Poor air quality continues to plague the bay area tonight here is a look at our Traffic Cameras from this afternoon you can see all across the bay area. The skies were gray, but just how dangerous is there outside in your neighborhood, one resource that you can use to find out is purple air dot com which we have a link on our website kron 4 dot com to make it easier for you, and you can see right now that the bay area is covered in all these colorcoded circles with a number on top the color and the number both correspond to the epa is index for air quality the number that is around 100 means that the air may be unhealthy for those who have extra Sensitive Health conditions is circle colored and orange means its bad for preexisting conditions but once you hit one 50 that circle turns bright red and thats whats covering most of the bay area tonight and that means the air quality is bad for everyone regardless of how healthy you are and then at 200. The caller turns purple and at that point the air quality is so unhealthy for everyone in that region that there are advised to stay indoors as much as possible and there are pockets of the bay area that have that purple circle over them specifically over the east bay going all the way down from concord even further south thats where the air is just as bad as it could be right now, experts say prolonged exposure to this toxic air can have lasting and negative impacts honor health and also increase our chances of catching the coronavirus. Because while star smoke increases the risk for lower respiratory Tract Infections and given that were in the middle of a pandemic i worry that the exposure to this bear is increasing the risk of covid19. In some of the circles that we were just looking at on the map are in the 300s thats closer to the east bay, those areas so doctors are saying if you go out if you have to. Theyre advising to wear an n 95 or surgical mask if you can only wear klaas math mask. If you wash it every time you go outside because the smoke particles can actually get trapped. In that cloth material even places in antioch. Livermore also in this really unhealthy air condition. Air conditions tonight, yeah, and one of the places were just looking at on that map is in the south bay. I think there was a number that said to 3. 97 Something Like that so. Obviously things are just terrible. If you if you go outside the best advice, everyone just has right now is if you can avoid being outside for extended periods of time just stay inside if you can to avoid breathing in all of that bad air who want to bring back in our meteorologist Mabrisa Rodriguez to talk more about this poor air quality that so many folks are now suffering with right now and a lot of folks waiting to see what will happen with the fortyniners game tomorrow morning i noticed sores all over santa clara was over 200 now theyll have to make a decision on that game tomorrow for sure yeah and were going to notice the porous during the morning improving by the afternoon and early evening hours thanks to the return of that strong sea breeze. Pushing all of that smoke and ash but i know right now the air quality is so bad, its hard to distinguish the marine layer from the actual smoke and haze because its all just collecting together. Under that cloud covered so dense low clouds and fog we do have a dense fog advisory in effect from now through 9 oclock and thats what were going to notice cooler temperatures tomorrow specifically along the San Francisco peninsula downtown San Francisco, just warming up into the mid 60s. So a few degrees below average there in half moon bay, 64 degrees with upper 60s for those of you in Burlingame San Mateo 69 degrees palo alto in the low 70s with widespread 70s for those of you in the south bay, san jose 70 degrees sunnyvale 72 degrees and livermore 86 degrees so near average highs there but along the immediate coastline of the east bay shoreline widespread 70s there with oakland at 71 degrees conquered in the mid 80s and napa 79 degrees with sonoma in the mid 70s and santa rosa. 80 degrees. So thanks to the stronger seabreeze expect some improvement still going to be unhealthy air particles though even through monday thats why we have that spear the air alert and air quality advisory in effect through monday back to you. And back out to the breaking news out of los angeles now after 2 sheriffs deputies were shot tonight this now coming to us from the la county sheriffs twitter theyre saying one male deputy and one female deputy were ambushed, as they sat in their patrol vehicle this happened in compton. Both of these deputies have sustained multiple gunshot wounds and they are in critical condition. Both undergoing surgery and the suspect is still at large. Were still following this breaking news story and again as updates come in. Storm preps are taking place all along the gulf coast tonight as Tropical Storm sally is moving in one area now in the cone of uncertainty is Dauphin Island in alabama. Gabby easter would shows us how folks there are getting ready. Flooding is the main concern, especially on the west end of the island we spoke with the mayor and some residents today who say that they are ready when that inevitably comes. Storm preparation is nothing new for Dauphin Island but its always important weve been like one of our questions this stuff off the dock and stuff like that so. Bridges county so we all react the same guy every storm you know just get ready for the wind and in case theres a rise in