting in washington, im kelly meyer. The battle over revising the history books has voters on both the right and the left worked up Catherine Heenan the host of inside bay area politics is here now with reaction good afternoon. Catherine hi justine get the president s moves to promote what hes calling patriotic education, triggering a lot of reaction and again it is apparently his answer to the 1619 project an effort to reexamine American History 2 or more. Race critical lands the president claims that will dissolve the civic bonds of america. I asked our political analysts for their thoughts on trumps 1776 commission. I believe the president is right to seek Public Education that doesnt tear down america like the 1619 project in this divided era where half the country has one view and half has another. There are many people in this country who believe the very liberal bent. A Public Education is not good for america. And thats why projects like the president is proposing make sense to so many americans. This commission is just another dog whistle to his base patriotism as a code word for confederate history, and we know this because of his announcement trump insulted the 1619 project. Which provides education materials for schools and to this day marginalize or misrepresent the role of slavery in our history. Ironically the commission retreat to its mission. Students were learning the Critical Role that civil disobedience standing up to these with authority free speech in rallies played in our revolution. And how our constitution protects these rights today for groups like black lives matter and thats not a leftwing agenda. Its an american agenda. It is not clear yet how the president s commission will function he says hes also promoting the creation of an outdoor park called the National Garden of american heroes, the president says it would feature statues of great americans justine after. Lets talk now about our weather a lot of time. The toll plaza. Here it is beautiful blue skies at this hour that is a sight for sore eyes and cooler weather has now arrived. Fall, the official start of fall is just a few days away, i cant believe it lets check in now with our meteorologist Mabrisa Rodriguez for a look at the fall weather thats here but a warm ups also on the way yes so were going to get a little bit of a temperature swing starting tomorrow lasting through the weekend. Very low temperatures tomorrow in fact its going to look and feel a lot more like fall so were going to get a sneak peek even though fall doesnt officially begin until next tuesday downtown San Francisco cooling down into the mid 60s about 5 to 10 degrees of cooling for most bay area cities for the end of your workweek forecast happen they also in the mid 60s, but upper 60s for those of you in millbrae and burlingame winds out of the west northwest were going to get that onshore flow cooling us down 20 Miles Per Hour or less san mateo in the low 70s with mid 70s for those of you in Mountain View ca san jose 75 degrees milpitas also in the mid 70s with widespread 70s for most of our inland valleys livermore cooling down to 78 degrees after being in the 80s today as is conquered and throughout the east bay shoreline upper 60s and low to mid 70s there with richmond at 73 degrees as his napa and for those of you in santa rosa 76 degrees for your friday afternoon highs but then we are going to be above average with temperatures feeling a lot more like summer on sunday and we could see the return of smoke and ash justine with these northerly winds bring us high fire danger and even smoke returning from the north and august complex fire so keep that in mind. Could see another spare the air alert or air quality advisories from now all the way through early next week back to you thanks for being so well be watching that. And coming up. Here at 3 disneyland wants to reopen for visitors. Why the park is growing more frustrated with the state will explain. Also coming up next learn why offici officials have often warned all of us to avoid answering calls from an unknown numbers, but now the cdc says you may want to Pay Attention thats well Health Department could be calling you to let you know that youve been exposed to covid19 cdc Officials Say Contract Tracing calls may show up as an unknown number so check your voicemail just in case. Theyre still warning the public to watch out for scams and that local Health Departments will never ask you for money, your Social Security number or any banking information. Still ahead, i think its a mandatory 14 while hawaii will no longer require visitors to quarantine starting in october the states governor just made this announcement starting october 15th. Travelers arriving from out of state may bypass a 14 day quarantine requirement if they test negative for covid19. But travelers must test within 72 hours before their flight arrives. I morales has the story. The governor has appointed Lieutenant Governor josh green general Kenneth Farmer and Health Department director doctor libby char to take the lead in the pre Testing Program for arriving passengers. Some questions remain on whether theyll be enough tests available and if travelers will be able to get the results within 72 hours before departure. We have agreements in place with cvs and Kaiser Permanente who offer the tests and we will announce new testing prop partners in the coming weeks. Those who dont get tested or not able to get negative results within 72 hours will still be required to quarantine general horror expressed more optimism that the reopening plan will happen this time. He says the state has been able to increase testing and Contact Tracing capabilities which are necessary to reopen tourism. He adds that the Health Care System is also more prepared. Were able to bring in a total of 30 intensive care and Public Health nurses to support queens in court in hospitals. For now the only test considered valid or the deep nasal swab test the cost is 120 to 140 and travelers will have to pay for them on their own. Although greene said the kaiser might be willing to pay for those who are members. Mean also said other tests might be considered if they prove reliable. So its cheaper quicker just become available. And we have acceptable tap test that are specific and sensitive. Well work with deal aged dot Airports Health care people everywhere. So use those tests also the governor says hes also looking at setting up a free Testing Program for inner island travelers. But its not clear when that will happen. As we there is a task force with representation from each county to talk about what that program might look how would be implemented. And when would we be able to started. That was no low morale us reporting for us and tourism traffic to hawaii has plunged more than 90 during the pandemic closing hundreds of hotels and putting a lot of people out of work. Now disney land is pushing california officials for guidelines that would allow it to reopen disneyland theme parks in the state have been closed for 6 months all because of covid and yesterday the owners asked governor newsome to lay out guidelines that would allow the resorts and theme parks to reopen safely. Disney says they have proven they can operate responsibly with the success of their other properties that have been open around the world and the Downtown Disney area in anaheim. The closure of the theme parks have had a devastating impact on the local economy which faces a 100 Million Dollar budget deficit.
