Valley itself and pushing on over into the bay area. More and more neighbors to the east have also seen that smoke pushing their direction as it diffuses across the west coast in general. Now we are looking at a system that is pushing in from the west. Thats going to result in an increase in on shore flow today, introducing at least some newer heir to the bay area that isnt laden with wildfire smoke. So we are going to be seeing improvements in that way, but its not enough to stir out our existing hazy air. So in addition to the fog and the haze that we currently have we do have a little bit of improvements but not enough to make it a clean sweep across the area today nor really tomorrow much of the rest of the week too so were in this haze and the smoke for a while as we settled in it for a few days now already you can see that we do have some light winds pushing in from the pacific this morning, definitely breezy us up towards the vacaville and fairfield just enough to be keeping a lot of that smoke pushed out into our interior valleys at least the worst of that smoke this morning, 50s and 60s for your current temperatures with low 60s and hayward san jose and Oakland Berkeley in conquered at 57 degrees some of our coolest temperatures up in the north bay to start monday. Later on today a little bit warmer than we have been at a little bit brighter of skies by no means are we free of the haze, but just a bit more sunshine working its way through and conquered in livermore in the 80s while hayward freeman oakland. All in the low 70s. Back to you robin. All right sounds good. Thank you john. Well, lets check in on the traffic around the bay area this morning starting off with the bay bridge 80 wesson to San Francisco. Still looking good so far we dont have any trouble spots here leaving the maze heading into downtown San Francisco so were off to a really good start with no problems no complaints from oakland all the way over to the skyway all right, lets check in on 92, its our busiest bridge as usual. We have a little bit of a crowd now rolling out of hayward over to the peninsula no big trouble spot. So that means its a great time just dont out there early do it now before something pops up all right over to the richmond sandra fell bridge traffic, nice and light and quiet here on 5. 80 westbound into the north bay. So thats a good commute as well and then remember i still have a problem in fremont thats wrapping up on 84. At night which is niles canyon between polymers road and 6. 80 its still havent shut down because of that major accident from last night. Pole was knocked over so they have pg working on some repairs will take a closer look at that coming up a little bit later. Well new this morning, one person is dead after a major crash on 6. 80 in san jose. This happened last night in the northbound lanes of 6. 80 near the jackson avenue exit. A motorcyclist spun out crash with an suv police say the motorcyclist was found under the suv the crash briefly shut down lanes overnight. Well in a developing story that were following for you this morning, 7 people had to be hospitalized. After being exposed to fentanyl near the Golden Gate Bridge. They were exposed to the opioid at the scene of a traffic accident. It happened just before noon on sunday an impaired driver had crashed with the barrier right there with the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza. Substance inside the vehicle. It took a step back and officer at that point was able to speak with the driver of the vehicle to now responsible after being. Given 2 doses of narcan. We asked what the substance stated it might be a couple different but one of which may possibly be fentanyl. Well everyone but the driver of that car that crash have been released from the hospital. Well to the north bay now 2 men have been arrested after a fight led to a double stabbing this happened at a safeway on American Canyon road last night when officers made it out to the scene they say they found 2 men fighting and both suffering from stab wounds. They were taken to a local hospital and are said to be in stable condition this morning. Well a man is in custody after a deadly stabbing in santa cruz officers found a 43 yearold man with several stab wounds at depot park early sunday morning medics took him to the hospital where he later died. Officers found the suspect a short time later so far theres no word on a motive. The name of the victim and the suspect have not been released. Well happening today barred is changing things up a bit its changing its train schedules and will run more trains commuter trains that run every 15 minutes will be added to them. Lines during the week and then on the weekends there will be more trains that run every 30 minutes apart says of the schedule changes actually reflect a rise in ridership levels trains will still run until 09 00pm every night. Well here in the bay area, the lnu complex fire in the north bay is now 96 contain a fire has burned more than 363,000 acres and we have the scu complex fire in the east and south bay, its 98 contained this morning with 397,000 acres burned full containment of this complex fire is expected by thursday thats the goal. Crews now have the czu complex fire and send the tail and santa cruz counties at 89 containment with 86,000 acres burned there and then