Seeing that noticeable haze as weve seen for days now still continuing we are almost all under the worst of air quality yet again just as we left on friday. Were seeing very similar conditions to this so no big improvements in that regard now we are seeing continued smoke from wildfires burning across the western sierra pushing into the Central Valley and eventually having settled the right here in the bay over Weekend Hours you see how bay area is impacted by both some fog and smoke imbedded in a fog from the pacific as well as that smoke that the subtle the right down into the Central Valley so he had a 1, 2 punch of smoke to our east and west. Least wildfire smoke from the north has mostly pushed further to the north now impacting areas as far east as ohio, so its definitely not just a california issue anymore. Although obviously we still have a greater impact as fires are right here in our own backyard. Livermore and santa rosa visibility below a mile this morning as we do look at some fog pushing back in overnight now mixing in with that existing smoke and haze that as we know has not wanted to leave us the past few days. Winds have picked up just a bit from the south and west now this is good news because we do have a low pressure system that is working its way right around our region that is creating a little bit more lift and a shift in wind direction that should help us out. At least a little bit as far as were wildfire smoke is going to be heading today helping to mix things out just a little bit resulting in some modest improvements, 50s and 60s for your current temperatures across the bay area this morning. And as we work our way into the afternoon daytime highs will be just a little bit warmer than yesterdays back up into the 80s for conquered livermore and morgan hill 70s for most of our bayside areas, ive got plenty more about our wildfire smoke still to come in the rest of your forecast profit. Other activities like outdoor tour buses, drivein movies, many golf batting cages and go carts are also allowed to reopen on monday with restrictions. The city of San Francisco of knowledge ing that these reopenings could attract more tourists to the area and warned that orders could be reversed if more covid19 cases come up in San Francisco gayle ong kron 4 news. San francisco is one of 3 bay area counties that were given the green light to move further along into the reopening process now we have a map and this map actually shows the current reopening tears of each bay area county so check it out the purple indicates case rates and positive test rates are still too high to reopen. The red thats 4 counties with of substantial covid19 problem followed by orange and then green now in order to move into a higher tier county must report no more than 7 cases per 100,000 people for 2 weeks. Were tracking local coronavirus cases and so far will both local and around the state the state has recorded more than 762,000 cases with more than 14,000 deaths and then across the bay area there are more than 90,000 reported cases and more than 1200 deaths. Happening tomorrow in the east bay berkeley leaders are set to vote this week on whether or not to Issue Citations to people who refuse to wear a mask now if passed any person violating health order could be fined up to 100 per day for the first violation with penalties increasing for repeat violators. Well turning to our wildfire coverage now nearly 17,000 firefighters across california are working to contain 29 major wildfires that are burning right now in our state. Now so far more than 3 million acres have burned during our fire season. At least 35 people are dead from california to Washington State just dozens of wildfires have destroyed neighborhoods just leaving nothing but charred rubble and burned out cars, forcing 10s of thousands of people to evacuate. Well the creek fire has tripled in 5 in less than a week burning more than 200,000 acres, its just 10 contained this morning, theyre still working hard to get under control. Take a look at this map that we have for you this map actually shows the growth of the fire you see the dark green the dark green is the initial fire. The light green is the first 2 days in the yellow and the light orange. Those are the 3rd and 4th days and then the orange represents the last week last thursday and friday more than 14,000 structures are now threatened by the flames of that low visibility means theres been little opportunity for actually you know bringing in water and retardant drop so thats not helping where that the smoke has been. Lane in staying in the area and with aircraft it has not been able to go up. Thats a tough battle more than 4. 100 buildings have already been destroyed or damaged by the flames 800 firefighters will soon be arriving from all across the country to assist with the containment effort. Happening today President Trump will be visiting california for a briefing on the states wildfire devastation hell be touching down in sacramento. Coming up next on the kron 4 morning news, a major crash on the Golden Gate Bridge led to several officers being hospitalized after exposure to a dangerous drug well have details on that coming up in just a bit and families along the west coast have lost everything due to wildfires why one community is turning to a pastor from the town of paradise to restore their face. And the cdc has come up with the covid19 dosing schedule, how millions could get their shot by december thats coming up after the break stay with us. Welcome back everyone and thanks for staying with us the time is for 14 good morning to you lets say good morning to john travel and see whats in store with this weather forecast. Hey john good monday morning robin and we are going to be seeing some improvements in this forecast which is something nice to at least mention but it is going to be a slow go and by no means are we going to be free of the smoker hayes throughout the course of this forecast necessarily but improvements is a good direction to be heading looking outside at Half Moon Bay skies are definitely a little cloudy overhead although visibility is just fine there at the coast. Obviously hayes has remained with us throughout the course of last week into the weekend and were starting off this monday morning with the continued impact from wildfire smoke. So much of it just sitting across the region. You can see skies across the bay area are nice and dry if we zoom out across the region there are some things to talk about the big picture set up that are offering us at least some relief this low pressure area thats sitting to our west is steering just to our north. What this is doing