water and stuff like that. Or hit just a few weeks ago the island flooded and residents expect the same this time around salt water flooding thats probably the primary thing that were going to be concerned with right now and thats going to be areas like the west and other parts of the island that are susceptible. Dauphin Island Police are also on standby for road closures the citys already been in contact with the contractors they use for cleanups the mayor saying hes overall encouraging preparedness across the island. Mainly try to encourage people to move vehicles up to Higher Ground in the interior parts of the island thats one of the main things with concern myself with so just a lot of different moving parts that we have to try to deal with but sally expected to come along with possible storm surges up to 4 feet. The mayor says he really wants visitors to be aware. Most arent sticking around to see it though. Starting leave out earlier than normal normal family would leave out more about lunch. About leaving up now day. Check it out here. But those who will be on the island when sallys affects come. They need to be ready. Its going to be a fun clean up those here in Dauphin Island and along the gulf coast are also asked to get those hurricane kits ready on dolphin island, im gabby easter would back to you. Lets take a live look outside right now at the radar which is showing us where Tropical Storm sally is it could become a hurricane by tuesday. And there is a lot of green on the screen right now you can see exactly she has got he was saying in packages that this is kind of the same track that. The last storm just took right up that area of the gulf coast right there near louisiana and. Alabama the those folks definitely used to. Those storms, especially this kind this time of year and theres actually another storm thats actually out in the in the in the atlantic as well that were likely be paying attention to as well. Yeah, thats right paula in bermuda but first lets take a look at Tropical Storm sally were noticing impressive hurricanes out there in the atlantic very active season where we actually run out of letters with all of these hurricanes making its way towards the atlantic and gulf of mexico we could actually be forced to switch to the greek alphabet believe it or not but first lets track sally out there right now Tropical Storm did bring heavy rain to the southern tip for those of you in florida and now it is going to gain strength as it makes its track through the warm gulf of mexico waters where it could become a category one hurricane as it makes landfall now expected to arrive on tuesday, but right now it is a Tropical Storm with sustained winds at 40 Miles Per Hour. And this is horrible news for louisiana because certain cities. Still trying to recover and pick up the pieces from what was laura kirk hurricane 4 storm just 3 weeks ago, so we are noticing very active pattern once again similar track as laura ly jonathan was mentioning in between louisiana and mississippi this is where this storm could actually make landfall in the coming days 10 to 18 inches of rain in addition to that Hurricane Force winds could bring a life threatening storm surge as well not what the northern gulf coast need this time still reeling and recovering from laura, but lets take a look at our bay area forecast we did notice a big warmup today, widespread 90s throughout the trial valleys even santa rosa warming up to 91 degrees about 5 degrees above average there downtown San Francisco warming up into the low 70s but as we take a live look outside from the east bay over berkeley tracking that sig blanket of marine there mixed in with that smoke and ash so very poor air particles out there still even for this evening and temperatures for the most part widespread 60s along the coast still in the 70s as you make your way inland for livermore 79 degrees napa 66 in santa rosa 69 degrees. So future cast for is going to show that blanket of low and high cloud cover and even patchy coastal drizzle to start out your sunday morning but better clearing by the afternoon along the coast expect more clouds than sun though, and overnight lows tonight, widespread mid 50s downtown, San Francisco cooling down to 66 degrees low 70s throughout the east bay shoreline low 80s for those of you in santa rosa flirting with a tease for san jose, but in the mid 80s for our tri valley so we will notice a few degrees of cooling little change on monday. But an improvement in air quality not arriving until tuesday of next week very unhealthy air particles jonathan and justine slight chance of drizzle though by thursday into friday cooling us down to below average back to you. And were getting our first look now the breaking news we are watching here on kron 4 news at 8 this is out of compton in Los Angeles County where 2 sheriffs deputies have been shot and what the Sheriffs Office is calling an ambush attack officials are saying one male deputy and one female deck deputy were ambushed as they were sitting in their patrol car. Both deputies have multiple gunshot wounds, theyre currently undergoing surgery right now the suspect has not been caught. This is our first look now at the crime scene where there is an intense investigation right now to try to figure out exactly what happened in fine. The person responsible. Were still getting new details on this breaking news story as youve seen throughout the hour and as soon as we get more information we will bring it to you. Time for sports.