the woodford fire thats a Point Reyes National seashore in marine county its now 95 contained that fire has burned more than 4900 acres. A lot of hazy skies from wildfire smoke is impacting us negatively. Its actually helping firefighters fight the fires now Officials Say that smoke from the fires around the state block the suns see here reducing temperatures and of course raising humidity. But the changes in the weather actually help the firefighters in battling the fire. But despite the progress, theyre still concerned that the death toll may rise as crews reached of a stated areas. Well at least 10 wildfires have scorched more than a million acres in oregon thousands more will likely burn before these fires are actually fully contained. One of the largest fires and the riverside is a riverside fire in Clackamas County which has burned 100 and 33,000 acres, its a story, 33 homes and its 0 contained this morning. Some evacuees say they almost turned to drastic measures before they escaped. We had a. I got up there and we were all preparing to start figuring out who was going to the other one too take care of everybody so that they didnt burn. What you just heard from says that she was actually camping in the woods with her children when the flames just surrounded them. So they left everything that they own they are now staying at a shelter for the time being. Thousands of people have been displaced by the fires and one small oregon town. The community. Theres actually turning to the power of faith their pastor who is from the town of paradise knows what it means to lose everything nancy loo i heard he california. Yes that paradise the Northern California town destroyed by a wildfire 2 years ago. Pastor lee gregory moved to Southern Oregon long before the camp fire but after it hit he organized a Care Campaign to help his hometown since then during that fire for the next 6 months paradise fire. We knew people would flood to Southern Oregon area out of 50,000 people that were displaced and running for their lives. We knew eventually somewhat come this way. More than a 150 family settled in oregons rogue valley, including the pastors inlaws who lost everything in paradise as wildfire near their new home just outside phoenix, they left even before an evacuation go order we left in the morning people during new to get us before they saw us think if i had seen fire it would have mortar matter where we just knew the drill if this suitcase get the clothes pick up the important papers and out the in 20 minutes, we were ready to leave thankfully their home was spared this time. But in the medford neighborhood congregation alone, 8 families have lost their homes, including betty jack who fled with her bible before house burned down and the church guitar player. Scotty all read i have to start over so thats ok and everyones prayers is giving me strength like ive got all my clothes is one of my new clothes in. Ive got enough clothes and food and right needs these are new clothes haha yeah, we lost that. But i did get military discharge and my dd 2 even though Everything Else is gone past early also works as a School Bus Driver in phoenix and talent. His boss has since been used for shuttling evacuees to the Jackson County expo grounds along the way he is preaching a simple message to care for one another the ones are doing good deeds are smiling. The ones who are doing the good deeds in the midst of their sorrows can make it to the next day the one who is spinning their life caring for the other person is also hurting next thing they look around they say i made it through this day, im not hurting so much just as it is in paradise the towns of phoenix and talent will never be the after surviving both wildfires amundson says positivity is key. Its me a lot of encouragement to say to people dont quit. Dont keep going and learn to smile through all of it. All of that was a beautiful message that was nancy loo reporting for us this morning, the death toll from the wildfires currently stand at 10. That number is expected to rise since dozens of people are still missing. All right coming up next on the kron 4 news football is officially back as the fortyniners take on the cardinals and the raiders faced off against the panthers will have all those highlights coming up for you in just a bit stay with us. A little peek outside were checking in on a hazy foggy bay bridge there. It is you can see the lights in the background, another day of poor air quality around the bay area john trimble has all the details coming up. Welcome back everyone the time is 4. 