is cutting off additional smoke from the Pacific Northwest as well as or Northern California wildfires from drifting down our direction. We certainly studio has still do have an impact from her local fires, though if you look closely here you can actually see that lie ahead, hes that showing up on satellite radar. From the western sierra thats drifting slowly on over to the bay area so we still do have some lingering smoke from our own region that is just sitting here and does not want to leave us of course being trapped by the sierra nevada, just pushing through the Central Valley and then pushing gradually our direction. This change in wind direction will try to prevent any additional smoke for making its way out into the bay. But theres certainly no guarantee of that we have a light on shore flow this morning that will relax into the afternoon, some of that smokes going to make its way back in so we do have an addition of some fresher air. Top of what we already have which is the not so fresh air. Were just not sweeping that the gross stuff, the hazy stuff out of the region just yet. 50s and 60s for your highs at the coast. Well temperatures right along the bay today will mostly be 60s to 70s burlingame at 75 redwood city at 76 today, south bay temperatures looking at highs in the upper 70s to low 80s which is actually a little bit warmer than we have in the past few days. You also have some 80s pretty widespread for inland valleys walnut creek danville unconquered 83. Well oakland at 71 today 70s for hope aneesh and napa while 80s in sonoma vacaville down through antioch santa rosa through center fell in mill valley. All in the 70s. Heres a look ahead at your next 7 days so today and tomorrow definitely still seeing hazy or skies sunlight breaking its way threats sometimes, but more so than not that haze is going to be the most noticeable thing on the horizon. Wednesday and thursday some modest improvements continue daytime highs will be especially warm on these days and heres Something Different to be talking about on friday we could see some light sprinkles up and down the coastline in the north bay of course that will do a lot to help us as far as air quality and smoke goes as we do see just a weak system pushing through on friday which is really the biggest change that we can focus on and hold on to that could offer some relief from this poor air. Robert. All right, thank you lets check in on traffic on monitoring a problem thats been lingering for a while now in fremont it actually happened last night at shortly after 11 oclock a driver spun out ran into a power pole on 84, which is niles canyon. Police are still on scene investigating plus they have pg need there to deal with those a downed power pole so for niles king is closed this morning in both directions between mission and 6 ad a lot of folks use it as a short cut. But youre not going to be able to do that right now so youre going to have to stick with maybe the the minutes depends on where youre coming from or where youre going but it will not be open anytime soon we still dont have an estimated time of clearing. Theyve issued a Traffic Alert once again theyve been dealing with this all night. And now until the Early Morning hours so fremont 84 niles canyon. Close right now between mission and 6. 80 there because of a major accident involving a downed power pole well have more on that coming up a little bit later for you meanwhile, thats really the only big trouble spot that im tracking. We do have a pretty good looking trip into San Francisco, heres a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza where traffic remains nice and quiet that how we like it. 8 minutes for the drive over to fremont street in the 92 already picking up just a little bit we can see more and more brake lights every time we check in, but no big problems here leaving hayward heading over to the peninsula will check out more bridges coming up a little bit later. The cdc has come up with a covid19 vaccine dosing schedule that could have millions of people getting their shot by december. Its a complicated equation accounts on shipping stuart availability and risk level and then you combine all of that with trial results for different vaccine candidates. Dina bair explains how it might look. As students head back to school. And employers increasingly welcome returning workers. It becomes even more critical for herd immunity. The key to that lies in a vile with an injection that offers immunity to sars covid 2 the virus that causes covid19. There are several candidates scientist at various pharmaceutical companies and universities are giving to study participants as phase 3 trial results begin to trickle in. Experts say every state should prepare to invite residents to get their vaccine as early as october. The process tested and perfected back in the 20 09 h one n one flu pandemic so i think that infrastructure is there. So some polls we have a reasonable amount the beginning. It could be us mulls process. The federal government will initially by all available viable vaccines. Medical offices, hospitals and pharmacies must enroll in a Vaccination Program for the right to administer the initial shots. Confirming they have staff and proper facilities. The Cdc Advisory Committee on immunization practices says as those vaccine doses are shipped across the country. They should go immediately to big cities with large populations. Frontline medical workers and First Responders older people and those with comorbidities like asthma diabetes Heart Disease high Blood Pressure and obesity. Well get priority since theyre likely to get sick or with a covid19 diagnosis there will have to entire. Process hes developed to figure out how were going to patients identified whats challenging is we have a lot of people that are high risk they may not be tied into health care. Well that was dina bair reporting for us this morning, the distribution depends on current trials continuing without delay and the manufacturing process running smoothly. Meantime doctors advise in the absence of a covid19 vaccine for everyone, its even more critical to get a flu shot this year. So dont forget. Executives at a Pharmaceutical Company pfizer says that americans could get a covid19 vaccine before the end of the year ceo albert berlet says that it will depend on the results of pfizers current vaccine trial which is in the late stages of testing for the fda pfizer has been working with german drugmaker biontech to produce a vaccine. Murder and astrazeneca are also working on vaccines at straws and briefly pause its trial for safety reasons be but announced that it will indeed resume testing.
