This month. It is a record. We can tell you that that breaks a record of 14 days, you have to go all the way back to 2018 during the camp fire for that. And that 24 days in a row were going to be 25 days tomorrow and likely could be extended past that because of this bad air. Often the distance is downtown San Francisco. But its barely visible like the ash that sits atop cars the smoky skies here are a grayish white making for another day of unhealthy air quality. Its actually worse today in terms of breezing that it was yesterday thats much worse today and i have to masks and not now thats how bad the says in fact their quality was worse on thursday because a layer of fog that kept the smoke aloft wednesday. Dissipated the air is mixing were down to ground weve weve weve lost that you know protection yesterday so were seeing that the readings of really jumped up in the bay area as the air mixes down bringing all of the smoke with it and while some people were still out and about. Many are keeping their activities to a minimum. Im trying to stay inside and in keeping all my clothes and checking on my grandparents and my family. And for some this unhealthy air coupled with the fires coupled with covid19 has all become too much. Mostly bothers me because it cannot let my kids out them theyre bothering me life is definitely different. And now we have yet another level and eventually well get to what we consider normal. Although im not sure thats going to be. Back live in San Francisco again today, the 24th day in a row, the spare the air alert 25 days in a row will be tomorrow the bay area air Quality Management district expected to make a decision tomorrow whether to extend that through the weekend they say with all the smoke aloft that is very likely live in San Francisco. Dan kerman kron 4 news. Thank you dan lets take another look outside right now get a different view and see whats happening with the air quality this is looking out over San Franciscos embarcadero you can not really see the bay bridge just faintly in the background there, you know lawrence at in dans report says she cant walk or kids outside because of the air quality in their driving her crazy. Is she going to get a break shes counting on you tonight, yeah, a lot of pressure thank you very much, yeah, you know i think youll start to see a little bit of a break this weekend but its going to be just. A little bit each day, the air quality should begin to improve boy it is just think it is hazy out there. The smoke everywhere fog along the coastline air quality horrible around the bay area in fact the worst right now in the San Francisco and oakland see the area shaded in purple here very unhealthy air quality as you extend right across the bay in oakland right now on healthy and read all the way down the peninsula along the coastline and a Half Moon Bay fremont and hayward ironically some places inland usually they have the worst air quality there actually a little bit better, but theyre called are still poor in the concord in the san jose now tomorrow afternoon looks like things will improve just a little bit but you can see were all in the orange category that means some very poor air quality expected all around the bay area today. Kind of a big change in the pattern yesterday we saw all that smoke above the air quality down below one so bad, but today, some of that smoke finally mixing to the surface so we actually have less smoke in the atmosphere, but its worse air quality around the bay area and thats where we sit right now we just have not had enough of a wind tomorrow, maybe a little more sea breeze in the afternoon but not by much theyre a quality only go to improve a little bit i think by tomorrow afternoon. Thank you laura as well to our wildfire coverage now cal fire now referring to the bear fire burning in butte county as the north complex west his own fire that name change was made this morning. The fire has killed 3 people injured several others and a dozen more are unaccounted for tonight. The north complex fires also burning in plumas and yuma counties. It began back on august 17th and has burned more than 250,000 acres, many homes near the berry creek area were destroyed. And we have the latest on the creek fire thats burning in Fresno County that fire is now close to 176,000 acres is still at 0 containment fire Officials Say its destroyed 361 structures so far. Closer to home. The lnu lightning complex fire in the north bay is currently 94 contained nearly 1500 structures have been destroyed there. Im on cloverdale road not far from the town of pescadero behind me you can see how the czu lightning complex fires. Burned this hillside behind me. In fact the fires burned right down to the road stopping at a Drainage Ditch i spoke to cal fire today. They say the fire is now 84 contained. They are optimistic because theyre looking at a cooling weather pattern in the days ahead. But they do want to stress that. Nonresidents should stay out of the fire zone. They say there are still hazards up here. If youve been driving near the burned area, you know that there are these huge trees that have fallen and theyre theyre just ready there on a hillside that soil could be compromised so there are hazards out there that were going to be talking about for months to come. In addition to the possibility of falling trees another lurking hazard or the ash pits that can form around burn trees fire gets down into the root system and burns all through the roots so then everything thats just left is this just a huge pile of ash that blends in with the rest of the ground because the rest of ground looks like cash to so youre walking along not paying attention it just looks the same, but you step into where that tree root system used to be and youre just going to your legs are going to fall and you can get burned and it does happen and those routes can be on fire for months. Another thing there is still Fire Fighting going on even though theyre mostly in the mop up stage at this point. But that means there are still fire trucks and pg e trucks traveling. Some very narrow country roads in some instances and they dont want to see a situation where looking lou gets into an accident or even just impedes the progress. The sake of another look outside checking out the north bay looking toward the golden gate bridge. You cant really see the towers you can see the cars as they make their way into the city but and they head out but not much beyond those first few patches of street there. Lawrence looks like fog. But we know theres also smoke a mixed in with that right, yes smokes mixed into the lower layers now and thats what were seeing around the bay area in fact this a different look. This coming from the east bay this from walnut creek and look at all that haze out there thats not fog that is all smoke that continues to settle in right down near the ground thats what the air quality has been so bad around the bay area today and tomorrow another day its going to be very poor around the bay area i only some slight improvement by tomorrow afternoon. A poor quality from the north bay all the way the coast the east bay, the south bay too so much smoke from the fires moved all the way out the middle of the civic and so even we get that onshore breeze thats karen. Some that smoke thats sitting off the coastline to bring back in our direction you can see it out there now some of smoke continues it off the coastline. Youve got some fog also developing along the coast. The one good sign see more of a westerly component so weve cut off were getting some of that smoke all the way from bear fire that was moving back in the bay area weve cut that officer not see more new smoke. But certainly the smoke thats already out there continues to slowly move out. And we dont have a real strong sea breeze, so yeah, even though were getting a little more of a westerly component we really need a stronger wind down near the surface to mix out some of that smoke of course were not getting in the look like when we get overnight tonight things are going to get calm that means a smoke is going to settle in over night all around the bay area tomorrow afternoon again maybe the sea breeze a little bit stronger were still talking 10 maybe 12 Miles Per Hour thats not quite enough to move that smoke out of town so expect a very smokey began around the bay area tomorrow with only slight improvement. I think a little more so as we get the weekend temperatures go to probably warm up as the skies start to clear out thats going more sunshine and that means temperatures probably going to pop back of the 80s in some of the valleys. And coming up. Dies from covid19 and alarming trend being seen across several states.