43 good morning and thanks for staying with us we have meteorologist john trouble standing by with a look at what we can expect this week im almost afraid to boy you dont want to know that some points you know what we at least are looking at some improvements in the forecast the really really gradual though so weve still got a hazy forecast ahead of us, i know weve got to get that out of the way though. Its definitely not going to be the clearest of as we work our way through the next few days but gradual improvements nonetheless looking outside at sfo definite hayes still hovering across the bay. We are seeing are cloudy layer sitting right above the bay itself so most your bridges are actually fine as far as visibility goes, but there is some fog some patchy fog mixed with that pays to watch out for as for air quality still very very unhealthy across the region. It is not the day to be stepping outside i hope you practiced some nice indoor working out activities this weekend. Youre going to keep that going today and really for much of the rest of the week ahead of us. Now skies are dry to start the new day we are looking at a bit of a switch up in our weather pattern that is at least offering us improvements, theres a low pressure area to our west that is gradually going to work its way just to our north. This is going to cut off the introduced the introduction of new smoke to the region from the Pacific Northwest as well as even those Northern California wildfires a lot of that smoke is now being sent to the rockies and further to the east. Were still looking at some lingering smoke though from fires on the western sierra. This smoke is settled into the Central Valley and is gradually made its way our direction. We are seeing an increase in onshore flow. This morning. Thats trying to keep that smoke out. But its filtering in nonetheless and thus we are still seeing a continued impact of haze. Theres your light on shore flow this morning that has resulted in some foggy spots not that widespread, but there are a few spots to watch out for in the north bay, 50s and 60s for coastal areas, daytime highs later today. Well our bayside areas back into the 60s and 70s. Temperatures will remain pretty comfortable considering what time of year it is with daytime highs nowhere in the 90s across this 4 zone forecast based at least not be talking about some heat as weve seen plenty of that had really enough of that the season. Oakland at 71 conquered walnut creek in danville 83 while 70s back in benicia palais how in napa 70s as well from santa rosa through sandra fell down to mill valley. Now heres a look at the next 7 days. We do have some improvements that will continue to offer gradual clearing of the air today and tomorrow we still do have easiest of skies towards the end of the week we actually have a weak low pressure system thats going to be making its way through this is going help to lift some of the bad air out and may even result in a light shower to near the coast and the north bay come friday. Robin. All right, thank you for the update john we want to check in on been monitoring a the trouble spot in fremont and major cross actually happened last night at 1113 and was a spin out on 84, which is niles canyon, its still closed between mission and 6. 80 there on the civil side have it shut down in both directions. The bigger issue now is the power pole that was damaged in the crash and they have pg e on scene making the necessary repairs, but we dont have an estimated time of clearing. If you normally take 84 as a short cut youre going to be diverted away from the area, so you may want to stick with 6 ad mission 8 8580 all depends on what your final destination is and whats best for you, but they are diverting traffic along that stretch until further no other big trouble spots the bridge. Us look good well take a look at them coming up a little bit later. Well a disappointing start for the defending nfc champs, a fortyniners kick off the season with a loss to the Arizona Cardinals sad face. The game was played under smoky skies at levi stadium in santa clara, the niners they started out strong. Quarterback jimmy g throws to running back Raheem Mostert and he runs the ball 76 yards into the end zone for a touchdown in the 1st quarter. Jimmy g finished the game with 259 yards and 2 touchdowns but then in the end the defense allowed the cardinals to score 14 points in the 4th quarter. The niners lose the first game of the season, 24 to 20. Last time we played these guys that came down to the wire just like this one did. We have a chance or to win at the end. You know they had they made a good there in the end zone on born on the the double movie ran and then on the fort down the made a good play stop and turn on our old and. We came up a little bit short, you know last 2 times we very similar mo. We came up on top those 2. Its ok were going to stay positive. The niners will travel across the country to take on the new york jets. Next sunday, go niners. Well meantime of the silver and black officially started their new air as the Las Vegas Raiders with the win. The team played on the road against the Carolina Panthers and raiders quarterback derek carr threw for 239 yards and one touchdown and the star of this game was raiders running back josh jacobs he rushed for 3 touchdowns in the game with a total of 139 yards from the line of scrimmage the raiders beat up answers 30 for 30. After the game raiders head coach jon gruden praise jacobs on a job well done. Seen a lot of running backs for a long time. The dow a little bit like Walter Payton used to play it was hard to tell they get beat up early. He is not coming back, he insisted he get the ball as a runner and receiver. The a e special he deserves up. Some National Attention hope you guys give it to. The raiders will play their first game at their Las Vegas Stadium a week from today hosting the new orleans saints. Well now lets talk about some baseball shall we bay area, baseball, the oakland as split a fourgame series with the rangers in texas. A picture from team on costs struck out 7 batters yesterday but he also gave up a threerun homer and the 6th inning the rangers would take it from there beating the as 3, 6, by the final inning the as go on the road to seattle this afternoon to take on the mariners and a double header goal 80s all right meantime, the giants, the giants played a double header against the padres in san diego. The double header was actually scheduled after giants outfielder Alex Dickerson tested positive for coronavirus that was just on friday canceling a game. Then on saturday, the team found out that he was actually a false positive. Yeah and returned to the field yesterday for back to back games. Unfortunately, the giants lost both games, the giants got shut out by the padres in game 1, 0, 6, and then they lost game 2 as well, unfortunately, 1, 3, the giants will take the day off today and get a little rest and then head back out to seattle to take on the mariners that is tomorrow night get a child do better. We are cheering for you. All right a little peek outside at the airport covered in clouds thats our new normal this morning. Well have your full forecast coming up in just a bit. Welcome back approaching 5 oclock now on this monday morning and some updates for you this far as what to expect for this upcoming weekend, especially this morning still hazy as im sure you would have assumed after what we saw this weekend continued smoking very poor air quality were back to that this morning, our walnut creek camera is showing a while traffic is picking up but hayes is still there thats been the steady as we work our way through this forecast, lets get a look at where air quality is that still in that very worst category for really almost all the entirety of the bay area were going to stay very pour on through the rest of the week too as we do see just modest improvements from day to day today, youre likely to notice a couple of clearer looking spots but dont be fooled that forecast to stay inside as much as possible light winds from the coast are pushing in this morning this is introducing at least some fresher air to the bay mixing in with our existing smoke and haze so at least we have some new air being introduced in there not quite as stagnant as we were over this past weekend 50s 60s for current temperatures get that light jacket on as you step outside, but only for a few minutes before you hopefully get right back inside to some cleaner air obviously indoors. Daytime highs later today will rise into the 80s for inland areas, this is just a little warmer than we were this weekend with 60s near the coast and 70s for most of our bayside areas thats your updated forecast. Robin also did over your way. All right thank you john, lets check in on the traffic now were taking a peek at the trip into San Francisco looking good at the bay bridge toll plaza, no delays no trouble spots, its been nice and quiet throughout the morning commute an easy trip coming in. All right, lets head over to the golden gate were checking in on one on one at least not have any fog across the span this morning but so far nice and smooth. For both directions into and out of San Francisco. Coming up in the next hour, a huge step for businesses in San Francisco, the city has lifted covid19 restrictions allowing businesses to reopen indoors today for the first time in months. Were also monitoring the air quality across the bay area impacted from the wildfires and smoke check this out this map shows the current levels of what its like when its feeling like outside your door, well have more details in just a bit. And President Trump will be visiting california for a briefing on the states wildfire devastation today details on his visit just ahead. Were for those who love to discover. And who know when you spend less, you can discover even more. And never, ever stop discovering. Spend less, discover more. At t. J. Maxx, marshalls, and homegoods. Youre watching kron 4 morning news at 5. Good monday morning to you lets hope for a better day than we last week, im darya folsom and im James Fletcher yet today monday september 14th. Well lets talk to john and find air quality at was top of mind for everybody last week john what about well okay. Purple will so great john you were saying our best shot for things to start to turn start to turn around today is happening yeah, you know what the starts is occurring but the start is definitely not the so we are working our way in the right direction at least but as you can see obviously air quality still very pour really virtually across the entirety of the bay area haze is still very noticeable out there to mixed in with some fog that is pushed in overnight a couple of foggy patches but for the most part bridges are looking pretty good as youre making your way into work, were still in that red category as you did see there on your air quality map just a minute ago so air quality is less than ideal for spending more than just a minute or 2 outside do limit outdoor exposure as much as possible by this point. I dont need to tell you that youve already experienced that feel for yourself and youre thinking. Yeah i do want to stay inside as much as i possibly can and im right there with you. We are seeing a light on shore wind this morning introducing just a touch of newer and better air into the bay area thats going to mix in with
